I recently went to the dentist here whom had always otherwise been good to me. However Recently i was led to believe i was being treated for a root canal and the first part of the two before having a crown put on. I came to find out that i had not been treated for the root canal but simply had only been cleaned out and charged $700 for what only lasted a few days until i was in extreme pain again. After calling back to try and clarify what exactly was done and if i could be seen again i was rudely told i could not because i didnt have insurance, however i didnt have insurance the first time i went there anyways so how is this any different ??? I am currently laid off due to covid 19 since March 17th since im a chef, I am homeless, going from place to place trying to make ends meet on low income temporary unemployment and definetly don't have the time or money to give away to not even fix what the problems are in my teeth. I am so upset right now and suffering and can't even get in to get treated anywhere. My head is constantly throbbing, I have a horrible infection and can't eat, sleep or really even live life day to day without being miserable. Had i known this was the case i would have just pulled my own damn tooth out rather than waste $700 and now been told it till be $2500 to do the damn root canal from start to finish. I feel like i was completely in every way taken advantage of. I specifically remember him telling me i would have to come back to have the crown put on not do the entire canal. I have always had great work done here otherwise. But this was uncalled for . I fell bad because i am not one to write bad reviews about anyone . I am a chef and i cant stand it when people complain about slow restaurants when its busy or some pety stuff because they clearly have no clue how hard the industry can be. THere was ABSOLUTELY no clarification on what they were doing to me when i went in. But to top it off i was very rudely spoken too and They did say i would only need to come back for crowns so one would think that yes they are doing the pre curser to finishing a root canal would you not ? I am upset, the right thing for them to do would be to at least temporarily refund me some of my money for what i spent on not fixing my tooth. I If I were you I would be careful going to this dentist . I have had such bad luck with dentists all acrosss this country. I really like dr. Skaldron and think he is great dentis he did go out the way to treat me during the epidemic but it was not clear on what was being down for me . I feel like i was taken advantage of . I wish this was not the case . I hope no one else has to go through what im going through right now cause it is pretty much the worst thing ever. I've been to the West River Dental office three of four times now, and every time is a pleasure! The receptionists are always super friendly and are careful to check my insurance and bill me accurately. I usually get my teeth cleaned by Quyen who is gentle, thorough, and kind. Dr. Skadron has filled a couple of cavities for me and also performed a crown on a molar that I've had filled and refilled a couple of times. He is friendly, professional, and quick. He performs the crown procedure in just ONE visit instead of the old-fashioned two-visits, which is so so helpful for a busy schedule. The crown had a small issue, and they rescheduled me very immediately for a follow-up and fixed it at no cost. Very happy to have found this office!! read more

This place is great! They have a convenient location on Lake in the Longfellow neighborhood. The office appears to have been updated recently and is quite nice. The office staff were all friendly and efficient. My hygienist was friendly and tenacious, she worked hard to get rid of my plaque! She took pictures behind my teeth with a special camera to show me why I should floss more - I thought this was really cool, I've never seen anything like this, and I've been inspired to do a better job. They've got more neat gadgets, including a digital X-ray that doesn't require a lead vest and dictation software that allowed the hygienist to work more efficiently. When Dr. Skadron came in he was very friendly and had a great bed side manner. He looked over my X-rays with me and gave me an exam, it was quick and painless. He seemed like a nice guy. read more

DO NOT see this dentist if you have a tooth ache. I was a patient of this clinic until I needed real help. I had a toothache on a Thursday but the Dr. was out until Monday. I made an appointment for Monday and fully expected to receive care. Instead, the Dr. said I needed a root canal and sent me to the front desk. They scheduled me for one week from Wednesday and sent me home with antibiotics. After another night of throbbing pain, I called in the morning. I assumed I had to wait for the infection to go away but the office staff said no need to wait, they just didn't have an opening. They expected me to wait 8 more days with pain and infection for relief. I called another dentist who saw me the same day. He fixed my tooth and told me the infection was so bad it had entered my jaw bone. I am just glad I can sleep again and didn't have further complications. Yes, "nice" staff and good bedside manner, but if in pain, find another dentist. read more

West River Dental is pretty awesome. The office staff is friendly, they email reminders and Dr. Skadron has a gentle touch. That's about all one can ask of their dentist. Dr. Skadron also offers Botox and Rejuvaderm injections. At first glance, I was all "um, why is my dentist branching out from teeth to botox?" But after making chit-chat with the good Dr. I found out that dentists are good candidates for applying botox treatments due to their knowledge of facial nerves and musculature. Have been going to them for about three years until recently. It appears they may be more interested in making cash than anything else. I've felt pressured multiple times to get my teeth bleached by staff when I made it clear it was something I wasn't interested in. Dr. Skadron personally pressured me on every visit to get my wisdom teeth pulled when I've had zero issues with them. I missed one visit in three years due to a scheduling error on my behalf (which I take full responsibility for) and I just got a bill for $50. Will be looking elsewhere. read more

