This place (former location of Epiphany), is such a cool vibes place. Moderately quiet, with some nice classic rock and soul music going on. Awesome ambiance! The service was super above par. Immaculate staff here! The hostess, Megan, greeted with a huge hello and welcome and actually figured out she was a manager!!! She stayed at our table for a bit after we ate and asked for feedback! She really wanted to know our thoughts! Our server Celestial was great with us as well! Great suggestions on drinks, apps, and entrees! She seemed very knowledgable of the menu items. Great personality, and glad we got her as our server! Now, probably wondering why I didn't give it a 5 star rating....yet! The food was quite... mediocre for the prices given. The Fondita was fantastic. I got the fish tacos. Covered with a ton of slaw, and smothered with Valentina hot sauce, and a few small pieces of fish. I couldn't even taste the fish! It was somewhere in between extremely bland and just plain out heat from the hot sauce. This is my fiancé's favorite restaurant in town, and it's easy to see why. Both the brunch and dinner menu's are full of great dishes, and there is something for even the most picky eater. The food always comes out quickly, and the service is always top notch. We typically order an entree and appetizer and have enough food to feed us for under $20. I thought Central Mesa was outstanding. It is not a typical Mexican restaurant where you are automatically served chips and salsa and the menus are pretty much a carbon copy. Instead, Central Mesa offers some creative dishes that have Latin influences. I ordered the Pork Belly and Turnip Greens as my entree. This dish is Southern not Latin, and I loved it. The greens were cooked down, but not overcooked. Three thick slices of pork belly were braised. They were firm and parts were crispy. I also ordered a cup of Black Bean soup. This was possibly the best black bean soup ever! The soup was rich and creamy. It had chopped jalapeños that added a perfect amount of spiciness. Get the Black Bean soup, you won't be disappointed. The service was above average. Our party of four dined on a very busy Friday night. We arrived at 6:00 and had to wait 45 minutes for a table. The bar was crowded, but is a good area to wait in. Our bartender was efficient and he mixed drinks with great attention to detail. My margarita with jalapeño and strawberry was fresh and unique. After being seated we informed our waiter that we were planning to attend the concert at the amphitheater. Dinner went smoothly, our orders came out quickly, and our waiter got us checked out in time to make the show. read more

I will start by saying that I am a huge advocate for great small restaurants in Tuscaloosa. We don't have many great ones so when I come by one I love, I rave about it to everyone I know and on my social media platforms. With that being said I hate to give this place two stars because I have absolutely loved this place since it opened. Let me start with the positive. The overall re-branding was great. I love the black detailing inside, the neon sign, and the aesthetic of the overall place. Also the margaritas and the appetizers were good. We had the salsa, corn dip and cheese dip. Unfortunately, since the new ownership has reopened and rebranded the food is not near the same. This was my first time back since they re-branded so my friends and I visited a few nights ago. The food was not up to the Central Mesa standard that I was used to. The chorizo was so over seasoned and over cooked with spices that you couldn't even eat it. The Barbacoa carnitas seemed like an after thought of a dish to throw on the menu. It was more like a cheese flatbread with minimal toppings. Also, the Tortilla chips were over salted. If I could recommend anything to the new owner is to go back to the original menu or add more options from the original menu on to the new one. Hopefully I can go back in the future and I'll have a better experience, but until then I wanted to give my honest opinion! read more

Second time to Central Mesa and first of which was for lunch. The first time I ate at Central Mesa, it was the week they opened a quote a cluster. I was seated quickly and had my drink order taken. I got the Tuesday special Central Mesa margarita along with the Cuban sandwich. Central Mesa isn't like your typical Mexican/southwest restaurant so there are no chips included with the meal unless you order them. The margarita had a great taste and had the perfect amount of ingredients to it. I sometimes worry about them being too strong or too much mix when I go to different places. The Cuban sandwich added pulled pork to it unlike your normal Cuban. The sauce that they bring out with it is amazing and so good for dipping with the sandwich. I really like the fries and hey are he same as their Sister restaurant Avenue Pub except they have a little more seasoning on them. It's not the fastest lunch, but if you have the time it is well worth it. read more

Great food with lots of flavor. I order the Mahi soft tacos and a side of Spanish rice, the tacos were one of the most tasteful tacos I had in town. The pickled onions compliments the blacken mahi and is topped off with a Baja ranch, which only adds to the flavor. I was never a fan of Spanish styled rice until now, the rice had the perfect amount of flavor to eat alone or with tacos. A very nice addition to Tuscaloosa's upscale restaurants! I really enjoyed my Nashville hot chicken tacos and queso w/chips, but I tried the fish tacos and was pretty disappointed in those to be honest which is odd as fish tacos are hard to mess up. If your in the mood for upscale Mexican you could go here, but with Don Tonos so close by and for half or even less than half the bill I would just head there read more
