First visit to Habaneros yet this visit was like a homecoming. As a student at UCR in the late 80's, early 90's living in an apartment close by, Zacatecas, originally housed in this building, was my favorite eatery. The layout is the same with brighter colors, an updated kitchen and a more vibrant feel. Beautiful outdoor patio which I'd like to try on a future visit. I am a Chile relleno fan and am always in search of the best in town. Habaneros is right up there at the top of my list. Light, cheesy, flavorful. My only hesitation is that the sauce was a little more tomatoey, with less depth of spices for my taste. The refried beans make an authentic tic Mexican food eatery and these beans are delicious. Top notch. My mom and I enjoyed our enchiladas; great sauces and tender, yummy stuffings. The complimentary chips and homemade salsa were also really good. We needed a place for a birthday party on Saturday. We had a party of thirty. We were welcomed here with open arms and set up 3 tables of ten in the banquet space, next to the restaurant proper. Perfect. We were loud, happy and a few had traveled from Los Angeles, Lancaster and Temecula. We mostly arrived on time and each group or couple was greeted and directed to the room set aside. Chips and salsa on every table. Drink orders taken and delivered as we waited for the entire group to arrive. All the staff were most helpful and attentive but our server, Ulises, mainly handled our group. As the last of our group arrived orders were taken of the birthday girl and her table and then around the room. Well done. The entire menu was available and they treated us like we were another table in the restaurant. As the food started arriving at the tables you could hear the reaction of our group. From the sizzling fajitas to the shrimp and carne asada burritos. The enchiladas and rellenos were all excellent. We were there just under three hours and not charged a deposit or even a minimum gratuity. Now every one near and far knows of the Habanero hospitality. My local group will visit again soon! Parking: Easy, open free lot I came here for a catered event. They served cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, chips and salsa. I loved the salsa cause it had a kick. The food here was wonderful. Chose this place at random while driving through the city. When I walked in, I heard sizzling and saw this dish being placed in front of another patron. It was a chicken enchilada with some fajita vegetables. Sorry I don't remember the name of the dish, but I did take a picture. My cousin and I thought the salsa and chips were amazing. What I'm looking for is the seasoning and sauces to scream YUM. Unfortunately I'm on a diet and so I have to watch what I eat, but wasn't the grilled salmon I had DELECTABLE. My vegetarian partner in crime had one of those chocolate mole sauce situations (that I forget the name of) and she was in Heaven. We're originally from LA and so as great as this place is we'd remove half a star for the interior. It's not bad, but it's not what it could be. That is to say it doesn't shine like the food. But I'd rather have the tasty over cozy, so the 5 stars remain. If I had the money I'd open a 2nd Habanero in Redlands yesterday. I was enjoying it too much. They have options for potted beans which it is a plus. I don't eat refried beans. I like potted beans and they were wonderful.
