So this review is going to be short and sweet, but with one VERY important note. Those of you who read my reviews know I typically review either really good or really "not so good" restaurants. I'm breaking my own rules, because I feel the 3.9 rating is pretty accurate, with one 5 star + exception. This was a business lunch and a convenient location so there we were. The duck fries as an appetizer were good but needed to be seasoned with a little more salt. I had a strawberry salad with some grilled chicken that was good with the greens, but dry as the desert with the chicken and borderline inedible. Here's the twist!!! My two compadres both had the grilled cheese and lobster sandwich. They both looked at me sheepishly and said, you f ed up!!! William was kind enough to break off a substantial bite and let me try it. Angels sang, children wept, and I almost passed out! It was the kind of perfection we all agreed we would have eaten 5, maybe 6 of these unnaturally awesome sandwiches until we passed out! 3.5 Star service, 4 Star ambience, and some 10 Star bites! Unique decor and menu gives Victoria the British gastropub atmosphere. There are private rooms that can be reserved if food purchase minimums are met which makes them great for gatherings such as graduation or birthday celebrations. The staff are nice, but service and the kitchen seemed a bit slow on a Sunday early afternoon towards the very end of brunch despite the area we were seated only had a few tables filled. The Crab Cake Eggs Benedict was nothing special - feeling like a flat, single-note dish.. Perhaps it was that the hollandaise sauce lacked the acidity (usually from lemon juice) to brighten the dish. Or, that the nod to Maryland - the Old Bay honey - drizzled around the edges of the dish wasn't enough to elevate it to something that is savored with each bite. The Fluffernutter Blondie is a good dessert choice if you love blondies and peanut butter. Although, it was a bit drier than I'd like, the texture was still soft. read more

Off the bat, the interior is super cute. It's more spacious than it appears from the outside, and had strong Victorian theming. They say you can tell how good a restaurant is based off of their simplest dish. The mozzarella pearls were absolutely delicious. The bread-to-cheese ratio was just right, and their portions were generous. If anything, the sauce was slightly too sweet, but I think it complemented the pearl's seasoning well. I got the oysters Rockefeller and I think they might be the best I've had in Maryland. They fell right off the shell and they weren't gritty. They truly took care while cleaning. My partner got a latte, the cucumber melon refresher, and I got the basil buck. They were super well, balanced, and indeed extremely refreshing. You taste the freshness of the fruit they used in both drink, but no alcohol (which I prefer). For entrees, I got the turkey avocado sandwich and upgraded to duck fat fries, and my partner got victoria's fish and chips. my partner said that for the price, the portions were a bit small and the fish was greasy, heavier than they would have liked. For me, the turkey avocado was tasty, however, it was a little too much meat for me and I found it hard to finish. I fear, that the fries have now changed my life, and I will never be able to eat regular fries again. The duck fat made them feel less greasy than normal, they were seasoned well and definitely addicting! I'll be back, and when I do, I'm beelining for the poutine. read more

All of the food was delicious. Each meal had good flavor, good portions, and good happy hour deals. Victorias is a great place for a dinner out, date night, or any kind of occasion. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get. The chocolate pecan cake was absolutely fantastic. My only complaint is that the kids menu is not for kids. Looking at the menu the options are fine, but the pizza uses spicy sauce, the chicken nuggets are overly crispy and adult-ish, and the fish and chips is just a smaller portion of the adult version. The fish is overly identifiable for a kid. Perhaps this is my picky eaters, but the kids menu is for a near adult kid in my opinion. read more

Finally stopped into Victorias on a weekend this winter! It's right by the house I moved into and I'm so excited about being in proximity to this establishment! The restaurant interior feels like a tavern, lots of wood but tasteful decor and a homey vibe. The bar is spacious and they've made the dining room feel more private with dividers which I liked. The bathrooms were clean! The mozzarella balls were delicious and the portion was massive. After 8 cheese balls I barely had room for my dinner! My boyfriend enjoyed his steak and I liked my sandwich. Our server was attentive and the food came out pretty fast! I'd love to return as I know they have some great beers and ciders on tap! A few things I tried were the Banana Pie Waffles: Really good, but Really Really Sweet. Recommend sharing or getting a side of bacon to break the sweetness with something salty. Crab stuffed Deviled Eggs: more like of Crab topped deviled eggs. Really good filling and the Oldbay chips are a good topping. Cafe Victoria Brunch Cocktail, it's a hot drink.. it doesn't say that on the menu. It's good but I would order it at the end of my meal as a dessert Cocktail because it's sweet. The