Value is good, and they have local knowledge. We saved nearly $200 over Budget by switching to Centerline. Do yourself a favor, and unless you're staying around Christiansted or Fredericksted, GET A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. We had a flat during our trip (potholes are BAD on St. Croix in many places), and needed fast help because the wheel was seized to the hub. We called at 8 a.m., they got to our cottage in Came Bay before 9 a.m. and had it switched out in time for us to make our tour at Cruzan Rum factory at 10 a.m. We turn the jeep back in tomorrow. Hoping that goes smoothly - the hole in the tire will cost us an extra $10, which is reasonable, we thought. read more

For our trip to St Croix, Marjan and I rented from Centerline, a local St Croix company. Exiting the plane, the rental booths are found outside, underneath a covered walkway. We were advised to secure our rental before we retrieved our luggage, as it takes some time for luggage to be removed from the plane. This proved to be good advice! The rental agent was friendly and polite, filling our reserved order for a Toyota Camry. Our friends had visited the island one month previous, and told that a jeep type vehicle was really not necessary. The vehicle was in good order, basic, but very satisfactory for our purposes. We drove the car all over the island, from our hotel in Fredericksted, to Christiansted, through back roads, through a rain forest, to different beaches and restaurants. One important word of caution. Roads on St Croix are everywhere marked with potholes, so caution is the word! We drove a bit slower than we normally would, fearing we might damage the vehicle, blow a tire etc. Another important caution: drive on the left side of the road! What a relief to have Marjan constantly reminding to "stay left". Our vacation over, we returned the vehicle to Centerline, and a shuttle immediately drove us to the airport. Given the very competitive rate for the rental, the quality of the vehicle, the excellent service we received from the Centerline staff, we would definitely recommend this rental agency. This is a car rental place worth getting the people are absolutely friendly and the car that you get is high in quality. There are a lot of potholes in St. Croix so I spent most of my time driving very slowly trying not to damage the car. I can't recommend strongly enough that you avoid Centerline. We wasted our first 2.5 hours of vacation waiting for them to provide the vehicle we reserved months in advance through our resort. The staff are unfriendly, but even more frustratingly, totally complacent. They clearly found it amusing we were growing weary of standing on the curb at the airport. We watched countless other people get their cars delivered to the curb but they drove ours to a distant parking lot and offered a shuttle for which we'd have to wait longer and hopefully tip the driver. We elected to walk to the car ourselves, which was unnecessarily parked on the far side of the lot (after having driven past us standing at the curb). The three people in our party were absolutely convinced they intentionally inconvenienced us and took pleasure in doing so. When we dropped off the pre-paid vehicle, Centerline tried to charge us for the rental. Shocker! The other neat touch was a vehicle with only 10K miles on the odometer had almost entirely bald front tires. Nice safety feature. First bad on Trip Advisor, tried 15 different directions to find Centerline on their site, non-existent. We rented our Jeep at the airport. PLEASE choose Budget or Avis. No one in their lines, took me an hour to get to the counter at Centerline because they are local and highly recommended. Front bumper had damage not documented. While not their fault, was raining cats and dogs when we arrived. Had to go out twice in the rain to document. You have to drop the vehicle off outside the airport, and ride a shuttle in. Go in and drop your luggage with someone in your party, then the vehicle. BIGGEST ISSUE! We inadvertently left $180 of souvenirs in a bag in the back seat. Emailed twice now, no response. Centerline, there was a number of T-shirts, a sweatshirt, a board mounted bottle opener, a dog tag with Annabelle on it, a hat and T-shirt combo. ALL of it in a bag marked Purple Papaya. You have the emails, you have my ID, you have the info to return my merchandise and be a stand-up rental place. YOUR CALL. Hope your employee is enjoying all the goodies we left. Use Budget or Avis. The car rental places at the airport told me there's aren't any cars available. Shoulda booked 6 months ago, well crap this vacation just got more expensive, taxis are never cheap. We rented a car when visiting on a cruise and were told the pick up would be at the end of the pier. The driver would arrive at 9am and leave at 930am exactly. We left the ship at 850am and walked up, arriving at the end of the pier a few minutes after 9am. After looking around for about 10minutes we couldnt find any vehicles from centreline so decided to phone at it was