The ARTery (puns can be fun) may make most of its money from custom framing, but it is the art supplies that got my attention. If you're a painter in pretty much any of the main mediums, you'll find a rich selection of tubes and cans in a rainbow of colours here. There are stretched canvas' and even some wood panels, you have to special order those from Michael's. Run for the last 15 years by mother/daughter team of Bobbi and Zoe, The ARTery sits on a corner in an old style storefront in the vintage downtown area. Within its lath and plaster walls rest a large collection of coloured papers and drawing pads as well as lots of other art supplies and art-related knick-knacks. During my most recent visit, Zoe was giving a demonstration to one of her customers on how to use some liquid inks in alcohol. The mother/daughter team are happy to show you the technique necessary and even let you get your hands wet if need be. We are all artists and it's small art stores like The ARTery that bring it down to a local level, where it all starts. Take a short walk past the Carlton Hotel and browse the handmade card selection or maybe have a sit-down in the book section and flip thru The Big Book of Art. Highly recommended for all local artists and those of you that don't yet know you are artists.

It opened a bit later than the other stores, so spent a bit of time waiting at the shop across the street. The stop ended up being successful, with my wife picking up a tea cloth with Morro Bay embroidered on it. I enjoyed looking at the various coast art, many of which showed the iconic Morro Bay with the Rock behind it.

Owner was kind and gave great background on the art so it's very clear they care for what they are doing. Price point is also so reasonable even given the level of craftsmanship :) Will be back.

I've seen art vending machines all over social media but this is the first time seeing it in person…read moreout in the wild. Over 15 artists create mini art for people to enjoy. There is a short description and you purchase a token at the counter and vend the art out. We got the glass heart pendant and mini drawing on tile. Aside from the machine they offer prints on wood, metal or aluminum in 30 min which is a nice touch. I've also seen them do photo pop ups.

Darling little gift shop that just opened 3 weeks ago. She has another store in Cambria. They print…read morethe (super soft) shirts there so if they don't have your size, she can print it right on the spot for you. They have fun gifty items and the coolest part is that their business and name came from their photography business where they started recording people's love stories on video weddings. It's now become a full-blown website which you can check out. The phone booth in her store is going to be converted into an audio recorder so that she can get recordings of your Love Story on tape to add to the website. The Cambria store has the capacity for video recordings, apparently. The owner is super sweet too!

I go to Cambria every year. I always walk around the town. For some reason I don't think I've ever…read morebeen in this shop. I'm glad I found it this year and decided to go in. I've been wanting a sweatshirt that says Cambria on it. I found one that I liked but wasn't the right size. The gentleman at the front greeted me and told me if I needed anything to let him know and that he can also customize things. I asked him how long it took. He said right away. But then of course the size I wanted wasn't in stock. Go figure. He offered to order it and make it and then ship it to me. I asked what the turn around time was. He said he would have it out by Monday. It literally took him 3 or 4 days and he shipped it out Monday. It was so fast! I literally got it two days after that. I loved the way it came out. I also did ask for something and he said he can do it but it won't turn out the best. I was grateful for his honesty. Their customer service was top notch! I will definitely be back to visit next year and see what else I might find.

We were directed over to Mission Gallery from Ephraim Gallery, since we do like Arts and Crafts…read morework, and the owner said this had a similar sensibility We lucked into a gallery opening, featuring one of the printmakers from the gallery, who was giving a fascinating demonstration of her linoleum block prints. She chatted with the patrons during the lively demonstration, as she made the prints come to life. The wall behind her was filled with colorful interpretations of her view of the natural world. The display of the art is thoughtful, and work by the each artist is displayed together. There is also a variety of colorful scarves, tablecloths, and textile handbags available to brighten up any room. I also responded to the intensely colored prints and ceramics which graced the walls. The art glass animals shimmered in the afternoon light, inviting me to take one home, where it could become part of my menagerie. We will return to enjoy this display again!

Best shirt shop on the Embarcadero- best selection and best prices…read more We were able to get some souvenirs for friends and family who were expecting gifts when we returned home. Happy the they have extended sizes- they carry up to 5XL. Most of the selections for men went up to 3XL. No extra charges for using your credit card- purchase just needs to be at least $4 Same guy was working the 3x we popped in during our recent visit to MB- he was happy to let us try on various items and take photos to send home to friends and family to ask color and size questions. They even had new items that went out on the sales rack while we were here- made hubby very happy. He gleefully said it was going to make his fall wardrobe more exciting.