Port Authority was my favorite of the cocktails. It's Bourbon, Tawny Port, Cherry Brandy. Alcohol taste with a bit of sweetness. If you're an Old Fashioned fan and want to try something different but not too far off I think this is a good one to try. The bartender let me try the Nitro Espresso Martini as it's in tap. Tasty but basic Espresso Martini to me. Things I want to try on my next visit: Dubai Chocolate Tart, Pancake Charcuterie, Duck Fat Reuben, Mocha Boulevardier Cocktail ... it's Rye based and the Pear & Honey N/A Mule. Their paprika fries were SO good and I'm selective and don't care much for fries, but they had a great crunch, seasoning, and were just perfect. The fish from the Fish & Chips was way too salty for my liking, but it had good breading it probably was my least favorite item due to the high sodium content. I used to frequent VCP when I worked nearby, and haven't been back for a few years. We were in the area doing a little shopping and I was really excited to stop in for lunch over the weekend! The inside decor is gorgeous, the dark wood gives it a warm, cozy, timeless feel, and the decorations make you feel like you're in a palace - especially those big wooden doors leading to the patio area. Our service was a little on the slow side but our server was super friendly and attentive. It was a weekend and not super packed, so we were happy to sip our espresso martinis and wait a bit. For lunch, I had the American Dip and absolutely loved it. It was a twist on a French dip with a delicious pesto, the bread was delicious and not too crunchy, and the meat was super tender. On this visit, I tried the hot-honey baked 1/2 chicken with waffles and cream spinach. The chicken was tender and juicy. The hot-honey glaze had a little heat and was sweet. Victoria is a pretty solid brunch and lunch spot. I've been here before a long time ago for drinks but recently came back for lunch with a friend. My teenager found Victoria's via an Instragram search of local brunch spots and worked with my husband to make a reservation for Mother's Day brunch as a new spot for us to try. The mimosa flight as a special drink option was delightful. At any brunch, I am a creature of habit so I peruse each menu for some version of salmon lox bagel or any form of smoked salmon with capers and eggs as my go-to, favorite order. I was torn between the salmon lox salad and salmon lox egg benedict. Following the recommendation from the waitress, which stated the salmon lox salad was a big salad as I stated I was hungry and this was my first meal of the day at noon, I went with the salad. (I was so hungry I did not snap any photos also.) However, upon arrival, the salmon lox salad was small, more like a side salad of mixed greens with 5 slivers of lox. The vinaigrette was not flavorful but I added salt and pepper and overall, I love smoked salmon and fried capers and was hungry so I ate it all. It was $21. In hindsight, if you are hungry add an appetizer or I would order the salmon eggs benedict instead. My littlest one enjoyed the kids grilled cheese and yogurt and fruit parfait. I ended up snacking on the kiddos fries which were also tasty. My daughter loved lobster grilled cheese, and my husband thought the steak and eggs were okay, generally that the steak was really good, everything else on the plate including eggs tasted from a box and potatoes he was not a fan and thought it was bland. While there were some bright spots across the family, my fav was the mimosa flight. They had a wide variety of juice flavors. I tired the lychee, pear, pomegranate and pineapple with pear and lychee as my favs! Service was quick even for a busy day like Mothers Day. While this is not at the top of my list for return spots to try again, I would be open to giving it another try in future. read more

What an amazing experience. Who knew you can find a gourmet chef and a gifted bartender in the same location. This is your hideaway romantic restaurant in plain sight. Don't let the name Gastro Pub deter you because they offer a high end quality and experience. Recommended from the trainee server Diane was the duck fat fries or poutine. Opted for the duck fat fries which did not disappoint. Savory, crispy, tender, and flavorful was what the basket offered. A unique unexpected offer was the table side for salt and/or pepper to really meet your taste expectations. I had two of the restaurants top rated cocktails that were amazing. The blueberry lavender bees knees was a well balanced gin forward cocktail and the Port Authority which was Mike's favorite cocktail; training server/bartender, hit all of the bourbon martini high marks. I do strongly recommend this cocktail. Given this was restaurant week I opted for the 3 course for $35 which was a great bargain. The first course was the blackened shrimp arancini which was very tasty and filling to be quite honest. The second course was the Smoked Cherry BBQ Pork w/ Rosemary Parmesan Risotto, Citrus Mixed Green Salad, Goat Cheese Crumble, and Toasted Almonds. This was a well executed dish despite the plating being rather busy. Fortunately I wasn't expecting style points for plating and very happy with the generous portion. To close I had the Dubai Chocolate Tart. Anytime you use good quality real butter you are going to have a win and this was no exception. Sadly, Howard County Restaurant week