already 915am. I got through to them at 918am only to be told the shuttle left 10minutes ago but he was on his way back to collect us. We were left standing in the baking sun until the driver finally arrived at 9:54am after spending almost 15minutes and calling them 6 times. Absolotely ridiculous considering we were told at the time of booking the driver would be leaving at 930am on the dot. We got to the rental office and the woman working there was very apologetic and said it was because they couldnt get hold of us by phone the day before. We were on a cruise so had no signal anyway !! The car was fine, if a little scratched and we enjoyed our day on the island. We were told to get back by 330pm to get the shuttle back to the boat. There was no way we were going to be late so got back at 320pm with the car already refueled. We had to wait for others to arrive. The next ones arrived just after 340pm. They were a bigger group so they sent them off in a shuttle straight away.... Left us waiting again despite being the only ones who arrived on time. The last family arrived at 350pm but still had to refuel the car and the kids needed to bathroom so by the time we left was around 4pm. We shared the shuttle with the mum and the 2 kids and they put the dad in a seperate car !!!! They obviously knew how many were coming back so they needed 3 cars to get people to the shuttle yet for some reason chose to make us wait for 40mins rather than sending us straight away. Thinking about it afterwards, they clearly had 3 shuttles available but decided not to use one in the morning to save money which is why we were left standing for an hour. However I have no idea why they left us waiting 40mins after we arrived to get the shuttle back. The group who arrived 10mins late (20mins after us) got back to the ship 20mins before us. Their failure to pick us up and take us back cost us nearly 2 hours of our trip to the island. The company seems ok as a rental company (though the car was very scratched) but in terms of renting one when you arrive on a cruise we would suggest finding another firm. We have rented a car from about 10 different companies in 6 different countries and this is the only one would never use again. read more

We went to STX on a cruise and had a Jeep rented through Centerline. Lots of people from our cruise ended up renting vehicles through Centerline and we were all told they would pick us up from the port at 9am. 9:15 comes, no Centerline. Everyone is standing around wondering where they were. Finally after 9:30, Centerline shows up with a very small van to carry a few people to their location. Shortly after, another van shows up. By the time we got to their location to get our van, we had already lost an hour out of our day waiting on them. Then once we arrive at their location, they have a lady checking people in who was VERY slow. I have never been to a car rental place that was so slow checking people in. The line was long, people were frustrated because we had all lost time already and she was making it worse. We finally got our Jeep which was in great condition, and enjoyed our very short day. We went back at the end of the day and dropped it off. They took us to port. The vehicle itself was great and the price was good but the service was horrible. I would use them again if there were no other options but I would definitely use someone else in the future, who knows how to tell time and be efficient at their job and not so slow. read more

I was told that there would be a a shuttle from the ferry dock to the car rental and when I called to confirm on the day of travel I was told that there was not and that even though my reservation was for 5:30 centerline closed at 5. Everyone on the phone was extremely rude and unhelpful so we weren't able to pick up our car the day we got there and had to spend over $100 in taxis. While returning the car, there was an argument with an employee and customer with both yelling at each other. I love Centerline Car Rental! This is the second time I have rented from them during my trips to Saint Croix. They have always been very friendly and the cars clean and new. This time my reservation for a car went through twice and they called ahead of time to let me know and double check whether I really wanted two cars. The return was completely effortless! The amount I was billed was the amount they quoted me in advance. My flight to the island was canceled and re-booked. I called to make them aware of it. They had everything ready for me when I arrived. Very organized! They also helped a family behind me whose car had been "given away" by one of the national car rental companies. I waited until 1 week before traveling to St Croix to rent a car. Stupid on my part. I travel for business a lot and have always used Avis. Well all the majors were sold out. My agent recommended Centerline. I read online reviews and some were not good. Most were about high deposit and waiver charge for using a debit card. I was concerned. This standard practice for most rental companies. They