Lovely lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We got there a few minutes before they opened and good thing. The place was packed within 15 minutes. We sat at a comfy booth in front of the bar. The owner was behind the bar serving drinks. Our server was very nice and she took our orders quickly. We ordered the Beyond Wrap, Tofu lettuce wraps, and a Beyond burger. My friend also ordered the Samosas. Yum! The owner came by our table and told us his aunt makes the delish samosas (Thanks, Auntie!). We asked about the name of the restaurant and he said he "shifts" the menu around every few months. Clever! I was a little nervous because the menu was large, but the food was amazing, every dish was innovative and delicious. We decided to go with a small salad (the spinach, arugula, cranberry and orange one). Our server, Danielle, was really helpful in choosing a selection of tapas. We had Bun Cha with pork meatballs, pankados, chicken karaage bahn mi flat bread, and tiramisu. Hard to pick a favorite because they were all uniquely special, but the pankados (breaded avocado with house made kimchi is one that makes me sorry to live so far from this restaurant! I came here for an early dinner, 4+ pm and only a few tables were taken. But it sure got busy after 530 pm. So reservations are highly recommended if you are dining later in the day. The kitchen is also busy with people doing take out. I decided to get the spicy tuna roll, bourbon bbq wings and a Bellini. They were all good. I loved the wings! The bourbon bbq sauce gave a nice flavor. They were also halal chicken. The spicy tuna roll was unexpected. I didn't know it would be fried. It was still nice but not my favorite. We love shift kitchen; every time I'm there I never have a bad experience. Our waitress was the only one working on bar and serving tables and she still killed it. We had the mojito and a lime margarita with an order of pankados to share. The inside looks completely different with the new decor but it's beautiful! Much needed touches and a nice new patio too. Our visit to Sechelt before travel restrictions included a lunch at Shift Kitchen & Bar. A little small inside but on off hours it was pretty mellow and covid precautions were met. We ordered the Meatball appy $14 (a seasonal feature) and it was delicious! A juicy, meaty pork and veal meatball served on top of a crispy filone bread, drizzled with marinara and mozzarella cheese. Carbs and protein delight! We also shared a plate of Linguine Alfredo $16 House-made Alfredo sauce, bacon, chives, parsley, Asiago cheese on top of al dente pasta. Very creamy, rich and satisfying! Also, to add on the yumminess, the crispy garlic bread was one of the best I had! Garlic and butter and a perfect chewy, toasted baguette! A cozy spot with great ambiance. We were lucky to get in quickly on a Monday evening when a lot of restaurants in Sechelt are closed. I was pleased to see that the listing for the restaurant specified that they are LGBTQ+ friendly and specifically friendly to trans people. The staff warned us that they were running behind on food and there was a sign outside looking for kitchen staff. But drinks were quick. I had the Frazzled Prawns and it was delicious. After checking to see if the outdoor tables were full she let me know that they had a 4-top available and that they would save it for us. This is the 2nd time having dinner here and both times we've been happy with the food, service and ambience. It's a small place so if you come without a reso or a group over 4 people, expect to wait awhile! We've had burgers and bowls here and so far so good. The servers seem pretty inexperienced but they make up for it by being friendly and honest when they're not sure of something. They try hard and do their best, which is enough for us! We've never had a problem with long waits to get our orders taken, drinks, or food... so as long as you make a reso, the rest is smooth. They have a really diverse menu and everything we had (a burger and vegetarian moussaka) were delicious and comparable to more expensive spots in downtown Vancouver. The staff was friendly and allowed to us to move to a booth when the sun started blinding us on the high top table. If I had more time in the area, I'd definitely come here more than once. read more

Obviously, this is the current place in Sechelt! While waiting, we ordered an appy of onion rings. Delicious. But by then we were hungry) we ordered burgers: a California for me, classics (I think) for them, but with a lettuce "bun" for my sister. (kudos, btw) All of these were quite good. We tried the chips& guacamole, aloha and black & blue burger. The guacamole was lacking flavor, that we had to use the lime from one of our drinks to give it a little zest. The burger patties were dry while the fries tasted like it was frozen then refried. The alcoholic drinks were good especially the adult lemonade. The setting was cozy and the restaurant is clean. So glad we stopped in. After a lovely hike at Smuggler Cove we were all feeling a little hangry. Not being from the area we started searching for some options. We stumbled upon Shift while driving. It doesn't look like much on the exterior, but inside we were greeted by warm and friendly staff. It turned out to be happy hour. Bottled beer was 3.50/wine 2 dollars off as well as some other specials. My husband had the aloha burger and I had the black and blue. These were positively delicious. I don't normally eat fries, but they were crispy and well seasoned. Our server Jessica was really friendly. The guys decided to have cheesecakes for dessert. So glad we got to have extra spoons. Their new weekend brunch is pretty great. I had the vegetarian bowl with poached eggs. The hollandaise sauce was tangy and a bit of a change from the typical type. The potatoes were nice and crunchy and went great with the hollandaise sauce all over them. Atmosphere could potentially be really fun at this little pub/restaurant, but...I hate to say this, but the young wait staff stood around socializing with one another in the walkways, right near the tables the entire time, with their friends dropping in to visit etc, which made the atmosphere not as good as it could be. By far the best burgers I have ever had!! I had the exotic mushroom burger and subbed the bleu cheese for Swiss. Oh my gosh!!!! So delicious! The portion size was perfect. I got gravy on the side for my fries but the fries were delicious on their own! I also snagged a taste of my daughters veggie burger and my husbands black and bleu burger. I find it hard to believe that I've not yet rated Shift, since I come here quite frequently. That being the case, I'll go out on a limb and suggest that Shift has the best burgers in town. Also, have you ever tried a deep fried dill pickle? Shift has the best onion rings in town, too. And their Caesars are killer. My favourite? The one with the onion ring, fried pickle and hard boiled egg. Yes. In a Caesar. Shift also has Tin Hat IPA on tap and a nice pitcher of this beer is lovely with a burger. Shift's basic green salad is amazingly good, with soft goat cheese and dried cranberries and that addictive raspberry vinaigrette dressing. My friends like their soft tacos and that's great for them. But I tend to order things that I do not make myself and that, my friends, is a burger. Shift fits the bill. They are almost always busy, it's hard to get a table, and the place is rowdy and loud. It's not a place for a romantic outing. It's a great place for drinks and finger food tho. read more

Yum! Came for the burgers on a chilly Monday night after thrashing around on the beautiful, but techical wet and slippery Sechelt mtn bike trails.
