Now this is what one pays NYC rent for! I had the privilege and pleasure of watching Natalie Palamides' one-woman show "Weer" on the final weekend of the show's run and was utterly blown away. I don't want to give too much about the play away because I know she will perform it elsewhere but if this is the sort of theater coming out of Cherry Lane, it's a harbinger of good things for the future. The theater itself is quite intimate, with only 16 rows or so. I was near the back and didn't feel like I had to squint to see the performance on stage. Whoever did the set design made very good use of the stage space such that the audience could feel transported into different "rooms" and time zones. Acoustics were pretty good too though I would occasionally miss a part of the dialogue over the sound of the cacophonous laughter in the audience. There is a bar in the front and you can bring drinks into the theater. I wish I could've also checked out Wild Cherry, the restaurant attached to the theater, but it's too poppin right now. Some of the best stars got their start at Cherry Lane and it's lovely that they're drawn to such a place a short subway ride from where I live. read more

I was excited to check out the Cherry Lane Theatre since they partnered with A24. The space is really adorable. I love that you can have a nice meal in the connected restaurant, Wild Cherry, and then pop out a few minutes before showtime and find your seats. The bar in the front is very chic and I love the attention to detail. A warning-- seats in row S on the stage are on barstools with a back. They are cushioned and somewhat comfortable for what they are, but sitting like that for nearly 2 hours is challenging and not necessarily comfortable. These are the cheapest seats and they'll still run you $65 each after fees. The next tier was something like $85-100. I completely understand supporting local theatre, but I generally won't even spend $100 on a Broadway show unless I'm dying to go, so the comfier seats weren't even an option for me, which was a bummer. You also cannot eat any of the snacks for purchase in the front during the show if you buy a seat on the stage. Overall, I was extremely impressed with "Shifters" and I hope that all of the plays that are put on here are this good! I'd love to come back. read more

Cherry Lane Theatre is New York City's oldest continuously running Off-Broadway theater. Located in the West Village, it has a storied history. Major American plays were put on at the theater - by writers including F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Dos Passos, Eugene O'Neill, W. H. Auden, Gertrude Stein, Samuel Beckett, Pablo Picasso, T. S. Elliot, Tennessee Williams, Lorraine Hansberry, Edward Albee, Sam Shepard, David Mamet... The film studio A24 bought the theater in 2023. After an extensive renovation, the theater reopened in the fall of 2025. I visited the theater last week for a performance of You Got Older. The play was great. The theater is small and intimate and was very comfortable. It felt more like an upscale movie theater than a theater (cupholder in the seat in front, comfortable spacing between the rows). My only complaints are small. I don't mind paying $20 for a glass of wine, but if I do, I'd prefer an actual pour. They're charging $20 for half glasses of wine in tiny plastic cups. It's natural wine, and I'm sure it's pricier than what other theaters are pouring. But $20 for that amount of wine almost made me laugh. Or cry. My other small complaint is that there's no lobby to speak of. When you walk in, there's nowhere to go - some people were standing in the concessions line, thinking it must be the line to scan your ticket. It's just tight. There's nothing they can do about that, since it's a small, historic theater. But the next time I attend a performance, I'll probably show up just a few minutes before - it'll save me money on a second thimble of wine, too. I really enjoyed my first performance at Cherry Lane Theatre. It has an incredible history and is now a plush, comfortable little Off-Broadway theater option. If their future theater productions are anything like You Got Older, I'll be back. read more

This is such a beautiful theatre. It's small and intimate. The staff is so nice and friendly. There really is no way of getting lost but in case you are, a staff member will find you and help you. The seating is so comfortable and the theatre itself is beautiful. The concession stand is great. I had a plastic wine tumbler of natural red wine. It was okay. The popcorn appeared burned but it tasted really good. The one woman show "Weer" was FANTASTIC. I highly recommend it. Overall, I'd come back here. read more

Cute little Off Broadway venue in a shady neighborhood area of Greenwich Village that is a few blocks from Christopher Street. Cherry Lane Theatre is New York's longest continually running Off Broadway theater. Despite going through different ownerships and some renovations, Cherry Lane Theatre has been running continuously for a hundred years. It holds less than 200 people. I like small theaters and have always enjoyed stopping by here for a show. read more

I always try to attend a show here when I'm in NYC. Last year it was a one man comedy show - awesome, on point, funny, and intimate. This year I just didn't connect with the show being offered when I was there. While I appreciate the new and unique, sometimes I wish they would do something like 'The Fifth of July' or 'The Children's Hour' - tell me a story the old fashioned seasoned playwright way - in the West Village. The most comfortable, well appointed Off-Broadway theater I've been to yet. The seats are downright palatial. The leg room was perfect for my 5'9" frame. And the rise is steep enough that unless you're really petite or the person in front of you insanely tall, the sight lines are perfect. But I was in Row C Seat 11. So close I could see the actors faces turn colors during emotional scenes. God bless whomever was wise enough to put up a poster warning about the loud noises and smoking in the production of Exit Strategy. So many people have so many issues and the heads up is welcome. Especially if you sit in the front. Because no matter how prepared I was for it, I jumped at the end of almost every act. Too many places don't even think to do it. ::side eye @ The Majestic & Phantom:: The box office is housed in an adjacent building. There's really no lobby to speak of in the theater itself. It's a quirky layout that speaks to the history of the buildings and the quaint quality of Greenwich Village, with its twisty side streets, one of which the Cherry Lane sits on. Despite the age of the buildings, the interiors are throughly modern. That's why the seats so dang roomy! The second best aspect of the location is how close you are to so many restaurants, cafes, and bars. I'm sure everyone can find something to their taste. Just fire up your Yelp app! This theater goes right on the top of my list just for the comfort alone. read more

