The food was southern home cooking. The seasonings were right out of grandma's kitchen. We enjoyed an all sides meal collard greens, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and steamed broccoli (with a little added cheese. Our appetizer was dill fried pickles. The food here is very good and the food is just as nice. Visited while I was getting to know Suffolk prior to my move. My sister and I stopped in. Enjoyed the pulled pork barbeque and fries. Very spacious and open layout of establishment. Parking is okay they have parking in front of the building and in the back. Very diverse crowd here and I appreciate that. My wife & I went for dinner while passing through Suffolk as Masons was close to the hotel. We were quickly seated & had our orders taken by a friendly waitress. Unfortunately the kitchen was extremely slow in getting our food out which seemed strange for a barbecue joint. In addition the place was very noisy so difficult to chat while waiting. This meal was BOMB!!! Where do I start. The beef brisket is fork tender and not over dry. My fork immediately went to the well seasoned green beans. Loaded with chunks of Brisket served piping hot and DELICIOUS. Baked beans gave them competition on my plate. Delicious flavored with BBQ and chef special seasoning, I'm sure. As if the Brisket. Beans and green beans weren't enough, 2 crunchy outside and soft inside hush puppies sit on my plate, but not for long Ok, back to the goods. After a long day on the road, we arrive at Main Street , pull up restaurants in the area, and Mason's popped up. Short trip via GPS. Mason's is tucked visible from Godwin blvd and tucked away at the end of a small strip mall. Offering outdoor covered patio seating. Our waitress greeted us with a friendly hello and said we could choose our seats. Approx 15 tables of various seats we chose a hi top with 4 chairs. Although working alone this evening, we were quickly attended to. Our waitress took a drink order as we were given the specials of the day menu, and she let us know what they were out of. This evening, it was ribs and Sailsbury steak. I already knew I was here for the Brisket. Our meals were out hot and nicely plated. We each bit I enjoyed, wanted so much to devour my entire meal, but it's been a long weekend with moving and traveling today, so I didn't want to get too full. We both enjoyed our meals so much listening to music n the background and peaking st The many TV'S placed on the each wall. Our waitress also placed on the table with the meals a variety of BBQ sauces, named after VA towns. Too cute!! I had to try the Chucka tuck, Cypress, and Nasmond. There is a vinegar based sauce also, I did not try. Each one was more tasty than the other. Nothing was missing from the meal, I will be back soon to try the smoked ribs. I'm sure they are a hit. Tried the brisket platter. Picked it up on the way to work. I thought it was kind of strange they didn't ask me if I wanted any barbecue sauce but I thought maybe they have a house sauce that they put in the plate. There was no barbecue sauce. Mrs and I were looking for a place we could have a Friday chill date night. the atmosphere was hard to determine, are they a bar, a restaurant, or a pool hall? Mason's Grill offers a table for two or eight they could accommodate just about any size party. The challenge is you do not know what the expectation is to be. The noise level was extremely high or it may have been the locals at the pool table. One note to make is the location is very discreet and you would not know they are there unless you are a local or you Yelp their location. Open seating and we chose the high table near the rear but close to the pool table. It was not that we wanted to play pool but it was a cool night and we wanted to get away from the door. Our server Savanah came immediately and served us water and then gave us time to look over the menu which was both tangible and electronic. The QR code menu was not user-friendly if. you are not tech-savvy. We finally settled on what we wanted but Savanah never came back to our table to get our order, we were served by another waitress. Drinks and meals ordered (sampler platter} we shared ribs, pull pork, slice brisket, mac & cheese, and sweet potato fries. When our order arrived the sides seemed to be premade. The mac and cheese were cold, and so were the sweet potato fries. The fries are not fresh they are heated and served fries. The ribs were tough but the brisket and pulled pork were great. We sent the sides back for a fresher order but we were still unsatisfied with the quality. I guess I watch too many diners, drive-ins, and dives. Honestly am in love with this place! It's cute and casual, and the staff are friendly and nice. The food is really good as well. We had gotten the nachos to share, and they hit every note. Savory from the meat and cheese, spicy from the jalapeños, sweet from the bbq, and texturally pleasing as well. I think them adding the salsa is a bit unnecessary because of this, but for some of the chips that don't have a lot on them, it works. As for entrees go, I got the shrimp tacos with hushpuppies, and I could eat that all day honestly. Their hushpuppies don't come with a sauce, but it truly isn't necessary, they're so flavorful and tender and overall great on their own. The shrimp tacos, while not looking like much, were also so bomb. I love the spicy sauce they're tossed in, and with the toppings, they really work well together. Their pickled onions are flavorful and were a nice added touch. I'd love to try more things and come here again sometime! read more

