I created this Yelp account just to review Celebration Cinema North, and as a Grand Rapids local and gold member who comes here every week, I think that says a lot. This was my childhood theater and it still holds up today -- and honestly, it's only gotten better over time. One of the biggest perks: it tends to be less crowded compared to other spots in town, which makes the experience feel more relaxed and personal. A few pro tips: Skip ordering tickets online; you'll get hit with fees (yes, even an online fee). Just buy in person and save a few bucks -- trust me. The previews are always 15 minutes. So if your movie starts at 4:00, you can stroll in around 4:15 and still catch the opening scene. Concession prices are steep, but remember that's where theaters actually make money, so I don't hold it against them. About the staff: the bartenders are usually around 21, so don't be surprised if they enforce a strict two-drink limit or look unimpressed by a standard tip. The concession stand is mostly staffed by high schoolers who are generally super polite and trying their best -- be patient, it's often their first job. As for the theater itself: the seats are always clean, the occasional squeaky chair happens but it's rare, and they keep it pleasantly cool (which I actually love). This is the theatre that's closest to my house, and the one I visited most prior to Studio Park opening downtown. It's still a go-to for us when we need a movie theatre popcorn fix or want to catch a movie, since this larger theatre has more showtimes and more movie options than Studio Park. Plus, the huge free parking lot is great. They recently upgraded their theatres at North to have the heated recliners, which is the main reason I loved going to Studio Park downtown. We recently stopped in to purchase a discounted popcorn bucket. The employees at any Celebration location are always super kind and friendly. Celebration prides itself on their "celebrated service" and you can really tell. I like Celebration because they have a great rewards program that you can access just by giving them your phone number (no need to have the little card on your keychain, which I always forget about anyway). We got $5 off the bucket from a reward on my account. You earn 10 points for every $1 spent on qualifying purchases at Celebration Cinema, and 500 points = $5 voucher valid on qualifying purchases at Celebration Cinema. This theatre is pretty big and they have a bar and some attached restaurants as well as local options nearby. Only one concession stand is ever open lately but the lines move quickly and efficiently. They do cheap tickets on Tuesdays and matinee showings are $10. You can reserve tickets online ahead of time and all seats are assigned. I love this local theatre option! read more

The best theater on the north side of Grand Rapids, in my opinion. It's expensive, but you only feel cheated until you get inside and watch the movie. Popcorn is tasty pop is fizz-ilicious, and the theater is clean. I have not been to a movie since winter but was pleasantly surprised by new seats. They have, at least today, combined ticket sales and concessions. The combined purchases leads to a WTF moment. Cost of a single ticket, popcorn, pop, and Mike and Ike's cost north of $33! Never seemed so high when divided. Prepare yourself for political commercials while you're waiting. read more

The seats are so cramped!! Screen is fine, sound is fine, but oh my Lord why did they pack the seats in like sardines? I drove through a snow storm from Lansing to see Becoming Led Zeppelin on opening weekend, because for some inexplicable reason it isn't showing on the IMAX here. Lansing's Celebration IMAX has luxurious seats -- they could use some new upholstery ,but they recline, in fact they go practically completely horizontal if you're into that, and they even have an option to heat the back for those cold winter days. But more importantly to me, the seats are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel like you are crowding a stranger next to you. AND the aisles are big and wide, meaning you can get up and go the bathroom or concessions or whatever without really disturbing anyone. This Grand Rapids IMAX felt like being in a small black box theater by comparison. Because the snow storm was worse than I realized, and (again, inexplicably) MDOT was not salting the highway yet, I got there a little late. I had reserved a seat well in advance -- dead center. Which meant a whole line of people had to STAND UP to let me past, and it was still so cramped that I nearly lost balance and scared the hell out of somebody in the next row when I grabbed onto their chair to balance myself. Mortifying embarrassment. And their chairs aren't recliners, but instead fixed in place with a kind of free suspension (not sure what you call it, but if you lean back, the chair does lean back with you, up to a point). So I actually pulled somebody back in their chair probably three or four inches and they gave me a confused and angry look. I don't blame them. I felt like the biggest chump ever, but jeez, I have never been to an IMAX that packed the seats so darn close together. Who designed this? I guess they are trying to squeeze as much $$$ out of the space as possible. So that was my first and last time ever visiting the GR Celebration IMAX. Lansing may not have a whole lot else going for it, but at least we have a first class IMAX theater! read more

