It saddens me to have to write this review for Dr. Ellis. I think that she's very knowledgeable and does great quality of work. However, several months ago, she told me that I would need two inlay procedures done and since I trust her, I agreed to receive the treatment. She told me what the out-of-pocket costs would be but I wanted to double-check with my insurance first because this wasn't cheap work I needed done. The communication between her office and my insurance company was pretty terrible (perhaps nonexistent) but I eventually found out that these procedures were 100% covered by my insurance and so I shouldn't be paying for any of these out-of-pocket costs. Ever since telling her this, I've been completely ignored by her office. None of my calls or texts were ever returned, which surprises me because I've never been ignored by a medical professional before. I'm interested to hear the reason why I've been neglected as a client. I have the strong suspicion that her office doesn't like to deal with insurance and would rather work with patients who can pay all out of pocket. That's totally fine if that's your preference because it's your business....but then let me know before taking me on as a patient or at the very least, have the courage to tell me rather than leaving me in the dark! read more

I have seen 3 different general dentists and 2 specialists in NYC, I have to say this was the worst experience I have ever had. TBH, she is good at identifying issues, but her bed manners..ugh... I came here to do the post after root-canal. I was so surprised (and scared) that there were water stains on the mirror she used (that was the mirror put in my mouth!) She found a cave under my gum during the process. She asked the guy at front-desk to take a picture of the bad teeth, and she was very careless when she was using the mirror leaning again my tongue. I felt so uncomfortable and finally asked 'what is going on here'. And yes, she finally told me there was a cave and the situation was more difficult than she thought. She told me I needed a surgery before she put the crown. Eventually, she finished the post and put a temporary filling and told me to come in the second day as there would be a specialist coming in. Third time I came here for the surgery. As I just got a new dental insurance, I was a little confused about how my insurance works regarding 'out-of-pocket' and 'maximum benefit' at the very beginning. I asked her if the 2k was 'out-of-pocket' or 'maximum', she was really rude and said with a high voice (I don't want to say she yelled at me) "do you know what maximum means?" Till then, I had no idea why she's this arrogant. During the surgery, she was supposed to take my temporary filling out first. It just took her forever to do that. She was so careless. When she was pulling that filling out, my jaw felt pain (not too much, but uncomfortable). During the surgery, when the specialist asked her to pass him something, she kept mistaking two different things. After the surgery, the prescription usually should be sent electronically to the CVS, but she just asked me to drop off. I am fed up with this. There are so many professional and nice dentists in New York. Choose wisely. read more

Dealing with Dr. Edna Ellis is a nightmare. She does not keep her word and at every opportunity changes what she says. She "DOES NOT KEEP HER WORD." I found Dr Edna Ellis on Groupon and bought a coupon for a tooth whitening, which came out alright . However, I did notice that doing work in her office was not straightforward. They do so many procedures in her office including Botox( why is a Dentist doing Botox) made me feel like she would sell me anything whether I needed it or not. She didn't behave like a Dentist in a Professional Manner, but more like a USED CAR SALESWOMAN!!!! A year or so later, I scheduled another whitening which didn't work. I called her and she told me she would redew it, but I should wait at least 6 Months as my teeth would be to sensitive. When I rescheduled 6 months later, she told her assistant she planned on charging me an additional $65. When I requested to speak to DR. ELLIS, they have a routine, that she can't speak to me as she's with a patient but then gets on the phone. She had every excuse in the book, interrupted me and would not let me speak and then" HUNG UP ON ME!!!" When i called back her assistant hung up on me. She's a thief, has no integrity and a liar!!! I plan on reporting her to every available DENTAL organization and the Better Business Bureau . I have used many different dentist in my life and every one was courteous, kept their word and fixed anything if I was unhappy with, which rarely happened as they maintained the highest standards. Dr. Ellis DOES NOT!!! My advise is DO NOT USE EDNA ELLIS, SHE IS A SHISTA AND A TERRIBLE DENTIST!!!!!!! GO THERE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! THEY HAVE THIS SET SO YOU CAN'T GIVE THEM A 0 STARS,WHICH SHE DESERVES!! You whitened my teeth before with you and they were fine which is why I made another appointment 6 months ago. You never told me it might not work at all. It didn't work this time, and that iswhy I made another appointment. You told me you would redew in the future and you never mentioned an additional charge? For you to change your promise to just redew as you told me 6 months ago in my opinion is very unethical? If it hadn't worked originally a year and a half ago I would have never returned. I had no intention of getting laminates, I just was inquiring about it. I have been here twice in two years and have not had spectacular experiences, the second one being the worse. The woman who did the cleaning told me that my teeth weren't in great shape and some damage could be the beginning of gum disease. YIKES. I wanted to speak to the doctor who gave me the cleaning the previous year to ask her opinion and to talk about my concerns.But she was leaving on a trip so my visit was shortened and I was brushed off. I spoke to her for less than 4 minutes and her answers were very succinct. I contacted her office a few days later and she offered to have me come in for a no charge consultation and answer my questions, but I was really soured by the whole experience and have found someone else. I work so I"m not going to come in for another visit when I shouldn't have gotten that appointment in the first place. I wasn't even late for my appointment. At my last visit they also offered me a foot massage which was not offered the first time. It is in a nice location with a nice view, but I would rather have less spa and more service. read more

