A 2.8!!! Makes perfect sense. Yet Medicare rates it a 4 star. What a joke. My mom stayed here ans I can't count the times the floor was a ghost town. Zero visible employees anywhere. Do they have secret hiding places? [[HIGHLIGHT]]pressed button for help. Never came. Witness myself on many occasions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food cold and bland. Makn issue is lack of attention or care. Physical therapy missed countless days but written down as a denial which was a lie as i would be there for the day and NO ONE came to get her. Nice place as far as visually but nurses aren't even nurses but maybe a medical assistant at best and you can't even understand them. This review pertains solely to Level 4 Vista, where the memory care patients and assisted living patients are housed together. If I could give this facility no stars, I would. They have legitimately earned one star because the facility itself is lovely. New construction and spacious with big windows that let in a lot of light. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Regarding those in the administration, you will get along great with them if you drop your loved one off in a drive-by and never visit them again.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are so many things that are not up to par with this place that I am not quite sure where to begin. For starters, while the food is generally good, CCYoung feels it is necessary to serve cake as a dessert for both lunch and dinner, while serving sugary cereal as a first course for breakfast followed up with pancakes loaded with syrup. Whenever there is a special occasion, the residents are routinely given sweets such as cookies or popcorn with m&ms and marshmallows inside. This is fine on occasion, but it is too much with two meals of cake and the other sugar on the menu. My loved one gained so much weight during their time there. When I told the head nurse that I was worried about weight gain, she replied that it was "happy fat". Well, when I moved my loved one out of there and took them to the doctor, they were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. We weren't very happy about that "happy fat". Our loved one was also diagnosed with impetigo on their chin, something that had been there for months and could have been cleared up by a simple "eyes on the patient" diagnosis and topical antibiotic. My loved one was severely dehydrated as well. CC Young contracts with a physician who visits certain patients on the 4th floor. Except that I never once saw or heard of him visiting personally. He would always send his nurse practitioner to make the rounds. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked the floor nurses if I could be there for visits with the nurse, and I was told one time that the nurse would be there so that I could confer with her. Otherwise, I was never informed of scheduled visits, and I had no privy to my loved one's medical information except for what was relayed to me secondhand, verbally, by the floor nurse on duty[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. They decided to cut off my loved one's memory medication, and I was informed of this decision after the fact. If I had known that this would cause a rapid decline in my loved one's ability to communicate, to think, to walk, and to talk, I would never have agreed to it. However, I was never given courtesy of a one-on-one conversation with the doctor about this change. We needed to buy new clothes for weight gain and also to replace all of the nice outfits we brought in because they were either always getting lost, found in other rooms, or just ruined in the laundry. One good shirt had a huge hole in the front; shoes were found in other residents' rooms, and I routinely found other residents' clothing in my loved one's closet. The entire time my loved one was in the facility, calendars were hung in the hallways indicating planned activities for the day. Each day, there is an entry marked "time outside, weather permitting". My loved one was there for 2-1/2 years, and NOT ONCE did they take my relative outside. If you look closely at the patio on the fourth floor, you will notice bird droppings and that it is unswept and dusty, indications that it is NEVER used. There is a resident on the 4th floor who is in her right mind but utilizes the facility for assisted living. This woman is allowed to relentlessly bully the other patients who, having impaired memory, do not remember that she has laid claim to a certain chair that she thinks is hers. Administration routinely allows this and tells the people who work there to let her continue to bully the others so that she can have "her" chair, though everyone else should have equal access to that chair. The head nurse is not an R.N., and is very young and inexperienced. Her method of dealing with problems is to tell you that the problem will be fixed, that they "love" your loved one, but then to talk about you to the staff, and make sure in a passive aggressive manner that nothing is done to help your loved one. The more you advocate for your loved one, the bigger the problem you become to them, and the more neglect your loved one will experience. The nurses do not keep your information confidential. At one point, I learned that an estranged family member of mine had an hour-long conversation with the nurse on duty about the details of my loved one's care. I can't say this enough! Watch charges from the PS Salon carefully! There were several charges on my loved one's account for services not rendered, and when I pressed the issue, I was given a sizeable refund. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was also talked about among the staff as "causing trouble", simply because I spoke up when our funds were being stolen. We were refunded for 4 charges for services that were not rendered[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. read more

