Ropa Viejas with cabbage and plantains
    Alexis T.

This is a cute, quaint establishment with friendly staff, there's limited seating. The food is prepared well with some additional vegetarian sides such as cauliflower rice. The ropa Viejas was tender but the sauce was a bit tangy, like too much vinegar. The pork steak was flavorful and tender. The sides are standard but the cabbage has pork for a different flavor. The chicken and beef empanadas are good. I prefer beef for a little extra flavor and spice. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Great restaurant! This was my first time dinning at this restaurant for a date and the food didn't disappoint. I had an empanada and pollo guisado. The food was very flavorful and consisted of a good portion sizes. My date had the snapper and I had a piece, delicious. The service and ambiance were both excellent. I am looking forward to returning especially for another piece of tres Leche cake.

    Pernil and chicken empanada.

We stopped by for a late lunch and got the only table left open (1:30+-). The service took some time considering the volume that we caught at the end of the rush. We had the lunch three course special and a Media Noche sandwich with tostones. Having lived in Miami for ten years, we are pretty familiar with Cuban food. I liked the seasoning on the Pernil and the Maduros were excellent. We thought the food was a bit more from the DR as it was more highly seasoned than many Cuban dishes which we were happy with. The guayaba cheesecake was fantastic. Reasonable prices and very delicious.

Restaurant week AND happy hour on a Saturday - what a steal! We loved the beef empanadas- such chefs kiss! The Cuban slider also was tasty. For just $20 for RW, we got yucca fries, ropa vieja, and tres leches. Everything was seasoned well and the meats were so flavorful. We just wish our dessert came bigger! We also had a mojito and margarita. Both tasty, we enjoyed the mojito more.

Azúcar!!! A word popularized by the late and great Celia Cruz! This establishment is named after her!! I was excited to see a Cuban restaurant open in Howard County, as I often enjoy the one in Burtonsville. Unfortunately, this visit fell short on flavor and authenticity. According to our waiter, the recipes are from his grandmother but if I had to be honest they could use some fine tuning. Coming from New York and growing up on authentic Spanish flavors, I know the power of sofrito, garlic, and very well seasoned dishes and I must admit I missed that here. The ropa vieja was lacking taste, the beans were overly salty, and the empanadas were overcooked and dry. Again where's the flavor Latinos are known for? The mojito was just okay. That said, the ambience and service were excellent (5/5), and I loved seeing the face of my favorite late singer (Celia Cruz) gracing the walls, what a beautiful touch. Azucar Parking is also a solid 5/5. I truly wish this restaurant the best and hope to see progress with the recipes. I'll give it another try in the future, as I'd love to see a Cuban spot thrive in the heart of such a diverse county.

Found this spot during RW. It is tucked away in a small shopping center. It has a nice vibe to it. The service was great. We ordered beef empanadas which are really really good. We also had Pollo Guisado with rice and plantains, Picadillo with rice and black beans. Both dishes were hot(temp) and plentiful. The Polo had a nice and mild flavor to it. Picadillo wasn't my first choice, I went there to try the Ropa Vieja, but they were out of it. It was my first time trying it, so it was Okay. The Tres Leches cake was really good. All this was only $20. I will return to try the Ropa Vieja and get more beef empanadas. If you are in the area, give them a try.

First Cuban restaurant in town that I know of. I had to check it out. First impression was that it's very welcoming feels like home. Employees were very friendly and helpful. I decided to go with the Cuban classics like ropa vieja and lechón. Food was flavorful and it was a large meal. Our server was top notch. Definitely pleased with my first visit.

