Wow!!! This is a hidden gem. Place is casual and small so don't expect anything fancy but the food quality is 10/10. Sometimes poke can taste fishy or just not fresh, but all the ingredients in my bowl were incredibly fresh. I believe it was the owner working when I grabbed take out and she was so kind and helpful. I was craving poke yesterday and found that this "Food for Life" does poke! After a rather disappointing recent experience at a poke shop in Fort Lee, I decided to give them a try and I was happy that I did! First, the name - I was wondering if this was a chain since I know one in Fort Lee, and a new one sprang up on 9W/Sylvan Ave. in Englewood Cliffs... and the lady told me they're all independently owned under same "theme/name." Ok, now that we got that out of the way... (asked nobody ever but still) THEY ARE BACK after closing for a month due to Coronavirus, now for a week. The owner lady told me people still think they're closed, so I wanna get the word out there to come SUPPORT your local business! PLACE - Bright and meticulously clean with well laid out menu items. Poke isn't on their circulated menu so took a picture with updated pricing. FOOD - I ordered Tuna poke and Spicy Salmon poke ($14 ea.) and I was not disappointed. There was a sushi chef on premise working with chunks of sashimi fish preparing orders. When I got home to eat, I noticed the fish was really fresh, with sensible usual poke toppings, and I love the fact that they actually use fresh chunks of salmon for their "Spicy Salmon" unlike many joints that cut corner by using the mashed up stuff with less fresh fish and fillers. They also veered towards light in terms of sriracha mayo and shoyu which preserved the taste just right, and I poured a bit of ponzu to suit my own taste. Portion was generous and came with a bowl of hot miso soup which was just perfect. Only minor feedback would be that rice was a bit blocky-cooler than I'd have liked so took wee bit more effort to eat together with the toppings... but not a big deal. With recent rise in delivery apps you might be tempted to (not even sure if they participate), but you know how they kill the restaurant's margin... So get off your butt and just go pick it up yourself... you need fresh air / groceries anyway right? :) Thank you for a delicious dinner and we'll be back. read more

Went for Daily Lunch Special Food - 4/5. Sushi rolls were compact and had beautiful color. The fish were fresh and I liked the slight gochujang flavor in the spicy mayo. However I thought the thin slices of cucumber was offsetting. The crunchy texture of the cucumbers were really prevalent and slightly overpowered the delicate fish flavors. It also felt like filler in the spicy tuna and a weaker alternative to avocado in the spicy salmon. Miso soup was soothing and mellow. Service - 4/5. Quick and friendly. Value - 3/5. The lunch special takes away 50 cents and adds a miso soup so its not the greatest of deals. At the price range of $12.50, I feel competing restaurants in the area would give at least three rolls. This place has some serious sushi. When I got married we ordered a huuuuuuge tray of sushi for my bridesmaids, wedding coordinators, and mom to nosh on while we got ready. Best decision ever. The sushi was UNBELIEVABLY FRESH with lots of variety. It was a great lunch because we could pick at it and get ready at the same time. Their standard rolls are all delicious, but their specialty rolls are OUTSTANDING! I especially love the Kamikaze roll (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and a sweet/spicy sauce). For those who can't handle the spice, their rainbow roll (salmon, tuna, shrimp, white tuna) is the best. My husband also likes to rave to me about how much he loves their smoothies. Pretty cool spot with a variety of food options (like a small scale NYC eatery). From sandwiches to sushi and even healthy shakes this place is trying to cover all the basics. They even got snacks and drinks too. All I wanted was a shake, but with a 10$ minimum I was forced into getting another item, I decided on a sandwich just to know if they where any good. Cold shakes and hot chicken sandwiches don't really mix all that well. But separated they would've tasted pretty damn good. The chicken sandwich was a pressed panini style. It had a good amount of chicken in it, lettuce was surprisingly enjoyable? (Honestly never thought I'd enjoy lettuce in a sandwich like this). The mustard they use was obviously cheap, but it was also kind of nostalgic and I really enjoyed it (a lot of people will not). The shake was also great, couldn't really taste it with the relish and mustard aftertaste of the sandwich, but even with that it was still good. Banana and vanilla protein power with whole milk, bland but can't go wrong with it. One shake and sandwich came out to 12$. For the quality and size, and speed of delivery, very reasonable price. Would come back when I need a really quick bite and don't care what I'm eating. Wouldn't make a trip for this place though. 4/5 because it's not a place I'll tell people to go try. read more

I was walking to my car this afternoon after getting a pedicure and trying to decide what to eat for lunch and stumbled upon this place. It is on the same block as my nail salon so I was surprised that I had never noticed it before. I was searching for something that wouldn't break my diet so I decided to go with the Mother Nature whole wheat wrap which includes portobello mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella, olive oil and spinach. I just scarfed half of it down a few minutes ago and am actually fighting with myself to not eat any more until dinner. Yes, it was that good. So juicy and tasty! I have been to Food For Life on 2 occasions. My first time there, I ordered a rainbow roll. It was freshly made but lacked the delicate flavors of a true sushi restaurant. I would not get sushi here again. On my second visit I decided to try a smoothie, which was also freshly made. The smoothie was a much better option.
