This park is pretty large, but can get very muddy or dusty depending on the weather. I do love that there's a dedicated small dog park!

This is such a lovely dog park. They have options for a small dog section and a larger dog area, I believe based on weight. They just recently paved the park in between them, so you will have a pretty clutch walking loop if your dog prefers to wander around with you more than the dog park itself. They have great water fountains in each section and plenty of doggie bags with hand sanitizer (at least in the small dog section) as well as ample trash cans. I would recommend coming when the grass has grown since the dirt gets pretty dusty in the middle of summer. Also, I would avoid this area after a rain since it becomes pretty muddy. Opened in January 2006, this dog park is a stones throw from Centennial Park. It includes a 2 acre "big dog park" with a pathway and greenery on a very steep hill, and a half acre spot "little dog park". I liked how central it was to the city, and the dog had LOTS of dogs to play with. However, there was a lot of unscooped poop and it was hard to walk in the area without gagging on the stench. It's always interesting to me, as someone who's not an animal person, to watch animal people. At one point, a dog came to me, sniffed my hand, and tried to jump up playfully. It's owner snapped at me: "Hey, we're teaching her not to jump. Push her down." Nah, buddy. You're teaching her not to jump. I have nothing to do with that. I awkwardly pointed to my headphones, indicating I couldn't hear him, pet the dog, and continued walking the paved pathway to get my steps. But it was interesting to watch, as many people in this park were very hands on with all of the dogs, throwing toys for dogs other than their own, pouring water for dogs other than their own, and petting dogs other than their own. read more

My dog and I love it here. We've started going to this park for several months now and it's his favorite place to go to. I don't think I've ever had or really seen a bad experience with another dog ever since I've gone here. It's a huge space for him to run around (which is great because he has the most energy in the world, since he's a vizsla). Solid Big dog park west of Nashville. Nice people lots of dogs even midday during the week. My Dog had a great time! It's all dirt at the moment so I can't imagine this would be my favorite regularly because if it were the least bit wet I'd be giving a full bath for sure. I like the concrete path through the middle, so at least there's as option of not stepping in pure mud... Some mulch or grass would be better... Needs improvement but definitely will tire your dog out. read more

This is my dog's happy place. This park has two entrances, both double gated, has plenty of bags, usually plenty of tennis balls, almost always busy... puppy paradise. There is also a small dog park, but given that my canine son is 10 months and 70 pounds, I have only been to the large dog side. There's a parking lot at the top of the hill near the small dog park, or you can park on the street near the other entrance. It can get busy, but I've never had trouble parking. The park is pretty hilly, so the dogs get extra tuckered out, which makes for a sleepy dog and happy dog mom for the rest of the day. There are several 'regulars,' so my dog has a few BFFs that he sees on a regular basis. I think I've been to every dog park in the area and Centennial is by far my fave. read more

I really love this dog park, also hopefully so does my dog. Centennial dog park is located near Vanderbilt University and Hospital - in a busy part of the city. The park, Centennial Park, is a nice green space that allows those to take a little break from the nearby city. The dog park is located in the upper corner (depending on how you look at it) in a fenced off area. There are two areas of the dog park. The regular dog park and the small dog park. Considering my dog is little, I chose to use the small dog park. This is generally reserved for dogs 25lbs and under. The dog park itself is well maintained and offers a nice area for dogs to run to let loose. The park provides doggie poop bags so owners can clean up after their furry friend. There are also foundations available, but be aware these are often turned off in the early winter and remain off until spring. The dog park offers ample seating. I do wish this park was a little bigger, but for being in a such a central location - it's a great spot to let your little friend run around and make some friends! read more

I love it here! The big dog park is huge! Today there were about 20 dogs playing and exercising. There are benches and picnic tables and doggy poop bags are provided and there's even a water fountain for dogs! More trees and benches would be great though. And the small dog park is good too. There were about 4 or 5 small dogs there but they weren't doing much. BTW, pitbulls aren't allowed in the park. I've never seen that posted as a rule at a dog park... I guess, I kind of sympathize with the rule since a lot of people are afraid of pitbulls, but these dogs are large dogs and they need SOMEWHERE to run! Maybe there can be a third fenced in area for "well-behaved/ non-aggressive" pitbulls and then keep the large dog and small dog areas as is. Overall, this is a really awesome dog park. I still kind of prefer the Bark Park in Franklin with its perfectly permed grass and agility course for the doggies as opposed to this park which is a lot larger (good), but its not on flat land and they use wood chips instead. Pretty nice dog park. Two separate areas, one for large dogs one for small dogs. I've never been in the small dog area but the large dog area is well kept up. People are good about cleaning up after their dogs and it's usually fairly busy. It's nice there is plenty of grass and the areas that their aren't the park does a good job of keeping it mulched so the place doesn't turn into a big mud puddle. Nice little water fountain for the dogs and plenty of benches and picnic tables if you just want to chill out while the dogs play. One of the better public dog parks I've ever been to. read more

