Very cool shop that had everything I needed to setup a Roskopp 1, including rails & tail bone. They had everything I needed in stock, which is a big plus. The guys knew how to grip it and mount the rails & tail bone, just like how shops in the 80's did it. Customer service was excellent. My family will no longer be patrons of this business, nor will many of our friends. Very poor customer service and degrading treatment by the owner. My son received a t-shirt from this shop as a birthday gift. It was unfortunately too small so I tried to exchange it for a larger size. It still had their tags and stickers affixed but we didn't have a gift receipt. We also have a white Chihuahua so it had some white hairs on it from existing in our home for the last few weeks. I didn't think to lint roll it because it was not more than you could get by brushing against someone. The store clerk initially told me I couldn't exchange for a different size because of no gift receipt. I argued that point as all the original tags were attached and I wasn't asking for a refund or even a credit. She proceeds to go ask the manager (later discovered to be the owner) who says he couldn't return it because it was no longer in new condition because of dog hair. I told him that was silly because had I had the forethought to lint roll it he would have never known and his clerk was already trying to not exchange the stupid shirt. He had no response other than people have allergies, etc. Weird, how I have seen dogs in that store on many occasions in the past and allergies weren't a concern then. I thought this place was pretty neat since it held so many surf boards and it's rare for a surf shop to really know their stuff! I usually run into surf shop staff that are too lazy or think too highly of themselves to explain something simple to me because I don't really understand it or they don't really know what I'm talking about and don't really bother with me at all. I like that they have a variety of, get this, board shorts. Okay call me out but I have the hardest time finding board shorts and I hate those that PacSun carries because they're always too loose or too snug or I am just not a Roxy girl ... but this place is perfect :) great selection. read more

CCS is an amazing place. Even when I am not buying something, I enjoy just walking in and talking to the people that work there. I recently had a great experience with two employees. I went in to try to find a certain surfboard that I had trouble finding online, and asking about it first introduced me to an amazing employee, Mack, who was very polite and led me to another amazing and polite employee named Corbett. Corbett helped me find the board that I wanted, let me special order what I wanted for a much lower cost than Ebay or Amazon, and the shipping is so much quicker! Awesome surf shop and great crew! I've been talking to the owner and employees a bunch trying to get a board shipped to San Diego and they've been super quick and helpful the whole time. Shipping was super reasonable and when it came I saw it was packed so professionally. I was nervous at first but wouldn't hesitate to ship another board from them in the future. Clean, well-lit, organized, cool. This store originally opened in SLO in 1975, and has been in this location since 1978. I needed to purchase a new wetsuit for my daughter. When we walked a sales associate helped us find a suit. He picked a few suits for her to try in her size, and she found one she liked in less than 20 minutes. Excellent experience. read more

For some reason I kind of hate to say it but this is actually one of the best Surf and Skate shops I've been in. Not being a surfer and having been disallowed by my friends to ever ride a skateboard again, I mostly come here for the clothes. For whatever reason, skater clothes just fit me better than most other clothes and CCS is a Mecca of "alternative" brands. All of my favorite pairs of casual pants come from this place along with some of my better shirts. The prices are a little steep but that seems to be the way it is with these kinds of clothes now days. For the most part the staff is friendly and helpful (although a few of them can come off, and be, kind of elitist). At least stop in to check out the fish tank too. It is one of the coolest salt water tanks out there. read more

They're the place to go for all surfing, skating, and snowboarding needs. They also have Toms Shoes, sunglasses, watches, all kinds of clothes, flip-flops, you name it! The best customer service! And best place to rent a snowboard. I've saved time and money by renting from them. They also have shuttles to go snowboarding if you're interested. I once was buying Toms Shoes for my two sisters for Christmas. They brought out all the styles of shoes in two different sizes for us to go through. So much help and always a positive experience. I know there's so much more that can be said, but you should check them out and see for yourself! read more