A Hispanic themed restaurant in my backyard? Sign me up! I decided to stop by Celia's for some dinner. I ordered a Cuban staple, the Ropa vieja with rice and beans, 2 pastelitos 1 chicken & 1 beef, and a order of tostones(fried plantain chips). I also ordered a Tres leches cake. The pastelitos were the star of the meal if you were to ask me. They were delicious and filled to the max with meat and packed with flavor I regret only ordering 2! Maybe they should offer a sauce to elevate them to the next level. The main course was a little bit of a let down. The portion was on the smaller side, the rice had a good cook on it and the meat was tender and flavorful. The tostones was a let down they were not fried hard like they normal are so they were soggy. The dessert was the biggest letdown for a piece of cake to cost almost $10. I expected a very delicious juicy piece of cake. It was not. It was your typical sponge cake with some frosting and some milk surrounding it, I'm not sure how it is prepared but it seemed like just a refrigerated piece of cake that had the milk added before purchase so it really was not spongy. I would give this place another chance. Try other things on their menu. Maybe a different type of dessert. Pastelitos 10/10 Ropa vieja alone without sides 7.5/10 Tres leches cake 1/10

want to start by saying I'm very familiar with authentic Cuban food. My friend and I decided to give this a try. Our experience wasn't what we had hoped it would be. First, it was the village's trick or treating event. Although we loved seeing the kids and their customers it was very loud and cold because they had them come inside for their treat instead of having someone stand outside the door to pass out the treats. The service started out terribly. We waited 20mins for our drinks and empanadas to then find out that the young man forgot and decided to give us the last one in the warmer which wasn't warm. We returned it for two fresh ones. We were told that the boiled yuca came with grilled onions which they did not. Our food wasn't very warm. The yuca was dry and hard in texture. The black beans were flavorful. The nice touch was at the end of the meal they brought out mini spiked hot chocolates which were delicious. We were surprised that there was a 3% upcharge. May we missed the fine print. Although the food was completely terrible it could have been better; we will continue to support other cuban restaurants in the area

Our first visit here and we already have plans to come back... ASAP! The margaritas are some of the best we've ever had. Totally reasonable prices, especially on happy hour. Chicken Empanada is obviously made from scratch- no frozen products here. Definitely a really tasty and great value. There are tons of options in this area for dining. This is a family purveyor, and the lovely atmosphere, great service and top quality fresh ingredients in both food and drinks - they've earned my support!!

Discovered this wonderful gem the other night! I never knew this even existed but came to check it out and I was not disappointed! We happen to come for happy hour which is rare that a restaurant offers happy hour on saturdays - and the happy hour items are actually worth it! We got one of all the appetizers and they were so delicious! I thought the chicken empanada was so delicious and flavorful but hubby liked the beef better- seasoning just right and the fry on it was perfect ! Also got the guava and cheese which is a little sweet so would work well as dessert - I loved it! Also got Cuban slider and pernil slider as well as pan con pollo- they also were flavored well and cute little sandwiches! Got the burger on tostone-also seasoned so well - not your typical ground beef patty-served on a tostone instead of bun and the crisp was so heavenly! I was absolutely stuffed for a fraction of the cost -I did not even get to eat any entree but I did try the yucca fries which were fried to perfection-crispy in the outside and soft on the inside- the service was so friendly and attentive- we even got free Cuban hot chocolate for free for dessert! Ambience is fine- great for informal dining but delicious food but I loved that there was enough seating and room for people

    Pollo Guisado (stew chicken)

The food was delicious! The service was great and the environment was lively. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back!

Tucked away in a forgotten shopping plaza, Celia's is a place worth a try! The food is comforting, like a home cooked meal. The drinks are delicious as well - but if you're looking to save calories, they might not be the best options. We had the Coquito and Brazlian Lemonade. The flavors are refreshing but the creaminess of the drinks are what packs on the calories. The Lemonade is made with fresh limes and condensed milk. The Coquito is traditionally made with coconut cream - which is delicious. Partner ordered the Pernil. The pork was very tender and flavorful. The side of cabbage complemented the meat entree. I had the Ropa Vieja. Very tender beef and flavorful sauce. My favorite part of my entree was the Arroz Gandules - well seasoned rice with peas. Everything was great. Service was friendly and efficient.