What's really nice about Dr. Michael Skadron is his use of the latest technology. He has a state-of-the-art 3-dimensional camera whose images plug into a fabricator, so when you need a crown you can have the whole thing done in one appointment. And if he needs to make an adjustment, that saves you another appointment. And he's a perfectionist. His dental hygienists are really great also. I've had alot of dental work done through out my life and some pretty good dentists, but no one as good as Michael. read more

After a unsatisfactory ordeal with a root canal I made an appointment for a crown with Dr skadron at west river dental care. After a employee of mine called in sick I had to cancel a appointment 20 minutes prior. A week later I received a bill for $75 for a missed appointment fee. At at the time of cancelation, I was not told of any fees nor have I ever seen a posting in his office of any fee. I understand as a fellow business person that a person has to charge for our time but at what expense? I would of rescheduled had I not received this bill or at any time was explained his missed appointment pllicy. I have since took my business elsewhere. read more

It had been five long years since I'd been to the dentist--five years since a stern hygienist had scolded me severely for my wicked failure to floss. I'd left that long-ago appointment with the moral certainty that I had failed, oral-hygienewise, as a man and a citizen. I did not rush back to any dentist after that. So. Now it's 2014, I'm changing jobs, and I don't know when I'll have dental insurance again; so I have to grit my teeth (sorry) and go to the dentist. Yelp reviews led me to hope that West River might be tolerable; grimly, I made an appointment. Long story short: not just tolerable, wonderful. The desk staff were kind and friendly over the phone--even when I called (twice, once for a good reason and once out of abject cowardice) to change my appointment. My hygienist Pat was charming in exactly the way you hope someone will be when she's looking in your mouth with a tiny mirror--crisp, Midwestern, tactful, kind. There is a picture on the ceiling right above the chair that you can gaze at while you are being dentisted: it is an illustration of many visual puns involving food. You will understand when you see it. After a vigorous cleaning and some encouraging, helpful, grown-up conversation about oral hygiene with Pat (possibly the best hygienist in the world), I met Dr. Skadron, who is the Platonic ideal of a dentist. He ought to play a dentist on television. He is charming, talkative, interested in everything, businesslike about what has to be done, gentle when dentisting, and patient with questions, of which I tend to have not few. He delivered the news that I needed no small amount of work done with such grace that I was somehow entirely undismayed, and I swear I actually looked forward to coming back and having it done. The work was in fact utterly painless, very quick, and perfect--and, through some billing magic, cost me far less than I though it would (your mileage may vary). West River Dental was happy to talk with me and was about to schedule an appointment until they discovered my young daughter has Ucare. She abruptly told me they are not accepting patients with that plan. I am a self-employed Minneapolis resident with a small business that helps many families in our local community. My youngest happened to qualify for Ucare under the new law. I have previously always had insurance through the school where I taught until I started my own business. To turn us away because of her type of insurance is discrimination. The receptionist claims they can. If it is legal, it is still terrible and bad business. Shame on you West River Dental! read more

I've been going to West River Dental for over year. My daughter and myself loved the dentist and the assistant who did the teeth cleaning. Had an appointment today. Showed up 10 mins early. Checked in with the woman who's seated to the left. The older looking blonde on the right mentioned an outstanding bill. Explained to her my insurance covers 100% of cleanings. I also explained I contacted my insurance provider and they were in the process of investigating. The woman persisted on addressing the bill and told me I should have called her. The whole time she had this arrogant smug look and spoke to me like I was some scumbag trying to rip them off for $50. After going back and forth I sat down and waited to be called. About 5 mins later she started again about the payment and I explained once again my insurance provider was investigating. I also voiced my concerns how I was being treated. I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude. She then asked if I wanted to speak with the doctor which I replied yes. While this woman went to grab the doctor the woman on the left gave me a nod. I mentioned I didn't like the way I was being treated and asked if this is this common? The woman agreed with me. The doctor came out looking angry like I did something wrong. I explained the situation with the insurance company and that I felt the woman was harassing me. I explained she was one of the first faces customers see and her attitude was awful. The whole time the woman was starring me down with her smug look. The doctor insisted this has never happened before and made me feel like it was my fault she had an attitude. I explained to him both my daughter and myself enjoyed coming there but I will not be talked to like some scumbag trying to pull a fast one on them. After several minutes the doctor took her side. I explained the woman on the left agreed the woman had an attitude. Both the doctor and the woman kind of pounced on her which led to the woman now retracting her statement. The doctor instead of trying to calm the situation insinuated to go elsewhere. I have a feeling by the reaction of the woman and the doctor that they are either married or dating. In all my years I have never dealt with an issue like this. The situation could have been easily resolved by the doctor. Instead it turned in to a huge disappointment. I ended the conversation and paid the outstanding balance even though I have a feeling the insurance company would have covered it. On a side note. I have never left negative feedback about any business or institutions. This will be the first and hopefully the last. read more