I am writing this review at the request of my mother, Joan, who has lived at CC Young for many years. She LOVES it there and tells me so every day. Although she is VERY happy with all aspects of where she lives (residence, food, activities, maintenance, technology help, classes, field trips) she wanted me to put up a review about a few special people who not only do their job with skill, but also caring and grace. A big high five to Daniela Mora in Conley restaurant. She knows everyone by name and greets all with a big smile - she seems to keep the restaurant running like a top (as least as far as residents can see!) and the food is always served hot and well-presented. Mom thinks she is the best she's the best Conley has every had! Dani is kind and patient and helps everyone! Second is Brandon in IT (I don't know his last name - sorry). Talk about a problem solver! No question is too hard or too simple. Brandon stays with a problem until he figures it out for you. Last is Kevin Nelson - the porter at the Point. Kevin magically makes every event, class, discussion group seem to be set up and taken down with just the right room arrangement in incredibly timely manner. It's amazing how many different "take downs and put ups" he does in one day. He is friendly and always speaks to everyone. He keeps everything clean and fresh - including the gym and class rooms. Mom thinks he's a gem. These are just a few of the amazing people who make CC Young work so well - In my mom's eyes, it's a great place to live and from the outside - I definitely agree! read more

We especially appreciate Nurse Krystal, Lem Lem, Tia, Janette, Christine at the front desk, and Clarice who helps with the apartment. I first learned about continuing care retirement communities as a teenager growing up outside Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Society of Friends built Kendal at Longwood, a life care community right by Longwood Botanical Gardens near Kennett Square, one of the great botanical gardens in the world. The idea that you could move into a facility where you could transition from independent living into what was then nursing care was new in the 1970s. But it seemed like a great idea. My mom had looked into moving to Kendal but never quite pulled the trigger. It took a diagnosis of Alzheimer's and a lot of "encouragement" to get her to "yes," just in time. Barely a month after moving into independent living, she transferred into what we now call assisted care. As my wife, Anna Beth, and I grew older, I continued to think about life plan settings. After we retired, we'd moved to a small town outside Austin, to a house we loved that Anna Beth considered our "forever" house. But that wasn't the way our lives went. A couple of years later, Anna Beth developed a medical condition that greatly affected her ability to walk. I started thinking much harder about places where we could transition from independent to assisted care. We probably looked at five or so in-and-around there - despite the fact that our search was constrained by the Covid pandemic, which limited our interest in moving at all. We did find some we thought were nice, but most had very expensive buy-in costs and two or three year waiting lists. That was too long. A consultant we hired suggested we look in Dallas, which was fine with us. Anna Beth had lived there happily in the 1980s and 90s. One of the places she directed us to was CC Young. She sent us floor plans and financial info, which our money people said looked fine. I called there soon after, on Anna Beth's birthday, and spent forty minutes on the phone with Sarah in sales. We drove up the next day. We spent three hours that afternoon with Spencer, trying to decide between two units on the fourth floor. Both were nice, but we finally made a decision. Back in Spencer's office we looked at him and asked "Where do we sign?" We had tours scheduled elsewhere but we knew we were done. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We moved here in early, May, 2022, and started settling in. Anna Beth had a harder time than I did, but our neighbors were very welcoming, the staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and we liked our apartment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And little by little we discovered we'd made an excellent choice. The grounds were beautiful, the plantings so lush I thought they were artificial. There were far too many activities to keep up, and the medical care we received was mind boggling. We of course needed new physicians, so we got set up with Syed Hassan at the on-campus clinic. As I was a new patient, Syed naturally ordered blood work. The next day, as we're finishing breakfast, the doorbell rings. It's the phlebotomist, come to draw my blood! Two weeks later, we're having a glass of wine around 4 p.m. and the doorbell rings again. It's Syed with my blood work! That's a small indication of what "life care" really means. We haven't been alone in that experience. I had done nearly all the cooking before we moved and expected to continue. Nope. The noon meal we eat is almost always great and there are nearly always leftovers to have for dinner. I'm not sure how many retirement communities have a wood shop - maybe some - but we definitely do. When we needed a shoe rack, we commissioned one from our friend Fred, one of the chief "Woodies." He's since made several beautiful pieces for us, including some we've sent as gifts. I'm also not sure how many have a greenhouse, but our neighbor, Judy, a Master Gardener, donated one to our campus. In it she grows beautiful orchids year-round. We also have a raised bed vegetable garden, where residents grow fruit and veggies for the kitchen at Umpress Terrace, a lower income branch of CC Young. CC Young features a Benevolence Fund, which beyond helping support Umpress Terrace, means a resident whose funding runs out can continue to live here. We don't turn people away over money. That's not us. And I'm not sure how many life care community presidents give a "state of the campus" address, explaining current issues, overall financial health, and future developments. Our does at least twice a year. There is too much to mention, but one final point is that you don't have to live here to enjoy many of our goings-on. DFW residents can join what we call The Point, and take part in life-long learning classes taught by faculty from the University of North Texas, attend concerts and events, or come by for our Thursday Happy Hour. Are there other great retirement communities out there? Of course. Is CC Young the best? For some yes, probably not for everyone. But it should definitely be on your look-into list. It would be hard to go wrong. read more

