My boss somehow lost both his sets of keys, so he'd been leaving through the back door after locking the front door from inside the office. This not only meant he couldn't get in if I wasn't there, it also meant that when we hired two new employees we couldn't give them keys. The keys we needed duplicated are the kind that say "Do Not Duplicate." My boss had tried to get copies made and had been told "no" because of that. He was in a hurry, getting ready for an out-of-town trip, so he didn't have time to press the issue. Serendipity! I was bored, reading Yelp reviews for lack of anything more interesting to do. When I read Mithril's review of Centerville Locksmith and saw that they'd do "Do Not Duplicate" keys, I jumped at the chance! I called them to verify that and was told that I needed to fax them a letter on company letterhead authorizing them to make the keys. I did that, including a line saying that our employee would have a copy of the letter with them when they came to have the keys made. Our office is in Pleasanton but I live in Fremont so it was only logical for me to be the one to do this. I showed them a copy of the letter I'd faxed (it was actually funny because I was authorizing me) and had six keys made so that we'd have extras. All in all, I was in and out of there in 5 minutes and the price was cheap! The person who made the keys was not the friendliest person in the world and normally I'd take at least one star off for that - but, the speed and the fact that they'd do these keys more than makes up for that. The reviews for Centerville Locksmith was good and since it was close to my home I decided to give it a try.I wanted duplicated copies of my work key to be used for a few of our sites. Though it was a simple key, my boss said it needed to be done by a locksmith and not a hardware store. It was quickly done, and for a good price at $7.95 for 4 keys. When I got home, I realized that the keys didn't look identical to the original copy so I decided to come back the follow day to confirm that it would work prior to trying it out on the field. The guy I approached the next day looked at it again and said it should work and to come back if it didn't. Unfortunately, it didn't work so I made my way back. To note, the drive from the locksmith to the site was about 12 miles out of my way. When I got back, the same employee helped me and seemed to be irritated that I had even come back. Rather than sympathizing, he seems more agitated. He said something along the lines of "you need to bring us a better key, we're just making copies." He took a few minutes to redo it again and restated that we need a better key next time. Luckily enough, his adjustments to the keys worked on our sites. The reason I'm giving a 2 star is for their customer service. Though they did fix my keys for no charge, the sense of irritation from the employee to fix THEIR mistake wasn't a great experience. If they originally hadn't rushed their work, then I wouldn't have had to make a few round trips and waste my time. Let alone, to be scolded by an employee that it was my key that was an issue. They said ignition cylinder tumblers have issues they can get the tumblers fix and keys polished to make sure they work again. Next day I dropped the car and they fixed it by afternoon . I was very impressed with their quality of work and they were reasonable with cost . When I enquired with 4 other locksmiths their quote was almost 100 dollars higher then centerville locksmith . Needed to have some new keys cut for my Toyota. The dealer wants a couple hundred dollars for replacements, which I thought was insane, so I just bought some blanks on eBay and brought them in to Centerville. The guy was upfront about a direct copy possibly not working and not being able to guarantee the cut since I brought in my own blanks, but I told him to go ahead anyways. Turns out, both keys that he cut worked perfectly in the door, ignition, and glove box, on both sides of the key too. Price was a very reasonable $2 per copy and I was out of there in 10 min. i had to replace an ignition on a old and rare motorcycle, after calling everywhere and getting estimates that ranged from $50-$500 tried my luck at Cycle Salvage(great place for motorcycle parts) the guy there found a matching ignition for only $25 out the door the only catch was it didn't have a key. However he then referred me to Centerville Locksmith telling me they have every key known to man and that it would only be like $20 for the keys. i drove there and found this little garden/ tool center place in the middle of a neighborhood area, i went in and these two guys in their mid to late 40, one sitting the other talking to another gentleman(a customer/friend), both both guys behind the counter didn't really acknowledge me till i got to with in 3-5ft of the counter, i held up the ignition and said i needed a key and the guy that had been conversing a moment ago pointed to the left of the store and polity said that a guy should be over there. I went over to the key counter and was amazed at the amount of shiny key blanks hanging on the wall, i was tempted to just get all my keys redone into those cool custom keys but unfortunately a college budget doesn't allow me to spend that frivolously, the guy behind the counter was on the phone and i just decided to wait(apparently someone was asking if he had a certain key and his response something to the effect i said earlier that he had every key known to man, i only had to wait a minute or two before he was off the phone. i retold my story about going to Cycle salvage and he looked my bike and said the first key would be $3+ change and the any others would be like $1.50, i had to sign a paper and list my address and ph# for the DMV since i was copying an ignition key that wasn't attached to a bike but besides that i was in and out in probably 10-15min max i plan to take the gas tank in tomorrow and get him to key that too but i think i may bring the pink in with me, just to play it safe since i have to drive from San Jose and don't feel like making the trip twice. the attitude thing is here nor there i work customer service myself in an environment that caterers to a customer is always right type attitude and i usually expect(but disappointed most of the time) that same level of service and i will walk out of a place no problem at all but the attitude that these guys had was one of frustration that business is slow and they have to stand there for probable 8-12 hours a day and here another person that just wants to look, pick their brains on products then forget the mom and pop and run over to the big conglomerate store for the cheapest price only because they hire wahoo's that doesn't know jack about what their what they're selling. just my two cents (maybe a little more) but i will defiantly will be bringing any business i can to them. read more

Great place to find that specific key style. The wall behind the service desk is completely loaded with different style key blanks. They also carry blanks for Do Not Duplicate keys. Having to make key copies for my boss I found it somewhat frustrating (in a good way) that the company had to provide an authorization letter first (faxed or brought in) plus I needed my company's business card and proof of ID. I'm happy and relieved that they don't make copies of these types of keys without these challenges. The prices were great and service was fast, efficient and friendly. They also have a mobile service available - good to know if I ever get locked out. The shop is located in a residential neighborhood. As Centerville Locksmith is a local homegrown business I would drive the extra distance to support them. read more
