The facilities are great. The residents rooms and bathrooms are private and spacious with high quality buildouts. The food is good. I've noticed generally high quality, tasty food getting served. The staff means well. I don't doubt the sincerity of the staff wanting to help improve the quality of life of the residents whether that mean providing activities in the common areas, get them medical care when needed, speak to them encouragingly when they need to be re-guided. The issues I ran into require a little bit of context. My father is averse to getting help on showers. The PVN nurse suggested we look into getting some meds to help on shower days and get some external extra help to provide showers for him. While I wasn't happy to pay for extra help, given the high cost of PVN I thought the request was presented in a professional manner. The issues come in with a lack of professional approach to medical management and follow-up. I consider these issues significant enough to ding PVN down to 2 stars. My father's doctor agreed that some medicines could help make shower days a little easier and that it was important for him to stay clean on a regular basis. The problem is that now, despite this being the PVN staff's idea, they are unable to get the medicines to my dad on the morning's of the shower days. They have missed this 3 out of the last 4 shower days, which then makes the task of giving showers a monumental task. It would seem that this would be easy to address given that they claim to give him his other medicines, but the one medicine that was introduced - effectively at their request - is something they seem unable or unwilling to give him. I have called numerous times and can get an answer about 50% of the time. I have sent 4 emails on this topic to the Head Nurse & her assistant and have a 0% response rate thus far. In my mind this boils down to poor leadership. I have no way of communicating with the senior leaders of PVN to get these issues addressed. The nurses ignore my emails, and worse, deny my father the access to medicines that will improve his and his fellow residents quality of life. it is my belief that PVN needs to fundamentally transform the culture and leadership of their organization. They are currently falling far short of their mission.

They started out in IL (independent living) and 3 years ago we lost Dad and Mom moved into DL (dependent living). All buildings are connected so Mom gets to see old friends at Sunday Brunch. (She is 93 now.) She has made many new friends in the DL building who are charming and so nice to her. I'm writing this because over the last 5-6 months I've been joining Mom for Happy Hour and have gotten to know her friends. I can't tell you how many stories I hear them share about other facilities in Dallas (Austin and Houston too) about how bad the food is and how they themselves (or friends) are ignored and not cared for. They told be several times that when they tell people how awesome everything is at The Forum... their friends don't believe it!! LOL, LOL. Well... it's true! Yes, I confess I take Mom to Sunday Brunch so I can get one of the best omelets in Dallas (in the IL building) and the rest of the food is so nice. My sisters take guests and we always celebrate birthdays and holidays at Sunday Brunch. Enough about that. Let's get to the brass tacks. The staff is probably the best I've ever encountered. If I'm with Mon and she has an ache and needs some Tylenol, I call the front desk and the nurse brings it to her within 15 min or so. VERY RESPONSIVE!! (Abbey is so awesome!) Mom has a Help Watch on her arm and can press the button and help comes immediately. As well, the staff will call me with every incident (like sliding out of her chair, etc.) Major or minor - they update the family immediately. AWESOME! Ok. So you are looking for a place for your parents. Absolutely check out The Forum. Have frank and direct conversations with the staff who show you around (and see if you can pay to sample the Sunday Buffet!!) Our family has so much peace knowing even the cleaning people care about a quality job and if they observe anything that needs attention - they alert the right people. I personally feel indebted to The Forum. THANK YOU ALL FOR TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF MY MOM!!!!!!

Since that time the facility changed management & became The Preston of the Park Cities. My mother has been a resident since the place first opened as Harbor Chase. The place is gorgeous and they are far more creative with their food and menus than any other place we initially looked at. Although there has been turnover in staff over the years, the best key players on staff stayed & have become real assets to the place. When Covid hit we were tremendously concerned about how this would be dealt with and how the residents would be protected. Watermark, who is the management company have done a phenomenal job handling the pandemic and keeping residents safe and their families well informed. I don't usually write reviews, but the outstanding care and kindness I received from everyone on the staff deserve to be recognized. From the day I arrived, every single person treated me with compassion, respect, and genuine concern for my well-being. During my entire stay, I never encountered a single employee with a bad attitude. That alone says a great deal about the culture of this facility. There is a physician and a nurse practitioner who do rounds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Both of them were never in a rush to listen to my concerns and issues with my recovery- and I had quite a few in the beginning. They even came to the PT area to make sure nobody was left out. That was truly amazing to me! The nursing staff provided excellent care and always made me feel safe and well looked after. Whenever I rang the bell in the painful stages of my recovery, someone showed up in a very timely fashion. Whenever they didn't, I knew it was because they were busy taking care of someone else, not because they didn't care. The physical therapy team was encouraging, knowledgeable, and truly invested in helping me recover and regain my strength. The housekeeping staff kept my private room spotless and comfortable, making it feel like a home rather than a medical facility. The kitchen staff went above and beyond to make sure I had meals I enjoyed. They were always accommodating and often prepared something extra when I needed it. It was clear that they genuinely cared about making my stay as pleasant as possible. I was also impressed by the administration and leadership. Whenever I needed something, they did everything they could to make it happen. Whether it was a special request or simply making sure I was comfortable, they always responded with kindness and professionalism. What stands out most about The Villages of Lake Highlands is the people. Every department--from administration and nursing to therapy, housekeeping, dietary services, and everyone working behind the scenes--works together with one goal: providing the best possible care for their residents. Their compassion, patience, and genuine love for the people they serve are evident every single day. Recovering away from home can be difficult, but the staff made me feel cared for, respected, and valued throughout my entire stay. They consistently went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. I am deeply grateful to everyone at Villages of Highland Park for their dedication, kindness, and exceptional care. I would wholeheartedly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place where residents are treated with dignity, compassion, and genuine concern. As long as you don't need assistance, you would be happy there. My mother was given a call button on a wrist band. From the beginning, it never worked. They would tell her it was fine, If one of us talked to them about it, they always said the battery must be low. They moved her upstairs to memory care. At times there could be a room full of residents with not one care partner in the room and the TV blaring. After my mother was in a wheelchair, I was visiting and she said she needed to use the restroom. It took me a while to find someone to help her, when I did, she said she wasn't her CP (Care Partner) I asked who it was, where they were and was told she was on break. I continued to tell her my Mother needed to use the restroom and she finally said she'd do it. She walked up to my Mother and said, well, she's got a diaper on, and told her to just go in her diaper. When she would ask to go to her room after lunch, they wouldn't let her. They kept her door locked, they kept everyone's doors locked because it was easier for them. When I asked why she could not go to her room, they said because they couldn't get her out. My Gosh, she was in a wheelchair, they could just roll her out. There was one particular CP that when she would get my Mother ready for bed. I could hear my Mother screaming. Only with this lady. I spoke to someone in the office to request she not be assigned to my Mother. My mother told me that she pinched her and had the marks on her arms to show. She also said she would punch her in the stomach. The manager said she would take care of it. Next time I was in town, she was still her PC. For a period of time, my Mother was having falls early in the morning. When my sister spoke to someone to see why this was happening, they told her it was because they got her up at 5am and she was left alone because it was around the time the staff changed. My sister asked why they would get her up at 5 and was told that the family requested it. We asked that they not wake her up before 8, and not to worry about breakfast, we would rather let her sleep. She was never an early riser and never wanted to eat first thing.

Terminal hold, phone systems down, etc. I asked the receptionist for the direct number to the memory care floor, but was told all calls have to go through the receptionist. Translation "We won't give you that number". My sister-in-law put a video camera in her mom's room so she knows when her mom has fallen and needs staff assistance. The 3 times she needed help, we could not get through to anyone to let them know.