In early December of 2008 a law was in acted that all hospice patients could be involved in their care. They were not to be picked on or made fun of or anything derogatory. I made a complaint about a nurse Grace Ann to Grace Ann. She apologized profusely to me, blaming her negative responses to me on her children? However she was in my home during two of them, asked me why I hadn't shaved or folded my clothes that were on my king bed, not bothering her from sitting on a couch. She was 30 minutes late, didn't say sorry. So when I refused to use their doctor which is my right, they immediately questioned my medications, they had filled a week and a half before. The Director Jennifer Is probably one of the most unprofessional people I have ever met. I had left her several messages and she refused to answer her phone sent them to voicemail. She called back with the nurse and questioned the medications my doctor was prescribing. I told her it would be best for her to take it up with my doctors but she refused. She kept hitting me with questions and I kept deflecting. Because I am the one on Hospice and I will put my two female doctors credentials up against hers or her Dr. Goodwin. (Male) Anytime. Females tend to have more compassion than men in the medical world from my experience. And my two doctors are clearly more knowledgeable about me than their Dr. Goodwin who refuses to talk to his patients. The place is very racist in my opinion. Which I discussed but they didn't understand? All the African Americans were sent to do the cleaning services and no other race was considered for that job. Seems disgusting and unfair. I refused to have one of their "clean up aids" however my nurse was truly African accent and all. Jennifer Broadway you are a horrible person to fire from hospice when your assistant has the same disease I do, mine is just end stage. My mother has gone 24 hours without food water and medicine. They had 1 nurse for entire floor. Bed was bare and dirty sheets on floor and sink. Had to empty trash and take her to restroom myself. She needs assistance eating and unless we're there she doesn't eat read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]First of all, every staff member from nurses to therapists to doctors were above and beyond: friendly, helpful, compassionate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They just weren't around enough or when we needed them![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm not sure how my 90-yr-old dad fell through the cracks. He was there for 3 weeks with 3 fractures in his spine. He was in terrible pain that could not be managed. He was in so much pain that he couldn't eat, couldn't feed himself and there was no one to help him. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The many times I visited, I was unsure who to ask for help.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He was told not to use the bathroom by himself because of a fall risk. He pressed the call button and 25 minutes later someone showed up to help. In retrospect, he really needed 24/7 nursing care; not rehab. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I know from reading the reviews that someone will respond with, "Oh dear, we did not know, if only you had told us, we pride ourselves on our care, blah blah blah." We tried, but who to talk to? There was no contact person.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He literally fell through the cracks. Finally was taken to the hospital and given appropriate pain medication. Now we start the whole process over again and NOT at CCYoung. read more

