BEWARE OF CENTER FOR ADVANCED EYE CARE. I made an appointment for options for my upper and lower eyelids. I asked if they accepted Medicare and AARP United Health for the appointment. With our insurance we pay no deductible or copays. They said YES. When checking in, they took copies of my insurance cards. I asked again if the appointment was covered by insurance. They said YES. Upon checking out, they charged $150 consultation fee. I told them to put it through my insurance and it would be covered. They said they don't do that. I paid with a credit card and was charged an additional 3%. So I'm assuming they just want cash. I've been to other doctors for the same reason. They billed my insurance and was paid in full. If this is their practice, they should tell people when they call for an appointment and let the person decide then if they want an appointment or not. read more

I Drive an hour to an hour and a half depending on Traffic. I followed my Opthalmologist Dr.Derek H. Ohlstien, MD from Fort Pierce to Vero one of the Finest Opthalmologist that you could have working with you on this journey of Macular. He gave me hope when I was in my Darkest Unimaginable Moments in my Life , He is Compassionate about his job, Thoughtful and Attentive to the Needs of his Patients. Out of the several I'd been seen by prior he is a 10 I Trust him Percent with my Eyes as Well as my Life. I was devastated when he left Fort Pierce and took me 6 months to find him and I Feel so Blessed to have found him I cried every time I had a Visit and would ask them where he went and they told me he had went on vacation and he just Never Returned..I Never Caved or Gave up. Then my Left Eye began to Go South and I'd need injections .. That's when I was Introduced to Adam M. katz, MD my now Retina Specialist who does my injections. I really wasn't very Happy about him injecting my eyeball. DR. Ohlstien assured me I would be in Fine Hands I was Skeptical but I put my Faith in what Dr. Ohlstien had told me and Everything he told Me was exactly What I got and I began my journey with Dr Katz @ the ending of 2020 and here it is 2025 and Such an Amazing Retina Specialist he has All those Amazing Good Qualities of Dr.Ohlstien. I can't say enough positive things about this office! Everyone was so patient centered. Dr Schnell was simply the most kindhearted doctor I have ever encountered. He took so much time with me, was patient, honest and stayed with me through the entire process. I truly felt he cared about me. Dr Katz was very knowledgeable and just as kind. He explained everything so well and I never felt rushed or pressured. I am just starting my journey but I feel incredibly blessed that I was placed in the path with these doctors and their team! Rude, money, hungry and inefficient staff. What a shame! They enter the incorrect appointment time in their system and when you present the card that they gave you with a different time, no apology either you are sent home or wait forever to be seen. When they charge you for something, your insurance definitely covers and you question them on it and they tell your insurance company and it's incorrect and you correct them then you're rude and they start yelling at you. Don't ask for a supervisor because they claim they don't have one. I tend to believe them because if they did, I think they might treat their patients better. read more

I had two severe cataracts so I contacted them. Due to the whole Covid thing, it took quite awhile to get the surgeries I needed. Not their fault. Dr Olsteen was nice enough, but resisted on giving me and sedation. I'm very nervous with anything touching my eyes. When I requested sedation, the topic would be changed and not addressed. After threatening to cancel the surgery without sedation, they finally agreed. During surgery, they told me I had received sedation, but I was totally aware of everything. Also, while some of their staff is very friendly, Lisa in scheduling and a technician (I don't know her name,) were so rude. They should not be working with patients. All in all, I'm glad the whole ordeal is over. read more

Went there a few years ago, basically was okay. Post-covid, it is a disaster. A sign on the door says that, following CDC guidelines, mask wearing is optional, and that the staff will wear masks on request. The level of covid in Indian River County is currently "moderate", and the CDC guidelines recommend KN95 or N95 respirator masks in areas with moderate transmission rates, particularly when vulnerable populations are in a health-care environment. Not the flimsy surgical masks that the staff was intermittently wearing when they were in the examination roo0m. Further, one of the members of the staff was quite congested and sniffling, and forgot to tell us that we were expected to wait for a full half hour with nobody checking in on us (did she have covid? maybe.) When the Doctor finally came, he ostentatiously pulled his flimsy surgical mask away from his face when talking with us -- was he signalling his complete contempt for nearly 90 year old patients with dozens of health conditions, or was he the sort of arrogant Doctor who believe the rules dont apply him? I'll never know, because there is no way I am ever going back to that horrible place. We spent almost two hours in their building, including ten unnecessary minutes for them to print out the prescription. We had some questions for their optometry department, but they were so understaffed that it would have taken another half hour for them to answer a ten second question. read more

