These little cottages are perfect for a family stay for a week or five (I wish). It's a beautiful spot right in the middle of the Les Cheneaux Islands and you have a beautiful view of the water from inside your cottage and on the deck. There' a boat dock where you are free to keep your boat if you bring one, or you can just fish off the end like some of the little kids have been doing this week. They have a makeshift little beach area with about six plastic Adirondack chairs and I'm telling you, these kids staying here can't get enough of that sand. Right next to that area they have five kayaks ready to go- my cousins and I take full advantage of these every time we stay. Every cottage's deck has some of their own Adirondack chairs which we take from one to the other since we stay in two cottages right next to each other for the week. There's also a charcoal grill at each one which, again, we take full advantage of throughout the week. There's a fire pit off to the side of the cottages which I a great way to spend the evenings. Inside the cottages- fully stocked with dishes, towels, blankets, etc. There's free wifi and cable in each one. Plenty of outlets if you're worried about charging electronics or if you (like my mom) will be working at any point during your stay. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, stove, oven, and microwave- so everything you could need to make any meal you desire. The owners of this place are incredible. Kirstin an Jason are two of nicest people we've met and they really care about everyone here and making sure you enjoy your stay. They live in a house right on the same property so they're almost always around. Both of them drop in periodically to make sure you're enjoying your time and that there's nothing you need from them. They own the North Coast Company in Hessel now which is an ice cream, fudge, and coffee shop inside the showroom of E.J. Mertaugh Boat Works. This was the first Chris Craft dealership in America, for those of you who enjoy boats. This part of Michigan is simply incredible. It's beautiful and quiet with plenty of outdoor activity going on. You're only a little bit away from Mackinac Island, the Soo Locks in Sault Ste Marie, and Tahquamenon Fall- all excellent day trips during your stay. I mean lets be realistic, who doesn't enjoy a walking distant to the spa or a chilled tall drink with a fancy umbrella served by the "Beautiful People" But I also would like to believe that Nature is good for you, Right? We love that we can use the kayaks and the canoe or the pontoon, and watching the bald eagles that live on the lake is majestic to say the very least. Our kids love the playground on site and we love the friendly atmosphere while we're here! It's the perfect distance from Mackinaw and we love driving into the city for the day. Our summers won't be complete without a stay here. Be sure to call and book early, it fills up fast and the regulars get their spots booked an entire year in advance.

I guess this was suppose to add support to the outdated furnishings. The refrigerator had rust all over it. Talk about losing your appetite. The shower was the size of a port a pot. The screens did not fit properly. And when you are surrounded by trees and water, and you don't have properly fitting screens, you'll have insects and bugs. Speaking of which, the light in our kitchen was covered with bugs that gravitated to the fixture. Then at night when we turned the bedroom light on and bugs came out onto the bed that was it. My wife said "Time to go".

We were immediately offerred assistance with our bags, which we utilized since my wife can't lift anything heavy. Our room was perfect and spacious, with a nice little balcony. The Kilwin's chocolates were a nice little welcome surprise. The weather was unseasonably warm, so we actually spent a few hours at the pool and laying in one of the cabanas on the lake. It was super relaxing and a pleasant surprise. We expected the pool to be closed for the season already. The rest of the grounds on the lake side of the hotel were amazing. From the perfectly manicured bent grass lawn to the outdoor patio, everything was beautiful. The morning breakfast buffet was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the omelet station which had lots of ingredients to choose from. One morning, we treated ourselves to a couple's massage at the spa. The staff was very accommodating for my wife. It was my first time ever getting a massage an it was super relaxing! The whole Bay Harbor development around the hotel is kind of odd, with a fake downtown and what looks like an attempt to create a walkable residential area, yet it was missing key sidewalks to get around. Go to the nearby towns and explore. The Inn at Bay Harbor isn't going to be the cheapest option in the area, but it's one of the best if you want full amenities and a more luxurious up north experience (not usually my cup of tea, but it was fun to once). It's great for a special occassion or an anniversary getaway.

We just completed our stay at Crooked Tree Cabins after a quick Memorial Day weekend. What a…read morespecial little secret in northern Michigan! We stayed in the Hemingway cabin and absolutely loved our experience! The cabins have a wonderful, early/mid 20th century rustic appeal and each one is a little different. All the cooking utensils we needed were there, including pots and pans, and the galley sized kitchen was perfect for two people and a dog. The cabin felt private and was truly a special place we can't wait to return to! Any negative reviews I'm reading are most likely picky people with unrealistic expectations about most experiences. These are fairly rustic cabins, with hot running water, heat, and cable TV. If you aren't satisfied with Crooked Tree, you likely expect way too much from this type of mom and pop lakeside resort. If you want a hotel, stay at a hotel, if you want a rustic "roughing it" experience without sleeping on the ground or in a camper, this is the place! Cable TV was nice, but we watched very little considering our beautiful view of Paradise Lake from our cabin. We definitely utilized the free row boat for fishing and the hearty supply of firewood in the evenings. Speaking of which, the night sky was absolutely incredible and perfect for star gazing. The host, Rene, was so incredibly sweet, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. She helped us with any questions we had, and was very responsive. The best part was that we were a short drive to Wilderness State Park or Mackinac City, or virtually anywhere else you'd want to go in that part of the state. We definitely plan on staying again and can't wait to get back!