Went to See the Dune movie with my father and while the movie itself was amazing in IMAX, it was so hard to watch with how almost unbearably loud out was. It was almost difficult to make out what was being said. I thought the audio was going to mellow out after the previews but I was wrong. It felt like someone amped up the bass and ignored everything else. Maybe it's time for this place to invest in a new sound system. It has been a few years. read more

My husband and I each purchased Celebration Cinema's VIP membership and we go to this cinema quite a bit. With the VIP membership we are able to see three movies (IMAX included) each week. The membership costs 19.95 each month and is totally worth it. We only need to see two movies a month to get our money back. We also purchased a popcorn bucket the first week of November and we are able to get two fills per day until April 1st.......sure can't beat that! read more

For adults a big benefit to this theatre is the bar which has a large selection of drinks and you can take your drink in the theatre! Can't take the attached cold stone or Jimmy johns inside , but they do have food as a concession other than popcorn. Despite other reviews I have always found the theatre to be quite clean, the lobby is very 90s. There are so many theatre so lots of movies to choose from. read more

My family and I have been going to Celebration Cinema North ever since I was a little girl. I've always had a decent experience: good-tasting popcorn, friendly employees, and fairly clean spaces. Over the years, Celebration Cinema has stepped up their A-game, probably to remain competitive with the newest features that other theaters are showcasing. IMAX is no longer the main incentive to see movies; D-box seats (seats that shudder and move along with the movie to provide a more realistic experience) and decliners have been included in select theaters, and a new menu featuring sandwiches, pizzas, and even salads has been added, where your order can be ran to you exclusively at your seat in the theater by an employee. With that said, no outside food is permitted into the theatre, so you are at the mercy of their high prices (I had tried taking in a sub from Jimmy Johns into the theater, which was literally located attached to the theater lobby, but was stopped and told I could not go in with it). This seems unfortunate, since the theater is located within a multitude of various eateries and shops. Though now that I write this here, I understand their strict policy on outside foods... Pre-show commercials have and continue to sponsor and feature local businesses in the area, which is nice, as well as some fun behind the scenes on upcoming or released movies to keep you interested while waiting for previews to start. Overall, I really enjoy coming here, but the last time I came, I noticed that the floor was still sticky and a piece of melted candy kept sticking to my shoe. A broom wasn't going to get rid of it, so I understand how it could get overlooked, but it did distract me from time to time during the film. read more

Like other reviews, we saw Oppenheimer in imax. Paid extra to do so. The movie had a green line running through the center the entire movie. Called for a refund and the assistant manager told me no since I didn't ask immediately after the show. Some people are busy and can't get to things immediately. Customer service was TERRIBLE, manager didn't care at all. I'll never go back, AMC is better, cheaper, and much better seats that recline. Goodbye Celebration. read more

Theater 11 on Memorial Day was so warm my chocolate was melting by the end of Bob's Burger. Everything else was fine.

Their drive in is a huge disappointment! Doesn't matter if there's 2 or 5 people the pice is the same. It's bad enough when they place your vehicle you'll be behind either a pickup an be breathing in his exhaust. Or a SUV that insist on opening their back to sit in it and block any possible view you may have been lucky enough to get. Staff are not only unhelpful but either rude or indifferent. read more

A great theater! I really have always been impressed with the friendly service and clean facility here. We go to lots of movies these days and they have a great rewards program. Getting the popcorn bucket has become a tradition for us, and it is such a good deal it easily pays off every time. Just saw Oppenheimer in IMAX. The movie itself was OK, but their IMAX print has obvious and distracting horizontal scratches throughout. As a former projectionist with years of experience, I know that these scratches result when a projector's gate is not properly cleaned between showings. It was definitely not worth paying extra for IMAX tickets. read more

