I am writing this review because I went in about a year ago to dr Chung and I was told I had to fill multiple cavities. Since moving out of NYC and to San Diego, I had seen multiple dentists and they said I didn't need any cavities filled. I feel upset because I got ripped off paying thousands out of pocket to this office. I have wasted so much money and feel taken advantage of. This really is upsetting considering my past review rated them 5/5 would recommend. I would appreciate some response or compensation for this. read more

First time visiting for a dental cleaning and had a great experience! The equipment seems pretty modern and they even have TV screens you can watch while getting your teeth cleaned - they let me pick a show to put on Netflix. All of the staff were very friendly and thorough. I'm very regular about my dentist visits (every 6 months) and have seen a couple different ones the past few years from moving around states - but Chung and his staff were able to identify a dead tooth/infection that I apparently had for a few years (they could tell it's been there a while based on the size of the infection growth shown in the x-rays). I'll need to get a root canal procedure to stop the infection from spreading! I'm appalled that my past dentists never caught this. They also pointed out several minor cavities & teeth grinding, and gave me suggestions on what I could do to solve those issues - ex. Filling the cavities, getting a mouth guard, and general tips on how I can be eating/brushing better to avoid these problems. The office lady also said she would check with my insurance to see what my out of pockets cost were and let me know, so that I could decide if I'd like to proceed with coming back for the additional work needed. You will not find a better dentist in NYC ! My entire family goes to Dr. Chung, my brother now lives out of state but they always squeeze him in when he is in town. He has plenty of after work appt slots, 5 pm and later and also sees patients one Saturday each month. Janine P his dental hygienist is AMAZING! Not only did she leave me with the best cleaning I have ever had, but her incredibly warm and supportive bedside manner took away the anxiety I almost always have about not flossing enough- Janine is always encouraging and informative, giving me tips on how to reach those hard to get back teeth, and reminding me of what I am doing well! Also Heidi at the front desk is so so sweet and kind and always remembers you! The whole team is always so willing to help you, whether it's calling your dental insurance to verify your benefits to replace the mouthguard you bit through or scheduling you for a last minute appt- they always have my back! Lastly, I want to say that if you have a loved one with a disability, this is the place to go! Dr. Chung and his entire team were beyond accommodating, compassionate, professional and kind when we brought my mom in very shortly after being discharged from the hospital following a stroke. The doctors who had intubated her saved her life BUT had chipped her two front teeth badly. She was very eager to have them fixed, but was still recovery, experiencing mild cognitive impairment, and had to be told the same thing a dozen times. Dr. Chung was so patient, emailed us the treatment plan and allowed me to record her visits so I could play back for her what he had said so she had reminders at home when she was recovering about what was going on in her mouth. Fortunately, mom is a force of nature, has made a full recovery, goes to Dr. Chung all on her own now- usually after having walked 7 or 8 miles in the park! Did I mention his office is right off of Central Park- right off of several subway lines at Columbus Circle so very convenient as well! 10/10 all day, every day! Very strict, safe COVID protocols as well! Good system of appt reminders /confirmations via text or email - so even someone w cognitive impairment wouldn't forget their appointment ! When my mom had to see an oral surgeon for a gum restoration, Dr. Chung remained very involved every step of the way, ensuring she received the best possible care so you can feel confident in the referrals he makes! read more

Been going here for probably 5 years or so - love them. Got this as a rec from a past coworker and my new jobs insurance works here too. Super nice receptionist and always takes me quickly. Does a great referral program too with 2 referrals and you get a nice electric toothbrush. Janine is the BEST. Love her. She is super understanding, great convos with her, and I genuinely love that she is always there when I get my cleanings. Dr Chung is also great. Comes in quickly and always nice. This has been a long time coming, and do not be fooled by the initial bed side manners or yelp reviews. I had been going for a few years and complained about a tooth that hurt that he would not address until 2 years later to focus on all the cavities in my mouth. After getting a crown, my teeth hurt so much that when I asked for pain relievers, he would not prescribe anything to me (also incredibly condescending) until I had my physician husband train me on the exact words to say to prescribe vicodin. 1 year after that, I had massive "cluster headaches" that would occur while I was sleeping in the middle of the night. Turns out - after getting an MRI it was nerves related to the crown that he did which was infected. I ended up going to another dentist who said that the damage had been done and I needed to do a root canal. Oh btw, stop spamming me to my email without a way to opt out. read more

