I originally went on a groupon for a brake repair and thought I had a decent experience. The owner Steve was amiable enough and I thought I had a new go to mechanic. Over the course of the following months, it became apparent that Steve is a crook of the 1st order and had likely been ripping me off the whole time. I only realized it finally when I went to retreive one of my cars and the check engine light was STILL ON. I was told that he went through everything he could for that visist and that id need to bring it back for further investigation, still charged $600 for his mechanic's time, not his, becuase of course he wouldnt charge me, 'but his mechanic" has to be paid. To seal the deal on my business early on, after we dropped the car, he sent me photo he'd taken of the engine witht the valve cover removed and some mangled home made looking gasket set up that he said, the previous mechanic had tried to use and did I want to replace it with a proper one. As it turned out, that was his work, and the work was to slander the previous guy (who owned a specialty shop- and who was very expensive) so he could gain the business. This guy tried to give me a part that had nothing to do with the job he purported to have done one occastion- stupid me- he should have been showing the parts being replaced after work has been done every time. So he basically said he did work, and to prove it, he handed me some part he had on hand, and the bill of course. There are so many more things i could enumerate but suffice to say, this dude is bad news, unethical is way too generous, HE IS A CROOK. Run away. read more

This place is called Feniks Auto on Groupon, I took my car here and they told me that my breaks and rotors were bad and in addition to the cost I paid on Groupon which was $140 it would cost me an additional $313. I don't know much about breaks or rotors so I just said okay. Not even a month later my breaks are grinding so I called and took it back 3 weeks later and they couldn't replicate the sound and said "It's new breaks" the get "dusty" and to give it time to break in. Two months later it's still happening. I looked at the yelp reviews for Feniks Auto and they all are having similar issues. Went in there for a simple brake pad replacement job. Got told need to replace rotors too. I had replaced the rotors a year ago so I found that odd. When asked for a reason why rotors need to be replaced guy couldn't give a definite answer, just said wouldn't replace pads until rotors were replaced as well. Pads were thin but still good for 3-4 more months so no metal on metal contact or screeching noise when braking. Trying to rip me off and upsell additional not required services. I had the most incredible experience the other morning when I pulled into Central Firestone in Ontario, California. These excellent professionals took my car right in, examined the rotors for safety and quoted me a spectacular price for new ceramic pads matched to my car's specific OEM specifications. Growing up in Detroit, I know cars. And I really know people who know cars. When I arrived, I could hear the workers literally chatting about brakes, like it was their hobby. They were deep into it! You could tell they super knew their stuff. Not too much later, the owner showed up. A fascinating gentleman who obviously had supreme knowledge of auto works and was great to speak with on a number of levels. They ordered the parts from their nearby supplier and I walked over to a restaurant to inhale a burger and some coffee. By the time I got back they had already finished the job, amazingly, and the car was parked in the lot. It's a few days later now and I will totally say, this thing hasn't driven so smooth in years. The stopping is so cush, the confidence that I have now is so assuring that I feel like I can drive for miles and miles with no worry whatsoever - which I totally have been doing hahaha. I've been visiting Firestone in Montclair, CA for some years now. I go to this location because it's close to my home. Sometimes I do feel like the manager and staff will try and upsell even if not entirely necessary. Overall they do a good job. I wanted to trust this shop, but they've done me wrong today. Steve you know what you did... and it was not the right thing. free alignment was promised since the day they quoted me for a set of 4 tires. i came back eventhough the final price was higher than what was quoted for, i figured the free alignment would make it worth it. i kept an eye out when they've working on my car, and my car never even made it to the alignment rack. when i confronted Steve he said yeah, its done. after all the bs he tried to throw at me then he said my car didnt need an alignment. i asked for a printout of the alignment report, and he said we dont do that here. i wonder why? So right after i left this place i went straigt to another shop to get it aligned. look at the attached photo... does that look like i dont need an alignment? Cmon Steve you could do better than that. This aint my first rodeo, i used to own a shop, and its guys like you that gives other honest shop a bad reputation. all it took was half hour of "true" labor and i wouldve been your return customer. shame. read more

The facts only: on April 22, 2020 I went to this place for a brake job. It turned out to be about a 4 hour ordeal after they initially ordered the wrong parts and had them delivered....we had to start all over when they realized they messed up. The mechanic pressured me to get rotors so I FaceTimed a mechanic friend of mine in front of the rotors to get his opinion. He asked me to run my fingers along them and to examine them for ridges. He assured me that I didn't need rotors and this was standard operating procedure for a lot of these shops to make money. The owner seemed very annoyed that I was not going to get the rotors replaced and made it a point to tell me he wouldn't warrant the job. My sensor had literally just gone off, I had no squeaking, so I was pretty confident all things considered and after speaking with my mechanic friend Rotors were unnecessary. Fast forward to May 26, 2020 barely a month later and my sensor is activated for BRAKES!!!! After looking underneath my car I see a long sensor and plug loose and hanging underneath my brakes!!!! I call on the morning of May 29, 2020 to let him know I would need to bring the car back in. That afternoon I walk in and the owner asks me what the issue is and states immediately something about me not getting rotors and that whatever parts he receives thats what he puts on the car. Literally anything but accepting responsibility for the work. I said listen this has nothing to do with rotors, and you should be making sure that parts put on cars are correct can you please just fix the sensor so i can be on my way. He also mentioned something about me having to come back because he'll have to order a part blah blah blah. We all know how long it takes to get another sensor sent and plug it on! He had an attitude with me because I didn't want to hear excuses, i just wanted my car fixed. Bottom line, he tells me if I'm going to have an attitude I should go someplace else. I said "excuse me?" And he continued with this narrative as if I had come in being disrespectful, rude or loud. I simply wanted my BMW brakes fixed properly according to what I paid for. I told him i would go elsewhere to which he THREW MY KEYS across the desk at me and they hit somewhere between my hands and chest. That's when i cursed him out epically and he asked me to leave and threatened to call the police on me. Typical narrative that this white man tried to create to make me appear like the angry black woman after he throws something at me.... Save yourself money, time, dignity... don't go to this establishment particularly is you are a person of color. If you disagree with him or his work or ask him to fix his mistakes he will accuse you of "having an attitude" and then threaten to call the police on you. read more

I called in from the Hyundai Dealer after getting a quote to get new brakes and rotor resurfacing. Hyundai's price was $250 with an additional $99 for brake fluid. I came into Fenik's Auto and they personally took me into the shop to show me that my rotors were not able to be resurfaced. They wanted to show me their honesty and the employee took me in and gavee the best price possible and was able to price match a Groupon deal. Total out the door was $232! This included new brakes and new rotors. He even refilled my brake fluid for free. Total time they took was 45 minutes. I have never been more satisfied with a mechanic until I came here! So I bought a groupon for brake service the title says full service including brake pads. But really it only includes brake pads plus labor like most other groupons so be aware. I already knew that only my front brakes needed repair because i had them checked somewhere else, but the price was too high though it was explained at the previous mechanic what I needed exactly. So I come into Feniks and they check everything which is fine. He says I also need new rotors and the groupon only covers brake pads and labor. When I refuse the extra $135 he's quoted he's upset and my car is left lifted for an hour. This may not seem like a big deal, but as a woman it made me feel helpless and trapped because at this point you know someone is purposely being spiteful towards you. When I received my car he didn't ask when I'd be back to redeem my voucher so clearly they don't want my service thank god groupon returned my money. I won't be here again. read more