This place has always had GREAT sale racks, including the women's clothes (which usually have low selection at surf shops when compared with the men's). Employees are very friendly and helpful as well. Can't say I like their new location though at the ex-Law's Hobbies. I went here recently because I needed new fins for my board. Not being an avid surfer, I wasn't sure what type I would need, but they helped me find a good set in the price range I was looking for! They were also helpful in explaining what to do with the ding in my board, and had everything I needed! Overall, they were really friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I wish there was an option to give them 'ZERO' stars... We frequently shop in SLO at many different stores and really make a huge effort to support local businesses. It's very important to us to support the hard working proprietors making our little quaint town what it is. The customer service was terrible quite unlike most of the stores in SLO. They were very inflexible, and the store policy was ridiculous and not customer-focused. I would never buy anything from this store again, nor would I recommend anyone else do, because they won't even give a store credit if you are unhappy with a product or the product is faulty. My wife approved of this message. She even gave me a air check mark after I read it aloud. I really started this review much more aggressively, but realized that somehow there must an opportunity for compassion here. I hope I can find it. And, I hope this store gets their head out of their stupid asses. Go to Moondoggies, don't waste your time. Once we were all rung up and left the store we made it across the street and I told another store. CCS is truly an iconic surfshop located in the heart of downtown SLO. Open since 1975 they're known for having the best selection of boards, surf/snow gear and apparel. On top of that they always have friendly and helpful customer service and great prices. When my husband needed a new wetsuit in a hurry recently, we headed to CCS. Mike, the manager, helped him find the perfect O'Neill wetsuit that he needed. In addition to being a great surf shop, I always find the most current and cutest surf brand clothes, and my husband lives in their logo T-Shirts. Whenever my husband and I wear our CCS gear (usually our matching CCS hats- don't judge!) it doesn't matter where we are; whether it be another state or country (most recently a surf trip in Mexico) someone ALWAYS recognizes the CCS logo. So disappointed, being a local growing up in Slo, I've spent 1000's of dollars in this store on skateboards,wetsuits, boogie board, surfboards, sweatshirts, T-shirt's, wax, shoes, socks, and overpriced stickers. So now as a parent I'm sad I have to say I bought my daughter who has years of surfing ahead of her a wetsuit, she wore it for 40 mins realized it wasn't comfortable and a hair small. But this once local shop has so sold out to growth and commercialization they wouldn't exchange it for the next size up, sad day on the central coast when you lose a good shop read more

I recently bought some sunglasses for $80 at CCS. They were overpriced, but it was convenient, and I wanted to support a local business. Sunglasses fell apart, obvious materials quality issue,and I went back to see if they could exchange them for me. The girl and dude at the counter told me to take a hike, and gave me some snotty remark. They were young and dumb, which is understandable, the problem is a lack of customer service (that should be taught by the management). With the internet stores being way cheaper, and usually more convenient than retail shops, customer service has to be good,to make up the difference. I got the feeling in this store that they thought they were too cool for school, and couldn't care less if they had my business. Disappointed. This is my revenge Don't shop here read more

When I saw that I was charged twice, I contacted them through the Amazon messaging system, and they refunded for one of the hats, and still shipped one to me for me to get the hat for a trip just a few days later. Soooo. I've had two great experiences and Central Coast Surfboards. The first time was a couple of months ago. A guy gave me an old longboard for my son but the fin (skeg) was much too big for the board. We went to several surf shops and but couldn't find a fin for under $60. I asked for help at CCS and they found the perfect fin for us for only $30! It works great and my son is really starting to get the surfing bug. The second experience was just last week. I was having lunch in slo and decided to stop in to see if they had a deal on a wetsuit. The guy who helped me was super knowledgeable and after taking the time to find out about my needs, found me the perfect LT O'neil wetsuit for only $250. I'll definitely be back! read more

I went to a different surf shop downtown SLO where I walked in and no one offered to help and the wetsuit selection wasn't great. Here we were immediately greeted and once someone saw we needed a fitting room someone opened one up. The girl helping me (forgot her name) was SO helpful. She was so knowledgeable and helped out way more than I ever expected! I already tried out my wetsuit I bought today and it is perfect and I would have never found it without her! She helped me find one working my budget that I absolutely love and gave me so much good information! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a wetsuit! read more

Anytime I need casual clothes or anything surf-related I go to CCS first. Great, friendly service EVERY time. Coming from LA I was used to everyone who worked at surf shops being too cool to give you the time of day. That isn't the case here at all. I went in recently to buy a wetsuit since the water up here is sooooo much colder and it took at least 45 minutes of trying on different suits before I found the right one. I didn't have to deal with any attitude from the guy who was helping me out. I felt bad - even told him to feel free to go help someone else but he stayed until I had found a wetsuit I was really happy with. To top it all off, the next time I went in that same guy was working and was anxious to hear what I thought about the wetsuit after I had surfed in it a few times. Great customer service so kudos to everyone at CCS! I like to support local businesses so I prefer not to buy online if I can find what I'm looking for right down the street. However, when you're buying something that costs a few hundred dollars you want to make sure you're not being stupid about it. Whenever I have price shopped to make sure I was getting a fair deal CCS has compared favorably to online options. Just fyi. read more