is coming to a close so you may not have the opportunity to try this menu for a while. From the permanent menu I'm just going to recommend the French Onion Short Rib Melt and substitute the Brussels sprouts for the up-charge. I'm really happy I took the time to set foot in this restaurant. Daily there are specials and you can become a member for a one time lifetime fee of $15 which will allow you some discounts and perks. Literally it pays for itself probably on the first night if you are drinking. Come down and check them out. Came here for a birthday dinner for a friend. The service was fast and our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The layout of the restaurant was nice but i didn't enjoy the booth for our party of six because it felt tight and was a hassle when someone on the inside needed to got to the bathroom. The duck fat fries were delicious but my pappardelle Bolognese was meh. I lacked something and not sure what. It was a letdown because the waitress suggested it. Also, my drink, I believe it was a lavender beesknees, was very strong but not in a good way. All I tasted was gin and nothing else. Can't believe I've never written a review of this place. Sorry! Been here three times over a roughly 10-year period and the food is always A+. They really know how to cook and the service is outstanding. Got here mid-afternoon around 1:30p and hung out till around 5p. Generous portion of hand cut fries tossed in duck fat with an aioli. Unctuous! There's a reason why the culinary industry calls that stuff "liquid gold." I taste rosemary and a few other seasonings in there too. Chicken "pick up sticks"... Skewered chicken breast soaked in buttermilk and marvelously juicy. Could use more seasoning, but the moisture makes up for it. I just added some Sriracha to accompany the dipping sauce and my mouth was happy. The chicken is almost leaking when you squeeze it. Hard to do with chicken breast for most places. I walked into Victoria Gastropub in the middle of the afternoon on purpose -- I wanted the vibe without the chaos. The place is tucked into one of those Columbia pockets that feels "near everything" without being buried in a strip mall, which is a relief. Easy to find, easy to navigate, no combat parking required. Inside, they got the design right. Clubby, oaky, warm wood everywhere -- confident without trying to win a design award nobody asked for. Comfortable. Relaxed. A room that knows who it is. The only miss was the music: '70s and '80s long-hair pop that felt like it wandered over from a bowling alley. Not offensive, just wrong for the space. As the crowd grew, it faded, but still -- swap the playlist and the whole place levels up. I sat at the bar -- because that's where the truth always lives -- and met Levi, the kind of bartender every restaurant wishes they had. Casual, professional, present without hovering. Yes, I was the only guest at the time, but even then, you can tell when someone has the job in their bones. The wine list was pleasant. No 2005 Bordeaux, no Left Bank or Right Bank heavy hitters -- nothing in that league -- but enough to drink comfortably, even if it's not a sommelier's playground. They organize wines by weight (light, medium, big-bodied), which is thoughtful and guest-friendly. Thursdays are half-priced bottles, which is all the religion I need. Logo-etched glassware, cloth napkins, flatware with heft -- somebody in ownership cares about details. And thank God: no paper napkins. If I ever wipe my mouth with the same material they wrap mall-food-court forks in, I'm leaving. I started with the tacos. Levi apologized that they'd run out of cabbage but could offer coleslaw -- meaning some prep cook shredded his way straight into trouble. The taco itself was lovely; the coleslaw was as flavorful as damp paper and arrived in one of those sad metal cups that should've been retired in 1978. Throw them out. It's time. The tortillas weren't house-made -- at $14 for three small tacos, that would've been a treat -- but they were warmed properly, lightly grilled, and sturdy enough not to require the double-tortilla panic move. They were basic Mission tortillas; there are better options. The cod, though, was blackened beautifully: fresh, balanced, seasoned with confidence. The cilantro sauce tied it together in a bright, clean way. As an appetizer, it worked. Then came the mussels -- a generous bowl of Prince Edward Island beauties. The top layer was cold, which was a heartbreak because they were otherwise cooked perfectly. The chili and raw garlic played beautifully together, giving it just enough warmth without turning it into a dare. Sauce was scarce at first, but at the bottom? A glorious pool of broth that could've changed the whole dish if there had been more of it. A wider bowl would fix everything. Pro tip: de-shell straight into the sauce and make yourself a little soup of happiness. As the crowd rolled in (yes, like a Billy Joel song), the atmosphere shifted into a well-heeled, after-work mix: grown-ups with jobs, opinions, and no pretense. Friendly vibe, friendly energy. When Levi left, the next bartenders were equally strong -- professional, well-trained, no forced charm, no over-servicing. Just solid hospitality. Would I go back? Absolutely. I'd like to explore the entrées and see how the kitchen handles bigger proteins and more complex textures. Dessert looked great, but I save my calories for wine and bubbles -- we all make choices. Victoria Gastropub is doing far more right than wrong. Warm service, thoughtful details, confident cooking, and a room that feels genuinely good to be in. A few missteps, sure, but nothing fatal -- and plenty of reasons to return. If Columbia had more places like this, I'd be out of excuses for eating at home. I'll be back. read more