My wife who suffered a cognitive difficulty broke her hip that developed complications. She was eventually transferred to CC Young. Either I, or one of my two adult children attended her every day she was there. We found the professional staff was generally competent. There were , of course, some aides who were less caring than others and there were also medical professionals who were more caring than others. The weekend nurse, Ms. Mary Weise, CVN, waste of those who showed more care. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring. Her professionalism and honesty were refreshing with no attempt to obfuscate. Also noteworthy, was a young aide, Ms Tia Fields, CNA, who while young showed a level of competence, compassion and skill that exceeded that of older and more experienced aides, but without doubt the most exceptional care giver was Ms Sherry Whitney, CNA, whose level of care, compassion and skill exceeded every medical care giver on staff. Although my wife suffered, her change in demeanor when Ms. Whitney was her aide was apparent. Engaging her in humorous exchanges, it was the only opportunity we got to see our wife and mother laugh. If we were to pick one care giver for our loved one, it would be Ms. Sherry Whitney. read more

During the pandemic period, staff neglected my father where he was found to be living in his own feces. They deprived him from food and medication management. This was due to him utilizing a provision in his contract which upset the CEO who personally lead actions to evict my father and sue him. I'm the end, CC Young owes my father several thousands of dollars that they seem to be unable to pay. read more

My mother came to CC Young from the hospital to their short term rehab floor May 18 until May 26, 2022. We picked this facility with high hopes, intending for her to move to their long term nursing floor after rehab. It was the second most expensive option, but seemed like the best. I wish I could report a better experience; we moved her to a different facility. CC Young is luxurious, feels like a high end hotel. There were a couple of very nice staff members. Unfortunately, that's about the only good things I can report. From the moment we got there, we encountered a culture of apathy and horrible communication. Some examples: - The admission itself was cold and impersonal. The room was not ready when we got there; the ambulance people checked her in, and we waited. No welcome, nothing. Over an hour before the admissions nurse came in. No food set aside for mom as promised - Mom was a full code for the first couple of days, even though a DNR was provided on admission. - Bathroom door was broken; this bothered mom, so made 3 requests for maintenance during our week there, still broken on discharge. - The big thing was that there was no communication: no "hey, any tips on how to get your mom to participate in therapy", no "do you have any questions, here's what to expect." Nothing. Tried several times to reach social worker who only called me back when Medicare sent them a notice that benefits would end because mom was not participating in therapy. - It seemed that staff interacted minimally. On one visit, when I asked about the catheter she arrived with from the hospital, the nurse told me it had been removed. When I went into the room, I saw that the catheter was still in and the bag almost full. If the nurse had been in the room and interacted with my mother, how could she think that her catheter was removed? Two days before discharge, a nurse told me that they would have to remove the catheter because they did not have an order for one. Then why was it left in for a week? - A psychiatric consult was ordered (not a bad idea, but seems like something to communicate to the family). A consult with hospice was ordered (ditto). - I sent this list of concerns to the patient advocate and the administrators after discharge. Crickets. I appreciated thoughtful reviews when I was searching, and I hope this helps. Maybe CC Young's other programs are good, but if you are looking for compassion and communication in a nursing or rehab program, all I can tell you is that's not what we found. read more

