My local Cattle Baron closed during the pandemic and is sorely missed. When I read that another location had closed, I decided to drive to Hobbs to support that location. It may be nostalgia, but I think it was better than the one I used to frequent. It's all about the salad bar here. It's extensive, with constantly rotated fresh ingredients. I also had the green chile and pepper jack ribeye medium rare, and it was cooked to perfection. The old west atmosphere is pleasant, and our service was prompt and polite. I won't wait so long to go again.

Bumping my previous rating of Cattle Baron up to 4 stars. This is the best place in town to chat with an old friend and enjoy a salad bar lunch! Their prices for said soup/salad bar are $12.95 per adult (as of 10/31/2022) not including a drink. I like that they give you a ginormous plate to stack all the fresh veggies onto... and they have quite the array. Plus homestyle Ranch dressing--so good! The soups are decent, but they also offer a few side dishes that are good. Not bad because you are allowed to return for seconds, thirds... Our waitress Aylin didn't kick us out or pressure us when my friend & I were deep in discussion about our pasts. Large parking lot. Cozy atmosphere. Full bar. I'm a fan of this lunch routine. Dinner has always been a different story...

I always stop in at Cattle Baron when visiting my parents in NM - it is a tradition. I was shocked the reviews were so low when opening my app but could not disagree more with the opinions of others when I've always had an awesome experience! I joined 5 other friends for dinner recently during Thanksgiving break and we walked in and had a table within 5 minutes of arriving. We started with the sampler appetizer plate and the delicious bread they bring out when you sit down. It was all amazing and our favorite was the wontons and definitely would recommend. I ordered the steak NM with green chili and pepper jack cheese on top. It was cooked medium to perfection and had a loaded baked potato on the side. Not to mention - SALAD BAR! $4 more to add the epic salad bar is worth it to your meal. They have anything you could dream up for toppings and have a selection of soups too. I enjoyed the chicken enchilada soup the day I went and it was sooooo good! My friends also ordered steaks and one had the bourbon glaze and says it's to die for. I'm not a whiskey fan but if you are, it's a must try! I will be back soon. I always look forward to having dinner here when visiting in NM.

Good food and good service. Medium prices. A good for a more elegant place to eat.

A bit pricy for Hobbs, but probably the best salad bar on town. Steaks are ok. Not as good as they used to be. Service is always good.

RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4| Service: 4 | Ambiance: 2 | Price: 3 PARKING There is ample free parking at the Broadmoor Mall which is more like a hall. Anyway. You shouldn't have a problem parking within walking distance. Also, trucks/trailers should have plenty of space to park. LOCATION/AMBIANCE This restaurant took the place of the long-standing Furr's which held a special place in my heart. They have repainted and redecorated the main dining room with seafood and ocean vibes. THE GRUB Both my significant other and I opted for the 1/2 pound crab boil ($17.99). We both wanted garlic butter seasoning at medium spice level. My photo didn't do it justice, but each steamed bag has several slices (like maybe 5) of andouille sausage, a piece of corn on the cob, and maybe 3 small potatoes. We really enjoyed ours, but the crab could have been more fresh. Welcome to Hobbs, NM where most seafood arrives frozen. :) The taro milk tea ($4.99) was iced, but stayed super warm for a long time. While it had a slightly sweeter flavor than I like, it was better when I got home to add ice to it as I did not drink much of it at the restaurant. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUBI did not see a kid's menu, however, my kiddos were in school & I forgot to ask if they had one. SERVICE We were not promptly greeted - it even took a while for someone to seat us, but once they did things went smoothly. Our waitress didn't even ask my SO if he wanted his tea refilled. She just did it. Love that. MY FAVORITE PART... How our waitress hustled for us about 10 other tables all by herself. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The two out-of-sync TVs playing music videos. TIP Several customers came in for order pickups, so it seems like a decent spot for takeout.

I should have looked more carefully at the menu, but I have never been to a less vegetarian friendly Mexican food place. I ordered a Paloma and it was the worst I have ever had. It tasted like it had no alcohol at all. The place is tiny, and then they had a band coming to play. It was vibrating the entire building. My teeth were rattling. The music itself would have been pleasant if it wasn't eardrum shattering. My husband liked his drink. The service was fine, although there was a communication barrier, I blame myself and not the waitress. I think that's about it. It was also not cheap like others are commenting. This was a big fat fail. Let me add - per my Apple Watch, the decibel level got up to 107 db, and 10+ mins over 95 can damage your hearing! I've been to plenty of places with live music, but never anything that incredibly loud. There were really young kids in there, too!

