He offered my gf (who was 9 months pregnant) water, helped recommend the Redwood we ended up using, helped cut it to size, and even helped me find the right interior braces for the wood. This was particularly nice because they were about to close, and he never once seemed like he was trying to rush us out of there. All the staff was super-nice and helpful, especially Bullwinkle, who approached us as soon as we walked in, took us around and showed us just what we needed, and to boot he told us some jokes we will not forget. He also gave me some advice that is going to make my retaining wall project INFINITELY better. Their prices are great- the materials cost much less than I expected. The whole experience was head and shoulders above Lowes or Home Depot, where, as a gal who likes to DIY, I often get spoken to condescendingly or actively avoided by the staff. I got my refund check and decided to pull the trigger on a few tools and home improvement supplies I've been waiting to get. I checked out the homepage for Discount Builders and looked at their sales flyer. In the sales flyer I saw an ad for the DeWalt Atomic 20V cordless drill for $119.99 (regular $159.99). I got in my truck and headed down there. Sure enough, as soon as I walked in the store they had a large display full of DeWalt tools advertising their sale price. I picked up the drill and a few other items, and when I went to check out it rang up for $159.99. You can see I've attached photos of both the sales flyer on their website and the price marked on the sales rack at the entrance to the store. Both prominently say $119.99. I pointed both of these out to the cashier, and he went to check with his supervisor. When the supervisor came over he said that the price marked was not correct and would only be valid in Apri. I looked closely at the sales flyer and the price tag - both of them stated "prices valid until April 30th" which is an end date, not a start date. He was not able to find anywhere indicating when the sale price started. I asked him "Isn't that a bit deceptive? Shouldn't you at least change the price tag?" He then said to me sarcastically "Why should I change the price? That's the April price!" To which I responded , "But it's March, and there is no other price listed here. Plus it's advertised on your website." He then carried the box over to the cashier again and, from my perspective, condescendingly said "Well, let's see how it scans. Whatever price comes up is what we will sell to you." Then it scanned at $159.99 again and he said "See? That's the price" I felt really insulted, he was acting like I was making some type of outrageous claim when the store advertised something different on their website and put a huge price tag showing the lower price. Again, he was never able to show me written anywhere that it say "Starting April 1st" or similar. I can't leave a 1 star review, because I've been coming here for years. I teach woodworking and DIY skills at a local makerspace and have referred dozens of people to this store. I like supporting small local businesses instead of buying from Lowes, HD, or Amazon. But this interaction was just terrible. It felt like a bait-and-switch tactic and his attitude felt very insulting. I'm hoping this was a one time anomaly, but I guess I'll have to be extra careful about their sales flyers from now on and not get my hopes up. read more