The lady short brown hair doesn't like black people . She's very rude and purposely didn't want to help me due to my color. They stated nothing can be dropped off in office no deliveries of any kind. The other lady with the short blonde hair was actually helpful and actually try to assist me with my delivery. There was a white guy that came in before me with a delivery in the brown haired older lady let him leave his delivery at the office no questions asked but gave me such a hard time. Facility is beautiful, therapy and social work departments were helpful. Nurses required close supervision to make sure my parent was adequately clean. My parent ended up leaving with skin breakdown which is unacceptable to me. Many excuses and not a lot of getting the job done. read more

I toured approximately 15 senior living homes in the Dallas area. CC Young is the BEST! My parents moved into The Thomas building (independent living) about 2 months ago and we definitely made the right choice! Mom wanted a full kitchen and washer dryer in her apartment. Most places have a sink and small refrigerator, but that's all. CC Young has full size refrigerators, dish washers, ovens and W/D connections. This makes my parents happy even though they do minimal cooking. The food at CC Young is seriously delicious! I'm a food snob and everything I've had there has exceeded my expectations. I especially love their chicken salad. They have several restaurants to choose from, wide selection of entrees and a generous meal plan. They even have a little grocery store where residents can buy milk, bread, ice cream, snacks, etc. My parents eat at the restaurant sometimes, but mostly like to pick up food to go and take it back to their apartment to eat. Dad calls the order in and it is ready for pick up 15 minutes later. Last but not least, the employees are really friendly and welcoming. They are super responsive to my parents requests(which has be a lot with getting settled in) and everyone you come in contact with smiles and says hello. This place is also dog friendly and they have a cute little fenced in dog park. read more

I would give negatives stars if I could. Do not send your elderly relative to CC Young Rehabilitation! My mother, in her mid 90s, was sent there for Rehabilitation after surgery from a fall. At first, they did well with her and she was walking 90 feet but then she got sick and didn't want to do her therapy after she recovered. She was tired and weak as they had not continued therapy while she was in bed, as the last place had a couple years before this. I told them over and over again to have the therapist call me when they came to her and I could get her to get up and do her therapy but they only called one time when they came to do her therapy out of two months. And she kept getting sick there. At one point she had to have a blood transfusion (we never found out why) and had to be sent out to a hospital. This was during Covid lockdowns and we could not see her in person. We had a camera in her room but it wasn't two-way; only we could see her. I finally told them I was bringing her home with me. I innately knew she would die if she stayed there. She kept getting worse and worse. They did NOT tell me she hadn't eaten anything or had anything to drink for two days before I said I was bringing her home! She'd given up! She would have died there due to neglect! When she got home she was a complete invalid for the first time in her life! She had been walking very well when she got to them originally! Although bedridden now due to extreme weakness because they failed in their therapy due to their lack of care, she thrived emotionally and began eating very well and was happy. The fact that she was bedridden caused other health problems, however, and she passed away four months later. I believe she'd still be alive today, walking, and doing well if they hadn't let her deteriorate so badly at CC Young. If it hadn't been Covid lockdown, we could have been with her, and we'd have been able to encourage her and get her up for therapy. Being there in person, we would not have allowed this deterioration. They just didn't care. Be forewarned! They should be closed down! read more

My mother moved to CC Young from out of state about 3 months ago. It was a huge effort to make the move, of course, but the staff at CCYoung were each incredibly organized, helpful and considerate in anticipating ways to make everything as smooth as possible. On the very first day of her arrival, an "ambassador," a volunteer resident, visited Mother with a small welcome gift and the promise of having a friend on hand to answer questions and help figure out her new living space. High marks to CCYoung for making the transition to a new chapter of life as comfortable as possible. In addition to an hospitable welcome upon arrival, all of the needed paperwork and financial arrangements were handled without any difficulties in advance of her arrival. Since moving to Assisted Living, Mother has temporarily needed more care due to some medical issues. The doctor and staff were thorough in their efforts to be sure she received the right level of care. She was moved to the Skilled Nursing unit in Lawther to receive frequent physical therapy and nursing attention. Although this unit is older and not fancy, it is immaculate and the staff is excellent. The small dining room is friendly and intimate. Mother has received exactly the level of care and attention we had hoped for when placing her at CC Young. The other day I asked her if she had a favorite caregiver in Lawther. She responded with "Oh no. They are all wonderful!" Her recovery in Skilled Nursing will soon make it possible to return to Independent Living. The seamless and professional approach to meeting her changing needs is a joy to work with for her family. read more

