The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors was an interesting spot in the Town of Wappinger. It is basically an…read moreart museum featuring psychadelic art that they readily admit was inspired due to trips on LSD and other drugs. Also, the main artist is Alex Grey who for a long time has done artwork for the band Tool. I think at first the art seems very impressive and trippy, but after a while it all starts to feel the same. There is a cafe on site but I did not visit as the building it was housed in asked you to take off your shoes and it was snowy the day I went. At 20 dollars it feels a bit expensive but overall I am glad I went. That said, some detractors online have called the place "a cult" and the vibes I felt were a little weird. I don't use the term lightly, but just going to state what others have said. Apparently they also have once a month events (around the full moon?) that neighbors have described as very loud. So definitely some negative reports on them not being the best neighbors. In short, worth a visit to check out the art, but not sure about some of the other programming.

What a fun experience!…read more We took a 2 hour lesson with Adam and learned how to make a bowl. We got 3 tutorials, as many tries with clay balls as we needed and he came around often and was eager to help and super informative. Only thing is he made it look so easy look which it isn't ;) It was a great intro to pottery and the cost to fire and keep anything you made was reasonable at $10 per piece. The class was $55. Would def recommend!

But to my relief, as soon as you walk through the doors EVERYONE (instructors, the owners, individuals with memberships) all collectively make you feel right at home. They have all taught me something. offered help & support if I need it and are just super nice! If you are considering trying out a class, do it. Get your kids involved it is MORE than worth it. And IF you're trying out one of their 8 week classes like I am...they provide you access to the tools you need (at a low expense) and unlimited clay so it's OK TO MESS UP. I encourage you to just do it. It's money very well spent and the community here is very very generous and supportive.

She escorted us into the gallery which we didn't expect to be so large and full of beautiful abstracts by Donna Manger-Weil. We received a warm welcome from Donna's business partner Ken when we arrived on a quiet Sunday morning - he gave us a quick tour of the gallery, showed us the print machine that can reproduce artworks on canvas, and took us to see Donna's art studio. It is not everyday you can be inside an artist's work space to witness all the creativity! As an added bonus, we saw two young deers nippling at the grass outside the studio.. Donna's paintings were very colorful and each piece has an interesting story behind. The gallery was very spacious and you can really take your time to soak in the art work with a glass of wine!
