We were big fans until now. We ordered a caramel cake for Christmas and it turned out VERY dry. When my wife went back to discuss it the owner insulted my wife and was very defensive about it. Like others, I first fell in love with these absolutely delectable cakes at the Last Resort - it is utterly impossible to come across a bad flavor. I found out about the bakery's location several months ago, but have been itching for a reason to actually place an order and now that I have, I'm just sad that once I graduate, Cecilia will be a million miles away from me. I could live off of this stuff! When I placed an order for my cousin's birthday cake, I didn't go for an already existing flavor because my cousin is pretty picky. He prefers vanilla and she admitted that it is extremely plain, but I also told her that he enjoys caramel, so even though she had never combined just those two flavors in a cake, she somehow worked her magic and produced such a delicious cake that everyone loved! There were a lot of non-cake lovers in my family (omg I know, soooo mind-boggling), so if they pronounced it scrumptious, then you better believe it. Moist, spongy vanilla cake with yummy caramel layers, covered in the most heavenly caramel frosting. Oh my. Love. For about $11 that feeds 8-9, this was probably the best $11 I have ever spent in my life. Would it be awful of me to request my next birthday cake here and have my parents drive about 1.5 hours to pick it up?? ;) (A note about the location: there's no giant sign, so it's kind of easy to drive right past it if you're not paying attention. Also, there is private parking, but it's cramped, so if you're picking up on a Saturday morning like I did, expect lots of cars and some oddly parked cars. If you need to order a cake for a special occasion, look beyond a sheet cake at Publix and get something special. Get a Cecilia cake. These cakes are consistently moist, delicious, and not too rich - all things that can make or break your cake eating experience. I once had to order tonnnnns of cake for my dad's surprise 50th birthday party and needed enough cake for ~200 people. The woman I spoke to was very helpful and friendly as she dealt with my indecision to pick flavors. Finally, we settled on one sheet cake of mocha, one sheet cake of lemon, one sheet cake of raspberry, and a small red velvet for my dad (his fav). I was wrongfully worried about how the larger order would turn out, but I was definitely impressed by their service/quality of so much freaking cake. I was excited to try and order a cake for my daughters Sweet 16 Birthday. This bakery made my wedding cake many years ago and it was truly the best cake I'd ever eaten. I just got married on Halloween, and Cecilia's made not one but THREE cakes for us - a Caramel wedding cake that was INCREDIBLE and 2 birthday cakes (Red Velvet & Carrot Cakes) - and all 3 of those cakes were yummy. Everyone at my wedding raved about the Caramel cake, and I can't wait for our first anniversary to have it again. In addition, all we had to do is send them a picture of what we wanted and they hit the mark perfectly! I must say I have been buying these cakes for all the birthdays in the family for a number of years and I think they are a high 3 to mid 4 rating. They don't really answer there phone too often and they need 24hrs notice and that is if they are not busy. I guess when you are making cakes for a lot of local restaurants and organized people it works. i kinda fly by the seat of my pants but usually can score a cake when needed. Eat a Cecilia's cake, and you'll never want any other cake again. WOW. Out of this world amazing. There is something about a Cecilia's cake. So fresh, even for days afterward. Moist and luscious. Love this little small scale business, a true Athens treasure. My favorite is the Spanish Lemon followed closely by the Dulce le Leche. Holy cow. SO GOOD. I ordered the red velvet cake for my wedding. It was very moist and the icing was delicious, but the cake did not look like a red velvet at all. It was a Kool-Aid pink-red, which means that it was not a chocolate cake at heart (as red velvet is supposed to be). As a cake, it was delicious, as a red velvet cake it was disappointing. read more

They are AMAZING!!! Cecilia's made my wedding cakes. We had a cake table at my wedding. They made two tier cake with white frosting that had a strawberry base and lemon top. It was my traditional cake. I also ordered 4 signature cakes (Caramel, Red Velvet, Mocha,and Baileys). The cakes were beautiful and delicious. Cecilia's was wonderful to work with and they delivered the cakes to the venue for me. My guests raved about the cakes. There was a crowd gathered at the table after the cutting because they were so excited to get their favorite flavor. I am so glad I chose Cecilia's! read more

Don't get me wrong - these are 5 star cakes! The lemon cake - holy moly!!! So good. The kahlua cake is the stuff dreams are made of. And the prices are incredibly fair! But the customer service is.... Kinda weird. I've ordered a few cakes here and there, a total of 5 times now, and every single time has been difficult in one way or another. They don't seem to have set hours OR an answering machine. (I'm pretty sure they just take the phone off the hook for most of the day.) Also the lady working there (she seemed to be the baker?) seemed really stressed out by me, which in turn stressed me out, even though all I wanted to do was order a cake! Maybe she's got too many bridezillas breathing down her throat? Or maybe the business is run poorly, with this woman struggling to simultaneously make cakes and answer the phones and run the register? Or maybe I have just had bad luck and caught them on their off days? But the cakes are too good and too affordable to forget about. I will always come back. read more

The absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. Ordered three cakes for my daughters first birthday party to pickup on a Saturday. We forgot to pick up Saturday as they are only open 8-12, went first thing Monday morning to pick them up (they are closed Sunday) and we'd been informed they were already thrown away! The cakes had already been fully paid for also.... Spoke with the manager and he was extremely rude saying it wasn't his fault. I admit we forgot to pick them up, but have some decency and understand your customers are only human. Geez. No refund or apology was offered. I had a cake made for my daughter's law school graduation. We placed the order well in advance and they told us they could deliver it to our venue. We were later told they couldn't deliver it because they had several weddings which had nothing to do with us. That was inconvenient. The cake tasted nothing like what we sampled. It had too much filling and tasted of crisco shortening. I just got off the phone with someone there and his stance was "you all said it was fine" but what could we do about it at that point. The cake was presented to us on foil paper. I think they overbooked themselves and paid less attention to our cake because wasn't an expensive cake. I guess if you are not a baker ( but I am) then this probably would have been okay but not for me. You will have much better result if you go to a supermarket bakery. read more

I had a pretty lousy experience trying to order some cakes for a wedding here. My only request was for buttercream flowers (not really that wild of a request, is it?). I was told the Cecilia's WILL NOT make buttercream flowers, not because the staff lacks the skills, but because the owner does not like them. Uh, sorry, but the owner isn't the one buying or eating the cakes. The photobook of past cakes was less than inspiring, and as soon as the baker found out these cakes were for a wedding, upcharged me $200 ! Sorry, I'll make my own buttercream flowers and buy the cakes elsewhere. read more

I came to this place to order my boyfriend's graduation cake. The place was kind of dirty and the staff apathetic (and trust me, I'm being generous in my description), however I decided to give the place a chance because it was close to my house and looked like it could benefit from a little bit of business. I told the guy working there a general idea of what I wanted I and assured him that I trusted his opinion on the finer details. The guy told me to come back later that week to pick up the cake, and I did. However, much to my shock, they told me that they did even make my cake. When, out of desperation, I begged them for an explanation, they curtly told me I never paid a deposit to them or called to confirm the design. I would have done both of those things had they told me when I first came in! The guy working there that first day I came in said everything was good to go. I am so disappointed, I had to scramble at the last minute to get a cake made for my boyfriend's graduation party. Which means I was stuck buying a stupid cake from Kroger. One of those already made ones in the refrigerators by the bakery, which I had the bakery people write a personalized message on. They spelled "congratulations" wrong--"Congradulations." My boyfriend's graduation has been an absolute disaster for me so far, and it's basically all this place's fault. Also, just a word of warning to anyone still thinking of coming to craphole--they told me the first time I came in that the cake I ordered would be $23, however when I came back that time, in addition to unsympathetically telling me that there was nothing they could do to help me get a cake in time for our graduation party, they told me that a cake there would actually cost me $46. Hmm, it's pretty weird how this new price is exactly double the first price they gave me. It's almost like different employees there arbitrarily double their prices if they don't like your face or something. Ugh, I'm so sad. I thought writing this review would make me feel better about the situation but I still feel so disappointed. I guess I'll just go try to turn the d into a t on the stupid Kroger cake. read more

I have found her cakes to be dry and the frosting to have that crispy texture that Publix type cakes usually have. I've also heard from friends who have ordered from her that they have sometimes gotten the wrong flavors in their cakes or that it's been the wrong cake altogether. I do apologize if this is bad form, but I much prefer Deborah's Specialty Cakes. She is another local baker who has been in the business for almost 30 years and she makes delicious cakes, from scratch, that look gorgeous. (She also makes a true Italian buttercream frosting, and it is decadent!) I've rarely heard anything but great things about Deborah's, and my personal experiences have all been wonderful. Oh! And she delivers wedding cakes to Atlanta, too, which is fantastic, particularly because her prices are much better than most ATL vendors. read more

Ownership has changed at Cecilia's and the quality of the cakes has dramatically deteriorated but the worst part is the customer service. At time of payment everything was fine but when it was time to pick up our cake, it was not ready. To add insult to injury the employee and owner were as rude as they could be. They basically had a wedding to attend to and did not care much about helping us for our already paid for simple birthday cake. When we tried to call back they simply did not answer or returned our message until the next day. The next day was just one day too late. Unacceptable. read more