I've been going to Central Park Dental spa since the beginning of this year, and the experience has been excellent! Dr. Ellis is truly caring, takes time to diagnose my problems, and explains what I should do very thoroughly every time. Dr. Ellis fixed two decayed teeth, and took out another due to a major gum abscess, which went well. Not to mention, when she sent me to another doctor for related treatments, she asked him to give me a great discount. I'm glad that I found Dr. Ellis, as now I have a dental office I can rely on. I'm not sure about some reviews that aren't positive, but I know Dr. Ellis is very talented and has a good heart. read more

I just went to "Dr. So-and-So" because they were colleagues of my parents with a great clinical reputation. That changed when I moved to NYC; all of my doctors were back in CA. I had no idea who to see and my father suggested that I try ZocDoc. I saw some great reviews for Dr. Eda Ellis and scheduled an appointment. ZocDoc is the OpenTable of health care and it was a stress-free process - I just picked a date/time that worked best for me. Dr. Ellis is sweet and no-nonsense. She knows her stuff. You can tell she really enjoys her work and her patients. The office environment is modern and serene looking. There's an emphasis on holistic health. I try to schedule my 6-month check-ups on reflexology days. Free foot massages while getting your teeth cleaned may sound weird, but it is a FANTASTIC perk. The reflexologists are AMAZING. While in the chair you have a great view of Central Park. The office sends email reminders regarding upcoming appointments which you can confirm or cancel online. RECOMMENDED. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Ellis for nearly four years. I grew up in the south with one dentist my entire life. So moving to NYC several years ago, I struggled to find a dentist here who was as caring, gentle, and skilled as the dentist I had in my youth. Dr Ellis is incredible and her dental assistants are just as amazing. They take the time to do a thorough cleaning and its certainly a plus to have a beautiful location with a huge window overlooking Central Park while you're having your teeth cleaned! Dr Ellis fixed my terrible teeth. To give some context, I am from a 3rd world country where I got sub-standard dental care for 35 years along with mercury-laden fillings since the 80's. I guess I must have been one of Dr Ellis' worst cases. My fear of needles is not only a fear - I feel extreme pain when getting injections but Dr Ellis took great care to minimize the pain to the point that I don't have any anxiety when visiting her office. The dental hygienist who does my regular cleaning is amazing as well. Such a good way with speaking with me, giving great advice and spotting & taking care of problem areas. Dr Ellis definitely takes a holistic approach to dental care and is a perfectionist. Over the past 5+ years, she took care of every one of my dental problems, including removing my old fillings which had been leaching for many years and making me very sick. I feel so much better. She is the best dentist ever and I owe her my smile. read more