Pros: the staff is VERY nice. They offer "perks" like sonicate toothbrushes, teeth whitenings etc. They even send birthday cards on occasion. If the staff had their own clinic this would be a 5 star review. Cons: Dr (?) Chung has a condescending and impatient demeanor coupled with a penchant for seeing problems with your teeth that aren't really there. Over the course of four years he consistently played up the negative doomsday scenarios about how my "gums were receding" to the point where I was crying after my dental appointments. He is a general dentist who struts around like he's the surgeon general. TLDR; Overrated. Overpriced. Overzealous to find things wrong with your teeth. Not good for your oral or mental health. read more

I never thought I would write this review, but when I received an email from Dr. Chung's office out of the blue, I took it as a sign. In 2011, I bought a Groupon for Zoom teeth whitening at Dr. Chung's office. I was getting married later in the year and decided to treat myself. The Dental Assistant who did the treatment for me was SO LOVELY. However, when she called in Dr. Chung at the end of the appointment to see the treatment results, he was immediately dismissive and very condescending. He told me, annoyed, that "if I was going to spend money on a whitening treatment, then I should take better care of my teeth." I was 28 years old at the time and had very little money. The only reason I was able to visit this very fancy office by Central Park was because of a Groupon. The whole interaction was probably less than a minute, but he made me feel horrible and ruined what was, up until his entrance, a nice experience. read more

Went to Dr Chung for a regular check up and he said I had two cavities without explaining and walked out of the room. I went to another dentist to get a second opinion and they said they didn't see anything. The office is very nice, clean, and efficient. Summary: Dr. Chung said I somehow had 8 cavities and his partner did a horrible job filling half them because I went to another dentist to verify and he said the fillings were "massive." He also only found one on my right side when Dr. Chung found 4... I went to Dr. Chung for the first time in October 2020. The office was clean and scheduling an appointment was easy. They took xrays and cleaned my teeth. But then Dr. Chung came in and said I had "a few" cavities that needed to be filled, and that 3 of my teeth were "dead" so I shouldn't bother whitening them, I would just need veneers. Of course, if I got veneers on one side I "had to" get them on the mirrored opposite side. I went back a week later to take care of the cavities (I had not been to the dentist in over year because of COVID so I believed I may have had a few). His partner dentist, whose name I don't even remember (and she's not the one listed on his website?), told me I had 8 cavities. 8! She showed me some gray marks on an xray to prove it but I'm not a dentist. I let her do the 4 on the left side and promised to make an appointment for the right side later. I made an appointment with a new dentist in January 2021 to verify the number of cavities. He found only 1 on the right side (not 4...) and fixed it quickly and delicately. The worst part? He said "wow you have some massive fillings on the left side that were recently done, right?" Never going back. read more

