My best friend and I did a double date here for lunch. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and still has the beautiful stained glass from the previous church. Our server was pretty hands off and encouraged us to use the QR code on the table for ordering, but was present for questions and needs after the food arrived. The truffle cheese curds were phenomenally seasoned and more of a fried bite. The goat cheese flatbread was good at first, but very heavy on the goat cheese. We stopped in here on our way back from Milwaukee. I had seen it posted online and thought it was neat being in an old church. You walk in and it is impressive. Beautifully done and such a fun concept. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer and that was good. The menu itself has this Asian Mexican fusion. The ambiance and food here is kind of a mixed bag! I was excited to experience the pretty interior you see on their website. I expected a bit of a nicer vibe, especially for Valentine's Day. Wasn't the case. What they don't show in most of the photos you see online is they have a bar area right when you walk in with quite a few TVs. Then in the further dining area there are slot machines off to the side.... I would also say the servers are not dressed in a particularly appropriate attire in my eyes. I saw multiple servers in short/tight crop tops, more fit for a night out than serving a Valentines Dinner. Just not what I expected, given how they present themselves online. Now to the food! I will say, MAJOR PROPS for how well seasoned everything is. BUT I added chicken to my pasta dish and it was quite rubbery and fakey feeling NOT WORTH ADDING ON. Then on the elote rice, we added shrimp, and the shrimp was cut up into tiny pieces, hardly perceptible. Both appetizers were 5/5 great! I really like the beautiful church atmosphere and the appetizers give me hope. I just wish they would commit to being a finer dining establishment or add more fun casual elements. Easiest 5 star review ever. Gorgeous old church decor...thought it might feel weird eating in a 'church' but it was fun. We were seated immediately as this is a large building. To build privacy, they have created eating spaces that feel more intimate than just a huge open room. Menu is QR code and couldn't find lunch items. Learned they only do brunch on Sundays, so no lunch menu. Husband found a brunch burger and I order a pepperoni flatbread so still enough non breakfast like foods available. Both menu items were absolutely delicious. The fries were something special...not sure what they do, but really rich. You can sit in or outside, landscaping is beautiful. Cellar District has a loyalty program and after eating there one time we already have a free appetizer and $5.00's in credit. We cannot wait to go back! Something for everyone with awesome food, strong service, and gorgeous surroundings. (Road side parking has meters...bring change or you can use an app). The space is nicely decorated and has a comfortable atmosphere. It feels like it could be a true fine dining spot. The menu offers a good variety, with enough options to suit most tastes. The reason for the three stars is the service. The staff presentation didn't match the setting--bartenders were wearing crop tops and shorts, which felt out of place compared to the effort guests had clearly put into dressing up. The staff we interacted with were not very welcoming, and I overheard one employee using profanity while speaking to another. In a beautifully converted old church, it stood out in a negative way. Our server seemed disengaged and put in minimal effort throughout the meal. It wasn't until she brought the check that she offered a brief polite comment. AMAZING! Renovated church into a restaurant with beautiful stained glass windows, great lighting and seating areas creating an inviting, relaxing, quaint atmosphere! Beautifully curated menu of so many delicious choices! We really leaned into the server's knowledge of the menu since it was difficult to make a decision! I started off with the goat cheese flatbread with arugula and blueberries with hot honey. For my main entree, a bowl with sesame seed jasmine rice with edamame atop with perfectly grilled salmon that was crispy on the outside, but delicately delicious on the inside! Perfection! My husband started off with a generous bowl of chicken tortilla soup that had a nice balance of all do the flavors and was amazing! For his main course, he enjoyed the street corn bowl with chicken. He said that it was good, however, it did have a little too much of one flavor that he didn't care for. This was probably a personal taste preference since this is one of their staple dishes. We finished off with a skillet chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream. Rather than the skillet being cast iron, which typically creates a nicely done crispy bottom, but soft center, this cookie's finish was nothing like that. This place is a hidden gem of Fond du Lac. The staff was warm and friendly and made recommendations from personal knowledge. The food is a little on the pricey side for what it is, but they're using good ingredients. The burger is easily the best burger in Fond Du Lac. I was honestly shocked how good it was. As a ketchup lover, I was very happy when the waitress suggested I wouldn't need it (she brought it anyway) and was she right! I'm really happy I didn't add any ketchup as it would have ruined the experience. This burger was darn near perfect. I was a bit uneasy going in as the signage from the outside gives no indication what's inside this beautiful former church. The inside is beautiful and decorated respectfully considering this building used to be a church. No flavor in the rice, broccoli was complete mush & "firecracker' sauce was a dud with no spice at all. The fritters had no flavor again but good crisp. The vodka chicken was just meh. I made reservations for Cellar District based off the existing Yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. The first thing you notice is this restaurant is built