Drove a little over 7.5 hours (traffic sucked in Seattle) to get here. It was late and was looking for some food and we were told that the Mallard Lounge was still serving food, it was only 10pm. Located in the Fairmont Hotel, we heard live music playing and much to our surprised, it was coming from the Mallard Lounge. Was just one guy playing guitar/harmonica and singing. Wasn't too loud and was able to have a conversation without yelling. Server said we could sit anywhere so we sat in some comfy chairs and ordered some beers and a Chorizo Pizza. I'll admit, I'm boring when it comes to pizza. This pizza was good but it's something I typically wouldn't order. Do people really enjoy Arugula on their pizza?? It sits inside the Fairmont hotel, but you feel as though you are inside a Ralph Lauren inspired lounge. The staff is attentive, welcoming, and know their way around the menu. We got the sea to sky cocktail (a delicious work of art), an old fashion (that came with a show) and lastly golden hour (it'll leave you warm and relaxed). First of all this is in the Fairmont Hotel, so this is your starting point... I came in for a quick beer, and stayed for lunch.. This place was fantastic, the service was perfect, the food was just fabulous. Kit the bartender was really good, and he is from the UK. During the day, it is sort of a causal place, but as it gets closer to dinner, I think a better dressed crowed will appear. The prices were not too bad, considering the neighborhood. This is the lounge at the Fairmont Château Whistler. It's beautifully decorated inside and has a great outdoor patio. Every night there is live music from 5-7 and 8-11. We truly enjoyed sipping our cocktails and listening to the music. Their Old Fashioned is so good and even comes with a surprise presentation. The food was okay. Caesar salad was lacking flavor and the cauliflower was fried so much it was burnt. We still ate everything though! Service was fantastic. Friendly and fast. read more

We were hungry during the in-between hours of lunch and dinner, and came here at the bar where they serve food and drinks we sat at the bar enjoying the live singing and great food. Went here on a Friday for their happy hour/Friday specials. Ordered their bao dish, it comes with 3 and is very filling. I'd skip on their corn dogs because it's just pogo brand haha. Was still good with the sauce they made. They have good coconut shrimp as well. I don't like duck but they offered duck wings that my brother enjoyed. Drinks are a great price. They offered wine, lime margarita and beer for reasonable prices. The food dishes during this time were $9 from 5-7. Check out my pictures so see the menu! The Mallard Lounge is a fun place to hang out after a day of skiing or hiking. A warm vibrancy immumlates there and i was surprised to see so many hip looking young people there. Great cocktails and the place was packed for Fairmont Fridays. This is the best time to get the most bang for your buck. We sampled the roasted cauliflower, coconut shrimp, pulled pork bao, and duck wings. The only thing that was disappointing was the cauliflower. Tiny portion and for 8 bucks not worth it. Also, not very flavourful. It was advertised as za'tar flavoured but there was a lack of that in the dish. Coconut shirmp were perfectly cooked and had sweetness in every bite. The yuzu aoli could have had more yuzu flavours to really pop it. Duck wings were flavourful and rich. The tender meat just fell off the bowl and the ginger/lime sauce was a nice addition. The acidity cut into the richness of the meat. However our favourite dish was the bao. Beautiful fluffy buns which encased pulled pork. So delicious. We finished off with coconut lime cake. It was good, but tasted a little commercial. Margeritas were on special and well made. We may have had a few. Great vibe. Great price (for Fridays anyway). Great food. And great drinks. So disappointed!! We had a group of 6 and have been to the Fairmont Whistler before. We ordered Nachos & fries which took 45 minutes to arrive. They came completely cold and looked like they had been sitting out for a long time. Then we had a steak sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, and soups. All of it was absolutely awful. The soup was inedible and looked like day old food had been made into a stew, really gross! Wouldn't recommend and will never return. Just a fantastic little high end lounge after skiing! Was staying at the hotel and the concierge recommended the fish n chips here as the best in town. That was a challenge I was willing to accept. Glad I did. Because the fish in the chips was really really good. Great batter. Generously portioned. Fresh fish. and a great dipping sauce too! The fries were very good as well. Add a local beer, friendly service, cozy seats, and live entertainment and this place hits it all. If you're around this area, this is the apres-ski lounge you are looking for. Just don't pay attention to the prices. Like the slopes at Whistler, they're a bit steep. read more

Sadly, our former "go to" lunch spot has gone downhill. It was never cheap, but if you accepted the price point, you were treated to impecabble service and didn't get nickeled and dimed from there on. Over my last 2 visits I had a manager tell me that their margins were too thin to get me an extra ramekin of Jus for a prime rib dip this summer (claiming it cost $2-3 to make each one - note they are smaller than every other place in town that serves a dip sandwich to begin with) and arguing with me over the charge (this is after about 10+ years of having servers gladly get me whatever small accompaniment I needed). I didn't have cheese or horseradish on it - the costs were a wash. Why create a bad customer service experience over it. I encouraged them to find a solution to the small Jus size. On college weekend/MLK 2020, I discovered they found a solution: the dip sandwich is now much smaller (maybe a credit card and a half for each side of the roll?). Considering this is the Fairmont lounge essentially, this is strikes me as an embarassing turn for how they treat customers in the lounge. I do still think they make fantastic drinks, but if you're going to actually argue with me over Jus when I just ordered two $20 drinks, there are plenty of other good bars and restaurants in Whistler I'd rather spend my money at. read more

