I've been here several times now. I brought in my 16 yr Pomeranian Max for a checkup who was having seizures. Unfortunately, Max passed away back in January 2020. I have another Pomeranian Louie, who I rescued from a cruel family. They beat him and kept him outside for three months chained up in the sweltering heat and rain.Louie is a beautiful 3 year old toy Pomeranian. I brought him here for a check up. Just recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic somerset veterinarian group does things a little bit differently. I had to make an appointment over the phone, and once I arrived I was asked to wait in my car and they would come out and get me. No one waits in their waiting room anymore, they bring you right into an exam room. If you just need medication you can call over the phone and give them your credit card number and they will leave the package outside in a special area designated. If your pet needs bloodwork then they must be seen first. They are taking great precautions to keep everyone safe. I love Dr. Miller she is very kind and caring veterinarian. I have used another vet at the office who also was very nice. They put my dog at ease, he's very scared and anxious around people and the staff really takes good care of my Louie. They throughly explain everything that my dog will need in order to stay healthy. I'm given a list that is itemized and has each fee listed. They will work with you if you don't have a lot of money. I was directed on which shots are the most needed at the time, and then advised to the ones that can wait a little bit. This way you don't get stuck with a $500 bill all at once. I also like that they were associated with Animerge in Somerville. That is an emergency veterinarian hospital that's open 24 hours. I cannot say enough about this staff. We went in because our dogs eyes were extremely red after a few days and we thought it was more serious than allergies. It turns out our dog had a very serious condition that required immediate emergency surgery. Our vet diagnosed the issued within minutes, thoroughly explained it to us and called hospitals herself until she got us a surgery same day (on a holiday weekend no less) and even got us a quote so that we knew what to expect financially. The advice of Dr. Abby Oratio and her technician Christine saved my dogs life, and I could not be more grateful for their rapid response to this situation. read more

I brought my sick puppy here for the first time and they got me seen right away. The office staff is very friendly and accommodating. The vet tech was very nice and helpful in asking the right questions. She was very thorough in her pre screening. I also thought that the vet was knowledgeable about preventative care as well as his current issue he was being seen for. She gave great recommendations and didn't over charge us. She even gave us free samples. She even knew a lot about golden retrievers specifically which eased my mind a lot and made me confident in her practice. As long as you're clear when you're arrive what you want for your visit, they will give you all of the services you do or do not want. My family simply adores Dr. Lentis. Our dog, Lily, has had a plethora of health problems over the last year and a half or so, and she has helped us to get through literally all of them. She shows true compassion and really gets to know her patients. One of Lily's issues involved having her spleen and gall bladder removed (referred out to red bank). Dr. Lentis actually drove over to the other facility after her scheduled shift at SVG and scrubbed in so that she could make sure lily was doing ok and also to see if she could get any information for us early. A year later she again referred us to a specialist for a neck problem and, so far (knock on wood) that treatment is ALSO going well. Dr. Lentis went so far as to even text doctors that she knew to make sure Lily could see the best of the best: and then texted us to see how she was doing afterwards. What a couple of reviewers have said is partially true: they are not the cheapest around but, honestly, I am perfectly content to pay more to ensure that my dog gets the kind of care she has received here. Dr. Lentis, thank you for always treating our Lily like she's your own, giving us a shoulder to cry on when we thought we needed it and, even better, giving us hope that we were crying prematurely!!! read more

We have been going to this vet for at least 5 years now. Please be aware that if you cancel your appointment you are put on a list, that when you make your next appointment, you will be charged $95 deposit. I did not realize that until today. I guess I while back I had a situation and had to cancel an appointment at the last minute- I figured that was the respectful thing to do, rather than just not show up, but because it was at the last minute this caused me to be put on the "Deposit required list". I know it's a business but there is also customer service, people have things come up now and again that cannot be avoided. If it happens all the time, I get it there needs to be something put into place, but it seems a bit extreme when it happens from calling to let them know you won't be able to make it. All the times I have called to try to get in the same day for something serious and they have nothing and don't help me or fit me in. It's a shame. Not sure if I will be going back to this Vet. read more

