I found this establishment from a referral from my previous kennel because they were already booked up. Big mistake on their part because I will not be returning to that kennel. This is my new "go to" kennel. On short notice, I needed to leave for a week and CLK was able to get me in. I was able to do a walk through the facility prior to leaving Amber. Since this was Amber's first overnight, I was nervous. I don't like "first time stays" to be a week. I would rather have a single night "starter" but I didn't have time. The staff was very receptive to Amber's arrival and most importantly, they could wonderful care of Amber. She had a spacious kennel and free time that was not group play, but one-on-one with a staffer. Sweet! Per my request, I was sent an occasional photo of Amber. Yes, I am that over protect dog Mom. I am somewhat hesitant to share this hidden gem, but I have to admit I have shared this location with a couple of my dog friends. This is a winner! read more

Our dog isn't comfortable around other dogs, which is one of the reasons why we needed this type of kennel setting. Jeannie guided us through the process. You can really see how much she cares for the dog. Our pet was happy to see us, but also loved and was comfortable so quickly around Jeannie! I called to get a price quote on a shampoo & trim for a Maltese that I'm taking care of long-term for my cousin. I was quoted $38. When I brought Kiki there, the staff seemed very nice. The owner seemed short tempered, and the older lady, perhaps the owner's wife seemed curt but professional. When I picked up the dog, I was told that the price was $58. I'm a working stiff, so I asked why the price was higher than the price quote. The lady explained this pretty well, that a lot of work went into the grooming even though she said that she had quoted me for just a shampoo and grooming while I reminded her that she had quoted me for a trim as well, and I even mentioned how long I wanted the hair to be. So I said that it looked like they did a good job, but I politely asked if they could take $5 off as $58 was $20 more than I had been quoted. The owner interjected, "Take off $5, and NEVER COME BACK." They didn't take credit cards, and the owner at first wouldn't tell me where a nearby ATM was. He said, "That's your problem." When I pressed him, he reluctantly told me where I could get cash to get my dog. My daughter said, "That man was so mean." I agree. The man could have said $5 off is fine. Or he could have said, "Tthat's our price. We do great work." But to say, "Never come back," and to tell me it's my problem to find an ATM - I don't think anyone should ever patronize these guys. I told the lady there that I would let others know of my bad experience. So out of spite, they called my cousin, the owner of the dog, that his 5 lb. Maltese can never return to their kennel. I frantically searched everywhere for a place to board my pup for a weekend at the beginning of August. All I could find were a.) places that boarded dogs that had been to their own obedience school and boot-camp program (which translates into give me a bunch of cash) or b.) places that offered only day-care without an overnight option. There were several service that offered to come to your home, but call me old fashioned, I just don't want some stranger going to my house when I'm not there. So upon the suggestion of my husband, who had attempted to use this kennel service before with his dogs (they wouldn't allow for his Chow to stay there.) I called them about a week and a half before the trip, and made sure there was room. We were in luck. They asked about my dog's general health and temperament. (Happy, healthy and oh, so spoiled.) I was told I needed to bring her updated immunization records with me, or she would not be boarded. So the day arrived, and we dragged the princess there. We passed the place up once, since it is set way back from the road and only a small wooden sign announces its presence. But the lot its on is absolutely huge! Lots of open room for all the dogs to run. There were three buildings to house the dogs, and one for grooming only. We got there early, but there already was a line forming. Three others for grooming, and two other dogs for boarding services. The woman checking everyone in seemed a bit frazzled, but very nice. She explained that each dog was given three half-hour outdoor play times a day, but you could get other services (such as grooming, extra play times or exercise walks) for different fees. We just went with the boarding, since we were only gone for a couple of days. They charge by weight of the dog. Since my pup was in the 50-75 range, it was about $28 a day, and if we picked her up before noon on that Monday (we were bringing her in on Thursday, and since they were closed on Sundays) we would not be charged for that Monday. Sweet deal! So we left our little girl in what looked to be capable hands. And they turned out to be great. Of course our puppy was happy to see us come Monday, but she was well taken care of in our absence. I will definitely be back here to board and even take advantage of the grooming services. The only drawback I could come up with, is that they only take checks or cash. No credit cards allowed. read more

