This my second visit to this location and I have also eaten at the Roswell location too! A co-worker told me that he had a bad meal here last week. So, I decided to try it again-I called first to see if they were busy and the gal that answered the phone said they were not busy and I didn't need a reservation. When I got there 15 minutes later, she told me it would be a 15 minute wait. Unless I wanted to go into the bar, I looked around the corner and said okay. I sat done and while I was reading the menu, a lady asked me what I wanted to drink, but she never brought me anything. Several servers walked by me pretending I was invisible. I sat there waiting for my drink or someone to stop and take my order. Finally a blonde waitress (Bre something) stopped and asked me what I wanted to drink and brought me my drink and bread. Her timing was perfect because I was ready to walk out. I ordered a salad and NY strip steak. She promptly delivered my salad, which was very good. I was about halfway thru my salad when another lady brought my steak-now this is one of my pet peeves-not giving me enough time to digest my meal. Zero stars! This place is disgusting. There was a hair (very long) in my food. It was 10 min before someone even came back to our table for me tell inform them about the problem. When someone finally showed up there was no apology. No one cared. I asked to speak to the manager and said I didn't like the fact that no one cared about hair being in the food and I found it gross and no one even apologized. He then says oh well sorry you took it so personally. What in the world??? Are you kidding me. How on earth is this the manager. Very good menu. Entrees include salad bar which includes two soups of the day. The steaks, prime rib and jalapeño chicken are delicious. Ate here 3 times a week for a month and did not get burned out on the food. The service is very good. read more

We went here to have a drink or two and maybe an appetizer. When we entered, the hostess was kinda standing at her post, slouching over to the side a little, and just staring at us without a smile, grin, or even a hello. FINALLY, she spoke and asked us how many was in our party. We told her we would just sit at the bar. We walked ourselves to the bar and sat down. The bartender, Marissa, was very nice, attentive, and quick. She made a good Moscow Mule. My husband got a beer. We ended up not eating any appetizers because we weren't really that hungry. The bartender made it a pleasant experience, but the hostess was not friendly when we entered. We were VERY surprised when the hostess told us to have a good night as we were leaving since she was so rude when we entered. We will return to try the food one day. I ordered the prime rib when it arrived I took a bite and it was ice cold. I told the waitress and she took the steak back they put it on the grill and returned the same steak I originally bit off of which was now well done and my original order was medium.Feel uneasy about how sanitary they are there how many other people ordered a steak that they put back on the grill after being touched and eating off of. read more

First impression is the STENCH of the bar. It has that stale/soured water smell....disgusting, I wouldn't order a mixed drink from that bar if someone paid me to drink it..... The entire floor of the restaurant is a greasy trip hazard. The entire establishment has an uncleanly feeling (bathrooms, tables, dust on bottles over the bar). This is obviously a 100% management problem and could be easily corrected with some pride and elbow grease. For Hobbs, NM they have a great salad bar and the steaks are good. I ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeño shrimp and it was awesome! The kids menu even has a good steak. Service is poor (typical Hobbs). Half the tables were vacant and it still took almost 30 minutes to get seated. I forgot to mention that my blonde headed son found a long black hair on his plate, and our larger salad plates arrived somewhat dirty. read more

The salad bar was huge and varied and the Ny strip was decent but..... The prices are high for what you get, the service was just ok and a gross thing happened while we were there. While at the salad bar we saw the worker cleaning it pick up a piece of garnish off the floor and put it back on the salad bar - ick! I must say the wait staff at CB are an odd mixture! The waitresses we have had have been very got to excellent. The waiters are on the other hand either pompous poofs getting in people's way or trying to learn their job and get to be like the ladies! So they are either very bad or good leaning to getting better. The noise level tonight about 7 PM was more what I would expect from a Sports Bar rather than a high end Steak House. It must have been a bad night for a lot of people because the a portion of clientele was abnormally rude! The quality of the steak was just ok and it was prepared to minimums of being Medium Rare. The steak was tough and not what I am accustomed to from this establishment. I was afraid of this it happened to so many eateries in the oil field. Coming to Hobbs, New Mexico every few months, this is one of my favorite places to get a good meal in a town where it's fast food everywhere, or poor services. Our food was very good and ordered exactly how we liked (at first). The drinks came very quick and the waitress was very helpful. Also, defiantly one of the best salad bars I've ever been to. But, we decided to take an order to-go and bring it to my aunt, but they forgot the gravy that our aunt really wanted, and shorted us a chicken tender. This was a shock because the service was great before. Nothing too big, they fixed the mess up before we left and all was good. Would for sure come back next time I visit. read more

