Dr. Wentz informed me, Dr. Giuliari has over 20 years of experience and is highly regarded in his profession. Associated Vetreoretinal Uveitis Consultants have several physicians in this group located at 10585 N. Meridian Street in Carmel, off 31 and 106th Street ramp. It is extremely easy to find the office building. An Avon location opened 4/15/24 on US Highway 36, Rockville Road, if you prefer the west side. The office building has a free, large surface parking lot with many handicap parking spaces. The check-in office staff were friendly and appeared to have a routine in place that moved patients in a timely manner. The internal offices you visit after being called back have a specific function with a large waiting room located in the center of the offices. Eye exams, various eye equipment are in each room, and the doctors exam rooms move quickly with little wait time. Each staff member I worked with for each procedure was terrific to work with during all my visits. Dr. Guirliari was easy to talk with, friendly, knowledgeable, well-spoken, and thorough. He asked several times if he had answered all my questions or concerns. The staff also provided many pamphlets and papers explaining each step before and after surgery, instructions I had to follow, and explaining details of various diagnoses found. After several tests and measurements, Dr. Guiliari confirmed Dr. Wentz's diagnosis of a macular hole in my left eye that requires surgery. Basically, a gas bubble had to be inserted into my left eye. Surgery was scheduled just a mile from Dr. Guiliari's office at IU Spring Mill Surgery Center, which is known as a state-of-the-art ophthalmology surgery center on the second floor. They have a free, large surface parking lot with many handicap parking spaces. All the staff was phenomenal but more about the surgery center in their review. Dr. Guiliari was again thorough and reassuring, plus I felt very safe and comfortable in his care. My anesthesiologists, I think his name was Dr. Temple, and he was amazing!! He kept me as calm as possible and informed me of each step he and the staff were performing while prepping me for surgery. If you need a retinal specialist, I can highly recommend Dr. Guiliari, along with IU Health Spring Mill Surgery Center.

At first sight, and with his cool composure, he listened attentively to what I had experienced. He took his time to re-explain my problem with textbook images and what may likely happen during my treatment. He was well composed, very articulate, and reassuring. It appeared that he has done similar interventions before and had long years of experience. I felt very comfortable though remained worried at the mention of getting a few injections in my left eye that had the problem during the treatment. I remember taking injections on my buttocks many years ago and the thought of having similar injection, with the long, pointed, and sharp needles in my eye gave me goose bumps, sleepless nights, and fearful imaginations in the days leading to the first injection. The clinic is very clean, well-organized, and a trained staff that knows exactly what to do at every turn. After the preliminaries on the first visit, I returned a week later for the first injection. My blood pressure was taken, restated my date of birth, and read the chart with each of the eyes. The second stop, in another room, was to have images of my eyes taken, and the third was the biggest encounter with the doctor, the injection. Fearful that I won't be able to drive back home, my 24-year-old son, a Purdue University graduate, drove me to the clinic. In order not to let him notice how panicky I was, as his dad, his hero, I asked him to go back home and would call him when everything was done. In a few minutes after the images were taken, I was led in another room where I was to meet Dr. Giuliari. Another Assistant did the preliminaries with liquid drops on my eye. Now came the drama. Dr. Giuliari went through the images, explained what will happen during the treatment, and the goal. He came over to the right side of the chair, explained every step that he took: this medication is for this, look up straight and follow my fingers, this is to keep your eye open, etc. I did as he instructed. I remembered from my High School biology days that the heart beats 70 times a minute. I realized that mine was more than ten times that rate with shallow breaths, and probably the Doctor realized it too. I grabbed the arms of the chair very tight and had they not been securely screwed; they would have come out. And then he said this one will put a little pressure on your eye, a pressure that I did not feel in anticipation of the needle. After that, he tapped me gently on the right shoulder, saying, "you are done". What! Where is the injection? I took a very deep breath, trying to control the palpitations. Is the nightmare over, for real! He was professional, friendly, caring, as he looked to our next appointment. I left the hospital feeling good but a bit ashamed that I had imagined things different. Arriving back home, everyone expected to a gauze or a bandage over my left eye. They were afraid for me. How then would I explain that it was like 'liking a cone of ice cream' but still had to pretend to be brave like coming from a battlefield unscathed. Subsequent injections were like a walk in the park, relaxed, while my eye continued to heal. Dr. Giuliari is one of the best in his field, highly experienced, well-educated, and does his work with passion.

My first operation the drops I was supposed to put in my eye was missing one that Dr. David Price forgot to give me. My right eye was the first for the Cataract surgery. Nurse stab me 3 times in my hand and the side of my arm instead of the pencil size ones on my arm. After a lot of drops in my eye to numb it prior to surgery. Nothing was put in the IV stabbed in my arm. While operating I experienced pain told him, he said give him some fentanyl. Started again more pain gave me some more. After surgery he tells me that my retina was detaching itself. I'm thinking maybe that's why I felt the pain. I now have a smoky cloud in my eye and it's spreading and was told to put eye drops in twice a day till August. So mean while my right eye doesn't have 20/20 like it's supposed to be. Can't wear my glasses because I can't see out of my right eye through the lens. I'm a Marine Corp Veteran maybe that's his problem. I still have another eye to go.

