We went to the Smokehouse on the recommendation of a salesperson at the RV place in town. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Now, I love fried chicken, fried catfish, fried okra, etc., but I like it done well. I like seasoning and crispyness. All of this was lacking in our meals. My husband and I ordered the fried catfish with the broccoli, rice and cheese side and green beans. The catfish was barely fried, but more like dipped in oil and put on a try. The broccoli, rice and cheese casserole was a thick mush and extremely salty, and the green beans had all nutrition cooked right out of them. Maybe there are other items on the menu that would taste better? I'm always open to trying again. It's jus that this time it didn't work out. read more

You'll walk into this place and say "seriously, who sent me to a convenience store fast food place". Then you'll start eating the steak (or filet) and you'll know you're having one of the best! We love the food here but they have a real problem with the stuff they clean the tables with... it is so strong and the waitresses spray and spray this obnoxious stuff that it is hard to eat the meal you ordered when it arrives. Order two chicken fried steak sandwiches with onion rings with my sister in laws from Nacogdoches they ordered the same thing. I bought for my husband and I, while trying to eat the sandwiches the meat was so tuff you could not pull it apart, it was horrible. I spent 23.00 it was not worth a dime. Cole slaw was dry, (loaded) baked potato was barely loaded. The sheet they put under my steak got really moist, and started to get in my steak. (They don't use plates) Customer service was great,,, I will come back again because I like it that much... I hope to update my review with better stars. This place is the real deal. Nice cleanly building with a hometown vibe. Friendly service and an awesome atmosphere. I had the two meat plate with sliced brisket and sausage. The brisket was great, although it may not be the best I've ever had. It was moist and tender but lacked a little on the flavor. The sausage was good. The bbq sauce was very tasty. The two excellent sides that I chose were coleslaw and fried zucchini. The coleslaw was creamy and tasted great. The zucchini was excellent and really hit the spot. I came here because of great yelp reviews, plus a friend recommended it. The ordering is a bit odd for a sit down restaurant. There are 2 different counters to order your food, pay at, then sit down and wait for your name to be called. Most people were ordering from the grill line where you can order sandwiches, burgers and their famous steaks. I wanted to try as much as I could to experience this restaurant first hand. The left line served bbq only. I ordered a 10 oz ribeye, with fried okra. Also stepped into the bbq line to get a sausage link and 1/2 lb of brisket. Sausage is available in regular or jalapeño. After asking for sliced brisket from the fatty end, the employee just looked at me and said all brisket were the same. Even though the bbq was supposedly pit smoked, the brisket appeared to be all trimmed. When the food came out, the brisket was marbled and tender, but dry, not juicy by any means. The sausage was much better tasting, but the temperature of the bbq was the main problem here....nearly room temperature. Fried okra was just ok, hard to mess up fried okra anyway. The ribeye was cooked as requested, came out nice and hot, but it was just seasoned with a bit too much salt. It was the best food on the table though. Probably won't be back anytime soon. read more

A locals perspective: The burgers here are excellent! If you're passing buy and burgers will do, this is your spot! Their BBQ is wonderful if it's fresh, being a small town, it's hard to know what your demand for the day is so it can be hit or miss. They have tater tots if you aren't a fries fan. We stopped by to try the BBQ. I was very disappointed the brisket was undercooked. It was chewy with no smoke flavor at all when I told them they only offered an apology I did not eat it because it was like chewing gum. The ribs were below any average Texas BBQ ESTABLISHMENT. This steakhouse was amazing. The food was delicious and well worth the little bit of wait (10min for 6 plates). "The Cowboy" is a great choice. As far as food goes there's not an option you can go wrong with. I did feel that a few of the staff members were a bit rude but you can't really control others emotions. This place is good. I usually get the Cowboy steak. The food is always on point. My only issues are they nickel and dime you for anything extra and a $10.99 steak ends up being $17.00. Also they don't give you a itemized receipt and I always feel like the bill is more than it should be. Other than those issues, I still go there once a month. read more