I'm new in town but I've been total "Cattle Baron" is THE STEAKHOUSE in town. Well,I describe it as a ramped up version of Ponderosa. (showing my age) no you don't order your steak while going through the line but that's just what it reminds me of. On the plus side (for them) we have been there several different days & times and it appears they are always busy! With a wait - we usually grab a seat in the bar so we can at least have a drink while we wait. The service leaves a little to be desired and I think it's just because they don't have enough staff, the servers always seem to be running around headless. The salad bar on the other hand gets 5 stars - nice selection of salads, 2-3 soups, 2 cheese blocks, and a nice array of salad fixins. I don't consider it a steak house but I do love the salad bar and chose to go there often because of it. Just wish it wasn't always packed at the door and a little faster/better service. I did have a patty melt on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite good - but how hard is a patty melt? - I was once there with a party of 8 and the server(male) was just a little too chatty for my liking, it was starting to become intrusive, there is a difference between cordial and nice and telling me your life story when I've never met you before. I had the Teriyaki Kabob. I thought it sounded tasty. I was wrong the meat tasted funny and had a mealy texture. Would not recommend. It was to come on bed of rice. No rice. It also had no sauce on it as described all for a rather costly amount of sixteen dollars. read more

Only come for the salad bar, ordered "top sirloin" (medium), received a flat steak completely over cooked. Sent back received another one that was (rare) which is way better than the burnt one but still not what I asked for when paying $18 for a steak. Horrible experience.... I ordered the 16 0z prime rib mr and it came out mw. My server was very apologetic and got me a new one. It was dropped off by a manager, his name was Erin. This is my favorite restaurant in Hobbs. The service is the best I've experienced in the city. Staff have always been polite and have been able to answer my questions about the ingredients used. The salad bar is what everyone seems to focus on, but I have really enjoyed their other menu items too. The steaks are delicious! The atmosphere is very nice, with a very Cowboy rugged type feel. It's the perfect place for my husband and I to have a date, or to bring the kids along and have a family meal. We love it! read more

For a Cattle Barron this one definitely needs some improving! The hostess was no where there was a line of people waiting to be seated. Waiter went very attentive and this was on a Tuesday night. I got the Alfredo pasta which was good. My fiance got the chickem fried steak and said it was just okay. The soup at the salad bar was a beef stew but had no beef. Worst experience. Waited mins before hostess even acknowledged us then instead of nicely attending us told us "to wait." Stopped in here tonight for some dinner. Found the place in yelp, read the reviews and gave it a try. I have to say that I waited a very short time, like maybe 2 minutes to be seated. I was addressed and had a drink in the way within moments of sitting down. I had the prime rib, it was very tender and tasty, I'd recommend it to my mom. I have to disagree with the reviews here...the Baron has always satisfied me, and I'm a steak lover. Great salad bar, love their prime rib, it's nicely kept and clean. The servers are friendly, however it is sometimes slow (it's usually very busy on weekend nights). My husband and I came in for the first time since the rebuild. The place looks lovely. The salad bar is by far the best in town but still could offer more healthy options (a lot of heavily mayonnaise salads and sweets were half the bar). The prices on the steaks were beyond our budget so hubby got a burger which was very good. And I was able to order a healthy a la carte dinner...grilled chicken breast, baked sweet potato and asparagus. I was able to customize (ask for omissions, substitutions and condiments on the side) as needed for my needs. Our waitress provided great service and was very accommodating. I could not resist the fresh bread...it was very good and they are generous with the butter! We were too full to order dessert. This busines is temporarily closed. The building has been razed and a local told me it would be rebuilt and reopened. Apparently there were structural deficiencies which could not be renovated. I ate here a few times previously and appreciated the quality salad bar and decent atmosphere. That said, I've only ate at one place in Hobbs which earned four stars, and this isn't it. read more

Staff is very unfriendly, my Caesar salad was FROZEN on the bottom and the waitress told "oh it's because we have them on chilled plates" I refused another salad. They were advertising a Cabernet so I asked them for a glass and after taking about 20 min came back with "if you want that kind of wine you have to buy a bottle",,.. The potato skins were ok, I ordered the prime rib medium rare, the funny thing about it was that it was overcooked and cold lol.