Overpriced, overcrowded and overrated. Price gouging at it's finest when you can watch the same movie in a cleaner, less crowded Ada-Lowell 5 about 20 minutes away for half the price. They have absorbed the market and raised their prices consistently the past 10 years. Concessions are out of control price wise and they won't even let you bring a sealed water bottle into the theater. Exceedingly greedy. The staff are artificially friendly and somewhat pushy when it comes to moving the lines. At nights it becomes a pre-teen convention (which should be expected) so I'm sure loitering adds to the overcrowded feeling. Only good things is the Imax screen and other large screens. Good quality projectors and state of the art sound systems. Bottom line? If you go to the movies solely for the quality of the projection, screen size and sound quality this is your kind of place. If you want to have a good, relaxing atmosphere, don't want to overpay and want to support local business... I would suggest somewhere else. read more

I like them for their I-max screen (this review is directed at their website), but I recently tried to redeem free vouchers we received because of a glitch in the last imax movie we watched there (Avengers End Game), and the website is atrocious. Not user-friendly at all! The time limit on reserving seats is ridiculous. After spending almost 30 minutes trying to redeem the vouchers, I ended up being charged full price for the tickets. There is no help feature or at least, it is near impossible to figure out, and the FAQ is useless. They have the same tel. number for all the locations so you have to call that main number to get the number specific to the location. Very frustrating. read more

I've been here a few times now, and while I've never been early enough to sit at the bar and grab some beers, or play arcade games, or hit up Jersey Mike's I could do any of those things all within the lobby here. Which is great. I like feeling like I have a reason to show up early, hang out and not feel rushed. The tile floors and the wall decor does make this place seem a bit cold to me but the staff is nice enough and while it gets busy I have never felt overwhelmed by people thanks to the larger open spaces of the lobby. The theaters themselves are nice. The screens are quite large, and the seats very comfortable. I appreciate that the armrests go up so you can snuggle a bit more with your date. The sound here has always been very nice, though I don't know that they have Atmos installed here. I would say it's probably SDDS if nothing else, though that's just a guess. I have not seen any DLP ads run before a show so I don't know about the type/state of their projectors, while they don't seem as bright as other digital projections I've seen, I would not complain about it being overly dark. All in all I do not hesitiate to come here and am happy to see another movie here again. read more

Pretty standard for a movie theater. It's clean enough, lit well enough, and the staff is friendly enough. Everything is enough and satisfactory, but nothing is exceptional. The surrounding plaza has a lot of great businesses though. I do find it very annoying that you can walk into Cold Stone from the movie theater, but you can't take your ice cream into the movie with you. They either need to close off that entrance or post a larger sign. The sign they do have is so small that it seems like everyone misses it, and of course no employee from Cold Stone is going to tell you that you need to finish your ice cream before going into your movie. Same goes for Jimmy Johns. The businesses in the area would do much better if you could bring food into the movie, and it's not like the theater itself really has that many food options. Popcorn, candy, and a greasy personal pizza the main options. Anyone who tries to eat healthy will be disappointed here. It would also be nice if they would follow in the footsteps of iPic and Studio Movie Grill by offering pre-assigned seating. Especially since you can't eat in the movie it would be so nice to pre-select seats and then go to dinner at a neighboring restaurant. Overall this theater is better than most others in the Grand Rapids area, but there is considerable room for improvement. I'll keep seeing my movies here due to lack of better options. read more

hubby and I went twice in the last 2 days to enjoy the 3+ hour long lord of the rings movies in imax. staff wearing masks, rows of seats blocked off in the theatre. some patrons wearing masks in the theatre when not eating/drinking. popcorn bucket refills are handed out in large ziplock bags for sanitary reasons. bar area closed down, but, handful of alcohol beverages sold at regular concession stand. happy to have movies back, even though not much new is playing. read more