The Mallard Lounge is the lobby lounge at Fairmont Chateau Whistler, which serves everything from oriental peking duck spring rolls to bar-style nachos! There's a huge selection of food and drinks available and the staff are extremely friendly so you'll meet all sorts of people (and dogs) here! My favourite dish was actually the Nachos Grande, which was loaded with tons of high-quality cheese, tomatos, onions and of course, salsa guacamole and sour cream on the side. Their truffle fries are excellent as well while their flatbreads were just good/average. My mojito was made very well but was quite expensive ($16). I would say that the majority of their mixed drinks and wines by the glass were in the $16-$19 range while they had a wide selection of fancier alcohols by the bottle such as Dom Perignon and Moet. If you want to relax in a comfortable and unpretentious lounge, The Mallard is right for you! read more

The Mallard Lounge is the Fairmont's elegant cocktail lounge and restaurant. I stopped by the luxury hotel and felt like having something fancy to eat. Despite the name and to my disappointment, I didn't find any duck on the menu. I ordered an old fashioned ($22, as it was made with top shelf whiskey), and it was strong and presented elegantly with some almonds and cashews. The menu was large, but after splurging for the cocktail, I went for the inexpensive beef stew ($26). It was served in a cast iron pot, and came with garlic focaccia. It was excellent, with carrots and onions that were perfectly caramelized but not over cooked. The bottom of the pot was lined with some starchy material - looked like mashed potatoes, but tasted like grits or maybe over cooked couscous. In any case, it was tasty and went nicely with the beef. Service is friendly and impeccable, and overall it was an elegant spot to splurge for lunch. read more

Must be a borderline Genius to call it Mallard Duck lounge and then proceed to remove the central theme of the lounge in entirety. Replace it with items on sale at the shops. God damned it boys. Are you people running this place like Marriott? Fairmont should consider changing the name to silly goose bar.and have it filled with Fairmont executives. Drinks are generally expensive ( mostly $20 plus for mixed drinks); beer is tolerably priced. Not sure why the $8 'craft beer' was rung in as $10, but we didn't ask. We enjoyed the trout cake appetizer and Andrew thoughtfully had our winter salad split for us. Only complaint about the salad was the 'added protein' which was the absolute driest chicken breast imaginable. Rest of the staff were fine although the loud cleaning up of the bar started well before 9:30 pm, when the music finished. Still a very pleasant evening and we would happily return. How do you burn yam fries? Better yet, how are they allowed to be plated and served up? Well that's what we got. If you are looking for a classic beef dip, don't order the slow roasted prime rib dip sandwich. The chef is trying to put a spin on the classic by adding Monterey Jack cheese, onions and sandwiching it in a ciabatta bun. All misfires. Also the beef, I'm quite certain, is not prime rib, but rather well done roast beef, all well done grey, not prime rib pink. The ciabatta is too much bread and too dense, give me a plain old white bread bun with a nice light crust like a mini baguette. The cheese and onions don't belong in the sandwich. And the dip which is a third of the whole deal, was a saucy, salty dark concoction, not the clarified prime rib drippings. It was served up (after they forgot to include it with the plate) in a small sauce container which made it difficult, almost impossible, to dip the sandwich. All quite disappointing. Had it been the simple classic beef dip, it would have been good (Whistler) value with the good size bowl of soup that came with it (an optional choice which could have been fries or slaw). Too bad as the Mallard Lounge is a nice place with good live music (that's 2 of my 3 stars). Just be careful what you order and turn back anything that doesn't meet up with expectations. read more

Sure, the Mallard Lounge is a gorgeous bar located in the equally as gorgeous Fairmont Resort Whistler, but the prices are through the roof! I sat down to have a drink with my friend, and we promptly stood back up again and left. The cheapest drink was $15!! And there was nothing on the menu worth that price. The $15 drink was a pear cosmopolitan. Something I could make at home for about a buck! I'm sure this bar is great for people who have cash to burn, but that's not me and these types of prices make me angry (if you couldn't already tell). I have heard that the drinks here are very good, but I have better things to spend my hard earned cash on. Only come here if you're prepared to spend BIG on minimal booze. read more

Great lounge in Whistler to escape the rif raf. High end drinks, we enjoyed Louis the 13th cognac, which is hard to find with the correct glasses. I paid $15 for a Rob Roy here and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Sumptuously decorated, the Mallard oozes sophistication. When my friend and I went we were the youngest people there by at least twenty years. I great break from the usual Whistler scene. The Rob Roy Perfects we had are the standard I hold all subsequent Rob Roys to. After talking with the bartender, we learned that he and most of the people who work there have lived in Whistler for over five years and have bar tended much longer. This is not for the budget traveler - but that should be evident from its location inside the Chateau Fairmont - but for those who have money to throw around, I can think of no better place to throw it. read more