My husband and I just picked up our 2 dogs this past Monday after returning from a 2-week vacation. We chose this place because my husband remembers it being around for years from when he grew up in the area. We looked up the reviews on yelp to see they were positive. I had a good feeling about this place and was not let down. When I picked them up, they were more excited to see the owner than me! The dogs are kept in kennels but have a play area where the dogs are allowed to play (separate from other dogs) at various times during the day. We paid add'l for 1 walk per day. I sent an email a few days into our trip to see how the dogs were doing. I received a cute email back the following day with a brief update (written by the dogs) telling me how much fun they were having. It was a nice reassurance they were OK and in good hands since I felt guilty putting them in a kennel being I had just adopted them 2 months prior from a shelter. The pricing is really reasonable. I would use them again in the future when we go on vacation. read more

The staff met with us beforehand, and were able to get her to feel more comfortable with them before we left. It is obvious that the staff loves dogs, and I feel very confident in leaving my pets with them. We moved back to the area about 6 months ago and haven't had to board our 4 year old beagle/hound dog yet. So I was a little nervous handing her over to just anybody. When looking for the right place, it seemed like in order to get the quality of services, you had to pay a huge fee. I did a lot of looking around and saw positive reviews for Cedar Lanes. It didn't come across as the glitzy, glam "pet hotels" that offer ridiculous services like "spa treatments" and their own TV all day long, but it seemed to be run by capable, competent people. Their pricing seemed very fair ($23.50) a day. They offered to provide food, but seeing that it was my dog's first trip back to a kennel in almost 8-9 months, decided to keep her on her regular food to minimize that "shock". When I pulled up to their place (nestled in a residential neighborhood), it seemed cozy and friendly. My fiancé and I walked the dog into the office area and hit a "call" button to indicate that we needed to be helped. It took a couple of minutes, but that was fine. Our dog was sniffing and getting adjusted to the room. A woman appeared and she seemed nice enough. The thing I found very strange was she asked how old our dog was at least 4 times, if not more. She kept saying "she looks like a puppy! How old is she?" and we would reply "4 years old". Then a few minutes later she'd ask again. Maybe she had a lot on her mind, but the retention just didn't seem to be there. Half way through checking us in, her husband came in and took over the check-in process (we had to tell him the dog's age again!). Our dog is super friendly and wanted to help him with the paperwork so she put her paws on the desk observing him writing. He handled her great. He smiled and said "Oh, you're going to help?" and gave her a pat on the head. She liked him instantly. Finally we were all checked in and the owner (guy) approached our dog with the "loaner leash". She immediately sat and waited for the leash transfer. She was very well behaved with him and he treated her well. As we left, she never looked back, rather kept looking up at him, being obedient. When I picked her up, everything went fine. I asked how she was and all he said was "good". (From previous reviews, I saw that there were much more detailed reports that showed that the owners actually spent time with the dog. I did not get that warm fuzzy.) They had a 10% off coupon, which was a big help. We dropped her off at 4:30pm on a Friday and picked her up at 5:30pm on a Monday and my total was $84.00. (I did splurge and get her an extra playtime on Sunday for 30 minutes.) Our dog was happy to see me when I picked her up, but didn't have that "Oh my GOSH, thank GOODNESS you're here to save me" attitude that she has gotten from other boarding experiences. PROS: reasonably priced, dog seemed to adjust well to the place, owners have been in business for a long time (60 years?), and geographically convenient. CONS: didn't get warm fuzzies that our dog got real "one-on-one" time with anyone. I was hoping for more of a report of her time there since it was her first trip. I'll be going back to them again, but am hoping for more feedback on her stay. read more

