Este rinconcito familiar en 1608 E La Cadena Dr te transporta directo a los Valles Centrales con cada bocado. La estrella absoluta son sus tlayudas oaxaqueñas, y la versión con tres carnes es simplemente espectacular: tasajo tierno y jugoso, carne enchilada con ese toque picantito perfecto y chorizo oaxaqueño bien sazonado y lleno de sabor. La tortilla crujiente por fuera, suave por dentro, untada con asiento y frijoles, cubierta de quesillo derretido que se estira deliciosamente, y rematada con repollo, tomate y aguacate... ¡Es una obra maestra! Sin duda, una de las mejores tlayudas que he probado fuera de Oaxaca. No puedes irte sin probar los chapulines preparados --crujientes, bien sazonados con limón, sal y chile--; son adictivos y una excelente botana para compartir (o no compartir, nadie te juzga). Para acompañar, el agua de horchata oaxaqueña es cremosa, fresquita y con ese toque especial de canela que la hace diferente y reconfortante. Y de postre (o para rematar la comida), el chocolate de leche caliente con pan de yema es el cierre perfecto: espeso, aromático y con esa dulzura suave que te hace sentir en casa. One of my favorite spots in the Riverside area and possibly anywhere to get authentic home style Oaxacan food. And I've only been here twice now. From my first glowing review/experience, I mentioned how it low key made me feel like I was on an episode of Anthony Bourdain's 'No Reservations' and this is how I sold it to my nephew when my brother's family was in town. I went by myself the first time and it is definitely a different experience when going with a group or in my case this time - as a family. My nephew got a tlayuda and wanted to try all the different meats, haha. Everyone was ordering something different except a few of use wanted the tlayudas. But on this trip, I got to try the Oaxacan hot chocolate and pan as well as some other items I didn't get to try on my first trip by myself. My brother even got some of the chapulines... both my niece and nephew were brave enough to eat them, but my sis-in-law and I couldn't bring ourselves to do it. Maybe next time. It was just such a great family dinner and one that I will remember for a long time and wish it had the same affect on my niece and nephew. If you're in the area, definitely an experience to be had and I would even say it's worth a long trek. read more

One of those unique experiences that leave a lasting impression. Home based business with full service. Grills are going with tender meats, fresh breads are baked and crickets are crunchy in garlic with squeeze of lemon. Molé topped empanadas and oaxacan hot chocolate. Small parking area in the front area or along the sidewalk. Large tented seating area by the time we left all the tables were full. If you're looking for authentic tlayudas this is the place. We ordered a tlayuda, memelita, and a cafe de olla. Everything was so delicious and fresh. I have visited this place at least twice before and each time the quality has been consistently great. The service is really great as well. Everything is exceptionally good! Authentic Oaxacan food. They open at 6pm. It is a home with white canopies in their yard. Parking is accommodating but there is also street parking. Cash or Zelle only. Be prepared just in case you don't have either. I ordered the memelitas with a side of tasajo. It was very delicious. The side salsas are very good. Not overly spicy but just enough to make it tasty with a kick. I also had a tamal de mole. The mole is sweet and not too thick. The masa is soft and not too dense. If you're looking for authenticity, this is the place! From the aroma of smoky grilled meat to the live Mexican music under a white tent lined with flags, the destination is a delicious experience! We were greeted warmly by the woman rolling out fresh masa and the men grilling incredible carne asada and chorizo. Everything was clean and organized. Our server spoke minimal English, but we managed just fine. The fresh horchata was delicious and not too sweet. Two different sauces and a basket full of toppings were delivered to our table. We ordered tlayuda and molote. Portions are huge! The cheese was especially tasty, stringy and sharp. Prices are not listed on the menu! It roughly amounted to $15 per plate and $5 for horchata. We had to ask for tableware, but mostly ate with our hands anyways. We left feeling full and satisfied and were encouraged to stay longer to enjoy more music. The destination made for a great night! My husband found this spot here on yelp so we decided to try since I'm actually Oaxacan. Both my parents are from Oaxaca so we like to try Oaxacan restaurants when we find them. Upon arrival, the surrounding area wasn't very inviting so we rounded the block again before deciding to park and get off. The driveway was large so we were able to park inside. They had a portable potty as well as a large hand washing station. I personally hate porta potties so if we were to come again, I'd make sure to use the bathroom before coming. Luckily, I didn't have to go this time so we washed out hands and proceeded to enter the las the canopy. We asked if we should just sit or wait for someone and were instructed to just have a seat. They had a cute little store as well that I actually checked out after we ordered our food. They carry several handmade items from Oaxacan artisans. At the table, we were brought a menu. The menu didn't have prices on any of the items. We ordered some of our favorite Oaxacan food items: a tlayuda, a memela, and an horchata with nieve de tuna. Unfortunately, the horchata sold out right before we ordered ours. We got a jarritos de pina but we're accidentally brought a different flavor. They were able to quickly switch it to the correct one. When our food came out, we were not given any utensils We ended up just eating finger foods style (so glad we had washed our hands right when coming in)! We wanted to order more food, but by the time we were halfway done, we saw the outdoor kitchen being cleaned. The pots, pans, etc were all being put away and they were wiping the area down. We decided to just ask for the check. The lady who charged us gave us a total, without bringing an actual "order" receipt with the total on there. I proceeded to ask how much each item was just so we'd know for next time. She did verbally break it down for us and explained they don't add prices to the menu because it helps them not have to change the menu over and over when prices have to increase. Overall, the food was good. Especially for being in riverside, the Oaxacan taste was mostly there. Would we return? Yeah, probably. However, I also do think, although very scarce, there are better Oaxacan food places in SoCal. read more

If you have not had food from Oaxaca you have to try this place! It is legit & super authentic. Everything they serve & their ingredients come from Oaxaca. It's a family owned business & it's right outside their house. Everyone is super friendly as you walk in and helpful with the menu. We started off with a chocolate de leche and it came in this super cute little bowl. The friends we went with also got a bread that goes with it. It was airy and light a little sweet but went great with the hot chocolate. For dinner we got the Tlayuda with 3 meats. The Tlayuda comes with cheese, beans inside and its like a big this tortilla. The meats come on the side I can't remember what they are called but it was basically chicken, beef and chorizo. The Tlayuda is definitely sharable because it is huge (unless you have a big apetite lol). We also got the molote which was recommended that is fried and filled with potato and chorizo with beans on top and crema. All the food was amazing and we can't wait to go back. My first time here, the food so amazing delicious new for me and my husband, it had been raining so we didn't get good service. We waited for our food for a while...not complaining but I did see many big groups of family. My question for this family own business please make sure you update your pictures on what you have available because it was a little hard to describe what we wanted to eat. Also make sure you know is family house so it might look a little confusing in the outside of the house. I've never had Oaxacan food before so I don't have anything to compare to but I can say that everything we tried was delicious. We had the tlayuda mixta, tamal de mole, molote, quesadilla, and hot cocoa. By the way - tlayudas are huge! The eating area was clean, nicely decorated, and toasty warm thanks to patio heaters. I love it when I find an authentic Oaxacan place to eat. The food hit the spot! I said extra quesillo on my tlayuda and I got EXTRA quesillo. The salsa was spicy. The plate presentation was WOW, I had never seen somebody present use such authenticity using the guajes. Ufff! El café de olla ... is to die for!! Love the food here! My husband is from Oaxaca and it's very hard to find authentic dishes that are good. My personal favorite is the Tlayuda.