You know I'm really trying to see when I saw a bunch of reviews these people are really telling the truth I had just started there and Miss Griffin the director had a very nasty attitude when I walked up in the building I did call somebody the day before I had to go to take care of my state license because they needed them in order to pay me more but I said I'm not going to worry about it when I walked in there on Friday she had an attitude her name is Miss Griffin she's the director and she had a nasty attitude so I just walked out the building I'm really seeing what these reviews are really about is true about that facility that's not of God read more

Stay away from the rehab section. The Therapists were not CC Young employees and were great but the care CC Young gave my mother was terrible. They drugged her then wondered why she wouldn't cooperate with therapy. They put her in a wheel chair and parked her all alone every day by the lobby until she developed a stage 3 bed sore. They didn't help her eat or drink so she became malnourished and dehydrated. They refused to assist her to the rest room (she needed assistance because they had her sedated) and expected her urinate and empty her bowels in her pants. This contributed to the bed sore and caused a fecal impaction. I could go on but you get the idea. read more

TERRIBLE!!! I kept track of when my grandfather's medicine should run out and it constantly ran out prior to when it should have. They failed to turn in forms necessary for him to receive veterans benefits! And they failed to mention that when they kicked my grandmother of medicare we were allowed a repeal! We paid them to take care of my grandparents and we were hassled every day with phone calls (and by every day, I do mean every day) with what they failed to mention one of my grandparents needed! The nurses fail to read their patients charts and continued to call asking if we wanted a particular thing meaning we had to explain to them 3 times that no we did not want that. The staff and the administration are useless and it is not worth the trouble to send your loved ones here! read more

CCY is also a great steward to our community, hosting events for the community at large. Many Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce events are held at the Point at CC Young, as is MEET! Low pay for cnas with high expectations from Don,patient family members,and nurses. Lead CNAs do pointing and barely help. Actual cnas...get ready to destroy your back with large and small patients. After going to school to be a cna with increased food,rent,gas,etc you get 12.50....barely can survive. Take extra shifts destroy your back faster. I've seen where CNAs are starving due to not affording food. Yet we serve food daily. Recommends going to school. Less CNAs take CNA work places like these are forced to pay a liveable wage for all we do. read more

The skilled nursing and long term care in the Lawther West building is a detestable nightmare. My Mother had 3 falls during the first 2 weeks of arriving on the 3rd floor. This facility is short staffed and staff, doctors, and leadership are underqualified. They have no compassion, customer service, or professionalism towards the patients and their needs or family concerns. We are grateful for the selective caregivers and our availability to be present everyday. For this is how we confirmed all the wrong doing, incorrect medications, etc. This was not mere observations, but our terrible reality that we wish on no one else. We thankfully by God's sovereign mercy were able to move my Mother. We learned that your loved one is better off at a Residential Home Care or with trusted caregivers at home. read more

Got a call for my mother telling me she needed a antibiotic, the antibiotic was for an STD!!!! As it turned out, they had not tested her for the STD, let alone what exactly was causing her situation. So they either gave my mother an STD or are trying to pull the wool over my eyes to get medicine for her to use for themselves or someone else! This is associated with the Methodist church and the Church should really be ashamed of being associated with such vile creatures! read more

Definitely would not recommend to Anyone!! If we had not used C C Young, I believe my Dad would still be alive. I wish I would have known more about hospice, there are quite a few out there. I would have switched. Nurses normal response time was 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Doctor's response to a nurse calling was almost an entire day. Wrong medicine sent, and given to my Dad. When my Dad had a bowel problem, his nurse told him don't worry multiple times. It is what led to his death. read more