Discovering Dr Christian Chung transformed my relationship with dentistry. Previous dentists had trouble numbing me so I believed I had abnormal oral nerves and I associated dental work with trauma and pain. Dr. Chung's skill revealed the problem was with the doctors, not the patient, and I have enjoyed painless treatment from him ever since. It's a huge relief to be free from fear in the dentist chair. Dr. Chung and his staff are kind & efficient. His private practice in midtown is modern and clean and his Covid precautions are very reassuring. I happily travel from out of town for his superior quality of care. In our increasingly stressful world Dr Chung provides an oasis of good people doing good work for fair prices. Highly recommended. I love Dr. Chung and his entire staff. I'm fortunate enough to have never had a cavity in my entire life (and I'm almost 44 years old), but I had a horrible problem with grinding my teeth at night for many decades. I wound up cracking a molar a few years ago. Another dentist told me to just "put some fluoride toothpaste on it" and that the pain would eventually go away. The tooth sensitivity only got worse. I eventually went to Dr. Chung on a referral from a trusted friend, and it was a great decision. I wound up getting a crown due to the molar being completely cracked, and the pain went away finally. I've had some cosmetic work with him as well (I had two veneers redone that had originally been done way back in the late 1990s). His work and artistry is excellent. I am very happy with his services, his bedside manner (it's direct but honest and forthright!) and his ability to help me with preventative measures to control my teeth grinding. I have a snazzy harder night guard now that's stopped the night time tooth chipping, and I've not needed anymore crowns or veneers. As others have said, the office staff is very nice! While in New York I had what I thought was a dental emergency and was referred to Dr Chung by my dentist I use in Florida. I found Dr Chung to be not only thorough but completely charming. If I lived in New York I would definitely use him as my personal dentist. read more

I've been coming here for years - Dr Chung was my husband's dentist and I consider him to be a pretty posh one. It's possible his prices aren't discount outlet low, but come on, it's dental work. It's intricate and necessary, plus, it (in theory) shouldn't be very frequent! We pay out of pocket and with regular visits, it's affordable. Of course, I realize this statement is obnoxious because the term "affordable" depends on how much money you have. But I digress. I always get a good cleaning and my fillings are fine. I haven't had any complex procedures done and dread the day I'll need a root canal, but I've gotten my mouth guard done here, my teeth cleaned for almost 10 years, and minor dental work done, and I've always enjoyed the staff and the doc. The office sends me Christmas and Birthday cards and they have my kids names memorized. What's not to like? read more

Update: Back when I visited Dr. Chung, he told me that I had 12 cavities that needed to be filled. I was shocked because I have never had a cavity and I hadn't heard from my previous dentist that my teeth were in any kind of trouble. After the billing incident I mentioned in my first review, I never went back and I carried this shame with me that I had 12 terrible teeth. My next dentist said my teeth looked great, and it took two years with him before I finally confessed to being told I had 12 cavities at Dr. Chung's. He was shocked and assured me my teeth were in excellent condition. I have had two dentists since then -- zero cavities -- and they have all expressed surprise at Dr. Chung's analysis. Recently the Atlantic did an expose on dentists who overbill and overdrill patients. I feel like I dodged a bullet! read more

