All I can say is that this shop has one of the most horrible customer services I have ever encountered, particularly their delivery service. The driver flat-out accused our parents of being liars. She said she tried to deliver and described a house that was not even the right one. I tried to explain but the manager/owner would like to charge me another $14 delivery fee, which I refused. The fact that they accused our parents of being liars is beyond me. They may have good cakes (I don't know, I never tried it), but their customer service is terrible. I guess I am not the only one who has issues with this lack of skill. Do I recommend this shop even if they "might" have good cakes? No! Treating your customers well is important. read more

The cake is extremely flavorful, moist, and fluffy. I chose the buttercream frosting so I was already expecting that thick, sweet frosting that comes with it (but not too sweet where I feel I've gotten a cavity upon consumption). It was just right. Located in a weird area...probably the only con. Seriously, you need to ring the bell, then they let you in. Maybe I'm just being weird about it but that threw me off. The cake however did more then deliver...it topped my day! My boyfriend (who hates overly sweet things) loved the cake. The smallest cake could easily feed MORE than 8 people. It is not Cecilia's cakes! First of all, it is NOT Cecilia's any more. As of a month or so ago, there is new ownership. Kool's Cake Shop is how the phone number reads on caller id. I placed a very specific, easy order over the phone for my mom's 75th birthday. I phoned to confirm they could do exactly what I wanted. I confirmed the order a second time, before I put down the phone. It was a NO-Brainer. Red and Black cake with red writing and NO SMEARS on the side. My husband picked the cake up for me and sent me a pic. Imagine my surprise when I saw white "writing" and smears everywhere. The decorator was too busy too talk to me so I left a message strongly requesting a call back. When I talked to Heather, the new owner, she said the cake consultant had no recollection of my specific requests. Heather all but called me a liar. She proceeded to say when I ordered next time... "Why would there be a next time?" I like to support local! However, she chose to cast insults. And, I could not get something that was definitively communicated right the first time. I told her that their would be no next time. She condescendingly said, "What a pity that you will not give us another chance because of RED WRITING..." I ended the call at this time. Got a cake from Cecilia's for my friend's 40th birthday because they have the best reviews in town. Got a red and black 6" cake after calling multiple times and getting an email back that they aren't taking email orders. They were able to accomodate writing on the cake I added the day before pickup, but only after I got a call back from someone who chastised me for sending in the request via email - I tried to call, but didn't get an answer. The cake itself was moist and good, but the frosting was way to thick - everyone at the party agreed which upset me because I paid double what I would have to go to Publix and the Publix cake would have been better. I love this place. Not only are the cakes phenomenal the owner is extremely courteous. I just ordered a cake for my birthday on the 6th of August but have to pick it up a week early. I was super glad to know that I could freeze it for a week and it would still be good (since I now live in Charlotte NC) and the owner assured me the cake would still be good! I have been getting my birthday cakes here since I was 13 and I was so thrilled to find out I wouldn't have to sacrifice that even though I lived in a different state! I highly recommend the Tres Leches, Raspberry and Lemon cakes. They are SO moist and beyond delicious. My mouth is watering just talking about it. I have thought highly of this establishment in the past so I ordered 3 cakes well in advance to serve family and guests at Christmas. I was particularly eager to share what had once been an excellent caramel cake. I was quite embarrassed by the fact that the cake was noticeably drier than previous ones and that the icing was so hard that it it broke off the cake when sliced. When I went to the bakery to ask for help, the owner's answer was to plunge his hand into the cake and squeeze it through his fingers. Quite disgusting. The "cake nazi." If you want a "presentation cake" for a wedding at a cheap price, this is where to go. As far as having a professionally baked cake that will complement a special meal, you would be better off going to "Fresh Market" -- or any number of bakeries in the area. The best wedding cakes in the Athens area. Although their designs are not that innovative, this is the wedding cake that everybody actually WANTS to eat. Their red velvet sets the bar for that type of cake for me. Incredibly dense, moist, and flavorful, the cherry-colored red sponge is perfectly offset with their smooth cream cheese icing. My mom and brother bought my 30th cake (strawberry) from here this past weekend. This cake tasted terrible like it was not completely done, and for 75.00 you would think the cake would be good. I have had other cakes from here and no this is not their normal, but when you are being paid for your service I believe you should put your best effort into it. This cake was big enough to feed 60 people and NO one ate it and we had to throw the entire cake away. Thank goodness we had a backup plan for desserts. Yum. We ordered our wedding cake from Cecilia's last year after being disappointed at several bakeries. Cecilia's bakery is a small bakery on a non-descript street in Athens, GA. When you call them, it is likely you won't get an answer and will have to leave a message. It is likely you won't hear back from them the same day. After some phone-tagging, we set up a tasting with the