If you are looking for a nice, spacious place to stay in Hillsboro, look no further than this awesome, Japanese-inspired hotel. Unlike the typically small hotel rooms in Japan, the accommodations here are wonderfully large. Each room features a walk-in shower, a separate soaking tub, a coffee maker, a small refrigerator, and a Japanese-style bidet toilet (or washlet) that will make you want to buy one for your own home. Near the ground floor elevators, you will find complimentary coffee and lemon water. From the moment you walk through the black entrance doors, the front desk staff greets you with warmth and friendliness. Around the corner you will find a self-service store that sells gifts, souvenirs, Japanese apparel, drinks, and snacks at very reasonable prices--reminiscent of actual retail rates in Japan rather than standard inflated US hotel prices. They even sell swimwear in case you forgot yours. The property features separate men's and women's indoor Onsen-style baths where swimsuits are optional (unlike in Japan, where they are strictly prohibited). Please note that guests must be at least 14 years old to enter the baths, a departure from traditional Japanese onsens which allow younger children with parents. The grounds are beautiful, boasting a lovely indoor koi pond and stunning Japanese landscaping in the backside which you can see from the restaurant. For dining, the on-site restaurant, Waterfalls, serves an excellent mix of Japanese and American cuisine, and their Sake bar offers a fantastic variety of sakes where you can purchase by the glass, flask or purchase the bottle. First time in Oregon was there to celebrate my granddaughter's high-school graduation. Hotel was off the beaten path which I liked. Everyone was friendly and engaging, from management to wait staff, room staff. Enjoyed the food at the Waterfall Restaurant downstairs, enjoyed the food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Used the fitness room but didn't get to the Onsen. We Ubered to get to most of our destinations, it was centrally located enough that the Uber was always 7-5 minutes away. Price was a lot cheaper than Hawaii Hotels, would definitely recommend if in the Hillsboro area. My youngest granddaughter graduates next year so we know where we're staying next year, God willing read more

The good: the rooms are very clean. The bathroom was lovely; sparkling clean, good water pressure, deluxe shower/tub combo. The Onsen baths are great. The hotel is in a very quiet location, and with great access to Hwy 26 to the coast. However. The black, utilitarian front entrance has no windows at eye level; it feels like you're walking at the back garage door. The sake bar and the outdoor pool were both closed. For two adults, 3-night stay, we got ONE washcloth. Hotel policy says room refresh is every other day and they NEVER DID IT. We checked with housekeeping on our way out on day three, double checked that we'd get clean linens ("Oh yes! No problem!"), made sure our towels were all in one spot... and came back 11 hours later to the same sheets and wet linens that we had left. The front desk gave us OLD LINENS - clean, but threadbare and NOT the same quality as what we started with, and no fresh bed linens. The bed had no top sheet; just a light covered duvet. Finally, there isn't enough parking; we parked on the street and had to walk in from half a block away two nights in a row. Would I stay again? Maybe. Not on a weekend, definitely not during the summer rush season. And if I do, I'll pack extra towels and washcloths. read more

Fantastic place!! Staff is kind, lobby is clean. Room was quite nice, unfortunately our window was impossible to open despite having the handle to open it. The shower with a soaking tub was awesome, but you have to step all the way in to turn the water on, and then you have to dodge it on your way out. The door had a pretty bad leak at the bottom too, the typical leak you see with glass shower doors. Leaked out of the door and made a beeline for the carpet. We did not try the onsen. The restaurant was the highlight, *amazing* food and cool staff. I'd go back for the food alone. I ordered a wagyu filet for dinner and grilled salmon for breakfast. A young blonde man helped us, I asked for the name of the Japanese sauce and he wrote it down and handed me the ingredient list. Awesome guy, he deserves a raise. read more

The hotel was awesome! Good service, clean spacious rooms and loved the restaurant, sake bar and Onsen bath. We only have one suggestion for improvement...the ice situation is bad. We love ice and they happily brought us a container of it, but the cooler of ice downstairs is inadequate and icky. It is frozen over in layers and the scoop "bucket" is filled with melted ice. It wasn't practical or sanitary. Otherwise this hotel is perfect and we will come again!!! read more

Stayed here with my three year old and we loved the place. It was so calm and serene. Parking was easy and never an issue and it's right near the main highway. We really loved the entire ambience of the place. I never got to use the spa bathing area because I couldn't leave my child alone but the bathtub shower combo in the room was where it was at. The bed was extremely comfortable and the ac worked perfectly. At the price point that's advertised you get more than what you expect. read more

