It pains me to have to write this review, but I had a very bad experience buying a record player here. After spending more than $350 on a refurbished player, the cartridge was broken and the attempts to try to rectify this took way too much time, energy and money, on my part. It took almost 2 months for them to replace the cartridge (after lots of emails & calls from me), and they made me pay for shipping of the cartridge. This replacement cartridge also does not work, and the saga continues. The record player isn't functional without a working cartridge -- it's like buying a computer without working hardware. The initial buying process itself was also not easy -- as I was told to contact their business partners about where certain parts were in the store, etc. It took me about 4 trips out (and I live in DC without a car) -- every time I came, they did not have the original cartridge or couldn't find it. I'm not sure who management is, as I was told, when asked, that there wasn't any management. I was very disappointed -- and I was very excited to find this place. I have not been offered an apology or anything to make up for this lost time and additional costs. I would advise not to buy a record player here, or make a big purchase. read more

This is the CD Cellar mothership - the actual cellar of ceedees that now includes a room of vinyl. My impressions of the Arlington location (for vinyl) also apply to this location, but I think that Arlington has a better vinyl selection. Worth a stop if you are on a DC vinyl roadtrip (relatively speaking). Stated otherwise, DC is generally not a good place for retail vinyl record stores, but in the land of the blind......CD Cellar is worth a visit. read more

Good selection of vinyl. I went there this pas weekend and found a "treasure" for $5 - a nice DG record with Horowitz conducting Mozart piano concerto. Also got a DG of Karajan conducting Tchaikovsky 1812 overture this one wasn't in as good condition as the first one, but still a nice pick for $5 bucks. Will be returning soon! read more

I went to CD Cellar for the first time today, I haven't been so impressed by any store for a while, but dang CD Cellar impressed me the minute I walked in! A solid collection of music awaits you as you walk down the old creaky stairs, and you arrived to thousands and thousands of CDs and records and some guy looking through the clearance section! The prices are decent I say range from $3.99-7.99 some can be higher $9.99-14.99 I'm mostly talking about the CDs though. Great selection too, I'm into rap and I'm surprised with what they had, it wasn't a huge collection but enough to make me happy. They also had DVDS and a clearance selection too. Great place to find both domestic and import CDs- New and Used. Lots of Vinyl at reasonable prices. Also carry used DVDs and games.

Great selection of records at good prices. The store is clean and organized, but has enough inventory that it's fun to dig through the bins. My favorite are the $1 bins--all sorts of treasurers there. Can always find some classic hits too--scored three Billy Joel records and Thriller on my last trip. read more

Whats not to love? I've been coming here since you had to cut through Caffiene to get downstairs. I like shopping here because I can buy an album of an artist I've taken a liking to, and if I like it, I know where to get more on the cheap. I've never had to ask the staff for help (my music tastes do not mesh with what's being played on the speakers there) but I see them mingling and offering help to others. Plus its always fun to support small business. Do yourself a favor and park on the street by BK, its a lot easier than trying to fit you+someone backing out+10 other cars in spaces. read more

Not only is this the best place to shop for vinyl in Northern Virginia, it is on par with some of DC proper's better-known record stores. Here you'll find a wide selection of CDs, DVDs, and vinyl. An extremely friendly staff will have no problem helping you out, setting up a listen for you, or just chatting about tunes. The Arlington location is also a good spot for scoping out vinyl - however, in my many visits to both stores, I've usually found a more varied selection of vinyl at Falls Church. read more

Another institution in Falls Church, CD Cellar has been around almost as long as I've been on this planet, and that's because they are exemplary. I've been able to find true gems here, like european-only issues of rare experimental electronic CDs, bizarre underground movies... I could not even begin to remember precisely what I've found here, but I am certain nearly half of my music collection consists of treasure unearthed here, not to mention all of the tickets to shows I've purchased here. They've recently expanded into the entire basement, and the new addition is composed entirely of vinyl, and a hefty amount of jazz records at that! read more

The best selection of used DVDs and CDs for miles! All of the merchandise is in good condition and the prices spectacular! If it's a classic rock cd our searching or an indie group you heard a whisper of your almost certain to find it. However if It's some current pop music I wouldn't get your hopes up. read more

Great selection for most genres (lacking in the harder rock sections). Prices are fair, with several great deals to be found! I would definitely recommend. However, the staff we're unprofessional, enjoying the conversation amongst themselves more than helping customers, and were not very well trained. So much more than I was expecting, an underground hole-in-the-wall by a coffee shop in Falls Church, complete with band fliers, vinyl, used and "scratched" cds, a rewards program, and friendly employees. This is a great hole-in-the-wall CD exchange and place to find vinyl. They have DVDs too. Their selection of CDs is really great, divided by genre and subdivided by band/artist. I focused mainly in the rock/pop section, but noted they had a good sized collection of classical CDs as well. They had a decent selection of vinyl, unfortunately I was looking for a few particular albums which I didn't expect to find (the search for the elusive diamond in the rough... or an album someone left at the store not realizing what they had), but I was told to give the store a call back when their vinyl guys were in during the week -- that if I let them know what I was looking for they could help me keep a look out in case they got any of them in. One of the first record stores I've ever been to and it's already one of the best in my opinion. Loaded collection with hundreds of great albums that are well-priced. I always go in there looking for something in particular and walk out with a couple albums I didn't think I'd end up with. A great store for record lovers. read more