bakery and a sit down to discuss aesthetics and prices. The prices were very reasonable, esp in comparison to bakeries in the Athens and Atlanta areas. The tasting itself is done nearby at The Last Resort Grill, where Cecilia's cakes are served. The downside to this is that not every flavor is going to be available on every day. One of the flavors we wanted to try in particular was not available, and we had to come back a different day to try it. Cecilia's was nice enough to bake us a mini-cake in the flavor we wanted to try (for free). We were nervous in the weeks leading up to the wedding itself as it was hard to get a hold of the folks at Cecilia's, but our wedding planner basically took over that duty and took care of it. The cake arrived, perfect and delicious and on time on the day of the wedding with no issues. For our one year anniversary, Cecilia's also gifted us with a 6inch anniversary cake (also free). I received a word-of-mouth referral to this bakery. Their cakes on their website looked deeeelish, and ours was. HOWEVER... 1) I tried twice to call to order over the phone, no answer. I thought maybe they were closed for vacation or out of business. I emailed to see if there was a better phone number or time to reach them. The response was short saying they were very busy - to call early morning. 2) Called again, they answered, and I explained what had happened. Staff said they were very busy, a small bakery, and sometimes didn't answer the phone. Staff said they did not take orders on email. I told them what my email said, that I was not trying to order via email, but that I had tried to call to order. This person seemed rushed, and the responses were curt. 3) I ordered a 1/4 sheet cake for 2 milestone birthdays. Since I was ordering long distance and could not discuss options in person, I expected guidance from professionals. I was operating from the photos of the cakes shown on their website. The staff was very unhelpful and uncreative. The more I asked for help and suggestions, the less the person offered. The comment was that most people know what they want before they order. The person repeatedly told me what they could NOT do - with all that writing on the cake, there would be no room for anything else. I actually had to beg them to do something like add some tiny sugar flowers. They said they would - if there was room. I couldn't imagine that there wouldn't be room on the corners or the sides/edges. 4) I picked up the cake on time. The staff person was friendly. The cake was very plain. I asked about the sugar flowers. The person checked. Said they had run out of them. A voice from the back shouted that they were on order and might be in soon. This is a professional bakery! 5) The staff person started boxing up the cake. The person in the back was telling her how to manipulate the box so that it would fit, and then explained that their boxes don't seem to match the size of a 1/4 sheet cake. Again, this is a professional bakery. 6) I decided to go to a party store to buy some decorations because it was so plain. Also there was plenty of room to do icing roses or other special things on and around the cake. Ironically, I've wondered if the bakery was too busy to accommodate my order because they were making the wedding cakes (yes, plural) for my niece's wedding - the reason for our visit. I passed this information on to my family who resides in Athens, GA, and my sister-in-law saw the cake and was surprised, disappointed, and helped my add the decorations I had purchased. read more

I first came across Cecilia's cakes while interning at a wedding planning business. Cecilia's was the vendor they used and so we always had her Spanish Lemon, Mocha, Caramel, and Raspberry cakes on hand for tastings. This means that at the end of the week, the leftover cakes were devoured by the office. My favorite Cecilia's cakes are the Spanish Lemon and Raspberry. You really can't go wrong. They have tons of other flavors and you can check them out on their website. AND the price is amazing as well. For about $11, you can feed 6 to 8 people. I got a Coconut cake for my boyfriend's birthday and that was slightly disappointing because it didn't have a noticeable coconut flavor. But my boyfriend still thought it was delicious and he loved the light whipped icing that enrobed this moist cake. I'm so sad that Cecilia's is all the way in Athens...so far from me. I fell in love with Cecilia's cakes when I was a freshman at UGA. A freind of mine bought the Spanish Lemon cake for a birthday and it has been history ever since. I have honestly had almost all of the Cakes made there, save those with nut ingredients--as I am allergic. Not only is staff incredibly patient as I make up my mind, but they are extemely helpful when I have an inquery on ingredients. They have always been friendly and taken orders at the last min. Soon thereafter, I decided to change the order to Saturday, and called FOUR times in a row (right after I had called and someone picked up) - ringing and no one answers. So I sent an email. I have never heard of Cecilia Cakes before but now I will be looking for excuses to order another one of their cakes real soon. It was my roommate's birthday and someone suggested ordering a cake from Cecilia's because they have tasted their cakes from Last Resort before. The cake has been in the fridge for 4 days now and it still tastes good as the first day we brought it. I love how their have mastered at balancing the sweetness in their cakes. I tend to categorize the cakes I buy into two categories:"American" cakes and "Asian" cakes. Most "American" cakes I have tasted are usually overly sweet and very dense. Most "Asian" cakes I have tasted are usually not sweet enough but has a nice fluffy texture. Cecilia's cake is just sweet enough to where you don't grow sick after one or two slice and it has a very light fluffy texture where it just melts in your mouth.