My pupper loves this park! It's located right across the street from the Parthenon with ample street parking near both entrances. As you can see from my pictures, the park is pretty desolate during the winter and it can get really dusty when it's busy with lots of dogs running around. There is a convenient water fountain available for the dogs, but it closes during the winter and reopens in March. Owner discretion is advised because my dog has gotten bit pretty bad by an aggressive dog that warranted a vet visit. After this incident, I follow my pup like the crazy dog lady that I am since not everyone is diligent about tracking their dog when a scuffle breaks out. Aside from that, our experience here has been very positive! The park itself is very well maintained and clean, with doggie bags available if needed and plenty of seating. There's also a separate park for smaller dogs on the other side of the main entrance of the larger park. This place is packed on the weekends, so we enjoy going on the weekdays when it isn't so crowded. So glad there's a place where my pup can run around freely to her heart's content! read more

There are two dog parks here: a smaller one for dogs under 25 pounds, and a larger one for dogs over 25 pounds. I bring my dog to the larger park on a regular basis, and he absolutely loves it. Tons of room to run, plenty of benches to sit, and even a nice doggie drinking fountain for when they get thirsty. Most of the time, all the dogs are are great and friendly. One of the reasons I'm taking a star off is because every now and then, there will be some negligent owner that brings his overly aggressive dog in there and let's it do whatever it wants, usually imposing it's dominance on other dogs causing some aggressive problems. There is no person of authority in place over the park, which usually leaves the park goers to deal with it themselves. Also, I know pits have a bad stigma, but I find it absurd that any kind of pit or pit mix can't come in. I've seen so many "tame" breeds cause problems here, and a lot of the small (under 25 pound) dogs that should be in the other park are always barking and instigating. Overall though, it's a great park, and I will continue bringing my dog. Word of advise, though: if it's your first time bringing your dog here, DO NOT come on a weekend, as it's usually packed with 50+ dogs. Come on a weekday morning to let your dog feel out the park and get acclimated. read more

This dog park was so cool! We stayed nearby while on vacation and it was the perfect spot. It has separate fenced in areas for large dogs and small dogs. There were tennis balls for dogs to use and water fountains in each area as well. There are also sidewalks outside the dog areas if you just want to take a stroll with your dog on leash or without your dog to just enjoy the scenery. read more

I really enjoy two factors of this dog park: 1. TOYS. I think there are at any given time somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 tennis balls strewn about the dog park or in the metal container near the entrance off Parthenon Dr. 2. SIZE. The park is significantly larger than my other favorite dog park in the Nashville area / suburbs (which would be Maggie's Bark Park). I love the fact that the Centennial Dog Park is very large. My shorthaired pointers need space - and I mean lots of space - to run and to play. I also like that most people seem to follow their dogs around and ensure that no fights or anything of that like break out. Now, I dislike one factor about this park: 1. People do not seem to pick up after their dogs here. I know it's a big place, folks. I know it's hard to watch everywhere your dog(s) are, but c'mon. If I can keep track of my two poopers and their potty, then I expect you to do the same. It isn't hard. There are plenty of waste dispensers at both entrances. Just grab several bags on your way, put them in your pocket, and clean up after your pooch. Things that are the same about this park as Maggie's: 1. Small dog area and separate large dog area. Awesome. 2. Plenty of well stocked poop-bag dispensers 3. Doggies 4. Near trails to walk around (in this case a much larger space to walk around than in Franklin, as Centennial Park is right across the street from the Centennial Dog Park) read more