It's teeth lightening, not teeth whitening, at this place. Got the groupon for whitening at $130. Dentist was pleasant enough and I left feeling good. Didn't really have time to assess the results until I got back to the office. At first I was trying to kid myself that they were whiter. After a day I realized that they were just marginally lighter so I called them and explained my concerns. Dentist offered to do it again. Took her up on the offer. She turned pretty aggressive and said I had unrealistic expectations for the whitening. I do whitening every two years or so and I usually feel great about the results. This was just meh. Went here on a groupon. Office has great views though it's not like you can gaze out the window while you are reclined in the chair getting work done. Doctor was knowledgeable and explained everything very clearly, I definitely felt taken care of and appreciate that she spent the time to make sure I understood what was going on. I suspect she may have recommended some treatments that were not immediately necessary, but who am I to say, she obviously knows more than I do. Sweet looking blonde hygienist was unbelievably heavy handed. I'm pretty good about getting my teeth cleaned regularly and admittedly, its not like getting your teeth cleaned is exactly a soothing spa treatment. I have NEVER had a dentist that I liked. This is a total first. Went to her today for a exam and cleaning. she spent no less then 2 hours with me (she even did the cleaning.... which i have NEVER had a dentist do before ever.) gave me the most thorough exam and actually helped to catch some fillings that needed to be fixed. Explained all costs and potential costs up front and even gave me a printed service sheet that explained every procedure she would do, what was covered by insurance, what was not and even what kind of filling she was using and what they were. Eda is the sweetest nicest lady I have ever dealt with and for the first time in my life, i am actually saying i'm looking forward to my next dentist appt. (???? crazy i know) read more

I went in for a cleaning and exam. Though the website says (and at least another reviewer has had the service) that reflexology is included while the cleaning is done, this was not offered or provided to me. I was told I had three cavities and the dentist told me she wasn't going to pressure me to fix them right away, at the end of the cleaning she changed her tune. I felt really pressured to make another appointment. She charges over $300 per filling and the receptionist fought with me before I left because I wouldn't make a follow up. The cleaning was sub-par. I didn't feel that clean/fresh feeling when I left. In all, I felt like I wasted my time and money. I went back to my old dentist who said that none of them were cavities (but that i did have a chipped filling, which he fixed). My current dentist has all positive reviews on Yelp and a 1 month waiting list to see him which is why I started searching for someone more accessible. When I wanted to have my x-rays transferred over to my regular dentist they tried to charge me $45 to print them and mail them to me. It's illegal to charge more than the processing fee for a paitent to obtain their medical records in NYS. Service wasn't good, staff pushy and practices illegal. read more

