It was a very sad and emotional day but the person behind the front desk at Central City Animal Hospital was very kind and caring and made this day just a little bit better given the circumstances of the demise of a very dear and beloved pet.

My pets have been to both Rob Ashburner and to his daughter Claire. Every time, I've found them to be thorough, kind, gentle and compassionate. Not just with my pets, but with me as well. Which is important when you're dealing with the stress or grief that happens when your animals are hurt or sick. Any time I take my pets there, they follow up and seem to genuinely care how you and your pets are doing. They ask you first before making any major decisions about procedures or medications. (Some vets don't do this, they just hand you a whopping bill.) And I'll be forever grateful for the time they accommodated me at the last minute for an emergency and didn't charge extra for doing so. I'm also happy with the staff at the front desk. I've found them to be really patient, helpful and courteous. Nobody there pushes you to get products or procedures your pets don't need. Everyone at West King Edward Animal clinic seems to do their job well because they care about what they do.

Most owners don't want to see their pets in pain or the animal struggles so that would cause conflict if the owner were to see their pets treatment as they are not accustomed to the vet environment. He also cheaps out on equipment and a lot of the stuff that is necessary for an animal hospital so if he were to reject an animals surgery it is because he either doesn't know how to do it or he lacks the equipment because it's "too expensive" to buy the equipment, he doesn't do "complicated" surgeries and if he were he would call his son to do it. As for prescriptions that's supposed to be his job but he makes an assistant who worked there for less than a day do it with no instructions whatsoever. There's an animal hospital right down the street I'd suggest you go there as they will properly diagnose and examine your pet.

Dr. Matthew K handled the euthanasia so well. He was very compassionate and allowed me time to grieve, and in no way did I feel so rushed. It probably took me 2 hours to allow him to go to sleep (an hour past my booked time), and god knows how long after to leave. I called the clinic probably 15 times to "talk about making the decision," like a crazy person I'm sure, as it was so hard to make the choice to end his suffering. It seems, we all just want "more time." Point being, the staff members were so helpful and (again) compassionate, even after the appointments regarding Po's cremation. Before, and after (the loss) the staff were so warm! Prior to losing my boy, he went deaf due to a terrible ear infection. I saw 3 previous vets at different clinics, who all gauged me on prices, about $ 1000.00 on treatment. And his ears were still bad. Dr. Matthew's treatment actually restored his hearing (like a miracle) and the total cost was less than $ 100.00. I'll admit I've been a picky man with vets. I loved my dog so much and always wanted the best care. Either I had "one bad experience' with a vet or staff...ie 1 year after going there, where I had rude customer service experience....or ie I felt "taken on vet bills" with previous clinics (I have about 5 other negative reviews up on other vet clinics). Point being, Acadia was just amazing. The doctors knowledge, you can simply trust. They were the best clinic I saw in Vancouver. And, there prices were fantastic as well.