I came here to watch Actually, We're F*****. The theater is cozy and small, but comfortable and I'm convinced there's not a bad seat in the house. The play itself was interesting; I would describe it as a drama with social issues touched upon in it. The actors and actresses were pretty good, and they have student rush tickets for the shows here! $22 total and they're sold an hour before curtain time. I love the little Cherry Lane Theatre--originally constructed as a farm silo, and at one point it was a box factory--which was also the theatrical home of Edna St. Vincent Millay and the Provincetown Players. I performed there--unpaid, natch--as part of the "Art of Drag" presentation during the Fresh Fruit Festival a few years back. Very small theater tucked in an alley - I definitely got lost on my way here. I came here for $9 tickets (thanks to Goldstar!) for Catch the Butcher. Being a black comedy about a woman who DELIBERATELY gets herself kidnapped by a serial killer, I really didn't know what to expect. Overall, I don't want to spoil anything, but the "humor" wasn't my cup of tea and a lot of the play was overdone at points. However, the acting was great and the staff (of the theater as well) was super helpful and kind. I'd definitely come back for another show. read more

Quaint theater hidden away in the west village. We saw Colin Quinn's "The New York Story" The theater is small and is perfect for viewing a one person show. I couldn't picture have more than 3 or 4 actors on stage without the set seeming to overflow. They have a nice bar area as well as a souvenir table. Getting in and out was a breeze. Be warned that they have limited restrooms. Close to 7th Ave and Hudson so transportation is ok but you will have to walk. You won't find many cabs driving by since it's on a small side street. read more

We caught a performance of the Playwrights Realm's "Dramatis Personae," which was just spectacular. Go see it if you get the chance. The theatre itself was clean, cozy, and welcoming. For a small black box space, they manage the space well and cram in enough seats for a good-sized audience. The sound and lighting were all well designed for the play. The staff was accommodating for us, and let us into the theatre a little early so my wife could rest her recently-operated-on knee. I went here last night to see "The Amish Project." Both the theater (or should I say, "theatre") and the play are highly recommended. The theatre was on one of the most charming streets in the West Village I have ever seen. Although it is a small theater, the decor is pretty and welcoming--exposed brick, and the seats are "stadium" seating with comfortable chairs. There were no problems with the sound system or any other technical issues that you may exepct form a small theater. "The Amish Project," as I said, was excellent, and I hear from a friend who patronizes this theatre often that they often have excellent shows. "Must go on" is a must-see for any queer millennial who wants to cathartically cry to an acapella version of retro classic "what is love" and hear other current and 90's songs in their proper and brilliant context of a man dancing in his bathroom changing outfits, stiletto pumps, and changing his mindset to be brave and make this show. He showed his artist's censor and took an actual risk to show us the breadth of his energy it took to make this show. I felt heartache, pain release, I laughed with my entire body. This 30 person space is the perfect setting to be as invested in a show and feel every emotion they put into making it. Thank you for creating this!! read more

I saw a show for the Fringe Festival here on Friday (Pulp Shakespeare). The staff was very friendly, they have A/C in their theater and comfortable as well as good seats. If you're doing a show, this is a great theater if you don't have a huge crowd and you'd like to make a good impression. I'll be remembering this for the future. read more

Saw a preview of "The Unseen" here this past weekend, and although I enjoyed the play, I feel more compelled to write a review of the theatre. What a gorgeous space! The exposed-brick-and-wood decor is both cozy and inviting, the stadium-style seats seem brand-new, and the sound and lighting systems worked flawlessly. Our seats were 4th row center, which were fantastic, but I don't think it's possible to have bad seats in such an intimate setting. My husband and I saw Jaqueline Novak "Get off your knees" here and LOVED IT!!! I am convinced there's not a bad seat in the house - but we had seats in the third row that were perfect. We could see everything and the acoustics are great. Jaqueline Novak is hilarious by the way, my husband and I laughed so hard throughout her entire show (FYI rated R, essentially talks about the awkwardness of blowjobs / her life story in relation to the blow job for the 90 minute set). Very Amy Schumer meets literary buff. Will definitely be back to check out more shows here! read more

I came here last week for a Yelp Elite event (thank you Ruggy!!!). They were showing "Women are Crazy because Men are A$$holes". The show was hilarious! My date and I really had a good time because no matter how outragous the characters we have either met those couples or have been on the receiving end of some serious "crazy" . The theater is a little hidden on this cosy street in the nicest part of the east village so please be thoughtful when walking around. Also awesome food choices around the area if you are looking for something romantic and intimate for pre or post activities. The theater is surprisingly spacious for such an unassuming establishment. I thought it would house no more than 70 ppl but iit was much more. The show itself was wild and surprising! The actors were wonderful and made you feel the actions. read more

What a perfect evening in the city...2+ hours of laughter at 'Nunsense' and outstanding food at 'Palma Restaurant'. Greenwich is my favorite NYC neighborhood. I'm certain if we lived here, we would be season ticket holders at this awesome little theater. If you're looking for bright lights, major productions, and big crowds this is not the theater for you...this is where the unpretentious regular theater-goers come for good quality off-Broadway productions. The actresses in 'Nunsense' were all very talented...and, darn funny. And, I appreciate that the play was written with heart. No angry Catholic bashing here...just good-natured fun.