Good dog park, especially if you have a smaller dog. There are two distinct areas, one for all dogs and one for dogs under 25 pounds. As an owner of a smaller dog this is a big plus for me. There are waste dispensers for picking up after your pooch, water fountains for hot days, and benches for the owners to lounge while their canine companion runs amok. The small dog area is on a hill and is more dirt than grass. Keep this in mind if the ground isn't dry because it can be quite muddy. I've yet to find a dog park that isn't mostly dirt though so it isn't a big deal. read more

I stopped at this dog park during my 3-day drive from NY to Austin, TX to let my dogs stretch their legs. Nashville, I almost didn't want to leave because of how wonderful this park was! Why I loved it: It's huge. So big that I SAW my dog pooping and I SPRINTED towards her while she was going (I probably scared the crap out of her ha ha) and I still couldn't get there in time to find the poop. So I picked up two nearby unclaimed piles and decided to call it even. Plenty of street parking or there's a little lot at the top of the hill. Lots of trees/shade Benches/chairs to sit Doggie water fountains More than one entrance, and they're the double gated kind Separate small dog area Not far off the highway, so if you're doing the road trip thing like I was, it's not too much time wasted driving to the park. The only downside is that there was a massive squirrel population so my one dog ran around barking up into trees the whole time instead of pottying or running. Also it is a BIG park so it's hard to keep eyes on your dog(s) at all times. I did notice unclaimed poo piles in a few places. read more

First dog park and very impressed! I like that they separate the big dogs and small dogs in different yards, some dog parks don't have that. Lots of space for the dogs to run around, all the dogs were friendly and so were their owners. The only negative thing I saw were the gates to get in and out of the dog park. There is a gate to get in to the middle area and then a second gate to actually get into the dog park itself which is good, I just wish there was a sign to let the dog owners know to open one gate at a time. It made me nervous when people came with their family and they were opening up both gates at one time. It's just easy for a dog to escape. I didn't look closely at the first gate so I'm not sure there is a sign, I know this is common sense to most people, but ya never know. Overall great experience! read more

This is a beautiful set up for your pups to come and have a good time and being social with other dogs. We've been here twice now and there are some dogs a bit in the aggressive side. Sure there are breeds that like to show dominance and territorial but the owners can also jump i when their dogs are biting other dogs. There are some kids that bring their dogs and can give two poops about picking up their dog poops which is not cool at all. It's a great thing to have such a nice dog park in the middle of the city but we have to keep it up and make it a place people can take their dogs and feel safe and clean. If we go back it will be during a weekday or early mornings when it's not so busy. read more

We don't own any pets. But when my husband and I take walks, we inevitably end up in places that have official or unofficial dog parks. The few times we've visited this area, we watched dogs happily engaging in doggy things. Groups of dogs with alpha dogs trying to lead the pack or wrestle leadership from other dogs. Small groups happily trying to take sticks away from each other. It was like watching kids on a playground -- different packs with different personalities with different leaders (or not). Their owners chatting up with each other nearby. We did like that there are separate pens for the small dogs and the big dogs. And I liked watching dogs wave their tails excitedly as their owners lead them towards the pens. Great place to socialize your dogs. read more

This place is great! Nashville needs more of them. Not just a fenced-in enclosure for urban dogs to run around in. Those places always remind me of prison yards. This dog park is a fenced-in little stretch of nature. Trees, rocks, rolling hills! Dogs feel like they're...in nature! My little 5-month-old pup all but jomps out the car window with delight whenever we arrive at this wonderful disneyland for dogs. Most of the dog owners are extremely responsible, so you don't have to worry about your puny little wussy mutt being beat up by other dogs. There's even a smaller enclosure nearby specifically for small dogs! I must admit, sometimes I sneak in there for a dose of cuteness. One caveat: they do not allow pitbull-type dogs, which I totally don't get. There's nothing wrong with the breed per se, they just get a bad reputation because they are often rescued from dog fighting rings, and those guys have some behavior issues. But they are great dogs! I always feel bad when I see a pitbull owner getting kicked out. read more

Nice park, don't go after a rain because there is very little grass and it is all mud. Additionally, people don't watch their dogs and as a result they don't pick up after them. I love all of the trees and could tolerate the lack of grass if people would pick up after their dogs. read more