I don't leave reviews often but this place really was a turnoff- specifically Dr Chung himself. My husband and I both came here before and we both independently found Dr Chung to be a condescending and impatient doctor. When you ask him questions about dentistry he looks at you like you are stupid and gets like really antsy and unhappy when you do. Everyone around working for him are nice and seems like angels in comparison. So don't go here. He is really one of the worst I met in the city despite all these reviews of positivity. First of all, I have always been deathly afraid of dentists. I think it's the sound of the drills that get me on edge. Then, when I was 18, I found out that my super cool and hip children's dentist was a horrible dentist and that all my years of 0 cavities was all a lie. I went to a new Taiwanese dentist who told me that I really had 17+ cavities (mostly between my teeth). He proceeded to yell at me about the state of my teeth and questioned if my diet consisted of candy and soda. I spent the summer filling all these cavities as well as a very painful root canal. After this traumatizing event, I didn't know who to trust as my dentist. At my first job, I asked my co-workers for any dentist recommendations and they suggested Dr. Chung. At this time (over 5 years ago), he was at another practice. I was a little scared because from my experience some Asian doctors/dentists have been a bit rough with me while other lie to me. When I first met Dr. Chung, I was very surprised. He seemed extremely professional and kind. I told him that my teeth were pretty bad and that I've had a lot of work done. He reassured me that some people just have bad teeth even if they floss and brush their teeth (me). When I got my first filling with Dr. Chung, he was very gentle and made sure I didn't feel anything. At my previous dentist, it was common to do filings without any Novocaine since they were "small" cavities. Who knew there was a numbing agent before you even get the Novocaine shot? Also, I had no idea that X-Rays were done every other check-up. It was a whole new dentist world for me. I had a wonderful four years with Dr. Chung. I was finally able to trust him with my teeth. Then in December 2009, I got a phone call from the dental office asking if I could come in earlier for my appointment. I thought nothing of it since this has happened to me before. I arrived and had my cleaning with the hygienist. I waited for Dr. Chung and instead I saw an older Caucasian man (Dr. Schloss). I was shocked and unhappy. I asked where Dr. Chung was and only then did I find out that he had left the practice. Wow, thanks for the notice? I was pretty upset, but let Dr. Schloss give me his feedback about the state of my teeth. They had even taken X-rays! When I got home that night, I Googled Dr. Chung and I found his new office's website. I sent a very desperate and sad e-mail saying that I can't believe he left and that no one told me. The next day, he called me personally and invited me to his new office. I got my dental records sent over to Dr. Chung and when I saw him a week later, he gave me a free check-up (didn't charge me or my insurance) along with X-rays. Most insurances only allow 1 set of X-rays a year. Anyway, if it's not obvious, I LOVE Dr. Chung. I was heart-broken when he left me, but I have been reunited with him again. Even one of his hygienist (the one from Long Island) followed him from the old office, which just shows how much he's loved. His staff is always friendly and very accommodating. His new offices are so modern and clean. It's definitely a step up from his old office. I believe he told me that all the water they use is filtered and they are trying to keep a completely electronic office. Therefore all the records are electronic and scanned. I just found out that they have TVs now, so I am kind of excited for my appointment next week. Hopefully, I won't feel like passing out in the chair when I'm getting my teeth cleaned. :) read more

I'm one of those lucky S.O.B.s who has only ever gone to the dentist twice a year for cleaning/check up....and I've never written a Yelp review for a dentist.....before today....because I would be pissing off my karma if I didn't share how awesome my experience at Dr. Chung's office was. - Making the appointment was so pleasant and so easy - Office is in a super great location - Waiting room nice, clean, you feel great when you get there..... - Totally on time and bottled water while you wait - Incredibly kind and helpful receptionist - Hygienist (Maria if my mind serves) was so thorough, so friendly, not too in your business, funny, and really helpful with tips and questions (at least more so than other hygienists I've been to) - Dr. Chung - this guy knows his shit....as all dentists should....but it's apparent that he does have your dental health at the top of his priority list. I was thoroughly impressed with his "chairside manner" and wish he could fix all of my other ailments. I will not only be recommending Dr. Chung widely (after four referrals you get a Sonicare!) but will also look forward to my next visit. read more

I went to an orthodontist for years as a teenager and so the dentist office is something I have learned to cope with. I don't look forward to my visits but like a diabetic who pricks their finger regularly, dental visits are just part of my life. So, imagine my surprise when I purchased a Lifebooker special for teeth whitening and found my visit to be more than pleasant. Sure there was certainly sensitivity associated with the whitening itself but given the results, it was well worthwhile. They recommended a cleaning before the whitening (yes, it sounds like they're just overselling you but the truth is that trying to whiten tartar buildup makes no sense) and they spent a good 45 min on my cleaning (during which time, I was taught the proper flossing technique which blew my mind - and yes, I know how it sounds but you've got to see it to believe it). The whitening itself consisted of 3-15min Zoom treatments. The results of the whitening were fantastic. So natural no one can tell and yet everyone keeps on telling you how great you look.. I am completely sold on Dr Chung and have already scheduled a follow up visit in a month. They are open one Saturday per month which makes my life a lot easier as well. Finding Dr Chung is like finding out that wearing heels does not have to be painful. It's hard to believe but it is possible. read more

