It seems that they finally got the office staff sorted out and they are doing far better at being responsive to patient needs. Also the PA's they have on staff have been here a while instead of seeing someone new every visit. Unfortunately, there are still too many mistakes being made for a business you have to entrust your health to. I was sent here by MY spine specialist from another clinic. - I was sent there just to have a shot administered, and the physician that saw me refused to do the shot and wanted to start acting as my dr. He would not listen to me about why the only reason I was even there, and just wanted his voice to be heard and not mine. I'm now having to prolong my treatment and pain due to the dr at this location not doing what i was sent there for, and I'm back at square one to get my Referals approved, so I can go to another physician for the shot to be administered. Went to this office 5 times, every visit the "dr." Was 20 to 40 min late. Everyone in the office had bad attitudes and the vibe is somber. So sad inside and no service. The phones never get answered and worse the doctors do not care about you. Just another paper mill for insurance companies. Go elsewhere for actual help for spine conditions. read more

I've been going to this doctor office for about four years now. I have a lot of respect for everyone there especially in Keystone. I had the upmost respect for Dr. Shin until today's appointment with him. I've never had a doctor be so rude and basically disrespectful. He rushed the appointment by talking over me and cutting me off when I was answering his questions. It was very unexpected. After I checked him about how he was towards me he didn't seem to care so I said we're done here and left. He tried to say sorry but his tone had zero sincerity to it and I told him he should be sorry. It took a lot for me to get to this appointment today and gas is not cheap for my truck. Regardless Dr Shin was out of line and should not talk to anyone the way he did me. I was extremely disappointed and won't be seeing him again. He's not my primary doctor, but I'm familiar with him. Hmm that's interesting, I was the first person to actually write a review for this place but it was "mysteriously" deleted or someone had report it I'm assuming? Well here goes the same review the second time, because I feel that people should know the truth. My fiancé was recommended to this place by Dr. Wright from Specific Chiropractic for his lower back pain. His back was in so much pain there were times where he could not stand up straight. He met with Dr. Carl Shin and told him about what had happened (we were in a bad car accident) as well as giving him an overview of his past back issues following up to the car accident. Dr. Carl Shin didn't even check my fiancé's back, instead he sat him down & told him about a story of a body builder that shattered his spine & that it was "mind over matter", that eventually the body builder healed up because he wasn't even thinking about the pain... Uhh WHAT?! So pretty much he was telling my fiancé that it was "all in his head". & all the pain that he is feeling is just him imagination... :| BUT WAIT... THERE'S MORE! The bill comes & they charged him $700... FOR NOTHING! No exam, no recommendations other than "don't think about the pain & it'll go away" I would not recommend this place to anyone who actually have serious or real back problems, unless you want to pay $700 for story time & be told "mind over matter" Also, months has gone by & my fiancé's back is still in pain. Even after he tried what Dr. Carl Shin has said, which was not to think about the pain... It didn't work, buddy! & in all honest, these are the type of people who should not practice medicine. They're out here taking advantage of people who are actually in pain & suffering, it's disgusting what kind of business they're running. If I could give this office a zero I would. Today, my husband and I arrived at the office at 8:30 a.m. for my husband's 8:45 a.m. appointment. After we checked in, four or five people checked in and were called in before we were. At around 8:50 a.m., the assistant came and got us. The door was left open to the office, and we waited for about 20-25 minutes, 9:10-9:15 a.m. to see the doctor. During this time that we were waiting, there was a man in the room next to us that was yelling "Is Dr. Shin here?" and calling the office only to reach a voicemail. Kelly, the physician's assistant, came in and said hi, to which my husband said he wanted to see the doctor and that was who his appointment was scheduled with. Kelly ask if there was a reason he wanted to see the doctor and my husband told her. My husband ask her why she doesn't document what he tells her about his falling and about why his walker wasn't ordered. Kelly got snippy and said that she had put in the notes that my husband falls at least a couple times a week and apologized for not ordering the walker. Kelly told my husband she would see what she could do