It turned out there is a large, free, public parking lot less than half a block from the restaurant. Our reservations were for 3:00 which worked out perfectly. We missed the buffet crowd before us and the dinner crowd after. We checked in at the front desk and were lead to our booth, which was tucked away in a corner and so cozy and comfortable. Our waitress, Lori, came by to check on us and to see if we needed anything. She was wonderful our whole dining experience. The rest of our party soon arrived and we ordered drinks and some appetizers. When our granddaughter, Ashley, ordered an alcoholic drink our waitress carded her. While checking the ID the waitress' face lit up and she smiled as she realized it was a few days past Ashley's 21st birthday. For appetizers we ordered fried green tomatoes, fried lobster bites, and duck oil fries. It wasn't long before every bit of the appetizers were eaten. For our meals I ordered crab soup and an entree salad, Our daughter ordered onion soup and a hamburger. For the rest of our party there was another hamburgers ordered, a crab cake, a seafood dish, and a fried chicken sandwich. One down side to the meal was my crab soup was awful. It tasted like tomato juice with frozen vegetables and some crabmeat. (Awful crab soup? This is Maryland, it should be better than that.) I passed it down to Richard. My salad was very good, nothing outstanding, but fresh enough and quite generous. Everyone else was totally enjoying their food. Ashley only ate about half of her seafood stew, but since she had eaten over half of the lobster bites, that was not surprising. For dessert daughter ordered cheese cake to carryout. Ashley ordered some fancy piece of cake. Of course it came with Happy Birthday written in frosting across the bottom of dish. We had had requested not a big birthday fuss so that was perfect. All in all it was a nice birthday lunch. I think arriving mid day, having Lori for our waitress, and everyone if good spirits made it perfect. I would definitely be happy to go back again, especially if we could get a cozy booth with Lori as our waitress.

Because of my video that I share at instagram I am glad Oversea Distillery and Bar only 10 minutes away from my house! BAIJIU: (pronounced bye-jyo) is a traditional, clear Chinese distilled spirit. Literally translating to "white liquor," it is typically distilled from fermented grains like sorghum, rice, or wheat and ranges from 35% to 60% ABV. As the world's most consumed spirit, it boasts a history spanning millennia How It's MadeUnlike most Western spirits, baijiu relies on qu, a unique starter culture of crushed grains packed with active molds and yeasts. This culture simultaneously converts grain starches into sugars and ferments those sugars into alcohol--a process called solid-state fermentation. The mash is then traditionally distilled in clay or stone pots. Just like wine or whiskey, baijiu isn't a single flavor. It is categorized into four primary styles, though many sub-varieties exist: Strong Aroma: Sweet and pungent with fruity and spicy notes (e.g., Wuliangye). Sauce Aroma: Complex and savory, often likened to soy sauce, fermented vegetables, or dark chocolate (e.g., Kweichow Moutai). Light Aroma: Crisp, clean, and floral, similar to sake or high-end vodka. Rice Aroma: Mild, slightly sweet, and floral, closely resembling other Asian grain spirits like shochu.

But then the crown arrived and there were lines 10 people deep just to get an order in. Food (which we didn't order) was a nightmare; there were people's orders behind the bar for over 30 minutes just getting cold because they were too busy to figure out where the people were and no one was coming up to check on their orders. I waited in line for over half an hour just to close my tab. I'd recommend paying with each order... I'm breaking my own rules, because I feel the 3.9 rating is pretty accurate, with one 5 star + exception. This was a business lunch and a convenient location so there we were. The duck fries as an appetizer were good but needed to be seasoned with a little more salt. I had a strawberry salad with some grilled chicken that was good with the greens, but dry as the desert with the chicken and borderline inedible. Here's the twist!!! My two compadres both had the grilled cheese and lobster sandwich. They both looked at me sheepishly and said, you f ed up!!! William was kind enough to break off a substantial bite and let me try it. Angels sang, children wept, and I almost passed out! The Crab Cake Eggs Benedict was nothing special - feeling like a flat, single-note dish.. Perhaps it was that the hollandaise sauce lacked the acidity (usually from lemon juice) to brighten the dish. Or, that the nod to Maryland - the Old Bay honey - drizzled around the edges of the dish wasn't enough to elevate it to something that is savored with each bite. I visited Myste for a private event, and while the space itself is very aesthetically pleasing, the…read moreoverall experience was disappointing, mainly due to the food and service. The lounge is on the smaller side, which actually worked well for the event and gave it an intimate vibe. The owner was also very nice and welcoming, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The menu is extremely limited, and you pretty much have to piece together a meal from a few items. I ordered the jollof rice and six-piece chicken wings. The wings were overpriced, overcooked, and had no flavor at all. The only options were sauces on the side (honey, ranch, or blue cheese), and when I specifically asked for honey drizzled on top with blue cheese on the side, that request wasn't followed. Even more frustrating, our server never came back to check on us or make sure everything was okay. The jollof rice was honestly the worst part. Instead of that rich, smoky flavor you'd expect, it tasted burnt with a harsh charcoal aftertaste. I've had jollof rice many times before, and this was nowhere close. I ended up sending it back. Because I was hungry, I forced myself to eat the wings, even though they were dry and lacked flavor. Overall, Myste Lounge has a nice look and potential, but the food and service really need improvement. A revamped menu and better attention to guests would make a huge difference.

