Since it was nice out, we decided to sit outside. Our server greeted us right away and had such a fun personality. We started with drinks so I ordered a Spicy Margarita. Unfortunately, it wasn't very spicy at all so they brought me fresh, habanero peppers to add to my drink! It definitely made it spicy after that lol. We decided on Fresh Guacamole to start. It could've used a little more salt and there were big chunks of avocado but other than that, it was pretty good. I ordered the Sizzling Enchiladas and they were amazing as usual! My sister ordered the same thing and she thoroughly enjoyed them. I loved that they brought me out a sombrero and sung for me for my birthday! It really made my day!!! This José Tequilas is located on McComas Way and is basically near the intersection with General Booth Blvd. and Nimmo Pkwy. in Virginia Beach. You can enter the area traveling south along General Booth Blvd. or by coming in along Nimmo Pkwy. where you would enter for the Princess Anne Recreation Center or Library. My most recent visit here was on August 4, 2026. My mom and I came here on two visits recently. The visit before the most recent one was on July 3, 2026. On both visits, parking wasn't an issue, but I'm sure it may get tighter at busier peak times. The outside of the business is easy to see with a nice outdoor seating area and lights and colors of the building. Once you come inside, there is a waiting area if they are busy, but this was not the case for us on either of the recent visits. The place looks bigger once you're inside. It was pretty busy overall since it was around 5 pm when we got here on July 3rd. We were seated at a booth at the bar area. It wasn't long for someone to come by and drop off the chips and salsa at the table. It wasn't too long after when a server came over to the table and asked us what we wanted to drink. We both ended up just having water to drink on this visit. After getting the drinks, he asked if we were ready to order, but we weren't yet since it had been quite some time since we had been here (2016). We did order the Cheese Dip appetizer (regular size) though. After the cheese dip came out, we were finally ready to order. On this visit, I ordered the Super Burrito with Chicken (no rice), while my mom ordered the Burrito Bowl with ground beef. After about ten minutes or so, the food came out to the table and both entrees looked really good and hot. The Super Burrito was big and messy, just as expected. It was so good though. The flavors carried throughout the entree. My mom really loved the burrito bowl that she had too. The most recent visit was on August 4, 2026. We came in around the same time as we did the month before, but it wasn't as busy yet, though it was busy by the time we were done. On this visit, we ordered the Cheese Dip (regular size) for the appetizer again. Since this was on a Tuesday, my mom decided to get the Taco Tuesday Deal with ground beef. I did the Burrito Bowl with chicken (no rice) this time. It didn't take as long for the food to come out (under 10 min) this time. Both entrees looked good, just like the prior visit. The burrito bowl was packed with flavor and was bigger than I thought. I was definitely full by the time I was done. My mom liked the Taco Tuesday special as well. Overall, both recent visits were great. The food and service were on point. I will note that if you use a credit card, there is a 3% processing fee for using a credit card. First off- Birria ramen? What?! I am her for it and it is so good. Best birria tacos I have ever enjoyed. My son ordered as well and has severe peanut and treenut allergies and was able to dine here safely. Staff was very knowledgeable and assured me there was no peanuts, treenuts or oils used in kitchen. The blood orange margarita was on the sweet side but delicious. I would highly recommend. So good we came twice! Literally came here on the way to our airbnb. I love Mexican and we picked this place at random. There were 3 of us on Thursday and we came back on Saturday with 8. Thursday we made it for happy hour. I got the house margarita (pictured). It was the perfect size to only need one. I ordered the spinach enchiladas and honestly forgot to take a picture because I was so excited to eat after traveling. As an appetizer we also had their queso. Everything was perfect. They even sang me happy birthday and brought me a shot (I think a lemon drop). We talked about the food with the friends who hadn't made it yet and they wanted to go so we ran it back on Saturday. We were sat immediately both days. Even with large parties they were very accommodating. They had a back room where we sat and then an even larger party was seated beside us. They, too, were celebrating birthdays. It was great energy in the room. Service was quick and everyone's order was correct a small but important detail especially with large parties. The menu is extensive, filled with traditional items and some innovative, delicious dishes. It isn't an inexpensive Mexican meal but the prices are more than fair and portions are generous. Moving to this side of town, we knew there was a Jose Tequilas as we had one