CD Cellar is a music store that stands above others in an era where digital is taking over everything. This isn't a store that sells Susan Boyle to the reality tv watching public. This is a store for those who fight against low quality MP3s and who want the tangible music to hold in their hand. Whether you're a CD person or a Vinyl person, CD Cellar will always surprise you with something in their selection. You may not always find the one thing you're specifically looking for, but you'll always stumble across something you didn't realize you needed until you find it. The CD Cellar is an escape from the fast track live we have been forced to adopt; you can go in and meander around, enjoy the album art all over the walls, search through bin after bin of LPs or CDs and enjoy a store that certainly won't be playing musac. I've been shopping here since 2009 and I could list off the wonderful CDs and LPs that I've found for hours. No other CD store can compete with it's classical, jazz, folk, rock or electronic selections. Their CDs are always in great condition; even the ones labeled, "slightly scratched," have but minor scuffs on them. Also, they guarantee their CDs to play and offer you a full refund if there is any defect. There are CD and LP listening stations so you can check out the music before you buy. This store is an essential asset to the community and I strongly urge others to check it out, tell your friends. With Borders closing, you have only a couple of places to buy music, Best Buy and Barnes & Noble. Each of them charge prices that are astronomically higher than the prices at CD Cellar. Both of them are toying with the idea of dropping their music sections, mind you. So then there will be no store that offers CDs anymore. Certainly not the wide selection that CD Cellar humbly offers. Keep the music alive! read more

cd cellar is a country for all men and women. i got myself a dvd there called Twister and boy was it affordable and in top condition. with the video store a thing of the past, the cd cellar shines on as a bright light. the cd cellar. oh yeah. where you can purchase the dvd, cds. and of course the vinyl record. it is a one stop shop for people who like circles. read more

Well... in northern Virginia its not very easy to find RnB/Soul vinyl albums. This place had a better selection than the Tape Exchange, but still left much to be desired. But, if you are more of a rock fan then you will be in heaven. I left with 2 items, so I was happy not to go home empty-handed, but the selection definitely caters to a particular demographic. read more

These guys offer very competitive valuations for LPs if you're trading in for store credit, but that makes sense because their inventory is extremely limited unless you're only interested in heavy metal/rock and jazz. Their inventory has been very heavily picked over (even though they've recently consolidated inventory from two stores into one), and as far as I can tell they don't sell any new vinyl unless a customer walked it in the door as a traded in. With all that said, the prices are fair and it's one of the very few record stores in the area (unless you want to go into D.C.). read more

It isn't what it was in the 90s (the place to go for a huge pile of 1.99 cds from bands you'd never heard of) but it is still a great place to visit, meet people, and interact with people who like music. My absolute favorite place to shop for vinyl! I stumbled upon the CD Cellar by accident when I was in the Falls Church area one time and I was immediately impressed with the atmosphere. Great selection of old and new LPs, from retro hits to up and coming indie bands. Also good picks for CDs and DVDs. Wanting to unload my CD collection, I phoned for some basic info, but getting it was like pulling teeth. "Each CD has to have front and back cover art and must be in almost new condition," I was told. "We PASS on about 2/3 of the CD's that people try to sell us. Yes, we scrutinize every single one and we're very picky." OK, mine are in great condition with all inserts, but before I haul in several heavy cartons' worth and get rejected, are there particular genres of music you either want or don't want? "Well, that's kind of a loaded question." I finally got him to say "probably not country or alternative country." I hung up with the distinct feeling that CD Cellar would rather I just donated my 800+ CDs to a charity thrift shop, so they wouldn't have to be bothered looking at them. If this store really DOES encourage people to bring in their used CDs, they need to tell the guy who answers the phone. read more

Great store both for vinyls and CD's! The store is split into 2 sections. Upstairs is Vinyls and downstairs is CD's. The vinyl section is great! It might not have the best selection compared to some other record stores in the area, but it does have the best deals compared to others. I got The White Album by The Beatles for only $5! It wasn't exactly in the best condition, but it plays great and how can you go wrong with an album like that for $5? They have a bargain section with titles for $3 and under and also new releases and sealed records all organized alphabetically by band name. Even though the vinyl selection is good, the CD's are what I would really come here for. The downstairs is a goldmine of CD's (and DVD"s and Blu-Ray's) of every genre you could think of. The 2nd room has boxes and boxes full of $3 and under which had some surprisingly good titles in them. I walked out finding several good titles I had been looking for at a good price. If you are looking to get some CD"s for your collection, this is the place to go to! Even though the vinyl selection isn't the best, it's still good enough to recommend making it a trip to as well.