This might sound harsh, but I am from Texas so I am tough when it comes to BBQ. Mason's is a great bar to meet up with friends. Their food is good except BBQ. It's ok bbq. They are slow on service as they can get busy and understaffed. If you need some bar food they got you. Don't expect amazing bbq if you go. Amazing date night! We shared the crabby tots with ice cold beers. Dawn was a fantastic server suggesting the Mason burger with homemade slow cooked collards and Smokey and tender baby back ribs with the best baked beans we have had! Decided to visit this place since it shares the same name as my cousin lol. The food was complete trash. About everything on the menu was "out of stock" and the food we did get was not seasoned, and tasted bland. Also the service was lacking big time. Out waitress was very kind, but it took about 45 min to receive the food we ordered. I could understand the wait if the place was packed, but there was only about 3 other patrons in the restaurant at the time we were there. Ambiance was "meh" at best, and the atmosphere was equivalent to a funeral home. The only positive was the strawberry crumble cake thing. That was very delicious. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for some time... well a few months ago, I was able to check it out with my babe. My high school football team was playing in the area and we figured we stop in to grab some drinks and a bite to eat. We didn't want anything heavy, but I at least wanted to check out the menu. The menu is pretty straight forward. I ordered my drink and opted to try the crabcake over top my salad. Not sure what I was expecting for under $10... but the crabcake was just OK. All in all, I like this place. I love the hometown vibe. It appears to be a local hangout spot. The restaurant doesn't seem big at all. But there is a full bar top with seating. There are booths and table/chairs throughout the restaurant... it's tight. The service was a bit slow, but they were busy on a Friday night about 6pm. There was a party in progress too. Omg I just came in here on my birthday for take out!!!! Honey everything was to die for!!!! I had the sampler platter and my brother had the chicken tenders. Wow the best bbq food I ever had!! The brisket melted in my mouth the ribs were so tender man and the hush puppies had pieces of corn!!! Amazing!!!!!! I am visiting for nyc but am stopping back her before my trip is over!!! First you're not a smokehouse. You're a strip mall bar at best. On that point either be a bar or a restaurant you OBVIOUSLY can't do both. First of all let me begin by saying it hurts me to even write this. We have been loyal patrons of Mason's ever since the day they opened their doors. We kept overlooking the areas they locked in because the food was good. But unfortunately over time the place has gone downhill. The past 4-5 times we have gone, the food takes astronomically long to get out of the kitchen. We went last night at 4:30PM, well before the dinner rush, when there were maybe 3 other tables and a few people at the bar. It took at least 35-40 minutes just to get our brisket and pork nachos appetizer, that cost $20 and came out cold and 80% chips, and all of the brisket was nothing but fatty pieces. The service is typically always bad recently. Our server last night did not check on us a single time after we received our appetizer and food and me and my daughters drinks sat empty the last half of the time we were there. I will say my husband's wings were good and so was my chicken sandwich, it was very tasty but took forever to come out. My daughter got the children's chicken bites and fries, and it seemed odd to me that she was not interested in eating them at all when they are usually really good. We took them home and I reheated them the next day in the air fryer, only to discover that they changed them from white meat to dark thigh meat on the down low thinking no one would notice?? The texture was rubbery and slimy and just not good. What child wants a THIGH meat nugget. This was just the cherry on top for all the corners I have been noticing they are cutting. After coming here for so many years I do not think we will be back. read more

The food is always good. When Dawn is there, the service is top notch. But, like tonight (Thursday), the waitress we got always has an attitude and acts like I should be grateful for her lack of service. For a sports bar, it always amazes me how you have TVs on, but they are not playing sports. They are playing talk shows. That is of no interest to anyone. I can't read lips. I was looking at 4 TVs tonight and two had basketball talk shows (one was past championships, the other was current), one had last season's football between Bills and Bengals, one had golf. You hand out coasters advertising baseball season and never have baseball on. You even have a poster on your wall advertising baseball, yet no baseball on TV. When I've asked before about showing some baseball, the aforementioned waitress that we had tonight, rolls her eyes and acts like it is a major problem. Dawn will change it or attempt to. I had the worse experience at this restaurant. I paid $52.20 for an order of nachos and a cheeseburger This was a to go order and they said they would bring the food out to my car . After waiting for over 45 minutes I had to go inside and ask if my order was ready . The food was just sitting on a table . The waitress said she didn't see us outside. When I got home I realized I was overcharged and the food was barely warm . I called and explained. The waitress said there was no manager there and she would tell the manager on Monday . I ended up messaging him on facebook. I finally heard back from him on Tuesday. He claimed I ordered double brisket which I did not ! Plus they charged 18% gratuity of $7.20 I had to go inside to get my order so why would I be charged that . The manager/owner was not very nice and acted like it was no big deal . He did not try to make it right. I had to practically beg to get refunded the amount they overcharged me . I will never step foot in the place again . read more

We picked this spot from Yelp as a meeting point and because of the food pics!!!! They have TVs all around playing different sports/news stations. They also had a pool table...I don't ply pool but I tried and had fun. They have a drink menu with different types of crushes. I got the blueberry lemonade crush and it was so good, I had to do it again!!! We ordered the pimento cheese appetizer which was good so I ordered a pint for home. They were out of fried pickles which was a bummer because they looked good!!! I ordered a burger and the patty was HUGE...you could tell it was hand formed. It had plenty of yummy bacon. Pulled off Hwy 58 in Suffolk and stopped at Mason's, conveniently right off the highway. Asked the waitress whether to have pulled pork barbeque or beef brisket. She recommended the brisket and, boy, was she right! The sandwich had thick slabs of brisket and gooey cheddar. The beef was meltingly tender. She brought 6 different barbeque sauces so I could dress it to my liking. I went for the Tangy/Spicy sauce and it was perfect. My companion had the fried catfish sandwich and I've never seen so much fish on one sandwich. We both enjoyed the hot, fresh fries. This restaurant is a real hidden gem. Friendly atmosphere and very well-prepared food at a reasonable price. The waitress couldn't have been nicer. read more

This is a great local bar with very good bar food. I had the smoked wings with Chuckatuck sauce and the chopped salad. I grew up in Chuckatuck so the BBQ sauce was an easy and excellent choice.
