Unfortunately one of them had to come clean our room that had been reserved 3 weeks prior to our arrival. When I checked out on July 6th the woman in glasses sitting in the front office looked up from her reading when I told her room ### checking out she said ok and went back to reading. I have stayed in some shady hotels and 5 star hotels yet this is first time not being inquired about the stay. Yes that would not have changed my mind about returning it just affirmed lacking this simple gesture is the negative that breeds more negativity in any working environment.

We stayed in the Hemingway cabin and absolutely loved our experience! The cabins have a wonderful, early/mid 20th century rustic appeal and each one is a little different. All the cooking utensils we needed were there, including pots and pans, and the galley sized kitchen was perfect for two people and a dog. The cabin felt private and was truly a special place we can't wait to return to! Any negative reviews I'm reading are most likely picky people with unrealistic expectations about most experiences. These are fairly rustic cabins, with hot running water, heat, and cable TV. If you aren't satisfied with Crooked Tree, you likely expect way too much from this type of mom and pop lakeside resort. If you want a hotel, stay at a hotel, if you want a rustic "roughing it" experience without sleeping on the ground or in a camper, this is the place! Cable TV was nice, but we watched very little considering our beautiful view of Paradise Lake from our cabin. We definitely utilized the free row boat for fishing and the hearty supply of firewood in the evenings. Speaking of which, the night sky was absolutely incredible and perfect for star gazing. The host, Rene, was so incredibly sweet, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. She helped us with any questions we had, and was very responsive. The best part was that we were a short drive to Wilderness State Park or Mackinac City, or virtually anywhere else you'd want to go in that part of the state. We definitely plan on staying again and can't wait to get back!

The 270-degree view is, as advertised by the inn, spectacular. You can sit out on the point in the inn's yard and see a good number of Les Cheneux' islands and a far-off glimpse of the Martin Reef Lighthouse. You can bring along your kayak or canoe to dock at the boathouse and use the inn as a base to explore the protected channels and islands in this area of northern Lake Huron. You'll get a full breakfast here, often emphasizing the use of local ingredients like maple syrup from the nearby Tassiers and Betty's homemade bread and pastries. Jim and Betty went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Betty always made sure there was a jug of ice tea in the fridge for me and Jim arranged for us to go sailing with a friend of his because his own boat (which he usually used to take guests on a short tour of the area) was in for repairs the week we were there. Cedarville is also a good place to make your base when exploring the eastern Upper Peninsula. Sault Ste. Marie, St. Igance, Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, Whitefish Point, Drummond Island...are all possible to do as day trips from here. One thing to remember, they only take cash or personal check for payment. No credit cards.