about seeing the doctor today. Less than ten minutes later, two assistants came to the door and told us that we needed to go wait in the lobby. My husband and I both told them that we had an appointment. Maria yelled at us that there were other patients waiting to be seen, the room we were in was not our provider's room and that we needed to go to the lobby. So, we left the room and went to the lobby. We sat down and then about five minutes later I went to the front desk and asked the receptionist when my husband was going to be seen, that he was supposed to be seen by the Dr. and that he had talked to a gentleman a month ago and confirmed that he was going to see the doctor. She then said that she would check when my husband was going to be seen with the doctor. We sat down and about ten minutes later, I went to the counter to see when he was going to be seen and the receptionist said she was just waiting for them to tell her. I went back and sat down, and my husband said he needed to step out for a minute. Not two minutes later, the rude assistant, Maria, came to the door and called my husband's name. My husband came in and we went in Room 2, which was the same room that the gentleman before was yelling if Dr. Shin was there. About five minutes later, Dr. Shin came in and leaned against the table and said, "We don't yell here." My husband wasn't yelling, Dr. Shin said what do you need and when my husband started to tell him what happened, Dr. Shin cut him off and said are you going to keep complaining or are we finished. My husband said that he was referred to Dr. Shin because he was a good doctor and Dr. Shin stated, "I'm not a good doctor". My husband asked him why are you practicing then? Dr. Shin told him that he would help him find another doctor, to which my husband said he would find his own doctor. My husband asked Dr. Shin if he was going to let him talk, and Dr. Shin said no, we were done. Dr. Shin was very rude, didn't listen to what my husband was trying to tell him, cut him off and told him that he wasn't going to be his doctor anymore. My husband wanted to see the doctor because his surgeon, had a note that he wanted my husband to give him and my husband wanted to speak to the doctor about this. My husband also wanted to talk to Dr. Shin to ask him why a walker wasn't ordered for him after being discussed at the prior appointment with Kelly and why it wasn't documented about what my husband had discussed with Kelly in prior appointments. I have never seen a patient, whether my husband or family member, be treated with such disrespect, rudeness, arrogance, or bad mannerism by a doctor in my life. Dr. Shin should not be in practice and his staff members need to be taught customer service skills. This whole office is a mess. Don't go to Dr. Shin, especially since by his own admission, he's not a good doctor. read more

Dr. Shin at the Center for Intrerdisciplinary Spine/Keystone is the best pain doctor I have ever seen or even heard of. He takes the time to not only diagnose you but gives you the "why" in a way that you can understand it. To call him a pro would be an insult as he is the kind of doctor who teaches other doctors about pain and how it actually works in the brain. Together with his team at Keystone, they are redefining chronic pain treatment and if you get a chance, you need to go see him. Absolutely changed my life 100%.......... No question. read more

From way back Dr. Shin along with his staff took took the time and care to see to my needs of referrals for my cronic pain. Been seeing Dr. Jason and am very happy with his care and honesty. As far as covid goes. The waiting area is socially distanced w temps taken after you are called in. Suggest that should happen upon check in. Dr Shin and the Functional Restoration Program is not a miracle fix or cure. If you are looking for that, then all I can say is good luck! If you are dependent on medication and want to seek that route, then his philosophy, research and programs are not for you. Now, if you are tired of losing the life you had and want to get it back and can handle discomfort with physical effort, then this is something to look at in depth. Dont do this with a close mind, a dependency on medication or because insurance/attorney says you have to. Nothing comes easy in life...success no matter what takes effort/consistency! I have been seeing Dr Shin for 2 years and yes I was skeptical and frustrated. I had opted for Surgery after 19 months and the frustration of the pain. I can say with the PT, my flexibility had returned, but the pain had not subsided. I wanted my life back and did not want to rely on medication! I ended up with a fusion and cage inserted into my lumbar area. The recovery was not easy and took work, but as I said, I wanted my life back!! Due to the fires and threat of evacuation, i overexerted myself and brought alot of mental fear as well as physical discomfort back. Dr Shin said I recovered from my surgery and I had to move to show my mind and