on the Salem side of town. Over there, it was...ok. The flavor is decent, drinks are pretty good but it never truly hit like we wanted it to. Coming over here and seeing it always packed had us wondering how different it was in comparison. I asked a few friends that lived on this side what were the best Mexican spots on this side of town and they named a few other places with one friend stating "by far Jose is the best". With Lucky Oyster being one of my wife's favorite places to hang that always has BUDLIGHT cold, great deal and available, it was hard to venture over to Jose. It was also the fact that we rarely go out to Mexican as she is not a tequila fan and the kids don't eat it much. We did surrender and try a different restaurant first. That one had GREAT drinks that was worth every penny but the food was so salty, you could barely eat it. Almost to the point of being uneatable. The flavor was good but I could feel my blood pressure rising and that alone made us not want to return. The second place we tried had most of our new neighbors talking about that spot. It has a lovely location but the difference being the opposite of the other restaurant. It was much lower on the sodium profile with the flavors almost needing more. The prices were a bit high as well but I would much rather have that vs the high sodium. Don't get me wrong, It was a clean flavor that would fit for many but we felt it could have just a tiny bit more. Easily something you could add on your own but this is not about that restaurant. After a few months passing by, I finally made it over to Jose. When I first made it over, I was with a buddy for lunch and we sat at the bar (the yelp pic of this location is what I ordered). The drinks were AWESOME but how I knew right away this was going to be good was the flavor of the chips and dips. That says so much right off the top. It had spice, it was extremely fresh, the white sauce was made just right.. ummm so delicious putting me in the mood for the lunch meal. I ordered the Texano lunch burrito and when that came out, I was blown away! It was massive but most importantly, the flavors were spot on for my taste. It had the right amount of salt, cheese, heat, all of it was spot on as I was chowing down. I couldn't get through it all which I was glad I didn't because I was so stuffed from the chips and dip, the massive strong margarita and that humungous burrito, I needed a nap hahahah. I told the wife "this was the place" and the next time we tried Mexican together, we needed to hit this up. Well, that happened on a little date night and she immediately agreed it had the best flavor and sitting outside was good people watching even though it faces the street. You see so much of what people are doing in the cars it's quite hilarious or unbelievable. She wasn't a fan of the dips but couldn't knock how well done it was. She doesn't take to heat well but for me, I was dang near drinking it! Now I will say, I did notice the price change and that threw me back a little but I also understood with inflation and everywhere had to raise in some fashion but my only gripe with that was the size difference as well. I ordered the Cowboy Burrito that should have been just as massive as a LUNCH burrito but it came out half the size and almost flattened. You can see that in my pics. I am not saying it wasn't absolutely delicious but I am saying I was a little dissappointed with the price increase but volume decrease. Either way, it was a nice time visiting with the wife outside and we still say if you want the best flavor (in our opinion), this spot has that. Some may like it more salty and some may like it more on the cleaner side. You have that variety around this area but for me, this one has the right spice, salt, cheesy flavor with amazing sauces with a cool vibe. Oh, let me not forget to mention THE BEST MARKEE SIGN AROUND! Their sign out front is hilarious. You will have to see for yourself what I mean along with giving this place a try if you haven't. Went here with the family for a last minute dinner that turned into one of the best dinners I've ever had in Virginia. The food was fantastic, as is the usual at Jose Tequilas they know very well what they're doing and they're doing it great. The highlight of this visit was the service. Never in all my years have I had service like we received here. Drinks and water were always full, new napkins brought to the table with no request, constant flow of chips and salsa, immediately seated, and the food was out so fast our table had to do a double take. The staff was friendly and made good conversation with the table, but not to the point of being overbearing. Every single restaurant needs to take notes on these guys and gals, because they know exactly what it takes to get people back in their doors. The restaurant itself is very clean, music is enjoyable and played at the perfect volume, and the decorations are fun and very well done. Jose Tequilas is always a great place to go for Mexican. This particular location always checked up on us to make sure everything was satisfactory. I appreciated that because most restaurants I have been to don't even check if I need a refill on my water or other beverages. The waiters here were nice and attentive. Immediately after being set down, they brought out the nachos and salsa! Extremely delicious & they even replaced our salsa before we even asked. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the Queso Fundido, but the nachos pair EXTREMELY WELL with it. Overall the food was delicious. I ordered the Brian Special -- only because of my name (I'm kidding). It was fantastic! The beans,rice, chicken, and steak were so good, I'd definitely order it again and everything paired so well together. First time here for a family dinner. We were greeted upon arrival and seated right away. Our server did an amazing job and kept our drinks full (a plus). Chips and salsa on the house, crispy chips and flavorful salsa. I ordered birria tacos and loved it. The meat was tender and flavorful and the tortilla had a crunch to it which tasted cheesy just perfect for dipping it in the broth. The rice was perfectly cooked and had some veggies. I've been to this location twice and grub hubbed once. I've never been disappointed or disatisfied by anything I ordered at this location. This chain has a great menu, I am always pleased that the quality of the food never changes when you change locations. The quick and dirty is that, I didnt give them 5 stars because theres always a slight communication disconnect with the servers. Its nothing too unbearbale but it is a factor in regards to why they didnt get 5 stars. The menu is large in size, clear, colorful and understandable. The fact that there is a separate drink menu is a plus for me. They certainly put a lot of effort into both menus. The restaurant was clean and not overly crowded. When I came in, there was no one at the hostess stand to greet or seat me. There was a gentleman talking to customers nearby who came over to ask if I had been helped. I assume that maybe he was a Supervisor or Manager. Either way, kudos to him for being so attentive. I was then seated and waited a minute for the server. No dramtic time frame. I settled on a pollo y camaron ensalada. My expections were well over being exceeded. This salad was so beautiful and delicious. The chicken/pollo and shrimp/camaron was grilled to perfection. There was avocado, cucumbers, tomatoes, and oranges. I asked to have the citrus dressing for it, but was told I couldnt have it. Not exactly sure why, the server couldnt explain, just told me "NO" when I asked. I had an experience where I Grub Hubbed dip and chips and of course that was awesome as well. The seafood queso with shrimp and crab is a go to for me. It is a lot like its own meal. I always end up with so much to take home. Coconut mojitos are a must have here too! We came here recently for lunch and found the service to be very friendly and efficient. There was a nice happy crowd there that day so that speaks well of the atmosphere ,food and service. The salsa sauce that was served with the chips was above average and very flavorful. The chicken enchilada was too drenched in cheese and the chicken had no flavor. I never saw an enchilada like that. On the other hand, the chicken tacos were quite flavorful. I like the mashed beans but my wife would've preferred real beans. I really enjoy Jose Tequilas. I think it's got a good atmosphere and the food is good. I've enjoyed myself every time I've been here. It's a local chain, so there are several locations scattered around the VA Beach area (and maybe more, I don't know). I've eaten at two of their locations and would say the quality is consistent (good) across both. They have a special white salsa they bring out with the chips and red salsa which is really nice. I typically have the California burrito with steak and french fries, the cowboy burrito is also pretty good. As I've mentioned the food is always very good here. I've never had anyone complain about the quality of food. So why only four stars? Well, the service has been TERRIBLE almost every single time we've gone. Please don't misunderstand everyone is friendly, and in their defense they are usually very busy so it's understandable they may lose sight of you for a while or service may be a little slow, but the service has been an absolute joke almost every time I've gone. One time I swear that our server forgot that we were there and forgot what we ordered. One time, I ordered the queso appetizer right after we were seated and it didn't come out until AFTER we had already received our checks. I pointed to it on the check and told the server we never got it (thinking he would take it off the bill) he left and returned five minutes later with the queso (and didn't take it off the bill). In summary, I like Jose Tequilas. I like the atmosphere. I like the food. I just don't like the service. But in spite of that I keep coming back. read more

Love this place. We dine in and carry out 2 or 3 times a month and have never had any issues I always have a skinny girl margarita and they do not skimp on the alchohol. The fajitas are wonderful. The chimichangas are fabulous. The chips and salsa as well as the cheese dip will not disapoint.