Let me start by saying that I hate going to the dentist and have had terrible experiences in the past. Everything I read about Dr. Chung is accurate. The doctor warmly greated me, in one of his pristine, state of the art (with great views btw) offices and made me feel like I had been a client for years despite only booking my first visit that week. Dr. Chung took time to explain every single thing he was doing, what he was looking for, etc. He and his entire staff have a client first mentality and provide a gentle touch. I never felt rushed or like another number with a dental policy. I had both a deep clean and a cavity filled. The Dr saw me three times within 2 hours (initial consultation, cavity fill and post cleaning). I experienced no pain (a first) during the cleanng. In addition to having state of the art cleaning machines (read: no old school scraper) that you could barely feel, the dental hygenist rubbed a light numbing gel on my gums prior. So I had a deep clean, barely felt it, all while watching TV. Yes TV. Your own personal TV while in the chair. Really. Long story short, this was the best dental experience I've had to date and will be returning to Dr. Chung for all of my dental needs. He and his staff are fantastic. read more

I have never reviewed a medical professional before, but Dr Chung's practice is the is the best dental practice that I've ever been to (and I've had at least 10 dentists in my lifetime). I've been with him for about 1.5 years now so I feel comfortable recommending his services. It starts with the friendly staff, who are very nice and smiley on the phone. They have very convenient hours (including Saturdays), and I love how they offer 8am appointments so I can go before work. Then you get to the clean office which have flat screen TVs above the chairs to take your mind off the necessary evils that are being performed in your oral cavity. I've had two hygienists there, and I have to say that I like the Asian one a bit more. They were both thorough, but the Asian one was more gentle and there was no blood when I rinsed. Dr Chung usually comes for a quick 5-10 minute talk after my cleaning. He'll look over my x-rays and then point out any problems that I have. He's very smiley and friendly, so I don't feel stupid asking him dumb questions. Recently, I've had to get some fillings replaced and Dr Chung did a fantastic job. His assistant, the blond woman, told me that she followed him from his previous office. She was also super friendly, and sat to chat with me until my mouth was numb enough for the work to be done. I was in and out in under 30 minutes - he's fast, precise, and there was no pain. I won't be going to another dentist as long as Dr Chung & I are both in NYC! read more

He's helped me out with fillings, a route canal, wisdom teeth extraction, bonding fixes and not to mention great advice after cleanings. (And YES I brush my teeth!) Dr. Chung is hands down, one of the friendliest and most professional dentists. He is extremely efficient, skilled, and thorough. Almost immediately, he is able to pinpoint what the issue is and gets down to business asap while being totally considerate of your comfort level. Before he proceeds, he takes his time to explain everything in layman's terms and makes sure that I feel that I have all the information to make my own decision. His office is bar none as all the equipment is brand new and is technologically up to date. Dr. Chung comes from a very exclusive, top notch dental group and has a long list of faithful patients that followed him as well as swear by him (including myself.) He is literally the best dentist I've ever been to! I've never been comfortable with going to the dentist but he's made it so easy. He's completely honest about what needs to be done and the best way to take care of your teeth long term. I live in Queens (closer to LI) and he's not in network with my dental plan (he only accepts a handful), but I would never go to another dentist after him because he is for sure worth the periodic ride to Manhattan and the extra money OOP. Dr. Chung and his staff are extremely friendly and professional. My husband and I both go to Dr. Chung and have been impressed with the quality of the care. Every time I have gone there has been little to no wait and the facilities are extremely clean and modern with TVs above the dental chair and digital x-rays. I have had two regular cleanings/check ups in the past year and they have been thorough and I felt like the dental hygienist and Dr. Chung were very attentive to my needs and gave very pertinent and specific advice for my dental care. In addition, I also had a crown put on a molar and the process was more pleasant than I expected it to be. The final result is perfect, you can't even tell. I was a patient of Dr. Chung's, before he opened up his own practice. I followed him when he left, because he is the greatest! There are many things that set Dr. Chung's practice apart from the rest. He builds personal relationships with his patients, the staff is all warm and inviting, and the office and equipment is bright, shiny and new. They offer Saturday appointments every so often, and he is very accommodating in general. All in all, a very customer care focused practice, which is lacking pretty much everywhere else. read more