We have a rescue that has only been boarded once before. She had to be boarded twelve days for this vacation. She is a small dachshund, doesn't do well with other dogs, has very specific feeding instructions, and is used to me and my family around her 24/7. Before we chose this facility the owner himself gave me a full tour of the grounds, allowing my dog to join us on the tour, and explained every detail and answered my questions. When I dropped her off there was about 20 minutes of paperwork to be taken care off and my dog was nervous. I called to check in- we did both a playtime and walk each day. They said she was eating well and that she got along well with the employees, no issues with other dogs. I had her groomed- nails clipped, ears cleaned, bathed and when I picked her up she faces kisses goodbye to the owner- very special thing for her to do for someone she barely knows. She did lose a pound which is scary for such a small dog but we knew she was probably stressed out and also normally gets a lot of treats that we didn't have them do. Much better than your typical boarding with a vet. In the end, it was very affordable for the length of time she was there, they did a really good job clipping her nails, and we're happy to give me updates on how my dog was holding up. I took my Samoyed to this particular kennel for Memorial Day weekend because our usual kennel was booked. I took her her own food and water. When we left, peter tried to pet her and she quickly ran away from him. As we were driving home maybe five minutes or so, she starts throwing up and going diarrhea inside my car. (She has never gone inside the car before.) When we get home, she continues to have diarrhea and throwing up. An hour or so passes by and still has diarrhea but with blood. I call the kennel and speak to Genie first. She doesn't know anything as far as she knows the dog was fine. Then I get a call from peter who proceeds to tell me that she needs socialization training and needs to warm up to people. Then at the end throws in that they gave her some intestinal food because she wasn't eating. They never asked me if they could give it to her nor did they mention anything of the sorts when we called or dropped her off. Now I have to spend extra to take her to the animal hospital to have her checked out. If your pets don't socialize or eat their food quickly, avoid this place. read more

We recently boarded 'our girl' at Cedar Lane Kennels for 4 weeks and we couldn't ask for better treatment for her (and us) too. We were anxious about leaving her that long, so the owners sent us pictures and updates on how she was doing, including new tricks and new games she was learning (!). Because we were returning right as virus lockdowns began, they sent us some early tips to prep us for our re-entry and they were very happy to transfer her to us in the parking lot in a "distant hands free" way as we needed to be extremely cautious after travel. Our girl was frisky, happy, at her usual weight (and clean!) when we picked her up. When we later dropped some items off in the kennel driveway she wanted to get out and visit! She obviously had a great time and excellent care at Cedar Lane. We highly recommend Cedar Lane Kennels. read more