The care from this vet was absolutely wonderful. We unfortunately only went a few times, before our rescue dog needed to be put down. However we brought him here to have him put down, and the experience couldn't have been more pleasant. For what an unfortunate day it was, the vet was wonderful, and all the staff were great. This message is written with a sad heart but one that must be written with the intent to save the lives of your loved pets. It is with great sadness that we just said goodbye to our beloved dog, Daisy. Her life was short. Only three years. Most of us had a wonderful holiday. My family and I spent the holidays waiting to see if Daisy would take her last breath. She died in my arms on December 27, 2019. It is a death which could have and should have been avoided had she received the proper treatment. But let me start at the beginning. Daisy became ill a few weeks back. She was shaking, lethargic and had red eyes. She was not herself. So, we tried a new Vet. We brought her to Dr. Miller of Somerset Veterinarian Group. She simply took her temperature, diagnosed her with anxiety, possible pink eye, and sent her home. AT NO TIME DID SHE SUGGEST OR OFFER A BLOOD TEST. Had she done so, I would not be writing this, and Daisy would still be alive today. Then, last Saturday, five days after the initial visit, I called Dr. Miller and asked for an appointment that day since Daisy was getting progressively worse. I called the first thing in the morning. They were "too busy." I then asked to speak with Dr. Miller to discuss what was going on.. Again, she was "too busy," and she had a staff member call me about "my dog" and told me that if I thought something was wrong then to bring her to the hospital. We then brought her to another Vet, who was also busy, but took us anyway, even when they were closing. Once we relayed the same symptoms to this vet, she immediately did blood work. The blood work revealed that Daisy was suffering from Lyme Disease, which had caused her kidneys to become infected. She was immediately rushed to the hospital and stayed in ICU for three days. However, due to the delay in treatment, when there was nothing more they could do, she came home so we could take care of her in her last days. She passed away two days after Christmas. So, my public service announcement is this. Please do not go to this veterinarian group. As far a I am concerned, they were negligent in their treatment and misdiagnosis of Daisy's treatment;. Second, although you may not think Lyme can be fatal, it is. So, give your pets an extra big hug tonight, and please check them for ticks. But no matter what, do not go to Somerset Veterinarian Group. Love you and miss you Daisy! RIP read more

I highly recommend this practice. My family has been coming here my entire life (Really, my mom started coming here when she was 14, she just turned 84!), and they are truly the best. WORST VET EVER... AMPUTATED DOGS TAIL My dog's tail was amputated here.. Was he sick? No? Did it get amputated because of a procedure the vet did? Yes. Was there a big stress to us about the fact that there was ANY CHANCE his tail could be amputated from the procedure he was getting? NO! Would we have ever done it if we knew there was a great chance his tail would be amputated and he would be in pain for multiple weeks? Did we spend thousands of dollars to get his tail amputated? Yes. Did they do "us a favor" by covering the amputation because they realized they SCREWED up big times? Yes. People are absolutely disgusted and shocked, beyond words when they hear about how this practice screwed us. Our dog went through weeks of pain, beyond words, 24/7 pain. We spent thousands of dollars to somehow have our dog's tail chopped off, we lost sleep, had major trauma, and all for what? Nothing. I would NEVER EVER EVER recommend this practice to anyone, as I have shared with tons of people and will continue to. They owe us so much, but yet, would not cover a medicine going forward because "it did not connect to the amputation" and said, "we must pay upfront before anything, that is the new protocol." That's a sick joke. We moved vets right away and WOW, I knew how horrific this practice was but I did not realize it until we moved to a new vet just how bad it really was. As I have and will continue to tell people about the tragedies we had here, I would never recommend this to anyone after the nightmare we went through. One of my biggest regrets in my life is going to this vet. And I am so serious about this! This should not be kept a secret. Especially since their way of handling it was "covering the cost of the amputation" as if they did not cause this and that is their way of fixing this situation? I would cover that too and all other costs if I put someone through this tragedy for both the dog and the family. This is a disgrace. The more people that learn about this, the more they are shocked and tell us to keep reporting this and letting people know, as this should NEVER EVER HAPPENED. I do not see many people recommend this vet at all anymore online which shows me we are only one of many who have left this vet, as I have also learned in conversations with others who have moved to our new vet. read more

