I stumbled onto this place and thought it was a good buffet, especially for the price.

Great food and even better people. Johnny and Teri are awesome. Home cooking, relaxed atmosphere, and if it's not right, they fix it.

*** good choice for some Baja-style Mexican food in southeastern New Mexico ***…read more When I have a lot on my mind, I drive to a new-to-me place and EAT. Baja Grill in Lovington, NM, was on my bookmarks for a long time. It was well worth the wait! At around 1:45 pm, I walked into a nearly empty restaurant. I was seated right away and served some very good red salsa and crispy, semi-thick homemade tortilla chips. I liked the variety of high-top and normal-height tables. I knew as soon as I saw "blackened tilapia" on the menu I had to have it. "Served on a bed of rice pila" ($12.99), it also came with my choice of two sides. The charro beans and fried okra were excellent! While my fish wasn't the freshest, the seasoning was really delicious. The outer edges were crispy, but inside the fish was flaky and moist. I also ordered a refreshing Sprite. Paid cash. Got just a little less than $4 back. Service was nice, but my waitress only checked on me after she realized I was ready to go. The food is fairly unique to Lea County. I can see why my employees like this place. I'm glad I had a lot on my mind that day... Really dumb parking lot, though. No painted lines so everyone just parks like idiots. And it's rather dull on the outside. Hard to easily recognize that it's a place that serves seafood. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 4 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 2 PARKING The huge white building has parking all around it. LOCATION/AMBIANCE When you walk in there is a ranch-style home vibe. The old register was something I overheard the owner had found like 30 years prior in a shop in Roswell -- and it's still in good working condition! The ceilings are high. There were family photos adorning the walls and counters. The restroom needs a little work. It was difficult to get one of the sink handles to close properly - no wonder the water was running when I walked in... and the restrooms are a bit weird to get to as they are way far in the back. THE GRUB I had heard their onion rings were delicious, but I was only feeling a patty melt ($10) and a side of avocado ($2.50) and a jalapeno ($1). The patty melt was not hardly greasy at all, but lacked a bit of flavor. My waitress cut up my avocado and jalapeno like I was a child which made me laugh. It was a good lunch with my lemonade served in a large styrofoam takeout cup (which had to have been around $2.50 because my grand total was $17 and some change). Their drinks were not listed on the menu that I received. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They do have a kid's menu currently (as of 9/19/2023) with chicken, chicken strips, steak fingers, or a taco with "avocado and nothing else!" (Their words, not mine.) SERVICE Service was okay. They took a while to get to me which I find to be absolutely reprehensible. I sat near the prep station and was passed by multiple employees so I'm not sure why even getting my drink order took so long. The employees, however, were on their phones and/or fratenizing with each other a bit too much for my liking. MY FAVORITE PART... The atmosphere. Aside from the year-round Christmas decor. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The price. Pretty steep for such a no-frills lunch if you ask me. Probably won't be back for a long time for that reason. TIPS + Cash only. + They have a drive-thru window.

At first I thought it was whipped cream as you can tell by the picture. As my appetizer I chose the jalapeño soup. I have to say that it was amazing even if it had no real substance to it other than cream of something and jalapeños. I think potatoes would be a nice addition to this soup. For dinner I chose the 8oz filet and I added blue cheese crumbles to the top slightly melted. The steak was cooked perfect and the flavor was nice. The veggies along with it were cooked well with minimal butter which I prefer. My waitress was perfect. She came around just enough and not to much. Nothing bothers me more than to come around so much that I can't enjoy my food. I'm a happy medium kind of guy when it comes to that and she did a great job balancing her other customers and I. Over all my experience was wonderful. I will definitely be dining her again before I leave town.

Alex was by far the best server I have had in Hobbs to date. Why? He was very attentive. Did not forget a thing. Had a sense of humor. Never scowled. Constantly smiled. Moved around so he could hear our party of - how many was there? I think 17. I do not love the food here, but this time my country fried sirloin was not overcooked and the gravy was good. Thank you bartend for taking care of my mom before our reservation! She had a "Kicker" margarita which features "a, often blue, tube filled with tequila and triple sec, up-ended into the drink to slowly add more alcohol." I think it was my dad's idea. Lol. My dish: Tacos a la Parilla ($14.99 for 3 soft tacos with grilled brisket, guacamole, jalapenos, onions, tomatoes) served with rice and beans. Absolutely delicious. I would get this again. My oldest daughter also had a brisket taco plate ($14.99) but the crispy variety without jalapeno or pico de gallo. My youngest daughter opted for a cheeseburger ($13.89) with fries ($2.00). If those weren't fresh hand-cut fries I would be surprised. They were yummy. Slightly crisp. Not too oily. The burger I would have eaten all by myself with its buttery fluffy buns. This is a close first place for burgers in Lovington with Lazy 6 being its competition. Their horchata was divine ($4.25 × 2). My youngest was happy with her sweet tea ($3.75). Loved the vibes inside. The ceilings and lighting fixtures were very interesting. Not overly decorated. Good Mexican music playing at a good decibel. Inside to the left is the meat market. It's clean. Organized. Other produce & goods were available. The fresh meat & ready-to-eat options looked nice. To the right was the restaurant grill. I was going to stay to eat, but there was a rather large group, consuming most of the booths and tables. Plus it was raining outside so I took my order for takeout back to work. My food stayed relatively warm all the way to Hobbs. THE GRUB On Thursday 1/4/2024 I tried the barbecue sandwich with fries ($7.99) on the lunch special menu. The bread was kind of flaky. The sandwich itself didn't seem substantial, but with the fries that were obviously the frozen variety it was a filling lunch for me. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB I did not see a kid's menu. And hoards of pigeons hang out above the covered parking where I had to position my trusty Jeep to wait for my food. The other thing I was irritated by was there was no visible menu at the drive-thru window. THE GRUB I asked about the Pancho burger which did not have a description on the menu the nice employee handed me. He said, "double meat, double cheese with green chili, ketchup and mustard..."