I'm so sorry to write a long review, but I really feel this place is maybe only good for perfect dogs, and the owner is completely unprofessional and rude.I read a review on their site that someone had a rescue dog and that "the owner is patient and kind" and "understands dogs", which was probably what made me call this business in the first place--- and I could not disagree more. My husband and I were looking for a place to board our dogs. Both are rescues. One is aggressive on the leash, but he's been groomed multiple times, has done doggie daycare, boarding, etc., and has NEVER had an issue. I told this to the owner when I called. I also told him our other dog is nervous with people, at first--- but again, has been boarded, groomed, loves other dogs (we can take this one to dog parks). The place is all the way out in Downers Grove, but there was that review on that site (and I'm not sure I checked Yelp-- what was I thinking?), the price was great, and I was enamored by the outdoor private runs and the opportunity for our dogs to get some out-of-the-city time. We haven't had to board them since living in Chicago (we're from Oregon), so this was our first boarding here. Then there was a deposit issue. I wasn't told of the $75 deposit when I first booked the reservation. I called the weekend before Christmas to ask about drop-off times and was only then told about the $75 deposit. Okay, not a big deal, except they don't take cards, so I had to mail a check, and it's Christmastime. I called the Dec 26th to see if the deposit arrived and was told no, and if if didn't arrive Friday, the 27th, I'd have to find someplace else to board them. I asked if they would please call me when the mail arrived, and I would drive there with cash if my check was not there. Fine. But he didn't. When I called at 5:00pm on Friday the 27th, he acted like he didn't know who I was and then said, "I don't know-- I don't get the mail." I recounted our phone call and he put me on hold, then let me know my check arrived. Fine. All is good. So my husband drove out to Downers Grove from Chicago and there was a lot of paperwork to deal with while my dogs sat there nervously. Then the owner says he needs to pour our dog food into their containers (even though he told me on the phone it just needed to be in a sealed container with instructions--- I have a bucket with lid and feeding instructions taped to the top). So he's pouring the food into other containers in front of my dogs and my dogs are just sitting there nervously, now waiting for this food. They've been there for 15 minutes now, and the owner then needs to take off their collars and put one of those loop leashes on them. This is something we've never experienced, either. He's yanking on my nervous dog's collar (it's a slip-off that needs to be loosened) and the smaller dog bites at his sweatshirt. He gets angry at my husband and says, "What was that?!" My husband said, "He got a hold of your sweatshirt. He's nervous and gets like that on the leash," to which the owner responded, "That happens again and I'm calling DuPage Animal Control." My husband just stood there. The owner took my larger dog back who is, at this point, shaking uncontrollably. He comes back and is dangling this loop leash (the kind shelters use) above the small dog and our dog bites at it. At that point, the owner says, "That's it. This is over. You have to leave or I'm calling 911." He further told my husband that I should have told him about this and, "we only board pets here." My husband was dumbfounded. Again, this has never happened and we have had them groomed here in Chicago and Oregon, have boarded them in Oregon multiple times, and used to take them to doggie daycare when we could afford it. I am not saying the smaller dog has no issues, but everyone we've taken him to has been fine with him. He gets great behavior reviews from the groomers because he is sweet once he's not leash-bound with us. The owner's comments were completely uncalled for. If he felt uncomfortable, he could have said that, but to to say our loved rescue dog is not a pet? To threaten calling the police? Rediculous. We were able to get a spot at Found Chicago--- they were great. The attendant took both dogs by leash, no problems. Bent down, pet the small one as he barked at the other dogs waiting to leave (I explained the small dog's issue with leash aggression). No problem. read more

My elderly Corgi has never liked boarding in the past. Ever. But, we needed to for 3 days, and this kennel was recommended. I was impressed with the owner's questions: did she need meds, was she used to water being added to the dry food, etc. I'd explained how she had hip issues, and they said that they'd put rubber pads down for her to have proper traction. Impressed with that too. When I picked her up, she was not nervous & unhappy as she'd been in the past at other kennels. She was happy and content as I'd never seen her! Usually, she'd be frantic to leave but this time, she was calm, relaxed...as if SHE'D been on vacation too! I have found the kennel I want for MY dog. I appreciate Cedar Lane. read more

I was so impressed with Cedar Lane. Our dog is very hesitant and defensive around new people. The owners understood him and spoke his language. They were open to feeding him food that I brought from home no extra charge. The facilities were clean and affordable. They have a nice agility room for playtime to give the dogs exercise. I felt like they really cared about his well being. He was bathed and wearing a holiday bandana when I picked him up. He did not show any physical signs of stress after 10 days of boarding. We've had to board our toy poodle a few times here, and they are always super nice. The first couple of times Champ was scared to death. The last time we took him he was reluctant, but he wasn't scared to go anymore. We had some issues with shot records from switching vets. He did everything he could to help us figure out what shots Champ already had and what he still needed. I just moved here a year ago, and the new vet here did not call to check if my dog's shots were 3 yr or 1 yr. They just assumed they were 3 yr, so he was not up to date on his distemper shot. I was livid when I found out. Not only did they miss these shots from assuming he had them, they were very rude to the boarder when he called them. He recommended me to Naperville Animal Hospital, so I switched. It was a great suggestion, because I've been twice and already like them better than the previous one. read more