Hello! So even though I was not able to go with my boyfriend (Jason) to the veterinary hospital with his dog, BlackJack, I was able to hear how happy Jason was over the phone! He mentioned how ecstatic he was to see how happy BlackJack was throughout the time of the visit! According to Jason, all of the girls there were extremely wonderful and were kind to his BIG ol' puppy. :) I'm sure BlackJack wasn't mind that factor either, because he was receiving all of the attention AND treats! When Jason was with the veternarian (Colleen Miller; I'm not sure if he told me the correct name), I asked him to describe me the vet. He told me she's a blonde in her late 30s, and she was really good in describing the reasons why BlackJack was having his symptoms. She gave Jason some really useful tips on how to proparely care for his pet. Unlike BlackJack's old vet, Dr. Miller was a sweet woman who really took the time to accommodate for BlackJack when his thighs & hips were hurting him. She actually evaluated him from where he was sitting, and went from there. The service that was provided here was beyond exceptional! It had definitely exceeded Jason's expectations. He will definitely be letting all of his friends and coworkers know what they're missing out on for their beloved dogs/pets. In addition, when asked for a printout of the visit, Jason was given a PRINTED OUT paper of everything that was done, given, and noted. At the end of the visit, it costed $480 without pet insurance. Even though it was expensive, but in the long run, it was worth every penny for the quality of service that they had brought to the table today. Along with a full body check-up with blood testing for heartworm disease, BlackJack was given a month's supply of thyroid pills and a year's supply of heartworm medication to prevent the disease. In two weeks' time, he was be heading back to the hospital for a follow-up (All ready included in price). read more

I am so pleased with Spooky's care. She has major travel anxiety which in turn gives me anxiety to bring her anywhere. As soon as we arrived we were directed to the cat waiting area where the tech sprayed a calming spray on a towel and placed it over the crate. Within minutes Spooky was calm and much more relaxed. The tech and Doctor were knowledgable and took great care with my cat. The exam took place right in the room with me, and she was brought into a separate room to have blood drawn, which took less than 5 minutes. I was not pressured to have any services performed and I was explained all of my options before choosing, including the costs. When it was time to leave, they let me keep the towel and spray more of the calming spray so Spooky could have a calm ride home. I'm very satisfied with the care Spooky received. read more

In November of 2013 I got a call from a family member about a kitten. This was a tiny guy who would need a lot of time, he was maybe a week old. We brought him in and saw Dr. Feeney. She is such a cat person! She advised us what to do and how to care for such a tiny guy. He was 10oz at his first visit! We kept in contact, with Dr. Feeney reaching out to us to see how he was progressing. We've mostly seen Dr. Feeney for our three cats, but on one occasion when our baby hurt his foot we saw Dr. Miller. It was a last minute appointment because he hurt his foot overnight and they squeezed us in on a Saturday. Dr. Miller remembered our baby from when he was at the hospital for his neutering. She cradled him and told us she thought he was so cute and remembered him and wanted to take him home. The receptionists I've encountered are friendly and caring. The technicians are professional and true animal lovers. I don't live near this animal hospital, but for me and my pets it is worth the trip. read more

If you asked me how long I've been going to Somerset Vets, I couldn't even guess. It's been forever. They always treat my pets and their people with concern, care and gentleness. One time I had Lexi in for her annual and she got her distemper shot. While I was checking out, my grandson told me that Lexi vomited on the floor. Before I knew what was happening the whole staff came charging to the waiting room like the "Light Brigade". To me it was a mess to wipe up. To them it was a reaction to the vaccine! Who knew? In minutes they had her stabilized and comfy in the treatment room, surrounded by people spoiling her like crazy. I was so grateful and so relieved to see how well she was cared for. She had to stay for a few hours and ended up in observation overnight at Animerge, because they weren't there at night, but she survived and is amazing. Even, sadly, when I had to allow my pets to cross the rainbow bridge, they had a sitting room for the family to spend those last precious moments with their pets. It made a miserable experience a bit tolerable. Wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. read more

