Came by the shop as I've been a long time fan of the brand since my first Caballero board in 1983. Didn't know about the place until a friend told me about it. Decided to assemble a board there. Got there when it opened on a Friday. Carlos was there and helped me with my new board and I love it. Only thing missing was a black tailbone. This place is great. They were honest in the advice and information they gave me -- they did not try to push/convince me to buy the more expensive option. They supplied me with free used wheels and a free used deck and put together my board all in a short period of time. They gave free drinks as well. Great place!!! read more

While visiting sunny Santa Barbara and peregrinating down State Street and the other close streets, my younger daughter saw the Powell Peralta skate shop sign and we had to go. Upon entering it appeared to be your standard skate shop; decks in vibrant colors align the walls, trucks and wheels, shirts, sweatshirts, shoes, etc. Pretty cool to see as anyone who knows about the making of this iconic brand was not an easy feat. While I am not a skater, my daughter is a beginner-intermediate level, she has a new trick board and 2 longboards, I do remember a lot of these brands and trademarks from my youth. Finally realized that I was much too big for my kids skateboard so I dropped by after work not knowing a thing about modern skateboards. Nice shop. I've been wanting to visit Powell since I was 15! That was over 20 years ago, and I finally made it yesterday!! I'm not sure if they actually had a shop for the public back then, or if it was just the warehouse. Anyway, I felt like a blast to the past. It's so great to see the old school logos on shirts, sweatshirts, boards, etc... I was bummed that a lot of the tshirts were XXL, and not Med or Large. I guess they sell out quickly, but it sucks when I drive from so far away to visit and won't be back for a long time. A few of the logos that I missed from the 80's are gone. I guess since those skaters moved on to other companies... I also was hoping they would have the old school videos/DVDs from the Bones Brigade days... I had the first 8 videos, but lost them all over time... I bought 2 shirts and hope they bring back the Bones Brigade ones, as I didn't notice any of them... We visited yesterday, after another local shop. My 14 yr old son is getting into skating and after doing tons of internet research was excited to be at a bigger shop. He asked some pretty technical questions, and the answers he got were all basically "I'm not sure." And this was from the manager. He was friendly, but I counted at least 5 times that he said "I'm guessing...." Granted, my son told me that the kind of riding he asked about (free riding) is not their specialty. But it would have been nice if they'd acknowledged it instead of trying to wing it. We went right back to the "A" store a couple blocks away, where he'd had a fantastic experience, and spent some more money there. read more

Went in there to get a board and was treated like a V.I.P The guy who helped me was the only one there because his partner was at lunch. He was super busy and did an awesome job juggling multiple customers, treating everyone really nice even though he was stretched. He helped me pick out a board to suit my "stature" and even upgraded the cone bushing to a heavy duty one (also accommodate my "stature") without me asking. I haven't tried any of the other skate shops in SB but now I know I don't need to! I hear they are moving to Goleta pretty much off the beaten path but I would suggest its well worth the trip. read more

When I walked I felt like a kid in the 80's with all the old school supplies they had. They had nice reissues like a the Tony Hawk, Tommy Guerrero and Lance Mountain. I came a while back to buy a skate board for my husband. The 3 guys that helped me were awesome. I knew I wanted to get this death wish board with Mickey Jim Greco and I wanted to carve out a G on the grip tape for our kids name. All 3 guys huddled around and did it for me and they made it look sick bc they carved the G where it said Greco so all u see is a lime green G. They spent like 2 hours helping me pick everything out and putting the board together for me. They definitely went above and beyond and made sure I got the best gear bc I was out of my element. I whole heartedly recommend this skate shop. From sick clothing and new shoes, decks, etc, to backpacks, socks, and 3rd party gear. No exaggeration all the clothing looks really good. Staff is super friendly and helpful, knowledgable. First time I came in I bought skate bearings, and any skater knows that getting the old ones out to make way for the new can be a big hassle. We went as a family yesterday to hook up some decks we had. Carlos was AMAZING!!! He was friendly, really helpful, had tons of knowledge and when we walked out a relatively short time later, my husband and kids had sick boards to ride and we are STOKED!!! The shop is cool, and totally worth the drive to Goleta. Easy to find and has tons of gear. Powell Peralta Skate Shop is one of the best skate shops in town. The shop is very active in the Santa Barbara skateboard scene and is constantly supporting and partaking in events that push it forward, ranging from national Go Skateboarding Day to the local annual Bop Game of Skate. The entire staff is very knowledgeable of all aspects of skateboarding, not to mention they are all very talented skateboarders (make sure to ask Carlos to do a nose manual for you). Everyone is very approachable and always have very helpful input. The store's layout is very pleasing and is always stocked with very tasteful products. If you are interested in old school skateboards, they have the biggest selection of Powell Peralta reissues in town. If you are looking for longboards, unfortunately they have a wide selection of these as well. The location right off of State St is very convenient and is a great place to start a day of shopping in the downtown area. Overall, I highly recommend this skate shop to skateboarders and nonskateboarders alike, and you should definitely stop by if you are ever in the area. read more
