Pros: Majority of staff is in recovery The phase model works really well 12 step oriented (i.e. AA is still a huge part of my life post-graduating) Most residential/living situations are really nice New haven is a nice little city to get sober in, and Turnbridge encourages clients to become a part of the community. I met some great people Learned how to have fun in recovery (lots of activities to take advantage of) Cons: Very expensive, for-profit organization (naturally raises some questions and skepticism among clients and new haven recovery community) Majority of staff is in recovery (in general, alcoholics and addicts are not the most organized and punctual of people) Lack of communication Clinical services are hit or miss (I had a few bad experiences, though there are also some amazing clinicians working there) As a 26 year old who has lived independently, I was there for recovery, not to learn how to be an adult. There are aspects of the program that felt a little juvenile and unnecessary to me, especially in phase II. If parents are paying (95% of the time this is the case), it often feels like case managers treat the parents as the clients and take away the client's autonomy... often hear things like "my parents have drank the turnbridge kool-aid and I'm stuck here" The biggest problem I had: I got some serious pushback when my family and I felt it was time for me to discharge. Possibly some ethical boundaries were crossed but ended up working out in the end and I graduated at 7.5 months with Turnbridge's support and blessing. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to go through Turnbridge, and I can tell they did their best to meet me where I was at and be flexible with what my family and I were looking for. If you are ready to get sober, can afford it, and have the flexibility to take a year out of your life, this is a good place.

I spent approximately 19 months at Turnbridge from September 2021 through May 2023. My family paid…read morea substantial amount of money because we believed I would receive safe, professional, trauma-informed treatment. My lived experience was profoundly different. I personally witnessed staff replay CCTV footage of serious client-on-client violence for groups of clients while laughing and mocking the person being attacked. After I was assaulted with a heavy wooden chair at 90 Ford Street, I remember staff later replaying the footage and mocking me for flinching. I also disclosed a sexual-boundary incident involving another client to people in the Turnbridge environment while a staff member was present. I do not recall receiving a formal interview, separation plan, or meaningful protection afterward, and the harassment continued. During an asthma attack, I asked a staff member for my prescribed inhaler and was initially refused because he claimed I was "faking it" and "getting high" from albuterol. My PlayStation 4 also disappeared from a Turnbridge residence, and I do not remember any meaningful investigation, report, recovery effort, or reimbursement process. My intake experience also raised serious concerns. During the drive to Turnbridge, I openly told friends that I believed I was entering a 28-day program. I remember signing contracts at 189 Orange Street before being told by the staff member who transported me that Turnbridge was actually a year-long program. These were not isolated personality conflicts. They raised recurring questions about supervision, medical access, sexual-safety complaints, informed consent, missing property, incident documentation, staff conduct, and how criticism was handled. I have since compiled a detailed evidence memo that distinguishes firsthand experiences from secondhand allegations and identifies records that should exist. Connecticut DPH has opened an investigation into care and services provided by Turnbridge. That investigation is ongoing and is not a final finding. Parents should ask for written answers about incident reports, CCTV access, medical protocols, client grievances, sexual-safety procedures, staff vetting, property-loss policies, expected program length, and what happens when a client says they feel unsafe or wants to leave. Recovery is necessary. Humiliation, indifference, and preventable risk are not treatment.

The first time I went here it was simply phenomenal everyone got along with each other and everyone wanted to see everyone grow and be a better person. The second time around not so much in my opinion the patients would judge the person more just for playing a game on the phone during break time not during the group session when we have to talk no during break time it's not really the other person business anyways everyone is going for themselves not to be picked on for texting or playing a game on the phone when you have that initial break. When I was sitting in my chair one of the patients got up and pretended to kick me in the shin I never had that issue happen to me anywhere with adults in a professional setting. I was really glad Sam stood up for me and took him out of the room and told his ass where to go because it isn't normal for a patient to go up to another patient and start pretending to kick him or say your so angry and can't control yourself when the other person isn't bothering you IOP should be a place of non judgement because if your going some way that causes you to have more anxiety that's not the place anyone with mental health issues should be. I still remember when I was sitting outside having a panic attack at the table by the bathroom and some old worker walked in front of me not even asking are you ok he just continued to walk back and fourth I was like wow nice place. The only person here that always supported me was Samantha even when pot was legal they wanted to breathalyzer me before going in the place why just why Sam made sure to hold the assholes off my back thank you for that? Even the doctor sees me having a panic attack and she didn't care she just went back into her room. The thing that got me here is when I came back for my second week one of female chaplains looked at me in front of everyone and said o you are back Chris is that really any of your business your business should preach and walk and talk like Jesus not worrying it's someone second time around in group that just made everyone else in the room turn and look at me. I mean it's really sad when your patients are complaining there isn't no snacks and there spoiled snacks from last year and Griffin didn't care nice place there was only one worker that did care and made sure everything was perfect and her name was Sam if your looking to feel better mentally just trust Sam because she is the only worker here that will actually take the time to listen and care not to shove a pill down your throat for a paycheck she most definitely deserves a raise working amongst her other workers it has to be stressful doing everyone else job for them. All and all if you need to talk not all the patients in the room here are assholes the second time around there were a few that were not judgemental she actually seen my panic attack and gave me a hug a man doesn't forget ever what happens she was even nice enough to donate 50 bucks twords me getting another bunny that's a true person right there. Sam always did make me feel safe and secure without her in charge the place and the rest of the staff in charge is a shit show plain and simple. One thing I can say Sam you deserve your own office if I was you have the patients you have now and swap them to a place your running in charge because you care for the patient not what's in there Pocket.

Dan came to our home for an interview and presented a plan that was organized, complete, and reasonable. My husband felt the most comfortable with him out of the several companies we interviewed. I especially liked the boudaries he established as there was no guesswork on my part as to what was to be provided and what was to be expected. He also educated us about the difference between companies who had their own employees and those who used subcontractors. That being said we signed on the dotted line and began using their services. Kathy, Suzanne, and Joy were my husband's caregivers. All three were wonderful to work with. My husband, who was extremely reluctant to use outside help, ended up loving them all. He felt attended to and well cared for. Every day he told me that they were wonderful. I feel like they helped me just as much as they helped him because 90% of my housework was taken care of too. I continued to work part time during my husband's illness in order to try and maintain my sanity. Their help allowed me to do that and attend to and love him when I was home. I was able to care for him instead of accomplishing household tasks, feeling frustrated and angry. They were flexible in accomodating schedule changes as his needs increased over time. The quality of our lives under these difficult circumstances was the best that it could be because of the care they provided. I would use them again in a heartbeat. Thank you.