Wonderful experience from start to finish. Abigail was our waitress/ bartender and she was EXCELLENT. She went over and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. The menu had a good variety to choose from for brunch. My friend had the Grill Cheese Lobster sandwich with Duck Fat Fries and I enjoyed the Cheese & Charcuterie Board with Smoked Duck, Fig Jam and other delicious selections. The libations were good too. They usually participate in the local events like Howard County restaurant week where they offer limited time multi-course meals that are good. Being in the middle of the suburbs, it usually packs up pretty quick around Happy Hour time, so I would schedule accordingly. Their happy hour includes deals on some of their appetizers and popular drink items. Their food is good, but I will say slightly inconsistent for me. It can be a bit heavy/greasy at times, but the overall experience is good. The staff has always been kind. The ambiance is usually a bit busy/noisy because it's so popular in the area. I get it! It's called Victoria Gastro Pub because the decor is quite Victorian! Some of my local buddies have hyped various things such as their mussels and duck fat poutine, so I decided to give it a go. The parking lot was FULL, so I was terrified for what it was going to look like inside. But the bar was mostly empty and all of the tables weren't insanely packed! Initially we were gonna sit outside, but the temperature started dropping, so the bar was the answer. We were given menus relatively quickly and put in drink orders. Per my recent beer excursions, I got a flight, but I let my buddy choose them. Don't ask me to remember the names, because some of them were crazy, but I found a good one in the bunch! We got the mussels and duck fat poutine that my buddies get so excited about... and... yes. The mussels themselves were fine, but that broth they were in was IT, and the bread that comes with it is as well. The broth was delightfully light and citrusy, and soaking the bread in it was a treat! The fries actually had chunks of duck in it, and it was really filling. The 3 of us were able to share it with no problem. With beautiful decor, delicious items consumed and way more creative ones to explore, I will be back. It's very nice and inviting inside. I loved the look and feel. I came as part of a group and the service was amazing. Very attentive. The shrimp cocktail was delicious. The bang bang cauliflower, poutine, and Caesar salad were delicious. The lemonade and strawberry lemonade were really good and the perfect amount of sweetness. I didn't really like the passion fruit mule, but the cider was good. I would have liked less cloves though. My entree was the petite filet, creamed spinach and onion rings. Overall- heavy, comforting, and expensive food, decent service, with big crowds I wish I could do 3.5 stars. I've been here maybe 5 times in my life and this past time was the first time I enjoyed it. It's always packed in there, which is confusing to me because the prices feel so high for the food you get. The food is good but it's hard for me to enjoy after looking at the prices and always leaves me feeling pretty heavy. I find it hard to get a balanced meal on their menu without breaking the bank and ordering separate things. I did love the happy hour appetizers. They were delicious and a great price. The corn bread came out warm. The seasoned fries are good and I loved the mustard vinaigrette on the asparagus. It's wild that they charge $2 for a piece of cheese on a burger and $3 to add bacon. Our server this past time was really nice and the beer list is large. The kids menu had good options. The kids fish and chips were good but very fatty. The bathrooms are two traditional men's and women's bathrooms with multiple stalls in each. read more

Came in for Sunday brunch and was delighted! A friend and I walked in without a reservation on a Sunday morning. I wanted to make a reservation, but they were disappearing before my eyes online so we just walked in. The entire main dining area was full! But we were fortunate enough to be seated with in 5 minutes on the terrace area. They have it closed off for the colder weather and have heaters. They let the area warm up for 5 minutes before walking us back. We were immediately greeted by our server Valery who was so kind and attentive. My friend and I both had the pub breakfast and juices as drinks. I went for this because I love me a traditional American breakfast! I was looking at the shrimp and grits but realized they were "cakes." Not sure what that would've been like. Anyway, the breakfast was good! It was a very generous portion because I still had potatoes and some parts of the sausage leftover. Roasted potatoes are usually a hit or miss, but I was very pleased with these potatoes. They were well seasoned and cooked at just the right amount. Everything else was good as expected! I will certainly be coming back!
