They explained the process to me for strays: 1) Fill out a stray form and certify you found the pet and that you aren't the owner 2) They will hold the animal for four days to ensure it doesn't belong to someone else in case it is lost 3) Once the hold time expires, the center will spay the kitten and give her vaccines and put her up for adoption. They also assured me this is a no-kill shelter, and that because she's a kitten (and adorable), she'll be adopted quickly. They also have a bin for pet donations (food, toys, etc), and they have pet rooms for hopeful owners to interact with the cats and dogs for adoption. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable, even going as far as to recommend veterinarian services for my current pets. I absolutely recommend this center to anyone looking to adopt or safely surrender a stray.

They are near and dear to my heart because they focus on saving large breed misunderstood breeds that are often judged by their bully looks, muscular body build, markings, color, and sometimes unfortunate botched ear croppings that leave them disfigured outcasts thanks to a human. My most passionate mission is to discredit BSL (breed specific legislation) as antiquated as baning a man from a restaurant based on the color of his skin. Yes I think BSL is = to racial profiling. It judges a dog based on their color and bone structure not their good or bad deeds. Any breed can be a "loving family member" if they are raised as such and any breed can go bad if left to their own to roam the streets. I donate to this organization as often as I can so they can continue to pursue their mission to find a loving home for "misunderstood and abused dogs". I hope that one day I will be in a position to do such a worthy cause.

Then we heard about the City of Marble Falls efforts to improve its own public animal shelter. We contacted the main person with the shelter, a police department investigator named Rachel Baldree. Ms. Baldree was very generous with her time, explaining the shelter, its significant budget problems (annual budget from the city of only $2500), its successes (adopting out more dogs than ever this year, at a very low cost to adopters) and its great need for donations for maintenance & repairs. We've visited the shelter. It's extremely basic, but it's the only public resource for strays and animal control dogs & cats. There's a HUGE need for donations for its current improvement plans (a yard & fence, better plumbing, better interior, more kennels, veterinary assistance, etc.). They have a general no-kill policy except for aggressive or very sick animals. If you like to support animal shelters, I can't think of a better place to put your money.

These incidents have resulted in damage to land that does not belong to them. Despite several requests and reminders to contain their animals and respect property boundaries, the situation has continued, and there has been no meaningful effort to correct the issue. Instead, the responsibility has repeatedly been shifted away from those involved, which has made resolving the matter extremely difficult. Out of respect for the agricultural community and the property rights of local landowners, I am unable to recommend this organization and would encourage others to use discretion when considering any involvement.

By 3P I was at the shelter doing a meet and greet with my dogs, and filling out paperwork. Darlene, Terrie and Michelle are all top-notch!! They make sure you are legit and that you and your current animals are a good fit with the new animal. These ladies and the other staff I didn't get to meet clearly work very hard at this shelter. It was beautifully maintained and the animals are clearly well cared for. They work with other shelters and Texas Humane Society to rescue dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. If you are looking for a pet, I highly recommend checking here and if you want to help a shelter, your donation couldn't go to a better place! She introduced me to Specs (now lovingly known as Staxx Benjamin) and honestly? He chose me! That perfect connection happened because EMILY was intuitive enough to make it possible. Since bringing Staxx home, EMILY has continued to show up for us. Her support and helpfulness didn't stop at adoption. She's been a resource and a reassurance every step of the way. This establishment is a no kill shelter and they actually rescue these babies from being put down at different shelters. That to me is absolutely incredible! Keep up the great work. I loved the 2 acre land tour and explaining everything you do for these babies who need a forever home. The love, care and time is beautiful. I got to witness one of the cats being adopted today and got to congratulate the gentleman on his new pet. It was the sweetest thing! This shelter is very clean and they take the time to make sure it stays that way since some of the pets coming in could have health issues.

My wife and I are dog people. I grew up with a dog most of my life. First there was MacDougal - a…read moreScottish Terrier my dad brought home. Macdougal lived until my high school days and in the meantime, my mom had brought home a small dog of some sort and named her Sunshine. We called her Sunny. When I got out on my own, I went through a brief dogless period while I just tried to keep myself fed. I met Mousse - a Chocolate Lab, in 2000 and we were inseparable. She was by all accounts my best friend. I didn't know then but around the same time, the woman who would become my wife was meeting Sasha; a Newfoundland that would be her and her daughter's companion for the rest of Sasha's life. The love we had for those dogs were equalled only by the love we have for our own children - we're that big of dog people. Sasha passed away in October of 2012 and Mousse in September of 2113. By then, my wife and I were together - although not yet married. Neither of us were in a hurry to get another dog, we both felt that we just wanted OUR dogs back. We agreed that our dog would find us. Over Thanksgiving in 2014, we had a conversation with my two sisters, who had both lost their beloved dogs in recent months. Something made my wife (We'd been married in May) start looking. By the end of the following weekend, she thought she found our dog at Handfuls on Purpose. She showed me a picture and we researched the breed. Man, that dog was adorable. Cartoonishly adorable. Like if you'd hired an illustrator to design the most adorable stuffed dog, that dog is what it would look like. We carefully completed the application and waited. We were so nervous. On the way home from a business trip one night while waiting for a response from H.O.P.E., I purchased in-flight wifi just so I could send one last email plea asking them to give us a chance to give that dog a home. They responded that they had sent a message to my wife. They said yes. My next email from 30,000 feet was to my wife. "We got the dog". and then "Landing, I have to go". She had no idea I'd sent an email and didn't know how I would have found out that we got the dog but I forward the email to her and I dutifully closed my laptop. In the next few weeks while we plotted how we'd make the trip from our home in Kansas City to Hearne Texas, Elizabeth and the staff at H.O.P.E. kept us up to date with the dog by sending emails and pictures. You see, they're dog people too. And cat people, and just lifelong companion animal people. They get it. Pets don't need owners, they need families. We drove the 800 miles (and back) in one gruelingly long weekend. We were so excited to meet the dog who'd later be named "Olive". You could tell Olive had a special place in their hearts too. I think I saw a little tear in their eyes as we promised to love and care for her. The facility was nicer than I was expecting and shame on me for expecting less. The office was clean, the pens that we saw were clean and had walls that opened up so the dogs could get fresh air. They sent us home with a care package and her brief medical records. So Olive has had her first Dr.'s visit and she's healthy. I know the staff at H.O.P.E are busy taking care of the future family companions in their care but we'll keep in touch. I think they'd care that we did.

As far as the previous review... IT IS for the animals so put your own feelings aside for one moment and not get so offended. This place has a lot of animals and the thing under her desk is a very scared dog who they watch when people come in... So the fact that you weren't helped to carry the food is because they were making sure that dog was ok! Don't be selfish...
