If you are a little off beat and/or quirky or perhaps you just like that kind of humor - pick a show! Improv comedy, plays, talk shows and Nerd Nite billed as 'like a TED Talk but with beer" never disappoints. 3 short segments by 3 different performers on topics ranging from Godzilla to the history of Monopoly. Go. Although not every performance is a 5 - I've never been disappointed. Looking forwards to checking out a lot more this season and hoping to see more of my favorite host and performer, Shyaporn Theerakulstit! I almost forgot my other favorite - 'Story Collider'. "5 True, personal stories about science." Hosts Paula Croxson and Diana Li are the kind of Nerds that bring the shows to life in a fun and playful way! Oh, and the empanadas are really good!

We had a lot of fun at the Order of the Golden Scribe Sunday tea event. The cast/staff were great and the overall experience was very engaging and fun. They decorated the room like a secret society and every detail was carefully thought out. I would definitely return for another show or experience!

We stopped for a 7 PM show on a Thursday night--they do a lot of educational comedy--which was very informative and fairly entertaining, although drinking definitely helps. The intermission was filled by a very electric band (Pinc Louds) that had a great vibrant energy that fit in very well with the venue. Speaking of which, the venue took me a minute to find. There's a single almost nondescript door that leads down a set of stairs to a booth where they check/sell tickets. Then you walk into the main stage/audience area with a bar off to the side. The menu is not terribly extensive, mostly beer and wine and one specialty cocktail--called the Turing Test. I didn't see a food menu. I ordered the Turing Test, and the bartender wanted me that it's a lighter drink. It was but it was excellent and definitely made the rest of the show enjoyable. The show we watched was called Why Your Train is F*cked, it was about the MTA. The first half was sort of a ppt and the second was an interview segment. They have a show this Saturday called Planet Earth the drinking game: Shark Week Edition.

Caveat is a not-so-hidden gem in the city, specializing in talks and events for science, philosophy, technology, and all things geeky. It's also a bar. Basically your dream stomping grounds for your local alcoholic geek (and to that, I'm guilty). As far as I can tell, they host events most nights of the week. The tickets go for usually $10-20. Their beer selection is not bad (recommend the Radiant Pig IPA), but is definitely on the pricey side. Entrance is through a black door with the C logo on it. It's right next to the cocoa place, so look for that first if you are having trouble finding it!

I love this place. The shows are great, the drinks are good and affordable and the popcorn bar is amazing.

Holy shit - easiest 5 star ever. We went last month during our NYC trip and the show was amazing,…read moreevery comedian was on point, I cried laughing. It was a last minute decision to go so originally we got in the 9pm standby line for Fat Black Pussycat. Unfortunately we didn't make standby twice when we waited at 9pm and 11pm. Luckily, we were offered to go to the 11:45pm comedy cellar show instead. Yes please! So happy it worked out, especially on a busy Saturday night. It was the 2 of us & we shared a table with 2 other couples who were such a vibe to chat with. 2 drink minimum. The show started around midnight and ended around 1:30am. Definitely recommend to catch yourself a comedy show here! I'll be back next time I'm in NYC

Easy 5 stars. Been wanting to do this for a while, planned to come based on a few comedians that I…read morewanted to see. After watching the show, I recognized almost every comic (I watch a lot of stand up comedy on youtube). Every comic was solid, every comic was funny. Anyone I hadn't seen before, I looked up and watched on youtube after. Fun experience. Try to buy tickets in advance if you can, unless you are super flexible and are okay with being on the waiting list and maybe not getting in. We ended up in the standby line and luckily got in. Prices are reasonable. If you like standup comedy definitely come. You can look up the lineups on their website ahead of time. They do not guarantee that everyone listed will appear, but I guess they also sometimes have drop ins of special guest and really famous comics. Brennan was the big name of our show. Schultz was also supposed to be there, but was a no show. Everything is pretty organized and orderly. 2 drink min. but the drinks are reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended. I wanted to see Aaron Chen, but the timing didn't end up working out, but he was there the days I was in town.

First thing's first...remember to make a reservation. Thankfully going on a dead cold Monday we…read morewere able to get in without one and thoroughly enjoyed the entire night's showcase of comedians. Best part of the show was the host. He did a great job of warming things up to start and really connected well with the audience. Certainly be prepared to be called out for some good laughs as he pretty much had a great joke on everyone there. The comedians were from all over the country and from very different backgrounds of life. This place is great for any occasion at any time of the week with coworkers, couples, or big groups of friends. There was even one guy there who went alone (and was obviously was picked on by the host for that very reason). I will say the 2 drink minimum that everyone complains about isn't that bad. Typical price for NYC but certainly nothing special. Flavored margaritas (mango and blood orange) were a bit sugary. I would recommend sticking to something basic here. The only buzzkill was the random $10 service charge, which we didn't see noted anywhere like the 2 drink minimum notices everywhere but maybe we didn't looking hard enough. Nonetheless, we had a great time and will be back for more laughs!

Fun comedy night. You get to experience multiple comedian. I will definitely go again Try it you…read morewon't be disappointed