I got Zoom! Teeth Whitening here yesterday through Groupon and overall my experience was completely satisfying. The staff were warm, welcoming and very professional. The service was exactly what I expected from watching online videos- however there is one thing I wasn't prepared for- the pain! Extreme tooth sensitivity after professional whitening is To Be Expected and this is one thing I didn't realize when I scheduled the procedure!! My teeth hurt so bad immediately afterwards that I couldn't even open my mouth to look at the results in the hand mirror Dr. Ellis gave me. I'm giving 4/5 stars because when I asked for a pain relieving gel or mouth rinse I was told they had run out. I can't forgive that. Anything that hurts this bad should be accompanied by in-office pain relief. Luckily I had some ibuprofen in my bag. For the rest of the day I hardly spoke and even at home I kept a scarf wrapped around my face to protect my mouth from air flow, but I still had many "zingers". About NINE hours later, when the pain finally subsided a bit, I chanced my first glance in the mirror and THE RESULTS ARE SPECTACULAR! I woke up this morning with no pain and the brightest teeth I've ever had. 24 hours later and still not comfortable smiling out in the cold air for fear of more zingers but I can already feel my self-confidence sky-rocketing. I guess beauty and pain will always go hand in hand. I never expected my teeth to be this white because of Groupon. Dr. Ellis I owe you the world! I would definitely recommend this place but I suggest packing orajel and stocking up on pain pills before you go! Also there isn't a tv to watch while you're undergoing the whitening and it can tingle a bit uncomfortably throughout so keep your phone and headphones handy for distraction! Dr. Eda Ellis is the worst dentist I've ever visited. She barely looked at my teeth and then tried to tell me that I had major issues that were clearly completely fabricated. I've been twice and I'm never going again. At my first visit, she told me I may have sleep apnea, which is totally false. At my most recent visit, she said that I grind my teeth. Not at all the case. In fact I confirmed with an orthodontist just three days later that I have no signs of teeth grinding. Dr. Ellis is a crook who is just trying to get money to fix issues that don't even exist. I was so happy to finally find a doctor who not only treats my teeth well but also treats me well. It's great to know that she has a whole body holistic approach to improving the quality of my teeth and health. She doesn't just drill away. Most of the dental offices that I have been to always have that sterile feeling and that weird dentist odor. Dr. Ellis's felt relaxing and nice, besides the fact that the view is great. She is very friendly and gentle and was very helpful and kind when answering all my questions. A friend of mine went because of the Groupon Ad. He was not sure exactly the ad included; but was pleasantly put at ease when Dr. Ellis clarified it for him, and explained what the costs normally are and what the procedures entail. He felt like he got a good deal..so good that he recommend her to me:) The reception was friendly when I entered the office and flexible when I was making my next appointment. My wife and I have been going to Dr. Ellis for 5 plus years now. She is my third dentist in NYC and by far the best. As a dentist she has taken great care of my teeth, helped me make decisions on and navigate through a number of difficult problems including two root canals, three plus cavities as well as numerous cleanings by their hygienist who is also great. She has been good about not pushing work that didn't need to be done, like a large cavity that we have tried to avoid getting a root canal because I would prefer not to. Also she and her assistants have a great demeanor very steady hands and give good guidance on what products to use. I did invsilign successfully through her as well. It was a long process (i kept losing my braces) but the ultimate results have been great. Highly recommend her. read more

Dr. Ellis recommends work that is not needed and then attempts to recommend alternative work or convince you to pay out of pocket when your insurance company will not pick up the claim. Then she told me I had other issues with grinding etc., that I do not have. There are so many great dentists in NY, find another. I have always wanted to Whitten my teeth, so when I saw this offer on Groupon I decided to take advantage of it. I had missed other teeth whitening coupons from Groupons. I figured this place would be like the others I had read about on Groupon...excellent customer service, knowledgeable staff, free massage and champagne(yes Groupon does have places like what I'm describing and for $99.00 I hate myself for letting THOSE OFFERs GO BY) I figured this place would be no exception because its located across the street from Central park. I was wrong. First off there is nothing spa like about this office. You don't even get offered water. No television was on, not even music playing. The 2 girls in the front were friendly and one of them ( Spanish one) knew more than the dentist. I walked in and immediately was taken to the room by the dental assistant. I didn't get an x-ray like they said on the groupon nor did I get a consultation nor cleaning. I saw the dentist for 60 seconds if that. I asked her about a little hole in my front teeth she answers its probably this or that...a small filling should do it. She asked what kind of insurance I had when I told she said yeah we, don't cover that. Which is fine but the hole is the size of crumb she could have done i out of courtesy or at least tell me how much it would be. No, nothing she walked out. The assistant added the gel left me under the light 3x in 15 minutes intervals. She was a sweetheart. I wasn't impress with results and I wasn't impressed with the treatment or the dentist. I paid $139 and what a waste of time and money. I hate leaving bad reviews but I dont want someone to feel the disappointment I felt not to mention that I thought I was going to be pampered. I wish I could give zero stars. I have had to go to the dentist many times in my life and this experience was just traumatic. She and her staff are extremely unprofessional. They cannot communicate with each other and I was left with a tooth infection because of this. What a nightmare - I now have to spend twice as much money to have this tooth fixed by another dentist. She is also unsteady and twitches, not great for a dentist. The work she did was painful! Unless all you need is a cleaning (and I doubt that is all you will need, Dr. Ellis always seems to find something wrong) I would go elsewhere. read more