This is our first time here and I can't imagine a better place to bring our pet to... This place is nice and clean, everyone is friendly and our experience was truly wonderful! Edit: We received antibiotics for our pet and due to a technician's error we ran out of our 2 week meds, 1 week after we started. We called and they apologized, offered to rectify the error and gave us another week of antibiotics, however they didn't give us another week more they only gave us half a week more.. the very next morning I call and the technician Joanne rudely tells me that she gave me enough and that I don't know how to measure my pets medicine (I'm a healthcare professional and I administer medicine to patients on a daily basis). She then proceeds to tell me that I need to squeeze the bottle because it's all in there and hangs up on me. I go to the office after I get off the phone with her and she starts to scold me aggressively telling me that she gave me more than what's in the bottle and that she's sure and that I don't know what I'm doing... after she rudely and reluctantly agrees to refill it she tells me "by the way, the manager's name is Sue if you need to speak to her" with a sassy challenging attitude. It's really a shame they hire incompetent miserable souls like Joanne that stain the reputation and ruin the experience of such a wonderful facility with caring and hard working staff. Sue, the manager apologized for the poor experience and said she was sorry I felt that way, which bothered me because it's not about how I feel, it's how her tech actually treated me in front of other staff members and clients. I understand we all make mistakes but it's not the mistakes that bothered me it's the lying and handling of the situation that really ticked me off. I certainly don't feel comfortable bringing my cat to this facility as long as that incompetent and rude technician works there. It left a horrible taste in my mouth and it was very very disappointing because I truly loved the way our first visit went and how wonderful everybody was towards us. read more

We have been bringing our pets to Somerset Vet Group since 1978. A lot of things have changed but quality and understanding has always been consistent. We remember "old" Dr North and continued to use "young" Dr North until his retirement. How can you not like a Vet who dresses as Santa and receives his animal groupies for photos, sitting in a Santa Chair under a sign that says "North Pole"???? I cannot imagine a better vet to take your babies to. We live an hour away and gladly make the drive. The peace of mind that Dr. Feeney has given us is priceless. I cannot imagine taking my babies to another vet. They have such friendly technicians and receptionists, and it's always such a pleasant experience with them. You can see from other reviewers that the Somerset location is fantastic. (In my personal opinion, the woman who gave the one star seems to have been in the wrong. A two week dose lasted her one week, and then a week dose lasted her half a week. Kinda seems as if she was doubling the doses on accident. But that's just my opinion.) The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you're getting the best care possible for your pet. I couldn't afford treatment so they set me up with a reasonable payment plan. I am absolutely crazy about my boys, and I trust the Somerset vets to care for them. In June we had to put our baby girl down. Dr. Feeney made sure she was comfortable and knew she was loved in her last minutes with us. You don't see that in other places and I will never forget that compassion. I switched to Somerset Veterinary Group about 2 years ago and it is the best thing I ever did! Any time my Goldendoodle needs care, the front desk staff always fits us in for an appointment, even if it is last minute. Recently, my groomer found a tumor in my dog's mouth and within 2 hours we were seen. Dr. Piffer is so sweet and caring and immediately did surgery the next day to remove the growth. She called me right away after the surgery and followed up immediately with the results. The results were not very favorable and turned out to be an aggressive melanoma. Dr. Piffer faxed over her paperwork to the specialist right away. After seeing the oncologist, I really needed advice on our options, Dr. Piffer called me back right away and made me feel better and helped work through some decisions. After we got the lymph node results back, I still needed some more advice and had the pleasure of speaking to Dr. Feeney. During the course of one day Dr. Feeney spoke to me three times. She never rushed me off the phone and spent a good deal of time, helping me make the decision to move forward with surgery. She contacted the pathologist for further information without me even having to request it. Amazing doctors!! Their technicians that assist them are all so friendly and helpful.