I took my cat in to see Dr. Herbert for treatment of a fractured pelvis (I accidentally stepped on…read moreher due to a blind spot in my right eye) followed by a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes. At first things went well. The receptionist at the front desk was very courteous and helpful. She frequently answered the phone. But then it seems I was handed over to another staff member, Rosey Liu, and that's when things took a turn for the worse. I'm writing this after a futile and exasperating phone call with Ms. Liu, whom I have never met, and who gave absolutely no credit to my disastrous experience with Dr. Cavanaugh, or even any indication that she was listening. Rosey seemed to take pleasure in calling into question or just ignoring me or deliberately misinterpreting just about everything I said. She was adversarial right from the start, and discredited everything I said, even the facts. I was trying to make that point that Dr. C DID NOT KNOW, and admitted that she did not know, that Noviran Ketone test strips were NOT a reliable method of detecting ketosis when inserted into moist or moist kitty litter - fresh urine is required. However, Ms. L. made no comment when I told her this - just silence. She did not accept responsibility for or even acknowledge that Dr. C. had made a mistake, probably because she did not know herself that the ketone strips stuck in cat litter are an unreliable indicator of ketosis. If she had known, she had every chance to say so. She was evasive on most points. She remonstrated me for sending "too many" emails (I sent two after a fruitless visit with Dr. C. - and made perhaps a few too many inconvenient, desperate phone calls after Abby's accident, and ideas that came to me in the middle of the night - which I had to send off before I forgot them) - but ideas for treatment of my cat were seen as an inconvenience to Rosey Liu There was not a shred of interest in the welfare and well-being of my cat. I don't think it was too much of a hardship for the staff to field a few inconvenient calls from a patient desperate for information. I also wanted to discuss my options about Dr. C. (handed over to me by Dr. Herbert, who apparently was too busy with more important things, the first vet to see her after the accident) was civil and polite throughout a very stressful "treatment" during which my cat was never once removed from her carrier or even superficially examined. When I mentioned Dr. C's reluctance to even touch my cat, again my comment was greeted by silence by Rosey Liu, and then, "Well, what do you want me to do?" Again, no acceptance or accountability, or even accountability. Just, "uh huh." And throwing it back at me. Originally I had come to the clinic to have a "Freestyle Libre 2" patch put on my cat to measure her blood glucose levels. But perhaps because of a premonition I had, or Dr. C's reluctance to handle my cat, she dissuaded me from having the patch put on. I didn't resist, because my cat was 10+ years, had sustained broken pelvic bones and a dislocated femur from the accident - and had already been sedated 2 or 3 times. But never, at any time, were there any cross words between the doctor and myself, or with the young woman at the front desk, Tracy, who is the polar opposite of Rosey Liu in terms of courtesy and interpersonal skills. But I always sensed something impersonal and "unfriendly" in Ms. Liu. I love my cat dearly and it breaks my heart that she came through a serious injury, only to be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. And yet, as the adversarial dialogue went along, there was no attempt on her part to help, only denial, evasion, blaming me for the inconvenience I caused them, and obstacles, and impediments. Just a wall of denial. No help of any kind, no sign of any kindness. I think Ms. Liu would be better off at a desk job, where she doesn't have to impose her passive-aggressive personality on the public. So now, after I have spent more than $1,000 on A at this clinic, I say GOOD RIDDANCE. I hope they enjoy the money they have made from A's suffering. They have certainly earned their ONE-STAR review.

My dog, Ginger, was 10 years old before his passing. He was the sweetest miniature poodle you could…read moreever know. He would jump on you whenever you came to visit, and people would be surprised when I tell them his age because he is just that joyful. He did not deserve to have his health in the hands of these deceitful, useless, vets (Dr Wong and Dr Biernacki) who should have their licenses taken away immediately. A week before Ginger's passing, we made a decision that we should have made years ago: to bring him to a better hospital. There they found a significant mass stretching from his diaphragm to his bladder, and he had an estimate of a few days to a week left. About a month before that, my parents brought Ginger to North Road for diarrhea, vomiting, and lack of appetite. There the only thing they did was give him Veraflox, an antibiotic for bacterial infection. When I told another vet about this she said she didn't know why this was prescribed to him. No recommendation for imaging was made at the time, which I now realize was insanely negligent as they KNEW he had cancer. I called Dr Biernacki about this but I had a lot of trouble understanding what he was saying. But the incompetence started even before that, back in May when my mom herself made an appointment with Dr Wong because she was concerned about his Cancer, Dr Wong flat out dismissed it. When I called him a week ago for an explanation he ACTUALLY had the audacity to lie about it, saying he "recommended CT scans" and that there was a "language barrier" issue with my Mom. How completely abhorrent could you be to say something so highly insulting? Saying her english got in the way of making a decision that would prolong her dogs life? Do you have ANY idea what Ginger means to me and my family? No effort to follow up was ever made. When I called Dr Wong for closure, whom I waited hours for to call me, referred to Ginger as "she" again after 1 MINUTE of correcting him. These people clearly put no value in their job, let alone care about your pets. To conclude this review, if you love your dogs in the slightest, get away from this place ASAP.