My dog absolutely loves this dog park. It's conveniently located by my apartment, and there is always a really great group of dogs there. I really appreciate the size of the water bowl for the dogs and the huge spout to pour more water when one dog (sigh, my dog) drinks all of the water out of the bowl. The best part is the size of the fenced in area! It's absolutely huge. I also love that there are plenty of benches for the dog's owners to sit and watch their pups run around and play. My biggest concern is how far away the trash cans are. If your dog poops more than once (yes, mine is ridiculous - sometimes 3 times) you have to keep getting up and walking to the entrance! 90-lb dog owner problems. We had so much fun at this dog park last week! It was our first trip, and the large, well kept park was bumping on a Thursday evening! We have a Golden Retriever who prefers chasing tennis balls and bothering other humans to actually socializing with four-legged buddies. There was plenty of room for him to fetch anything that went soaring without bothering the pups who were getting into other shenanigans. There was plenty of seating for humans, and a few water stations for the fur babies. The people (as dog people tend to be) were friendly, and cleaned up after their dogs, as far as I could see. This park was a hit for the people and and puppies in this family. The only thing that skeeved me out a bit, was the family we passed as we were leaving. They were coming into the park with their dog and a bag of McDonald's. That's just freaking gross. This is a great place, and clean as far as dog parks go. But it's a dog park. If you're taking a meal here, please be aware that puddle on the picnic table is probably not rain. read more

This is a great dog park centrally located in the west end park/centennial park neighborhood/area. It is a large park situated on a hill right across the street from the Parthenon. There are two fenced in areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. At each gate entrance there are tennis balls, poop bags, and trash cans which are all extremely useful. In the center of the park there is a water fountain for the dogs. All of the dogs and owners that we have met so far are extremely friendly. We love taking our dog here and he loves running around this nice fenced in area. It is such a dog oasis in a big city. read more

Having a small dog, I really appreciate that there's a small dog area, but I am always sad that it's super empty every time I visit! My little lady loves to chase other dogs and I get pretty exhausted trying to sub-in when there's no one around. Other than that, the small dog area is great. My dog has a large hound buddy she likes to play with in the large dog area, but this can sometimes devolve into a pack of large dogs chasing my teeny pooch around, but usually we can move over to the side of the park for them to play. I've seen some issues with parents of aggressive dogs not acting very quickly, but overall everyone seems to pitch in to make this a fun, happy place. read more

My fiance,my dog Missy Marley,and I just went here and lets just say Missy Marley knows what " Bark Park" means when my fiance and i talk about it. ;) Missy Marley is a Half black lab mix with miniature border collie.My fiance and I took Missy Marley in the medium/small area.Missy Marley was very,Very,VERY shy at first! But then,friendly dogs came around her to make her comfortable.It took her 30 minutes to adjust but,she got the hang of it and had a BLAST! They have a small little water fountain for the dogs to lap up water but,if you want you can bring your doggy supplies.I brought Missy Marley's kong tennis ball,durable pink squid,tug a rope,bottle of water,and a small bowl.At this Bark Park,they do have a "pick up poop station" little baggies.Your required to pick them up.Yes,it sucks picking up after your own dog but,its what keeps the place looking so nice! Did i mention is a nice place and clean ? Plenty for dogs to dig up little tiny holes! Nice trees.Fenced in gated area for your dog to run freely.Just,nice people too! Very very nice.My fiance and I were super happy to see our Missy Marley make new friends and see other owners play with our little one.Missy Marley made a friend and we plan on going there every Saturday for now on. One of the best free resources Nashville offers, and we take advantage often. We have been to the other dog park over by Edwin Warner, and we prefer Centennial the best. Clean park overall, plenty of seating for owners, large space to run, friendly dogs and owners, and FREE! We haven't run into any issues with other dogs or owners, so overall our experience has been great. We come at least once a week when the weather is nice. Highly recommend! read more

Overall I think this is a pretty great dog park. My corgi loves it! Always busier at lunch time and after the regular work hours. The park itself is plenty big for dogs to run around, play, and wear themselves out. There's always clean up bags for poops and sometimes even tennis balls to play fetch with. It's fairly well maintained and everybody pitches in here and there to keep it that way. Most of the dogs are well socialized and behaved with a few aggressive dogs here and there, so you still have to keep a little bit of an eye on your pet. Most pet owners that come to this park have a fairly good handle on their pets and are quick to break up any sort of skirmish between dogs when they get too worked up. We've been coming here for almost a year now and have only run into one dog owner who was as aggressive as his animal. read more