It was a little challenging to find, but it was late. Once we got there we went in and man..what a nice theatre. Nice clean concession with friendly employees and such comfy seats. We saw Us! And it sounded and looked amazing. Really don't have a single complaint about this place. Will be returning the 5th to watch Shazam Update: 4/26 Saw endgame and it was slammed! We decided to order our beverages and snacks on the app to avoid the line, but never received them to our seats. After the film, we approached the GM and he gladly and kindly gave us vouchers for free items, and explained the app can be finicky when it's busy. Probably the premiere movie-watching venue in Grand Rapids. The IMAX is wonderful, and the premises are usually clean and well kept. Service is pretty decent too. In general - it's a movie theater, and a good one. Parking is where this place really kind of sucks sometimes. Most of the parking on the east side of the complex is 30 minute parking, so you are either stuck parking outside the IMAX or way out in the west parking lot during busy days. Which sucks if it's raining / snowing. The seats are relatively comfortable, but I'd really love it if they'd take a page from some of the Cinemark theaters that have love-seat seating, and / or wide leather recliners in their theaters. That'd make this a luxury movie going experience. read more

I'm not sure what's not to like about this place. The service here is great, the venue clean and conveniently located, has ample parking, is flanked by decent eateries, has well-maintained theaters and has the IMAX theater. The prices are well in line with this level of theater. I've been to theaters that serve alcohol, and while that's a nice novelty, I doubt it would work well with such a large venue that caters to so many small children. With zero bad experiences here, I can't see any reason not to 5-star it and I'm happy to have this place at Knapp Corner. read more

Haven't been to celebration for a while. I was surprised that seating is assigned based on seating selection. I don't like it. The movie we are watching is not well attended anymore and it's dumb to force ppl to select their seat. It's hard to gage the the distance from a computer screen. I would have rated them a 1 star for this idiocy but giving them 2 for their proximity. Now am watching several minutes of commercials. I came to the theatre to avoid this. They have really updated the lobby with a sweet bar.... take your beer/wine/scotch/cocktail into the movie with you! They have also updated the good menu but we didn't try anything to know if its good. The theaters seats are comfy and the sound is usually good, if loud. Now its time to update the theaters' carpeting. read more

Love coming to a comfy theatre where I can kick back, relax, and enjoy the show! The recliner seats are so amazingly comfy! What's up with the bar though? I mean I know we live in a risky day in age but seriously, do we really need a bar at the theatre? Well if you have a problem with substance abuse, stay away this could be a huge trigger! Otherwise, walk on by I guess. Gotta say this seriously lowers the chances I'll be bringing my kids back though. Been there 3 times now and this was the worst time I've had a a theatre in a long time. Ok, the seats are great, the shows are great, but there was a big time issue with not having enough people to serve the concession stands. They only had one out of the two open and they were backed up back to the doors. I'm not sure if the other station wasn't working or people called in sick or they just didn't schedule enough people for a Sunday afternoon on opening weekend for Beauty and the Beast. We ended up sitting through Kong without getting anything to drink or eat. No way could I physically stand still in line for that long of period to get a drink. Today I found myself here to watch 1917. I love they have the bar and some nice eats but there is room for improvement in a big area. The trouble with this location is the price is a premium but every theater I have been in has limited reclining seats and require people to move if someone has to get up out. The place is always clean and the food/popcorn is good but at $15 a ticket I think they should offer seating like AMC on alpine. While this place kicks the butt out of AMC in every other way I find myself wanting to go to AMC because the seating is better and considering that is 95% of the outing I can't give this location more stars. Truly a five star place if they could upgrade the seating!! read more

Tuesday nights are 1/2 off! I skip any food or snacks because they only options aren't fresh foods. Liquor available in the lobby bar. There's plenty of seating options in the lobby to relax while waiting for a show or for friends/family to arrive. There are handicap seating available in the theaters. Seats are slightly oversized, recline, and the armrests swing upright to cozy up to a partner. Bathrooms are a good length away from some theaters but they do have a family bathroom available that isn't gender specific. read more
