I typically avoid leaving negative reviews after just one visit, as I understand that any restaurant can have an off night. However, my experience at Caviar on Valentine's Day was disappointing enough that I feel compelled to share my thoughts. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was uncomfortable. The restaurant was extremely warm--the temperature app on my iPhone showed 80 degrees--and the noise level from the live music was overwhelming, making it difficult to have a conversation. Despite multiple requests to lower the volume, the issue was not addressed. Service was another major concern. While the restaurant wasn't particularly large and there seemed to be ample staff, the service was surprisingly slow and inattentive. When we were seated, our server presented only the prix-fixe Valentine's Day menu, stating that it was the only option for the night. We later discovered that the regular à la carte menu was actually available, which was frustrating given that our $400 meal felt like it was worth no more than $100. When I brought this up with the owner, Shauna Neely, she dismissively pointed out that they had mentioned the à la carte option on Instagram and in their newsletter. While that may have been the case, it was not communicated to us in person, which led to a disappointing dining experience. Her response lacked empathy, which further soured the evening. Additionally, an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill without prior disclosure on the menu we were given. To top it off, the restaurant only serves wine and champagne--no cocktails--which is worth noting for those expecting a more complete beverage selection. Overall, if you're looking for a restaurant that offers excellent food, great ambiance, attentive service, and a welcoming experience, Caviar is NOT the place to go. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Shawna, whose gracious hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable experience. The ambiance was instantly inviting, exuding a vibe that felt like home. Our server, Ryan, was impeccable with his food recommendations, guiding us through a culinary journey that exceeded our expectations. We began with a sparkling Riesling that was refreshingly crisp--like a summer breeze in a glass, perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. Then came "The Fluffy" (Honey Butter Biscuit)--an appetizer that redefined biscuits for us. It was everything a biscuit should be: a delicate balance of a golden crust encasing a warm, fluffy center, with a buttery sweetness from the honey that was simply divine. It was, without a doubt, the best biscuit we've ever had. For the main course, I chose the Shrimp and Grits, a dish that left me speechless. The shrimp were grilled to perfection, paired beautifully with andouille sausages and creamy grits. But the true star was the Creole sauce--a symphony of flavors that elevated the entire dish to something extraordinary. My wife opted for the Lobster & Crab Hash, which was equally sublime. The generous portions of lobster and crab atop a bed of soft, flavor-packed hash were simply to die for. Each bite was a luxurious blend of textures and tastes. My Husband and I recently visited for the prix fixe menu on Valentine's Day and unfortunately left disappointed. The salad was very dry with barely any dressing, and the portion felt minimal. The deviled egg course included just one egg, which was underwhelming. My husband ordered the steak, and it arrived cold. I had the lobster, which was rubbery and tough to cut. The only dessert we truly enjoyed was the lava cake. We understand the restaurant is BYOB, but it would have been helpful to at least offer a list of soft drinks or mocktails. There were no non-alcoholic beverage options presented or listed, which felt like a missed opportunity. On a positive note, the ambiance is beautiful. The décor is stunning, and the music selection was great just a bit too loud, as we could barely hear each other across the table. Coming from a family that owns a restaurant, we truly wanted to love this place and give it the benefit of the doubt. We know how much work goes into hospitality. However, for the price we paid, it did not meet expectations. We even spoke with four other couples who felt similarly disappointed. Afterward, we all ended up at Haven Restaurant for drinks, sharing our thoughts about the experience. I had an incredible brunch experience at Caviar in Edgewater! This Black-owned gem, which I discovered on Instagram, exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was blown away by the atmosphere, the vibe, and especially the music--the playlist was on point and really set the tone for a great time. The service was excellent, and the owner was extremely attentive and welcoming. As for the food? Absolutely delicious! I started with the oysters, which were incredibly fresh. We also ordered "The Fluffy"--a homemade biscuit drizzled in honey--and it was pure perfection. The shrimp and grits were rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My date had the turkey sausage and waffles, which he really enjoyed. Since it's BYO, I stopped at the liquor store for some Casamigos tequila, and the restaurant provided orange juice and grenadine so I could make a Tequila Sunrise, while my date enjoyed his tequila on the rocks. Such a great setup! Caviar is a must-visit spot, and I can't wait to return for dinner. I celebrated my birthday here, and this place is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, the staff made my party of eight feel so welcome. Shauna, the owner, personally greeted me and even left a thoughtful birthday card--a sweet touch that made the evening extra special. The table setup was beautiful and set the tone for an amazing night. The food was incredible! The seafood was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. My foodie husband couldn't stop raving about the lobster tails, comparing them to dining in Turks and Caicos. Jerk shrimp appetizer, Lamb surf and turf(gigantic lobster tail) were the best I have ever had of those items. Great ambience re lighting, music, and a beautiful open 2 story space.