body I could recover. I am not a weak person and dont like to sit on my ass and pity life. I wanted my life back! I was enrolled in the Keystone Functional Restoration Program, which is 7 weeks. Yes, I was skeptical but You only get out of life, what you put into it. I set goals for myself and went with an open mind. I will admit at first, I was like this was bullshit, but stayed open. The staff was very open and friendly. The environment is outstanding! You will attend a class with other people who understand and can relate to your trials and tribulations. You grow, develop and motivate each other. The Staff supports and educate in many ways that keep you motivated. You will exercise and be sore at first and if this is not you or you are scared to work hard for an end result or are just negative, then do not attend. This is a blunt statement, if you want pity or make excuses, stay home and accept your life. The classroom classes are for the most part informative. The Health education and Physical Fitness/Training are outstanding! I can say Im not cured, however i never expected to attain that. I knew going into this, that at this point an injury never fully recovers. I wanted and could accept 80% of recovery so I could snowboard, jetski, mtn bike, jiu jitsu and just be somewhat active again. After 7 weeks and completion of the course, I have a better mindset, physical condition and have almost eliminated the daily need for ibuprofen. Dont get me wrong, I still have discomfort (dont use the word pain anymore) and get sore, but I am now becoming more active. Dr Shin gave me the green light to try snowboarding again and my mindset is right to do it. Its not a miracle cure, but if you miss your old life and mentally can accept a challenge, then if given the opportunity attend this class. read more

This is the best experience I have had during my recovery. The staff is amazing!!!! Dr.Shin pulls no punches when it comes down to healing the body . I am Proof! Keystone functional rehabilitation is where you want to be for you injury. I will be Graduating from this program tomorrow and before I came I had a bunch of labels on me like if I move the wrong way I can get paralyzed due to back injury. I must admit it limited my ability to live because I was afraid to move the wrong way. I had no social life I was depressed and had no purpose. This was 7 weeks ago. Today I have new tools to apply to my life that gives me a better quality of life. I now can enjoy my life with my children's activities as well as my social life in a mindful way. Dr. Carl Shin's Functional Restoration Program is hard work and should be available to patients having chronic pain. I now have techniques and methods to deal with acute (short) and chronic pain (over three months). The training includes learning when my brain is in a protective mode and I then recognize that my pain is controlling my life choices. My pain is not gone and comes back many times with vengeance...however, pain is not the focus of my life now. Pain and disability are terrible. However, if the opportunity and access to this program are available...then choose to take the hard 6-week program to take control of your future. I control my life. read more

Shin is a Fraud! If you have a injury case don't go see him. He will lie to your face about sending in referrals to EDD and work comp. I have been battling with EDD for over a year because they claim Shins office never sent in the documents to get my benefits started. The entire time Shin has claimed he did. I asked him today to show me proof and he left the room and after a while came back and claimed they had ongoing computer issues and it never was sent. This man will also leave you injured and in pain and refuse to give you pain meds, to him everything is in your head. He will just have you come in and spend very little time with you and not listen. I told him today that I have been having major spasms and have been falling down. He response was ..Follow me and we went out into the hallway. With out saying anything he shot into his office. I went into the waiting room and told the girls at the counter what just happened. They both just laughed! I think this place is all just a scam from the front of the office to the back the office. I knew I was in trouble when Dr. Shin started making preposterous statements in his lectures, e.g., "Depressed people don't commit suicide because they're too lazy." They filled a lot of space by making us watch ridiculous youtube videos that I could have watched at home. For those who are vulnerable to COVID, please do not risk it by going to this horrible office, and even more horrible doctor. There was absolutely no reason why I couldn't have done this via phone/video, as, in the end, he did nothing for me. As for COVID risk, there was no one taking patients' temperatures at the front. Temperatures weren't taken until you got in the exam room, which means you risked exposure to someone with active COVID for the time you were