Service was great considering the place is small, it's hard to miss customers. It's a small hookah lounge in downtown Laurel, so don't expect a ton of space, but it's still a nice little spot to unwind after a long day or make a chill after-dinner stop. Hookah was smooth and the atmosphere was laid back. They do sell food, but we didn't try it this time. My only downside is the drink menu, it's mostly wine and champagne but overall it's a place I could see myself frequenting.

This time I was lucky to be served by Mona. I found out she just recently started and was trained by Kay (see previous review), who is also a star in my book. This place is the perfect stop to refresh before boarding your next flight with great service and excellent martinis.

OMG. What are the chances that I run into Ms. Khadijah again? On top of that, I had mistakenly…read morethought my flight was earlier and ran into Raymond but he gave me the low down. He was a sweetie pie, too. Man, I miss the East Coast! Nothing but cool peeps like me just living their lives. After learning that I had a 4 hour layover, I was STOKED. Saw my girl, Khadijah for my returning flight to LA!! I was ECSTATIC! YOU HAVE NO IDEA. It's not the drink but the great vibes and company at Martini's. In fact, I noticed that when she's working, she's always got a full bar. It's her excellent attitude and vibe! I showed up and she had everyone up at the bar so I sat to the right of the bar so I can charge my phone! Even better, she remembered me! She told me that you can grab a drink if you have family, and sit across the way, if need be because those under 21 cannot sit at the bar. 2025.11-05/WED_1400: Just finished a long flight from LAX and had a two hour layover at BWI. I found the only bar between Concourse A and B. Originally, I was trying to stay close to gate A8. Had no idea my gates had changed to gate B. Martini is located at the top of the escalator on the way to Concourse B and the food court. The airport is under construction but you'll see it when you look for the escalator. There was a good amount of customers that looked like they were also on a layover having a great time. The bartender was a gorgeous lady by the name of Khadijah. It's so wonderful to see her beautiful smile and wonderful attitude. I don't know how she does it dealing with some grumpy and idiotic people! She's incredible just knocking everyone out with her wonderful customer service, attitude and SMILE. This changed her from beautiful to gorgeous or gorgeous to stunning. Whichever is top notch! Hospitality is 200%! Some customers feel so entitled and she handled everyone like a champ. No fuss, just a lovely attitude and she let stuff roll off her like waterproof wood stain. She also made me a drink called a Sexy Mule which had muttled blueberries, a flower of some sort (can't remember which flower liquor she told me) and extra ginger (it looked like pink lemonade garnished with blueberries). It hit the spot! Great suggestion! It was nothing like those bland Moscow Mules. If you are wondering where to go after a long flight and you're stuck at BWI for a long layover, I would suggest you see Khadijah at Martini because you won't receive stellar hospitality at any other bar at BWI like this! I'll be returning to BWI next week so I hope I see her again for my insane layover! #hospitality #martini #bar #baratBWI #BWI #mortimerthebear # travellingbear #everywherebear #ConcourseA