I had my annual eye exam 1/22/24. I saw multiple techs and then the doctor, I was there for almost 2 hrs.. After I saw the doctor a tech determined that my eye exam had discrepancies and the prescription for my glasses was read incorrectly. If that were not enough the tech insisted on re-checking my left eye while my eyes were fully dilated. I explained to her that I do not see well with the dilation, and my left eye is weaker than my right eye. This very very rude tech proceeded with the exam. When I could not read any of the letters, she became very sarcastic and accusatory that I was not telling the truth about not being able to see the letters. The tech was aggressive and told me because of the discrepancies that "if your glasses break, we will not give you a prescription, you will have to come back for another exam". Another exam? After 2 hrs., multiple techs and procedures, the doctor, and a Medicare charge? Will I have to pay for another exam? I will never go back to the Center for Advanced Eye Care in Vero Beach, FL. read more

Top Notch service 5 Stars Dr. Ohlstein, Dr. Schnell, and the rest of their Staff took excellent care of my Husband who got a piece of metal two thirds of the way in his eye while grinding a piece of metal. He spent two days in agonizing pain after the local ER told him there was nothing in his eye. Dr. Ohlstein, Dr. Schnell, and their Staff got him in on a Friday, when no one else was available and got the metal right out. The next day his eye was much better and we are so appreciative. I took my neighbor there for cataract surgery and they provide excellent customer service. The doctor was great and they are very efficient. The only strange issue was while the doctor accepted his insurance for his fee; however, they did not accept his insurance for the use of the facility! So he had to pay cash for the facility charge! To begin with, this eye center is immaculate! Everything is spotless and state of the art. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. I had an eye exam performed by Erin, she was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone on the staff was very kind, especially the doctors! I would recommend The Center For Advanced Eye Care to anyone looking for any eye procedure. They also have a wide selection of attractive prescription lenses. read more

The visit and exam were very good, but I made the appointment for a regular eye exam that is covered by my insurance. I received a bill from my insurance for Dr. Katz. I called the office and they said this is not a regular exam it's for people with problems. Well, when I called to make the appointment, I told the person that I just needed a yearly eye exam and that I was not having any issues. She should have told me that this was not the place to make an appt. I also asked the front desk person and the technician when I got there if this was going to be covered by my insurance. They both said yes. To top it off I had to pay $49.00 for my eye prescription. Why didn't anyone inform me that it was going to cost me. Why couldn't this be put against the Vision Ins. It was a vision exam, just like all the other exams I've had for the last 50 years with Dr's. They need to do something about this. It's just not right! read more

Good at first and in person but can't get them to return calls or to follow up with there patients for surgery. They said they would call me by the end of the day never got a call back. Called them two days later got a voice mail left message never got a call back. I've called many times since but then a week later I called and asked for the manager got a call back in minutes. Manager said he would have the girl that was ignoring me and was handling my case call me back has been another week now no call at this point if I ever get them to do there part I wouldn't use them for the surgery I'll take my business elsewhere. It's sad that this is actually the norm in the medical field no one cares about the patients anymore because if they lose a few who cares there's thousands more lining up. Just wish more companies cared this one dose not so I will try another probably to the same kind of disappointment. read more

Staff is competent and friendly, latest in medical technology. The outside of the building is impressive and the interior elegant with TVs and leather chairs. Maintaining the facility may influence the cost to,patients. There is very limited selection of inexpensive glasses but an extensive inventory of high-end glasses. They do not take insurance for glasses but gave me a prescription to take to another facility that does. In retrospect I think this is an excellent medical center for people who have a serious condition that requires this level of care, and for those patients who have the resources to pay for high-end glasses. I would recommend Advanced Eye Care for those patients. I wrote a review that was more negative and hadn't been able to locate it and replace it with this one. Upon further analysis I realized because a facility doesn't meet my personal needs doesn't mean it doesn't provide high-level care. read more