Dr. Chung is a really great dentist. I am crazy scared of dentists and have been through multiple docs in the 9 yrs I have lived here to find one that is gentle and capable. His office is pristine, sparklingly clean- and all the staff is very friendly and professional. I had a couple cavities and after he filled them, I didn't have a problem with tenderness or sensitivity or my teeth not aligning properly- problems I have had in the past with other dentists. Never thought I would like going to a dentist... but Dr. Chung and his staffs are just AWESOME! When my friend first recommended Dr. Chung to me, I was semi skeptical, mainly because I never like dentists. But my experience there completely changed my opinion: - Hygienist Maria is really good at what she does. Not only was she pleasant, she was very helpful in educating me. - Dental assistant Nancy was also very friendly. The whole time I was on the scary dental chair, she constantly asked me if I felt comfortable. She also took my mind off by chatting with me. And next day, she called to make sure if I was ok!!! - Dr. Chung... he is truly talented and skilled at what he does. Unfortunately, I found out I needed root canal done. But to my surprise, I didn't feel any pain during the whole procedure! Even after drug wore off, I didn't take any of the pain killer he gave me. What more can you ask for?! And I love how he explained everything to me, unlike other dentists who treat you like some ignorant patient. Every staff (including the receptionist) is warm, nice, and pleasant. OK so let me start this off by saying I have an irrational fear of the Dentist. Therefore, I hadn't been to the dentist in about 5 years (don't judge me) After searching yelp and reading reviews I settled on Christian Chung. His front desk staff are exceptional. You can tell everyone enjoys working here. They go out of their way to accommodate and call you to remind you of your appointments. His offices are super modern and very clean. I was greeted by a really nice hygienist who promised not to run screaming out of the room upon my cleaning. However, I did have a few cavities (I love sweets) but Dr Chung made sure I wasn't self conscious and told me my teeth were in pretty good shape having not been to the dentist in a while but I needed to be more regular about professional cleanings. True that. I came back to get my cavities filled and I brought headphones. I swear to you it was truly a painless experience and completely diminished my fear of the dentist. That crazy sounding drill? Non existant. The only noise you hear is that water thingy cleaning your gum area as he does his work. I couldn't believe it. I really truly felt NOTHING and with headphones, I was seriously just vibeing to my Notorious BIG Frank Sinatra mixtape and all was great. I'm going back to have some more work done and I have absolutely NO fear anymore. Dr. Chung is compassionate and understanding and truly an amazing dentist. My teeth feel 100% different. I like my teeth to be very clean, and I hate unnecessary dental work. I've seen a few dentists in the city but Dr. Chung's is by far the best. The hygienists always do a spectacular job, and I can feel it afterwards. I have a bar along the bottom of my front teeth, and I really look forward to my twice a year cleaning. Dr Chung is also knowledgable, personable and utterly professional. He actually found a cavity and I was a bit skeptical until he showed it to me after he has drilled to it. A big black spot..and he did the job so quickly, it was definitely the least unpleasant cavity filling I've ever had. I only wish my new job was closer to his office. His new office is clean, very friendly staff, and has the latest in dentistry tech as well as environmentally friendly (he showed me the backroom where they scrub the water of any metals before returning it to the city!) I have been a patient of Dr Chung for almost 10 years. Have had multiple fillings redone and a few extractions. None of the procedures performed by Dr Chung was followed by pain or complications (which I cannot say for similar procedures done by other dentists I have had before).