sitting in the crowded waiting room--which for me was 45 minutes! By 3:30pm, the waiting area was so crowded that patients were sitting less than 3 feet from each other. Some patients were wearing masks so thin you could see the outline of their facial features Staff assured me that the tablet they handed me was sanitized, but when I was finished with it, I set it on the counter and watched while they handed it to another patient without sanitizing it! Staff were wearing gloves, but they handled lots of contaminated things while simultaneously handing patients "sanitized" clipboards, pens, etc. The clipboards were old wood--like an old wood cutting board. Wood is a notorious surface for picking up bacteria and viruses, and getting embedded in the fibers. The CDC acknowledges airborne transmission can occur, especially in poorly ventilated spaces. The front door should have been kept open for better ventilation AND so that every patient wasn't grabbing and contaminating the doorknob! Sitting in the waiting room--particularly when it got crowded--was like sitting on an airplane with stuffy, recycled COVID air! As if that wasn't bad enough, Dr. Shin had no idea who referred me or why I was there, then proceeded to tell me that the only thing he could do for me was add me to a pain management group! I had to drive all the way to his nasty office, just to be told he didn't know why I was there and he could do nothing for me? Are you kidding me? I had two serious accidents, and have been in severe pain for nearly a decade. I tried every pain management trick in the book, all unsuccessful. I am NOT a fan of medication, and held out as long as I could, but the pain is only getting worse. I can't go on living with the pain I'm in, but all this doctor could offer me was a group to "share tips" and trick with. No one should have to be in this COVID-risky environment AND be asked to sit in a group of potential asymptomatic COVID carriers. Has this awful doctor ever heard about video groups? If the way they "manage" COVID in their office is any indication of how safe their groups are, then forget it! This place should be reported to the Health Department. Useless! I have severe pain from gastrointestinal disorders that never goes away. I had hoped, after about a year without a pain doctor after moving, that I'd have some relief. It took about six months (and four pointless visits) to get anything accomplished here. For the procedure, they didn't even offer sedation! So they poked my back with significant discomfort. How in the world is this a pain management clinic? They never gave me a prescription and I remained in agony for months. I still am. Zero stars. Stay far away. Dr Shin, Dr Kim, Dr Yoon. Bad. Something is very wrong at this office. 3 weeks ago when I had a cervical and Lumbar MRI. I stood there as open Advantage MRI sent them the report. The office of Dr. Shin said they didn't get it even though they have the correct fax. I had them refax it still said not recieved. I went and picked up a copy and drove it to Dr Shin's office they made a copy at the front office. The next day they say they never received it. I said I brought it in in person yesterday. Now I need a consult with a surgeon Dr Shin's office said they faxed it over on Monday this week here it is Wednesday p.m. and I told Dr Shin's office this morning by phone and e-mail they have to have a requirement form filled out that did not get sent over Monday with the report. This a.m. the surgeon's office faxed over a requirement form to be filled out to the correct fax at 5pm I'm told they never received it. At 4:40 p.m. Michelle says do you think you can call the surgeon's office and have them double-check to see if they have it it took me 30 minutes they checked and they do not have it. What the heck is this office doing with the faxes that nobody can find anything. I'm a patient in pain and should not have to keep trying to figure out where their paperwork is. He cares about his patients and does not hand out medication like candy. He cares for his patients on an individual basis and has an outstanding office staff. My name is Sandi and I was referred to this office from Capital Ortho to be treated for my 2006 back injury. I was only seen in Dr. Shins office twice, and twice was more than enough. In order to be scheduled for an appointment you will need to call the office about 56 times and only then will you be able to speak with someone who MIGHT know what they are talking about (Michelle) Literally every time I call there is a new employee so clearly he treats his employees like his patients, poorly. During my appointments the Dr. was very plain and straight faced. I did not feel welcome at all. Once my appointment was over both times he darted out and prescriptions were never sent to the pharmacy like he stated. From what I understand this man has been practicing medicine for almost 20 years and has only one decent review. Workers compensation is already a hard road to walk, GO ELSEWHERE.