We have three rescue dogs ranging from age 12 yrs to 3 yrs old who have never been boarded and always went on vacation with us. My son got married this past July in California and I did not want the dogs to travel by airplane or be left alone for long periods while we were celebrating. One of our dogs was adopted from the West Suburban Humane Society and I found the link to Cedar Lane on their web page. We boarded the dogs there and had them groomed before we picked them up. Our 12 year old has a lot of warts and I've never gotten him back from grooming where he had not had at least one of his warts nicked and bleeding. Peter informed me, set an appointment with my vet and completely handled the situation. When I commented how "above and beyond duty" he was, he simply said "I take care of my dogs". Never experienced working with any Kennel before but here's my story.... My son had scheduled time to go snowboarding in Wisc. I was to deliver his 70+lb Shepherd to Cedar Lane Kennels as he had chosen them at random with no time to spare. I live in Addison and worked most of my shift at my employ with a headache that turned into a migraine. We lost a storage shed in my backyard yesterday with the incredible wind storms Chicago experienced, and then picked up the dog, Dakota, BUT forgot ALL the needed paperwork!!!! No time to turn back, and figured perhaps scanning and emailing would work. Feeling battered, beaten, sick, and upset, I arrived at Cedar Lane and was greeted by the owner Peter. He took matters in his own hands to help me out. He called my son's cell and probably got him half way down some mountain, then he contacted the dog's Dr. to get all the info that I should have provided (dummy me!!!) then tells me "you're all set". Those were great words to hear! I plan a follow up after my son picks up Dakota in a couple days as I did not see much of the facility. My greyhound is very nervous and when I boarded her at other places she wouldn't eat and came home thinner :( - but not here which puts my mind at ease while I am on vacation. We moved to the Illinois last year and began searching for a second home for our Nash. I interviewed many places, but Peter was extremely informative and very open with his facility. He toured me around. I explained the deficiency we have with our German Shepherd. His wrist was broken at birth and whoever had him never had it operated. So, our dog has special needs or "doesn't really", but it is sure nice when someone gives him a little more attention, and Peter upon hearing that our dog puts all his weight on his good paw and does better on grass, he immediately told us that he would put Nash on the grassy area to help him stand. What a great and personal gesture. This year we moved to Chesterton, Indiana (about 1 hour away) and would wouldn't think of switching to someone else. Nash loves going there. He gets out of the car quickly and runs to the office door without a leash. He knows the routine. When we went away for Thanksgiving a few weeks ago, I drove him to Peter's, dropped him off and met my husband at O'Hare. Easy! We're doing the same routine this week for Christmas! i have boarded and groomed my dogs with cedar lanes kennel. i will never go back there because the last time, my standard poodle mix returned with an infection on his snout which he got from rubbing up against his kennel's metal fence. i had requested (and cedar lanes agreed) that my two dogs be housed together since they keep one another company. when i asked the woman who returned my gashed dog what happened, she said it was just a little scrape and they treated it topically. no worries. she didn't board the dogs together because then they might eat one another's food. this was after her husband had agreed to board the dogs together. i took my dog to the vet immediately and ended up on oral antibiotics because the cut was so nasty. not only did cedar lanes disregard my request for co-boarding, they didn't inform me of any problems, and acted as though i was overreacting to my dog's wound. i wish i could post a photo of the oozing, raw, bright red wound on my black dog's nose. additionally, and not a reason for me to stop going there, but added to the issue above is worth mentioning: they don't take credit cards and have no computerized systems. it took me 45 minutes to check out my dogs the last time i was there because it takes about 10-15 minutes per person to do all the paperwork. they use index cards. its insane and if my dog had medical issues i would wonder how they kept it all straight. never again. instead i go to Belle Aire Kennels and my dogs and i are very happy. my dogs get to play with kids, share a kennel, and come home clean! read more