That may be because all they hire is thin, attractive 20 somethings that have no idea about customer service. I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow and they canceled me! The scheduler called for a post op follow up. After that was done I complained that I didn't even have my surgery time. They expect their patients to drop everything the day before surgery and come running when they figure out how many cattle they can run through for maximum profits. So, this irritated Ms Jr Miss and she became even ruder than before. I said "I'm just asking you to pass it on to management, you don't have to be a bitch about it. It wasn't 10 minutes later and I got a call from the office manager. She said I needed to come in that day to talk to Dr Price about the way I had treated his employee or they wouldn't do the surgery. It was like being called to the principals office. They didn't bother to even ask my side of the story. Of course I refused, so they canceled me after being scheduled and pre-paying. In hindsight I'm glad it was called off. If they are this unprofessional on the business side I don't want to trust my eyes to them in the operating room. I post this knowing that same rude office manager is going to post some polite reply for the sake of public image. She'll politely post it when she didn't give me the time of day one on one. I wonder if Dr Price has the sack to call me or better yet, come to my office. Just remember doc, what goes around, comes around.

The office is conveniently located off of the 106th Street exit on Meridian Street. There is a large parking lot with many handicapped parking spaces that were well maintained and salted in this bitter cold weather. This was a very busy office when we arrived for a 1:00 appointment. We walked in behind 6 other individuals but with 4 check-in windows we moved quickly. The staff was friendly and helpful explaining the new patient paperwork. The waiting area has ample seating, comfortable chairs and a large flat screen to entertain us during our short wait. This is one efficient medical group. Each step in the process (testing, consultation and Laser procedure for us) has a separate office and waiting area (just steps from each other) as you progress down the hall. The wait was less than 10 minutes before the MA took us back for initial testing. She was so nice, very efficient, knowledgeable and reassuring. The Physician consultation and exam was thorough, comprehensive and professional. We soon realized the laser repair was occurring next...not at another appointment. After confirming diagnosis we moved to the laser procedure room waiting area. The laser room assistant was a little abrupt here (without warning grabbing his head back for drops) and lacked the bedside manner we experienced earlier. Other than this minor annoyance the entire experience proceeded smoothly and in less than 15 minutes. The entire visit and process took right at two hours. We really expected at least two separate appointments and appreciated the efficiency of this office. We highly recommend Dr. Prall and the group Associated Vitreoretinal and Uveitis. Just rolls off the lips, right?...lol.

***update*** Today I…read morewent for my final check-up and to go back to my fav contact lens. We did a full regular eye exam after. The nurses told me about taking pictures of my retina but that's on top of the regular eye exam. I thought I didn't need it since I was young so I declined to pay $40 or something. There was no negative feeling from the nurse at all. Then I had the check-up with the doctor. Conversation flowed nicely. Again I didn't feel rushed nor did I feel like the doctor was more interested to talk then to check my eye. The eye exam itself went by efficiently. Then she asked me if I had any other injuries. I said yes, I think there was a scar at the back of my eye. She then told me it's better for her to look at my eye with the retina picture (I think that's what it was called) because she wants to make sure my vision is fine. However she told me there will be no charge. THIS IS A DOCTOR THAT CARES ALOT MORE ABOUT HER PATIENTS than money. Because she's worried & insisted on seeing it, she does not want a $40 to stand in the way. I'm so glad I found her & her clinic when my eyes are in distress. I cannot say enough good things about this doctor & the staff. I came in with extreme eye pain & was very freaked out & scared. The staff there was very understanding, efficient & nice. The form was filled out quickly & we waited for about 15min or so. Then the nurse came in, lead us to a room & wrote down my symptoms. I didn't feel rushed or being questioned too much. Then 5 min later, dr.Burford came in. She was very gentle but firm when she put in eye drops for me. Told me what it was for, & explained everything thoroughly. Then she took careful & thorough look at my eye. After she told me I had 70% cornea abrasion, & assured me it would heal in 3-4 days. Talked in a way that made my worries go away, & reassured me that I would still be able to see. Then she wanted to see me for follow-up after, but my husband works & no one can drive me. Her staff gave me a call the next day, asked how I was doing & even offered to pick me up for my follow up. I thought it got better, so I didn't want to trouble them. Then in the afternoon it began hurting again. So I sent her a message, and she saw me after hours. And she said she wants to see the next day too even if it's after they close to make sure we catch any sign of an infection early. She's just so kind & understanding, and just very responsible as a doctor. I'm so lucky I found her on Yelp.