within an old church. The interior is exquisite with most of the original architecture. When we asked if we could explore other areas of the restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a yes. Zachary was our waiter and the provided excellent service. He made sure we had plenty of water at our table and was not pushy with taking our orders. The restaurant uses QR codes for their menu so be sure to bring your cell phone with you. We started with an order of the deviled eggs and truffle cheese curds. Both were very good, but I was very partial towards the truffle cheese curds. When you're in Wisconsin, you can't go wrong with a good curd! Everyone at the table, ordered something different. We ordered a Hot Ham & Cheese, Bang Bang Shrimp, Lemon Pepper Shrimp Ravioli, Seared Ahi Tuna with Tomato and Olive Sauce, The District Smash burger, and a Strawberry Fields salad. The food presentation was amazing and the portions were quite sufficient. Everyone was happy with their meal and took their leftovers home. The Seabass was overcooked and had way too many unnecessary toppings (chopped up onions, cucumbers, and other ingredients that did not justify the taste)(and coleslaw on the bottom of the fish). The deviled eggs must've been made a day or two prior because they felt and tasted like they had been refrigerated for a few days. I did order a bacon burger afterward and that was delicious. My husband beet burger was really good. I had the tuna banh mi. It's nothing like a bahn Mi so they should just call it a ahi tuna sandwich, but it was good. Could have used a soy wasabi time side dip. The kiddo got the grilled cheese and fruit and ate as much i as would expect him to eat and the grandparents got different salads that they said was very good. This place was AMAZING. The setting is in an old church, but I felt very confortable being non-religious. It was clean and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The food took less than 15 minute to come out and OH MY GOD it was incredible. I ordered the Apple Blueberry Goat Cheese Flatbread, and I loved it. Our waitress, Dovey, was incredible. Cellar District is so unique! It was formerly a church that has been outfitted into a restaurant. High ceilings, and Stainglass windows add such a unique character to this restaurant. It is truly a beautiful space. I ordered the sirloin tacos and my husband ordered the Korean nachos. The tacos were absolutely delicious, but my husband was a little disappointed by the Korean nachos. They were a little too different than original nachos for him. Even though the restaurant was short staffed, the service was very good. I will definitely be visiting this place and bringing family the next time I'm in Fond du Lac. read more

BEWARE if you have food allergies or special requests. I wanted to LOVE this place. "Farm to Table" in a Church atmosphere is super cute and fun. This is the 3rd time I've been here. First time was pretty good-especially for a place downtown Fond du Lac. Second time, I came for my birthday, and ordered the Sea Bass. Although the waitress was sweet to put in a free bday treat, the fish was definitely off and tasted too fishy. Third time was this evening. I went for a special event "Tea & Tarot" where there was a 4 course meal, cocktails, a tarot lesson and supposed to have a tarot reading after (for an additional fee). After taxes nearly $70 without a reading was pretty steep. As a professional chef, I have high expectations of food and definitely tastings, but as I've travelled quite extensively, I attempt to critique food based on 3 very basic levels. Freshness/Quality of Ingredients, Presentation and overall Taste. No matter, where I am. I was apprehensive due to the main course being chicken and I am Pescatarian. I decided to email them directly and see if this was possible to do during a predetermined tasting. The owner(?) manager(?)-they never signed the emails said they could easily swap the protein and I could get the Seabass, since I didn't eat chicken. First two courses, no issues. The third (the swapped chicken) for fish was much better than last time, but potatoes were severely undercooked and was 3/4 of my way through my meal when I dug in deeper into my plate to not only find one, but three very large chicken pieces. It was hidden under the two pieces of fish and looked around for a waitress-none to be seen as it was a group of 30+ (?) of us. I thought about how much I paid and had to miserably fish out all the chicken and honestly after doing so- lost most of my appetite. As someone who hasn't eaten meat in nearly 27 years, I have never had so much meat "accidentally" be placed on my plate at a restaurant. Ever. Thankfully, I'm not allergic, but I made it perfectly clear that I did not eat chicken and not only did the manager/owner not make sure it was prepared carefully, neither did the Chef. The waitress who looked to have seniority asked how everything was after I already had found most of the chicken and I should her what was on my plate and she just apologized and walked away. No partially comping my meal, no apology from the manager/owner. Disappointed is an understatement, as this is by far the best restaurant in this part of the state. I also did not get a tarot reading as they had one reader for the entire group of us. I waited nearly an hour and a half past the time and they weren't even close to calling my name. We were impressed with Cellar District--very unexpected in Fond du Lac. First, we loved the decor and walking into a church repurposed into a restaurant. We dug how they echoed the motifs of the church decor in the bar designs and loved the colorful modern mural on the altar. They reminded us of something we saw in Croatia. We loved the entire ambiance though the expansiveness of the space can be a little noisy. We received fine service from the ladies at the reception to our server. My salad was a little less than stellar as they used sliced cheese and turkey sandwich meat on it but it was still a filling and tasty combo. My husband enjoyed his flatbread.