Several years ago I boarded my dog at this facility. My 7 year old dog was a puppy. I did not meet the owner until I picked her up. He was very unfriendly and abrupt. Oh well. I generally use my vet for grooming however, they are booked due to the holiday. I called cedar lane today for a grooming appointment. The owner answered the phone. This 7 years later. He still had her on file. He read his notes to regarding my dog to me. "She's shy". Based on that, he didn't want to groom her. That is the most ridiculous reason I could've been given! My dog may have been shy 7 years ago as a puppy now she is not. He didn't ask me any further questions. Clearly he only likes specific dogs. If I could give Cedar Lanes more than 5 stars I would! We have a 12 year old and a 7 year old German Shepherd. It has been many years since they have been boarded, and the old boarder is no longer in business (and was also very far). My 12 year old is my retired K-9 and is very focused on it just being me and him. Not only am I VERY particular with who would watch him, with his background and training, it does take a special "outsider" to know how to handle him. We needed our dogs watched because we were going out of town for 6 days. Cedar Lanes is practically in our back yard and read so many good reviews, we decided to board our dogs there. We initially did a scouting trip to look at the facility and talk to Peter. It is very clean, spacious and the quality of care is obvious. Peter (the owner) is amazing!!! We feed our dogs RAW (which is chicken, beef, etc) and Peter had no problem with this. He asked many questions to get to know our dogs, wanted to know what we expected, and we talked until everything was discussed and we were very comfortable with him. It all started when it came time for them to be boarded and Peter took my head strong 12 year old, he trotted right next to Peter with not a care in the world! I've never seen him go that easily or comfortably with someone. We agreed for 30 mins a day play time, snacks and grooming on the last day. Fast forward to pickup day. They were both groomed and placed in the grooming kennel when we came to pick them up (and Peter was right on time with having them ready). I went to get the 12 year old first, and when I called him, he was so relaxed in the kennel it took him a few to get up, then as he was headed to me he sniffed Peter in a friendly way before coming back to me! I was slightly offended he wasn't more excited to see me and was more concerned with saying bye to Peter. LOL!!! The grooming was amazing, they looked like brand new dogs, they were shedding very bad before. Peter gave us a debrief as to how they did and said they were very well behaved. So I highly recommend Peter, and believe me we are about the pickiest when it comes to care for our dogs. Between value, quality of staff and facility and the way we know our dogs were cared for, we will ALWAYS use Cedar Lanes! read more

When you have older dogs it gets tougher to find a place to board them where they will be comfortable, looked after and will have staff that will be patient with their senior needs. Cedar Lane does all of the above and more. We have boarded both of our Bichons there. My eldest was 16.5 and Molly is 11. When Hazzard (16.5) was with us and we boarded them, Peter and his staff did an amazing job. Hazzard has hip problems and the staff recognized this. I would call in to see how he was doing and they would update me telling me "well, he's moving a little slower today, so we let him take his time, helped him up", etc. The things they told me were things I knew because I did the same thing. I have to tell you it made me feel so great knowing he was in good hands. Present day: we most recently boarded Molly our 11 yr old. She had been sick on and off, since we had her groomed. We let them know so they could be aware. While we were gone, MOlly got really sick and stopped eating. Peter called to let us know and we deceided to take her to Dr. Eisenberg at All Creatures (see my all creatures review). Because of Peter, our Molly is with us today. If he had ignored the symptoms I think Molly would not be here today. Cedar Lane is a great place to go for boarding. They have a wonderful staff and their prices are great. We live in the city now but drive to Downers to take Molly here. read more

Cedar Lane Kennels, Inc. is the best for boarding and grooming our Samoyed and Hound mix. Our dogs are slightly picky about where they stay-they both came home relaxed and happy. We were so pleased with the grooming that was done on our Samoyed-I won't go anywhere else! We brought her in with a very bad coat of hair and she came home looking ready for show! We have a ten-year old blind schnauzer. We have been taking him to Cedar Lane Kennels since we adopted him five years ago. Cedar Lane is not flashy, but their kennels are ample and their care has been superb. Both Peter and Susan have always been friendly and kind to our dog and to both of us. Our confidence in the personal attention that Cedar Lane provides reduces a lot of stress for us when we have to leave our dog behind. We know that when there are medicines or special diet issues they'll be handled with care. To top it all off the pricing at Cedar Lane is very fair.