Disappointed. Checked in, gave me a key doesn't work so I had to come down to fix it. Happy hour, I had to wait for 10 min to sit at the bar (only one person was working entire floor) Hot spring? A 2feet pool filled with warm water. I won't call this onset Japanese style. Sake bar was closed and they no longer serve Japanese style breakfast. No bath robe or slippers in the room. Cedartree Hotel in Hillsboro was a breath of fresh air. Totally love the Japanese owned hotel. I'm told it is about 3 years old...so everything is spotless, high quality and well-tended. I particularly love the Koi pond in the lobby. When was the last time you saw that? The rooms were comfy, amazing tub/shower area. AC works great. There were only 2 pillows on the King bed...so we had to ask for another. The pillows could have been better, but they were acceptable. The large Japanese bath pools were kept at 102 degrees. One for men, one for women. Locker areas stocked with plenty of towels, showers and high-quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash. My only surprise based on the listing was that these are not "hot springs". They are shallow, warm bath soaking pools. I think the misrepresentation is due to language/translation difficulties. They are in the process of building a nice size outdoor Japanese bath which will be co-ed. Will be back when that opens for sure! Breakfast was delicious. Don't miss one of their made to order omelets! The sausage side was much better than the ham. The cost of breakfast is not included...but overall, the stay was a good value. What a gem hidden in plain sight!! We were anxiously waiting for it to open and it was well worth the wait :) It is very clean, nice rooms, and of course the Japanese style bath!! The restaurant just opened tonight and has a few course menu options (we weren't sure when they were going to open so we planned to eat somewhere nearby) but the menu looked great :) They JUST opened so I think I saw only one more family, and the bath was to myself which is super nice! An outdoor bath area is under construction so once that is available I'm sure it will be even better!! They have a little shop in the lobby that sells some cup noodles and beer (for an actual reasonable price!) And his response was "no, actually I haven't, I mean, I've been to Japan a few times myself so..." So what is that supposed to mean, you're better than me cause you've been to japan, or you're better than the bath you have at your own hotel..?? Feel how you want but that kind of made me feel odd as why would you say that to a customer, idk I'm sure he didn't mean it in a bad way, but it made me feel uncomfortable. When my family and I arrived (3 guests total), neither of the room key scanners were working at the front desk, so we had to wait around for staff to figure out the situation. We learned at that time that the hotel had been open since November 2023. While we were waiting, we overheard a disgruntled customer complaining about no hot water in her room and demanding to be compensated. We waited for about 30 minutes, but our other family members in Oregon were waiting for us, so eventually we had to tell the front desk that we'd deal with the key cards later when we returned from our scheduled family time. When we got to the room, they only had two sets of towels ready for us, even though they new our reservation was for three. The bathtub had hair in it also, so I do not know if it was ever cleaned. The next morning (Sunday), we went to the onsen (spa/pool) which was nice; however, the outside space was closed for construction. We were disappointed. Monday morning, my 85-year-old aunt tried taking a shower in our room, but we did not have hot water in the sink or shower. It was her birthday, so it was a disappointing way to start off her day of celebrating. My mother and I went downstairs to inform the front desk and planned on using the onsen to bathe. My aunt did not want to join us because she walks with a cane and has hip and knee issues, so the trek down to the 1st floor would have been taxing for her. The onsen was closed for construction, but the front desk personnel allowed us to use it for 10 minutes before the contractors were scheduled to come at 7am. Thankfully, the onsen had hot water. Upon check-out, I was prepared to ask staff what form of compensation they would offer since our room, and other's rooms, were impacted by the hot water issues. I would have been happy if they offered a free night in the future, so they could make-up for the inconvenience. The front desk staff beat me to it, and instead offered each of us one beverage or snack from the gift store. I was shocked and insulted at the level of disrespect. When I go to a hotel, I expect the room and bathroom to be clean, and for there to be hot water at the bare minimum. The fact that my family left with one Diet Coke and two bags of chips should be an embarrassment to Cedar Tree Hotels. I wish I didn't have to leave a poor review, but I was thoroughly disappointed with how this was handled. If you want hot water and to feel valued as a customer, go somewhere else. read more

Bad news 1st. No hot water In room(not even warm water) what good is a deep soaking tub with no hot water(unless you like cold plunges) & TV would not turn on. They gave us a new room with the exact same issues. The front desk said they are still working out the kinks as they are new. Went to Waterfalls for dinner & it took over an hour to get served. Friendly staff. Clean and tidy rooms. They just opened for about two months, everything is brand new. Comfortable and well lit with soft lighting. Bathroom is amazing. The bathtub is set inside the shower, and the rain shower head is separate from the tub. The toilet is a full Japanese toilet with all the buttons. But don't worry. There are instructions. Great amenities. The hotel has an onsen - communal tub. One con, at the moment, I wish that the restaurant is open for more days for dinner. read more

Being from Japan and living in Oregon, I was interested in trying this Japanese style hotel with onsen style public bath. So glad I tried this place. So cozy inside the building with Japanese garden outside. Public bath was so relaxing. They are still building outdoor bath. went to their restaurant for dinner in december. disclaimer, i hope things have improved since ive visited! we went to celebrate my mothers 100th birthday (in memoriam) but were extremely disappointed. the only thing good about the experience was the food itself - which was spectacular. the bartender was also our server, it seemed he was the only one there except for another staff member in the back seemingly unoccupied. no one checked on us through the entire experience, and the entrees took easily 45 minutes to come to us, and another 20 or so to get dessert. our bill was over $250, which would've been fine if we experienced service that was worth that price. after this awful experience, we will never go again. i hope other people have better experiences than we did. read more

Loved our stay. Quiet, pretty hotel right off 26. Nothing within walking distance but many food, drink and things to do options within a couple miles. We appreciated the Japanese touches. The room was smallish but the bathroom was large with la ge walk in shower and huge soaking tub. The onsen baths are on the first floor. It was great for a soak but shallower (2') than I expected. The onsen are open early (5 am) and late (midnight) but not midday (10-4) which probably aligns with usage for most people Didn't get a chance to eat or drink there maybe next time. I stayed there when they had just opened, so it was tranquil inside, but looking at the small pond with koi fish in the lobby calmed me down. Free delicious coffee is provided in the elevator on the first floor every morning. As soon as you enter the room, there is a box to put your room key in, which reminds me of business hotels in Japan. Everything was spotless, especially the bathtub, which was as deep as a Japanese one; I really loved it! Bring some bath salts and enjoy your relaxing bath time! The Japanese sake bar attached to the restaurant on the first floor has a very tasteful structure, and the owner's (Japanese!) taste is utilized in every corner.