I really enjoyed a night out here with my parents for a unique meal in this small town. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4.5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING Could be better. There is some on the north side right next to the restaurant or in the lot just across the street. There is minimal parking on the south side. It's a busy street so be careful. LOCATION/AMBIANCE This medium-sized venue is located on the south side of town with busy Dal Paso Street nearby. My dad refers to it as the ghetto. Some areas are rundown indeed and some outside work could be done, but it's okay. Inside, the high ceilings, flat screen TVs, Spanish music, and some oceanside vibes invite you to an open-style dining area. There was one lone restroom which I personally hate because sharing with other men is disgusting. It's well-lit inside. While we were there, a live 5-piece band came in to play about 8 songs. They never asked us gringos what we wanted to hear. Lol. THE GRUB Complimentary chips were decent, but not very salty. The first batch of salsa was mild. The second batch we received was a bit more smoky-flavored and had more of a chipotle essence to it. + michelada especial ($11) with Modelo - had bacon, cucumber, and shrimp too. So refreshing after a long day! + filete al olivo ($18) - "Basa swai fillet skillet cooked with olive oil, garlic, and chile de arbol served with rice and salad." I really enjoyed this because it came with three small flour tortillas - the perfect portion for me. But, the outer edges of the fish were a bit crispy and hard to cut into with my fork. That's the only silverware we were given was a fork each. + torre altata ($23) - this was a tower of all kinds of items: shrimp ceviche, cooked shrimp, lime juice-marinated shrimp, octopus, Mexican scallops, tuna, onion and cucumber in a red sauce and topped with avocado and chiltepin pepper. My dad said it was way too much for him, but it was good. + tacos de camaron ($14) - my mom devoured hers, not even bothering to let us try it so it must have been really good. I think it was three smaller tacos. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They had a nice little kid's menu, but my kids were elsewhere so I'm not sure how it fared. SERVICE Most of the employees spoke English, but were also bilingual in Spanish and all of them were friendly. They worked super fast to bus tables, get drink orders, and serve meals. MY FAVORITE PART... My michelada! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The wait to get in on a Friday night. Why don't they use OpenTable?! Lol.

The ribeye was perfectly seared--juicy, tender, and full of rich flavor, cooked exactly as ordered. Paired with their fried rice, which is fluffy, loaded with fresh veggies, egg, and that signature wok-tossed taste, it's a winning duo. It was not greasy. Manager gave our group a hard time for asking to add one person to our table, asking, "Is that the real number or should I just plan for a couple extra." The number could be zero, brother, and your restaurant isn't full. Server doesn't know anything about the bar menu. Asked us to pick our drinks ourselves from her server tablet. Wine pours were wildly inconsistent. Whites came in at like three ounces and the red was six plus. When asked, we were told "That's how white wine is served." It's not. Wine pours are standard, regardless of the glass. An old fashioned came as a whiskey neat. Server didn't know that was wrong. Everything took twice as long as it should. Drinks were thirty minutes and the food was an hour. This used to be one of the best restaurants in Hobbs. Now, I'm not sure it's even worth going to. New management is not looking great. Training is absolutely terrible, at the least.

RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 3 PARKING Parking is free and ample. LOCATION/AMBIANCE This small restaurant is located in the same building as Kountry Korral. Just like the name says, it has outlaw memorabilia scattered throughout. The seating arrangements are mainly for small groups or couples. THE GRUB They have a pretty nice selection of items on their menu. I was anticipating a large protein-filled dinner later in the evening, so I opted for the New Mexican salad ($16.29). I highly recommend this salad with jalapeño Ranch dressing... it was fresh and loaded with so many wonderful colors and flavors: fresh greens, tomato, onion, shredded cheese, croutons, tortilla chips, pico de gallo, and guacomole. My kiddos begged me to bring them spaghetti for our Friday lunch date at school. You can order this kid's menu item with meat sauce, plain sauce, or with meatballs. My daughters both loved their meatballs. Each plate came out to $11.97 and did not come with anything else - no bread, side salad, or drink. Kind of steep if you ask me. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They definitely have a decent kid's menu, however, I didn't get any photos of it. Next time! SERVICE Very friendly over the phone. Quick to assist in person.