post this policy on the website and describe it if you call. I reserved a Ford Explorer (or similar) vehicle with my major credit card. I then contacted them by phone to verify charge was correct. Major credit card policy is a minimum of $500 will be held against your card. If your rental is more than $500, they will hold the total amount of rental. When we arrived on the island we went to the centerline window where we spoke to a very nice (and fun) lady. We added a couple drivers and picked up our keys. Our vehicle (2019 Nissan Pathfinder) was ready to go and easy to find. It had a few marks and minor dings which were identified on the inspection sheet,but was a fine, and clean car. Getting our vehicle was very easy. I photographed every corner of the vehicle prior to leaving the lot. These are time stamped on my phone in case there is a discrepancy. Upon return, I dropped my people and luggage at the terminal, and made the short drive to the rental return. Signage was good. The office is very nice and clean. The rep was Nadine. She was friendly, and inspected vehicle in front of me. There were no issues. The total was exactly the same as my quote. Everything went perfect. In the end, I would recommend Centerline. My advice when renting from any company is to be very clear regarding policies. Most people only post a review if their experience is negative. And I believe most negative results are of their own doing. Do not hesitate to do business with this company. I will again. Our time in St Croix was 2/13/20 to 2/18/20. As a frequent traveler to St. Croix I historically rented cars from Centreline Auto Rental. What I have noticed lately is that the level of customer service has declined significantly. On my most recent trip (8/8 - 8/23) I experienced a tire pressure warning - the third in the last 4 rentals - with this one resulting in a complete flat. I followed the company's protocol for roadside assistance and that is when things began to unravel. The "dispatch" person would not commit to an arrival time, did not take the situation seriously at all, and hung up me 3 times. (The disconnects were not due to dropped calls as I was standing about 100 feet from a cell tower! I was hung up on!) We waited for more than 90 minutes, with no updates coming from the dispatcher, my wife and I were given a ride home by the staff at a restaurant. I sent an email to Centreline - which has never been answered - explaining the situation and asking why a paying customer was abandoned with a flat tire. What transpired the next day was completely beyond belief. I had to deal with an extremely rude, surly and horrendously disrespectful service rep who refused to transfer me to a manager. I had to make a separate call - to the same number - I was able to speak to a so called "manager". Following a lengthy explanation of what occurred the "manager" apologized and stated "I am going to comp the entire rental (4 days out of a 15 day rental) and I'll have someone pick up the key from you." I asked the "manager" to send an email confirming our conversation and his offer. Several hours passed and no email. What did happen was the surly service rep called me and proceeded to chastise and denigrate me for not doing enough to get Centreline's car back in service. I was told I should have gotten people at the restaurant to help change their tire...although my contract included roadside assistance. But the worst part was being told to "shut up" by the service rep. At that point I simply hung up! Perhaps Millennials, Gen X's and Gen Z's do not mind being talked too like they are trash. But as a Baby Boomer / Vietnam Veteran I will never ever allow anyone to speak to me in such a disrespectful manner. Hours later the so called "manager" showed up to retrieve the keys. Since I had not received the requested email documenting his personal commitment to "comp" the entire rental; I asked him again to confirm. With extraordinarily little regard for his previous commitment....he reneged. These people are beyond pathetic, they are despicable and in abandoning a customer in distress, Centreline demonstrated a complete disregard for their customer's safety. That kind of behavior is criminal! You would think given the Covid-19 situation and the resulting economic loss associated with a severe downturn in tourism; companies would be as accommodating as possible for those of us who take on the added burden of traveling safely during this pandemic. NOTE: The system does not allow you to post a "No Star" comment. That is the only reason I gave them 1 star - and they don't deserve that. read more

The worst costumer service ever. Upon reserving the car and picking the car up, yes it is great. However I should have known better when there was no walk through, and no checkout process when picking up the car. Upon returning the car, hidden fees are everywhere. We travel with a service dog, NOT for emotional support. Yet when we returned the car the hit us with an $80 dog hair fee, $50 surcharge, and $25.57 for airport transportation.
