First time at this ace hardware store since I just needed to buy a few things and I was away from my usual location that I use. I had an amazing experience here, the staff is helpful and gives you space when you say you just want to look around. The prices here are also grate and competitive. My power wand was $3-5 less then any other place I've been! When I have the ability I will be using this store from now on. Central Ace Hardware was once known as Post True Value. This little store is where all the construction engineers pick up all their paints, screws and other stuff. The inventory is fairly limited. And the staff really do not know what they are selling. Most of the people who come in are the homeless. They pick up a can of spray or brake cleaner to get high. I don't know if I'd give them 5 stars normally, but after reading the bad reviews, I don't know what they're talking about. It's not Home Depot by any stretch, but every time I've come in here ready to be disappointed, they actually have what I need! "No Smoking" sign, check. Random hardware thingamajig, check. And they do a great job on copying keys. The owners (I assume, since they're always there) are no nonsense. If you ask them where something is, they'll tell you the aisle. They're not strolling down the aisle asking "Can I help you?", which might turn some people off. But, if you need to find something, ask, and they'll know. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!! If you're in a bind and need a hardware store this is the place!! They can get you what you want or need. It's not like those big box stores (orange in color and blue in color) that they are at times rude or don't know their own products. Came here 6 months ago when I needed to make some keys made and they were very helpful. They had friendly people working there & greeted me right away & assisted me with getting a few other things. The guy that was helping me was very knowledgeable and nice. I was out of there in 5 mins! There's plenty of free parking in the front too, so that's a huge plus anywhere in SF! read more

Spare keys in seconds, for just a few dollars. Winning! You know what's not winning? Locking yourself out of your own apartment. Twice. And when you don't own the building, getting a locksmith to let you in is nearly impossible. Having spare keys scattered amongst friends in the city is clutch. Enter Central Ace Hardware. I walked in and within 2 minutes had several versions of my apartment key in my hands. It only cost $3 and some change. Totally worth not having to wait for your significant other to get home and let you in. Or beg friends to come pick you up and let you stay at their house for the night. read more

They seem to have a lot of basic items in a very small store... They also seem to have a theft problem because all the lady did is stare at me in there surveillance cameras the whole 5-10 I was inside..and she never offered to assist me. This is the WORST ACE STORE EVER. AVOID BY ALL COSTS. The two workers are the RUDEST people ever and will up charge you and basically steal your money. They made key copies for me and ruined my original copy and now I can not get inside my house. I can not tell you how rude these people were. They told me it wasn't there problem. I haven't yelped in a minute so this will be poorly written but I've never really written that well. I'm giving ACE 4 stars because they have everything you need to make most at home repairs without needing to call a plumber or electrician. They have a lot of stuff packed into a small space but hey at least they know where everything is and all you have to do is ask. Today I went in for a plunger and they had a few but no heavy duty plungers so I was slightly disappointed and even more so when I got to my toilet that needed fixing. The plunger I bought wasn't big enough so my only request would be to carry bigger plungers. Other than that is was a cool experience. read more

We were on a mission to gather supplies to paint the new apartment. As soon as I politely asked for help, I felt as though I was inconveniencing the woman at the register. A fellow customer, who was very friendly, helped us more than the store employee. Shoot. He should have worked there- he was nice and knowledgeable. Whatevs. We got the supplies we needed. Came here to get a screw for a broken shower door, saw that they had a minimum charge for a card (I should have known) told the lady up front (older woman) that I would be back after getting some cash! She just gave me the screw and said get her back next time! I've only been to this place 3 times for small parts When something breaks in my apartment. Just plain rude. I was looking for a single battery and the lady refused to take my bill because it's "dirty". I took out my card and she tells me cash only. I just finished writing a review for Central Builders Supply who also own this store as well, and whereas I can get busy and visit Central one or two days a week, I would frequent twice as often to see Terrence and Lee at Ace Hardware, whose kindness and patience almost knows no limits (well almost - I agreed last year to stop coming in at 5:15 PM with questions and purchases :--). Similar to my review today of Central, I came to learn basic electrical, repair, painting, etc., through a series of questions and purchases as a resident manager. I will say that these two have a little more time to spend on us for this store is not quite as busy with professional contractors that are waiting in line to be helped. With Terrence and Lee we have developed a friendship that is simply fun. They both have an excellent sense of humor that they share with the english language and I am occassionaly surprised and delighted by their insights. If they know you, they are very funny and quick. Thank you again for the last four years of help and advice. (as Terrence and Lee already know, we are learning Mandarin right now via The Rosetta Stone series, but we're going to surprise them next week with a little dialogue of our own! :--). read more

We've reached a point where it is now cheaper to shop a local retail vs buying on Amazon. Case in point, I needed a toilet water supply line to fix my leaking Toto. Amazon had a large assortment (in two days time, mind you) for about $9 and up. I almost suckered for that but took a quick stroll here and bought one for an even $2. Great location, easy meter parking nearby, place to lock your bike, and even walkable for hundreds of neighbors. What could be better than this? read more

My go to list of Ace stores for all my repair needs. Terrence & Ms. L are the stars in this store. They have solutions for all my basic home maintenance. At 1st impression the store don't look like much but 99% on target. It's located equal distance to most of my clients so that's an added convenience. I rarely go to their sister plumbing shop around the corner due to the vast difference in service. read more

In the two years we have lived in Japantown, we have come to rely on this hardware store for all of our household hardware needs, from ethernet cable to grout to some very unusual lamp bulbs. And, of course, they carry every kind of nut or screw I have ever needed. Great hardware store. I live nearby and go there frequently and have yet to not find what i need. They seem to always have everything that Ace carries, and then some. You know those little wood shelf braces that fit into holes in adjustable wood bookcases? They had three different types of those. This place has excellent customer service and feels like a real neighborhood hardware store. You know when you have something annoying to fix around the house and just need a couple screws of a very specific size. I've been here twice for issues just like that, and they happily searched through their parts to sell me exactly what I needed - and only what I needed, not a whole box. Not only that but the last time I was there I only have $20's for a $0.25 purchase and the sales woman just told me to get her back next time. Great place! read more

I am by Ace, it seems, quite frequently. despite being small they usually have what I am looking for in tools, electric, and basic hardware. Staff tries to be helpful. Parking is fairly easy at meters out front. Fairly limited hours. (For plumbing, their sister store is around the corner. It's huge and comprehensive for rough plumbing, but limited for finish.) read more

i went into this store and waited for over 25 minutes and no one even asked if they could him...................i did not need anything complicated but the asiles are so narrow it is best to have store person help,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i remember the old days of brownies, that was a serves orientated store. read more
