In my 25+ years in Iowa City-- I can count on my fingers how many times I've been to a CR Kernels game. I personally don't see the draw as it's a A team for the Minnesota Twins. It's not super awesome baseball to watch and as an Iowa City resident, the half hour drive there and then back isn't worth it if you intend to have a drink or two. I went to a Friday night game in August. My partner had a work function and while the people I got to hang with were great and seeing so many littles out at the ballpark warmed my heart-- the Miller Mezzanine fell flat for me. It is a private group area down the first-base line, above the concourse. (It was super tricky to find if you haven't a clue where it is, luckily the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.) There was a plethora of seating. From round banquet tables to bar seating to stadium seating. The view was great of both the game and the Cedar Rapids skyline. This spot could accommodate 75+. (But be warned-- foul balls come in hot here! Have your head on a swivel or bring a glove.) Ballpark food isn't known to be gourmet by any means but for $40 a ticket-- you'd think the buffet would have been a bit better? It featured hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, steakhouse potato salad and potato chips. Honestly, had they just had nachos with that super processed pump cheese-- I'd have been a happy camper. The beer selection had something for everyone. Overall, the group options to watch the Kernels need a bit of a revamp to get folks out to Veteran's Memorial Stadium. Visited for Coe College baseball post season tourney, maybe I was just in a good mood seeing boys my age in uniform, but thank you to this stadium for a great day. The kind staff supported my brother in his 9-9-9 challenge (completed 9 beers, 9 hotdogs in 9 innings) but even if you weren't buzzed off of Busch it's just a cool place. Decided to stop here while in town for my sons travel baseball tournament. Friday night was buy 1 get 1 16oz beers and soda. They offer the typical ballpark food hotdogs, burgers, popcorn, nachos, etc.. There's a lot of fan interactions with a decent sized area where kids could go to catch a ball from the players and then take it to guest services to get a free item I believe they were exchanging balls for ice cream. The ticket prices were not expensive. I believe we paid 11$ per ticket for a large group of about 20 people. We had a fun time and purchased items from the team store, if your a baseball fan, then i would definitely recommend attending a game. read more

The Kernels hadn't really been on our radar as something to do until recently and ever since Matt had been nagging me to go to a game. On our first attempt, we attended a work outing in the mezzanine area that got rained out after the 1st inning. Super disappointing. (Normally if the game is rained out, ticket holders are able to return for the rescheduled game. But they took our tickets when we entered the mezzanine.) This area has a great view from right field and groups can enjoy complimentary food and beverage throughout the game. Luckily, the other day I won a set of tickets from work and it turned out to be a beautiful evening so we were able to enjoy the entire game. The stadium is super clean and comfortable. Walking around the concessions area seems a little crowded but sitting never seems as full. (Typical minor leagues game.) There's plenty of free parking around the stadium, even after the game has started, and getting out isn't an absolute nightmare especially because the crowds clear out as the game goes on. Concession stand pricing is inflated as usual, but they seem to offer specials on a regular basis. Tickets are super affordable. All around it's a great option for cheap, wholesome fun! read more

It was my husband's idea to come here memorial weekend for a Kernels game. We arrived from Burnsville, MN some 4 hours away. I also followed the Kernels on Instagram and Facebook. Saturday night was Star Wars socks giveaway and Star Wars theme night with costumed characters. Fun if you follow Star Wars. We had seats right behind the visitor dugout. Not to shabby for $12 in advance. We came back the following day at 2:00 for afternoon game. Such a friendly team. They beat the Peoria Chiefs twice. read more

Single A for Minnesota Twins. Decided last minute to take fam to a baseball game. Usually walk up and purchase seats behind home plate. Combination of a beautiful summer evening plus Friday night left first two priority sections sold out, leaving plaza or grass seating. Opted for plaza, which are still pretty decent seats. Approx 30 feet from first base. Typical ball park food (popcorn, peanuts, candy, burgers, hotdogs, chicken strips, pop, beer). Staff does nice job keeping facilities kept up and clean. Great place for a date, family night, or friends to catch a ball game. read more

Some of the best entertainment you can get for $10 in CR! I've been to 2-3 dozen baseball games over the past few years (including having worked here one summer) and it truly is a lot of fun. They have 'promo' nights during every home game; Star Wars Night, Jimmy Buffett Night, Armed Forces Night, College Night, Dollar Monday's, Twins Tuesday's Thirsty Thursday's, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Night, Hawkeye Sports Night, Daddy-Daughter Night and more. Post-game fireworks are plentiful after home games as well. Lots of food options and various seating from $7-$15/ticket. If you want to go 'all-out' you can even rent a suite. Catching a baseball game at Kernel's Stadium is one of the many perfect ways to soak up a summer evening in Iowa. So far I've only ever sat in the group seating area at the end of the first base line. Despite being at a less desirable angle to watch the game, I've never had a hard time seeing all of the plays - one of the perks of a smaller stadium! The stadium itself is pretty new and overall really nice, which is a nice surprise. I love love love that the stadium carries brews from local Millstream Brewery on site, as well as several other delicious (though not local) craft brews like Surly and Bell's. So what's missing? I really wish the food options were better at this stadium. They carry the classics and even a veggie burger, but nothing jaw-droppingly delicious. I'm craving some locally-grown sweet corn, gourmet popcorn from one of the many local popcorn shops, and brats straight from a local farmer or Sausage Foundry meats. read more

Nothing to do here except watch baseball and eat hotdogs (one star for each). Food is typical sports event junk food. I've been here a few times with my kids for school sponsored nights. The stadium is pretty new, still clean and in good shape. They usually have thursday night $1 beer night, and other specials through out the week, this is always a great place to take your kids, family, or friends. They have lawn seating, I think it's a good place for kids to sit with there parents babysitters brothers or sisters! Great activity for kids. Great baseball atmosphere for adults. Stadium seems about 10-20 years old and it was well designed. Every seat is absolutely awesome. Maybe that's standard in minor league baseball, but I can't imagine a much better ballpark. Good value. Not too many between innings crap. There's some, but it's not overdone. Just a quality summertime activity. If I lived in Cedar Rapids, I would go frequently. read more

Convenient and easy to get to from out of town. Prices are in line for Midwest League. One thing that stands out to me is the convienent concessions and bathrooms, there are a lot of them so you dont have far to go and you can watch the game if you do have to wait in line at a concession stand. Lots of blaring commercials between inninings on video scoreboard but you get that pretty much at every ballpark with a video screen. read more
