My ex bff has been going to this lady for a while because she's Close, Convenient, and Cost efficient (Cheap sounded like too Crappy of a 'C' word to use.) The only complaint I could recall him repeatedly driving home to me was that she was very religious and imposed it upon you aggressively if you were not a holy roller like her. How bad could it be, right? As we are parking, my HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED also quickly interjected, "Oh she also sits down and cuts your hair. I hope that's ok." I give him about a 33% appalled step back, followed swiftly by a 1/4 turned snap of the neck combo with a slight 14 degree raise of my one good brow...then I drop it back to my normal 6pm long day face. He's my best friend, I thought to myself as I made my way towards the entrance...maybe she's tall like Yao Ming; he did say she's Chinese. Let's just do this. As I opened the door to the salon, I did not feel a breeze. I felt like Alice in Resident Evil when she wakes up in the hospital bed and half the lights were on...except in Mrs. Lee's shop, only the first two light fixtures were on out of a dozen. If her shop had to be named after a movie, it would be "Star Trek Into Darkness." If it weren't for the smaller tv next to the bigger non-working tv playing the local news, I bet it would be so quiet that you could hear a strand of your hair hitting the floor. Reluctantly, I proceeded forward while my friend went around to greet Mrs. Lee like she was an old family member. It wasn't easy to identify which stylist she was in the whole salon because she was the ONLY stylist in the whole salon. It's 6pm so I thought maybe all her workers went home already. If you're thinking I'm wrong, you'd be absolutely freakin' right! I learn later that she is the owner and sole employee of her salon. I am introduced to her and she doesn't exactly hop up to meet her new referral. She is nice enough and stays in her chair and immediately asks me ten questions. I politely answer them with full manners and respect even though not one query has anything to do with a haircut. He insists I go first...whoopie. Long story short, Flo sits down to cut your hair. She continued to grill me like her salon chair was the hot seat of the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire game show. At no point could I really see my haircut progression because she faces you away from the mirror where you can catch a side of the 15" tube tv and and reflect on how well the sun glares on half of it. As she continued, I felt like it was going wrong...very, very wrong. By the time I asked her could I have a look, it was too late and the damage had been done. I immediately told her "Um, yeah, I think we got it." She replies "Got what?" I widen my eyes and say "ALL OF IT." I get out of my chair as if I'm standing up for the first time after rehabilitation. My legs feel weak as I struggle over to let her wash my hair out again. This time when she washed it, it didn't take long because there was barely anything left. I got up and walked outside and found the closest curb. I sat there and in my mind, I related to Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables when she performed "I Dreamed a Dream"...but I couldn't remember the darn lyrics. I spend the next twenty minutes playing the song on Youtube, full volume on my phone, giving zero f's about all the weird looks I'm getting until my friend gets done with his haircut. Love this place! I…read morehave been going to this location for the past few months. Each time they have met or exceeded my expectations. The work that they do is quick and accurate. They have multiple hair stylists and the wait is not long. I typically wait between 5-10 minutes. They were able to cut my hair in roughly 10-15 minutes (granted I'm a boy), but took roughly 20-25 minutes cutting my girlfriend's in the past. They are clean on the inside and very friendly to both appointments and walk-ins. There are multiple locations of L N Beauty Express. Other locations charge $8 for a men's cut but this one, this one charges $6! SIX DOLLARS + tip = $8 - $9! Where else in Houston, much less Texas, can you get a quality men's haircut for that cheap?! My favorite stylist is Anh (Ann) Tran. She is the more mature stylist and in my opinion, more careful and detailed. Though, all hair stylists there are experienced and perform excellent work despite the cheap prices. The only downside to this location is that it is on the border of Alief. The area is not that sketchy or dangerous, considering I live around the corner, but I would still be careful going during the evenings. These are their hours: M-F: 9:30 AM - 8:00 PM Sat: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM Sun: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Men's cuts: $6 Women's cuts: $20 (if I remember correctly) They have a host of other services available as well as you would expect from a hair salon. She uses Vagaro to make appointments and requires a $25 deposit before she will confirm the appointment (this isn't my favorite practice but some places are doing it now). I got a flat iron style and trim. She'll even use a hot comb if you want which most places no longer do. I'm not a fan of the hot comb because of heat damage, but the option is there. I told her that trims make me very nervous because people often cut off more than needed and she respected my wishes to be very conservative with the trim. What I value most in a hair stylist is trust and she gained that from me. The salon Instagram is @hairlengthsvolume One surprise was that I was charged an extra $10 because my hair is long, but I don't remember seeing anything about that on the Vagaro booking website. Tip: Use google maps because apple maps took me to the same street but all the way down in Sugarland so I was 20min late to the appointment. This is why I stopped going there for appointments personally, because they would nickel and dime you for every little thing. Thought I'd give them a try with my kids, but needless to say we won't be returning. I do not recommend going there unless you like to be surprised with being up charged.
